OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of transcutaneous electric acupoints stimulation (TEAS) on vascular endothelial function and inflammatory factors after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients. METHODS: A total of 94 patients with coronary heart disease and undergoing PCI were randomized into a TEAS group and a sham-TEAS group, 47 cases in each one. In the TEAS group, TEAS started at unilateral Neiguan (PC6) and Ximen (PC4) 30 min before PCI till the end of PCI. In the sham-TEAS group, the procedure and persistent time were same as the TEAS group, but no electric stimulation was performed. Before treatment and at 8 h and 24 h after PCI, the levels of serum endothelin-1 (ET-1), von Willebrand factor (vWF), nitric oxide (NO), blood flow dependent diastolic function (FMD), interleukin-6 (IL-6), inteleukin-10 (IL-10), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were detected in the patients successively. RESULTS: Compared with the levels before PCI, the levels of ET-1 and vWF were all increased at 8 h and 24 h after PCI in the two groups (P<0.05) and the levels in the TEAS group were remarkably lower than those in the sham-TEAS group (P<0.05). Compared with the levels before PCI, the levels of NO and FMD at 8 h and 24 h after PCI were all reduced in the two groups (P<0.05) and the levels in the TEAS group were higher obviously than those in the sham-TEAS group (P<0.05). Compared with the levels before PCI, the levels of hs-CRP, MMP-9, IL-6 and IL-10 were all increased at 8 h and 24 h after PCI in the two groups (P<0.05); Compared with the sham-TEAS group, the levels of hs-CRP, MMP-9 and IL-6 were reduced and the level of IL-10 was increased at 8 h and 24 h after PCI in the TEAS group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: TEAS effectively improves the vascular endothelial function and reduces serum inflammatory factors after PCI.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of baicalin on subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in rats and explore the potential mechanisms. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats underwent experimental SAH and received treatment with baicalin at 10 or 50 mg/kg after 2 and 12 h of SAH. Neurological scores, brain water content, Evans-blue extravasation, and levels of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured 24 h after SAH. Expression of nuclear factor erythroid-related factor 2 (Nrf2), NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), aquaporin 4 (AQP4), occludin, and zonulaoccludens-1 (ZO-1) were detected in the brain by Western blot. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) was detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: Baicalin attenuated EBI 24 h after SAH in rats (P<0.05). Baicalin elevated neurological scores, GSH-Px, SOD, and increased the expression of Nrf2, NQO1, HO-1, occludin, and ZO-1 in SAH rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Baicalin reduced MPO, MDA, and the expression of MMP-9, AQP4, TNF-α, and IL-1ß (P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Baicalin reduced SAH-induced EBI, partially via activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and inhibition of MMP-9 and AQP4.

An incubation test was conducted to study the effects of different temperature (1 degrees C, 15 degrees C, and 25 degrees C) on the mineralization and adsorption of exogenous amino acid and peptide in the soils of horticultural production systems, including organic farming system (OS), transitional farming system (TS), and conventional farming system (CS). With the increase of incubation temperature, the mineralization of exogenous amino acids and peptides in test soils quickened. The mean half-life (D50) of Glu at 1 degrees C, 15 degrees C, and 25 degrees C was 13.3, 6.8, and 5.5 h, while the D50 of Glu-Phe was 29.7, 7.5, and 4.4 h, respectively. The adsorption rate of the exogenous amino acids and peptides was dependent on their concentrations and incubation temperature. The maximum adsorption rate (V(max)) and affinity (K(m)) of amino acids and the adsorption rate (V(h)) of peptides were all increased with incubation temperature. In the range of 0-2.5 mmol x L(-1), the adsorption of amino acids conformed to classical Michaelis-Menten equation, while that of peptides conformed to linear equation. The turnover rate and the V(max), K(m), and V(h) values of exogenous amino acids and peptides generally followed the series OS > TS > CS. In summary, temperature had significant effects on the mineralization and adsorption of exogenous amino acids and peptides in test soils.

By using ultra-centrifugal technique and KC1 extraction, the contents of soil soluble organic nitrogen (SON), dissolved organic nitrogen (DON), and free amino acid (FAA) in three horticultural production systems, i.e., organic (OS), transitional (TS), and conventional (CS), were determined, and their correlations with some other soil properties were investigated. The results showed that SON content in the three production systems was in the order of OS > CS > TS, and the ratios of SON to soil total soluble N (TSN) and total N (TN) in OS, CS, and TS were 42.9%, 24.5%, and 18.4%, and 11.1%, 11.9%, and 7.4%, respectively. The DON content in OS, TS and CS was 4. 38, 1.68 and 3. 26 mg x kg(-1), occupying 47.9% , 22.1% and 26.1% of TSN, and 2.9%, 2.3% and 3.6% of TN, respectively. FAA content occupied 1%-3% of TSN and 2%-10% of SON, and decreased in the order of CS > TS > OS. Correlation analysis showed that TSN, SON and FAA were significantly correlated with soil total N, total carbon, NO3(-)-N and NH4(+)-N. Different management measures of horticultural production system changed the SON content and its characters.
