BACKGROUND: To evaluate the maximal sectional area (SA) of the rectus capitis posterior minor (RCPmi) muscle and its potential correlation with to be named ligament (TBNL) in the suboccipital area using 3D MR imaging. METHODS: A total of 365 subjects underwent sagittal 3D T2WI MR imaging of the RCPmi and TBNL. Among them, 45 subjects were excluded due to a particular clinical history or poor image quality. Finally, 320 subjects met the inclusion criteria, including 138 men and 182 women. The 624 RCPmi muscles were classified into positive and negative groups according to their attachment to the TBNL. Two experienced radiologists manually measured the maximum SA of the RCPmi muscle on the parasagittal image with a 30° deviation from the median sagittal plane. The correlations between the SA and the subject's age, height, BMI, gender, handedness, and age-related disc degeneration were tested by Spearman analysis. The SA differences between different groups were compared using independent samples t-test. RESULTS: A total of 123 RCPmi-TBNL attachments were identified in the positive group, while 501 RCPmi muscles were identified in the negative group. The SA of the 624 RCPmi muscles was 62.71 ± 28.72 mm2 and was poorly correlated with the subject's age, BMI, or handedness, with no correlation with age-related disc degeneration. A fair correlation was found between the SA and the body height in the whole group, and poor correlation in each male/female group. The SA of the RCPmi muscle in males was significantly bigger than that in women ([75.54 ± 29.17] vs. [52.74 ± 24.07] mm2). The SA of RCPmi muscle in the positive group was significantly smaller than that in the negative group ([55.95 ± 26.76] mm2 vs. [64.37 ± 28.97] mm2). CONCLUSIONS: Our results revealed a significantly smaller SA of the RCPmi in subjects with RCPmi-TBNL attachment. Besides, a larger SA of the RCPmi was correlated with the male gender. These findings suggest that the SA of the RCPmi ought to be interpreted with care for each patient since there could be considerable variations.

Many marine microorganisms synthesize exopolysaccharides (EPSs), and some of these EPSs have been reported to have potential in different fields. However, the pharmaceutical potentials of marine EPSs are rarely reported. The EPS secreted by the Artic marine bacterium Polaribacter sp. SM1127 has good antioxidant activity, outstanding moisture-retention ability, and considerable protective property on human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) at low temperature. Here, the effects of SM1127 EPS on skin wound healing and frostbite injury prevention were studied. Scratch wound assay showed that SM1127 EPS could stimulate the migration of HDFs. In the full-thickness cutaneous wound experiment of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, SM1127 EPS increased the wound healing rate and stimulated tissue repair detected by macroscopic observation and histologic examination, showing the ability of SM1127 EPS to promote skin wound healing. In the skin frostbite experiment of SD rats, pretreatment of rat skin with SM1127 EPS increased the rate of frostbite wound healing and promoted the repair of the injured skin significantly, indicating the good effect of SM1127 EPS on frostbite injury prevention. These results suggest the promising potential of SM1127 EPS in the pharmaceutical area to promote skin wound healing and prevent frostbite injury.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate the location and distribution patterns of neurovascular structures and determine the effective injection point in the tarsal tunnel for heel pain. METHODS: Fifteen adult non-embalmed cadavers with a mean age of 71.5 years were studied. The most inferior point of the medial malleolus of the tibia (MM) and the tuberosity of the calcaneus (TC) were identified before dissection. A line connecting the MM and TC was used as a reference line. The reference point was expressed in absolute distance along the reference line using the MM as the starting point. For measurements using MRI, the depth from the skin was measured to inferior at an interval of 1 cm from the MM. RESULTS: The posterior tibial artery, lateral plantar nerve, and medial plantar nerve were located from 29.0 to 37.3% of the reference line from the MM. The distribution frequencies of the medial calcaneal nerve on the reference line from the MM were 0%, 8.60%, 37.15%, 37.15%, and 17.10%, respectively. The mean depth of the neurovascular structures was 0.3 cm. DISCUSSION: This study recommended an effective injection site from 45.0 to 80.0% of the reference line.

OBJECTIVES: To examine whether moral hazard may exist under unsupervised home-based online applications, leading to more assistive technology devices (ATDs) and larger per capita expenditures on ATDs than under supervised community center-based online applications. METHODS: Using the data from the Assistive Devices Resource Centre in Shanghai, descriptive statistics were estimated for the sociodemographics of applicants. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression were used to test the effect of the introduction of home-based online applications. RESULTS: In 2015-2016, there were marked increases of 22.3% in the total number of ATDs and 27.2% in the total expenditure on ATDs compared with 2013-2014. The per capita number and expenditure also demonstrated an increasing trend. More devices were applied for in 2015-2016 than in 2013-2014, yielding a higher expenditure per capita (P < .001). Interestingly, with an invisible price, more devices were applied for at home than in community centers (P < .001), but the expenditure per capita was smaller (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of online applications increased the number of ATDs per capita. The home-based applications induced the purchase of more ATDs but not higher expenditures on ATDs. Individuals with disabilities tend to request the maximum number of ATDs allowed by the application rules, which is an indicator of moral hazard. The prices of ATDs were not visible for individuals with disabilities, which may cause individuals to order costlier ATDs when applying at home. Stricter review may be needed to reign in the potential moral hazard among online applicants with disabilities.

Inflammation and oxidative stress contribute to the progression of acute lung injury (ALI). Galectin-1 (Gal-1) has important anti-inflammatory properties in renal ischemia-reperfusion injury, arthritis, uveitis, and hepatitis. However, whether Gal-1 could protect against ALI is still poorly elucidated. The current study aimed to investigate the protective effects of Gal-1 against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and the underlying mechanisms. Accordingly, we found that pretreatment with Gal-1 attenuated the lung tissue injury induced by LPS, with the recovery of lung function, protecting against the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress. We also confirmed the therapeutic potential of Gal-1 on the survival rate of LPS-challenged mice. In vitro studies demonstrated the protective effects of exogenous Gal-1 through downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines release and oxidative stress in primary macrophages challenged by LPS. In addition, Gal-1 suppressed TXNIP-NLRP3 inflammasome activation in ALI mice and LPS-treated primary macrophages partly through directly binding to the NLRP3 protein. Gal-1 alleviated LPS-induced lung injury via activation of Nrf-2, which may be associated with AMPK phosphorylation. Collectively, our experimental results firstly provided the support that Gal-1 effectively protected against LPS-induced ALI via suppression of inflammation response and oxidative stress, which were largely dependent on the upregulation of the Nrf2 pathway via phosphorylation of AMPK. These results suggest that Gal-1 could be a valuable therapeutic candidate in the treatment of ALI.

AIM: To develop and psychometrically test the distress thermometer for caregivers (DT-C) and document the distress level in primary caregivers of children and adolescents diagnosed with schizophrenia. DESIGN: A validation diagnostic accuracy study and descriptive cross-sectional survey. METHODS: DT-C was adopted based on Harverman's distress thermometer for parents. The cut-off score was detected by using receiver operating characteristic analysis with the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 as a reference standard in a sample of 324 caregivers of children and adolescents diagnosed with schizophrenia in China collected between Jan 2017 and Feb 2018. RESULTS: One-item DT of DT-C indicated a good retest reliability (r = 0.86) and one-item DT and the Problem List (PL) indicated good convergent validity (r = 0.67-0.88). Overall and individual PL domains showed good internal consistency (KR 20 values ranged from 0.70-0.90). Setting seven as the cut-off score, the values of sensitivity (0.72-0.81), specificity (0.86-0.90), Youden's index (0.61-0.70), positive predictive value (0.67-0.74), and negative predictive value (0.84-0.92) were most satisfactory and area under curve values showed significantly excellent discrimination (0.88-0.90). The average DT score for the 324 participants was 6.34 (SD 2.49), with 46.9% of the participants above the cut-off. Caregivers above the cut-off score faced significant multiple problems in practical, family/social, cognitive, emotional, and parenting domains. CONCLUSION: The DT-C, with six domains containing 35 items in Problem List and with the cut-off score at seven, can be a rapid screening tool to measure distress in these caregivers. The level of distress in caregivers was relatively high. Psychoeducation on specific needs and a solid mutual support network are recommended for mitigating caregivers' distress. IMPACT: This study adapted a reliable DT-C to measure distress of caregivers, which has the potential to be introduced to caregivers of other types of child and adolescent mental disorders in research, assessments and care planning for health professionals.

Right ventricle (RV) pressure loading can lead to RV fibrosis and dysfunction. We previously found increased RV, septal hinge-point and left ventricle (LV) fibrosis in experimental RV pressure loading. However, the relation of RV wall stress to biventricular fibrosis and dysfunction is incompletely defined. Rabbits underwent progressive pulmonary artery banding (PAB) over 3 wk with hemodynamics, echocardiography, and myocardial samples obtained at a terminal experiment at 6 wk. An additional group received PAB and treatment with an endothelin receptor antagonist. The endocardial and epicardial borders of short-axis echo images were traced and analyzed with invasive pressures to yield regional end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic (ES) wall stress. To increase clinical translation, computer model-derived wall stress was compared with Laplace wall stress. The relation of wall stress with fibrosis (picrosirius red staining) and ventricular function was analyzed. ED wall stress in all regions and RV and LV free-wall ES wall stress were increased in PAB rabbits versus sham animals. Laplace wall stress correlated well with computational models. In PAB, fibrosis was highest in the RV free wall, then septal hinge regions, and lowest in the septum and LV free wall. Fibrosis was moderately related to ED (r = 0.47, P = 0.0011), but not ES wall stress. RV ED wall stress was strongly related to echo indexes of function (strain rate: r = 0.71, P = 0.048; E', r = -0.75, P = 0.0077; tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion: r = 0.85, P = 0.0038) and RV fractional area change (r = 0.77, P = 0.027). ED, more than ES, wall stress is related moderately to fibrosis and strongly to function in experimental RV pressure loading, especially at the septal hinge-point regions, where fibrosis is prominent. This suggests that wall stress partially links RV pressure loading, fibrosis, and dysfunction and may be useful to follow clinically.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Biventricular fibrosis and dysfunction impact outcomes in RV pressure loading, but their relation to wall stress is poorly defined. Using a pulmonary artery band rabbit model, we entered echocardiography and catheter data into a computer model to yield regional end-diastolic (EDWS) and end-systolic (ESWS) wall stress. EDWS, more than ESWS, correlated with fibrosis and dysfunction, especially at the fibrosis-intense septal hinge-point regions. Thus, wall stress may be clinically useful in linking RV pressure loading to regional fibrosis and dysfunction.

The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) rhabdomyosarcoma 2-associated transcript (RMST) silencing has been demonstrated to protect against ischemic brain injury in vivo and neuron injury in vitro. However, its underlying mechanisms in the progression of ischemic stroke have not been well explored. The expression of RMST in oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-treated HT-22 hippocampal neuron cell line was examined using quantitative Real-Time PCR (qRT-PCR). CCK-8 cell viability and apoptotic cell detection using Annexin V-FITC and PI staining coupled with flow cytometry were performed to determine the pro-apoptotic role of RMST in HT-22 hippocampal neuron cell line. Furthermore, RNA pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), coimmunoprecipitation (Co-IP), chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and dual-Luciferase reporter assays were performed to determine the mechanism of RMST in OGD-induced HT-22 cell apoptosis. In the results, RMST was highly expressed in OGD-treated HT-22 cells. Altered RMST expression led to marked changes in HT-22 cell proliferation and apoptosis. Mechanistically, RMST indirectly activated p53/miR-107 signaling pathway via interacting with heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK) and fulfilled its pro-apoptotic function in HT-22 cells. In conclusion, our data indicated that the RMST/hnRNPK/p53/miR-107/Bcl2l2 axis plays an important role in regulating neuronal apoptosis.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous formation of urinoma is a rare condition, especially for pregnant women. We report a patient in the third trimester of pregnancy with a spontaneous renal rupture who then develops a urinoma from urine leaking into the perinephric space. CASE PRESENTATION: A 23-year-old primagravida was diagnosed with a spontaneous renal rupture and acute left loin pain accompanied by hematuria when she was 35 weeks pregnant. A sub-capsular perinephric cyst then developed to a size of 319 × 175 × 253 mm, and because of discomfort to the patient, we performed Cesarean section. After a healthy male newborn was delivered, fluid was suctioned from a large perirenal cyst that had an estimated size of 300 × 200 × 300 mm. A percutaneous nephrostomy tube was left in the cyst until CT showed no remaining fluid. In the six-month follow-up, the patient showed no perirenal extravasation according to an ultrasound scan, and the urine analysis and renal function tests were normal. CONCLUSION: Close follow-up should be recommended for the patient who has renal rupture after conservative therapy, especially for pregnant woman. CT or MRI should be considered in addition to utilizing ultrasound in the management of pregnant women who present with urinomas. Percutaneous nephrostomy is suggested as an appropriate treatment for large urinomas.

BACKGROUND: The public health workforce (PHW) is a key component of a country's public health system. Since the outbreak of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in 2003, the scale of PHW in China has been continuously expanding, but policymakers and researchers still focus on the distribution of public health personnel, especially the regional inequality in such distribution. We aimed to identify the root cause of PHW inequality by decomposing different geographical units in China. METHODS: This study was based on data from a nationwide survey, which included 2712 county-level data. The distribution of the PHW in geographical units was evaluated by the Gini coefficient and Theil T index, and inequalities at regional, provincial, and municipal levels were decomposed to identify the root causes of inequalities in the PHW. Additionally, the contextual factors affecting the distribution of the PHW were determined through regression analysis. RESULTS: The overall inequality results show that health professional and field epidemiological investigators faced worse inequality than the staff. In particular, field epidemiological investigators had a Gini coefficient close to 0.4. Step decomposition showed that within-region inequalities accounted for 98.5% or more of overall inter-county inequality in the distribution of all PHW categories; provincial decomposition showed that at least 74% of inequality is still distributed within provinces; the overall contribution of within-municipal inequality and between-municipal inequality was basically the same. Further, the contextual factor that influenced between-municipality and within-municipality inequality for all three categories of PHWs was the agency building area per employee. Per capita GDP had a similar effect, except for between-municipality inequality of professionals and within-municipality inequality of field epidemiological investigators. CONCLUSIONS: The successive decomposition showed that inequality is mainly concentrated in counties at the within-province and within-municipal levels. This study clearly suggests that the government, especially the municipal government at the provincial level, should increase financial investment in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs) with worse resource allocation in their jurisdiction through various ways of compensation and incentives, enhance their infrastructure, and improve the salary of personnel in these institutions, to attract more public health professionals to these institutions.

The term left-behind children (LBC) refers to underage children who have been separated from their father/mother or parents for a long period of time. At present, there are few studies on the emotional and behavioral problems of three- to five-year-old LBC in poor rural areas of China. In this study, random cluster sampling was used to recruit caregivers of left-behind children (CLBC) aged three to five years in two poor rural areas in Hunan Province. General demographic data of LBC and their caregivers were collected via face-to-face questionnaires. Children's emotional and behavioral problems were assessed by the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Among 557 LBC, the prevalence of a total difficulties score in an abnormal/borderline range was 27.6-50.6%. The most common problem of LBC was hyperactivity, with a rate of 33.6%. Compared with boys, girls had more emotional problems (p < 0.05) and fewer hyperactivity disorders (p < 0.01). Factors related to the emotional and behavioral problems of LBC were the LBC's age, the number of sick people at home, and the CLBC's willingness to take care of the LBC. The detection rate of emotional and behavioral problems of three- to five-year-old LBC in poor rural areas is higher than that of children of the same age in urban areas and Western developed countries. There were gender differences in hyperactivity and emotional symptoms. Poor care will increase the risk of children's emotional and behavioral abnormalities.

Despite the presence of methods evaluating drug resistance during chemotherapies, techniques, which allow for monitoring the degree of drug resistance in early chemotherapeutic stage from single cells in their native microenvironment, are still absent. Herein, we report an analytical approach that combines single cell mass spectrometry (SCMS) based metabolomics with machine learning (ML) models to address the existing challenges. Metabolomic profiles of live cancer cells (HCT-116) with different levels (i.e., no, low, and high) of chemotherapy-induced drug resistance were measured using the Single-probe SCMS technique. A series of ML models, including random forest (RF), artificial neural network (ANN), and penalized logistic regression (LR), were constructed to predict the degrees of drug resistance of individual cells. A systematic comparison of performance was conducted among multiple models, and the method validation was carried out experimentally. Our results indicate that these ML models, especially the RF model constructed on the obtained SCMS datasets, can rapidly and accurately predict different degrees of drug resistance of live single cells. With such rapid and reliable assessment of drug resistance demonstrated at the single cell level, our method can be potentially employed to evaluate chemotherapeutic efficacy in the clinic.

The aim of the present study was to explore the role of ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced in vitro model of septic acute kidney injury (AKI) and the association between ATM, tubular epithelial inflammatory response and autophagy. The renal tubular epithelial cell HK-2 cell line was cultured and passaged, with HK-2 cell injury induced by LPS. The effects of LPS on HK-2 cell morphology, viability, ATM expression and inflammation were observed. Lentiviral vectors encoding ATM shRNA were constructed to knock down ATM expression in HK-2 cells. The efficiency of ATM knockdown in HK-2 cells was detected by western blot analysis and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). HK-2 cells transfected with the ATM shRNA lentivirus were used for subsequent experiments. Following ATM knockdown, corresponding controls were set up, and the effects of ATM on inflammation and autophagy were detected in HK-2 cells using RT-qPCR, western blotting and ELISA. After LPS stimulation, the HK-2 cells were rounded into a slender or fusiform shape with poorly defined outlines. LPS treatment reduced cell viability in a partly dose-dependent manner. LPS increased the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß and IL-6, with the levels reaching its highest value at 10 µg/ml. IL-6 and IL-1ß expression increased with increasing LPS concentration. These findings suggest that LPS reduced HK-2 cell viability whilst increasing the expression of inflammatory factors. Following transfection with ATM shRNA, expression levels of key autophagy indicators microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3α I/II ratio and beclin-1 in the two ATM shRNA groups were also significantly reduced compared with the NC shRNA group. In summary, downregulation of ATM expression in HK-2 cells reduced LPS-induced inflammation and autophagy in sepsis-induced AKI in vitro, suggesting that LPS may induce autophagy in HK-2 cells through the ATM pathway leading to the upregulation of inflammatory factors.

OBJECTIVE: As the discipline of nursing has advanced, research capacity in nursing has become increasingly important to the discipline's development. However, research capacity in nursing is still commonly used as a buzzword, without a consistent and clear definition. The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of research capacity in nursing by identifying its conceptual components in the relevant nursing literature using the Pragmatic Utility method. DESIGN: A Pragmatic Utility concept analysis based on a scoping review. DATA SOURCES: Academic literature retrieved from PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT). ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Qualitative studies, quantitative studies, mixed method studies or literature reviews focusing on research capacity in nursing published in English between 2009 and 2019. RESULTS: Competence, motivation, infrastructure and collaboration for nursing research are the antecedents of research capacity in nursing. The attributes of research capacity in nursing are 'non-individual level', 'context-embeddedness' and 'sustainability'. The direct outcome of research capacity in nursing is nursing research. The allied concepts identified are nursing research competency, nursing research capability and evidence-based practice capacity in nursing. CONCLUSIONS: Research capacity in nursing is the ability to conduct nursing research activities in a sustainable manner in a specific context, and it is normally used at a non-individual level. Research capacity in nursing is critical for the development of the nursing discipline, and for positive nurse, patient and healthcare system outcomes. More studies are needed to further explore the allied concepts of research capacity in nursing, and to better understand relationships among these allied concepts.

Objective: The study was designed to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting overall survival (OS) of male breast cancer (MBC) patients with infiltrating duct carcinoma (IDC). Methods: The cohort was selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard (PH) regression models were performed. A nomogram was developed based on the significant prognostic indicators of OS. The discriminatory and predictive capacities of nomogram were assessed by Harrell's concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, area under the curve (AUC) and the decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: The median and maximal survival time of 1862 eligible patients were 49 and 131 months, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that age (P < 0.0001), marital status (P = 0.002), T stage (P < 0.0001), N stage (P = 0.021), M stage (P < 0.0001), progesterone receptor (PR) (P = 0.046), human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) (P = 0.009), and chemotherapy (P = 0.003) were independent prognostic indicators of IDC of MBC. The eight variables were then combined to construct a 3-and 5-year nomogram. The C-indexes of the nomogram were0.740 (95% confidence interval [CI] [0.709-0.771]) and 0.718 (95% CI [0.672-0.764]) for the internal validation and external validation, respectively. A better discriminatory capacity was observed in the nomogram compared with the SEER summary stage (P < 0.001) and AJCC TNM staging systems (6th edition; P < 0.001) with respect to OS prediction. Good consistency was detected between the nomogram prediction and actual findings, as indicated by calibration curves. The AUC for 3-and 5-year OS was 0.739 (95% CI [0.693-0.786]) and 0.764 (95% CI [0.725-0.803]) in the training cohort and 0.737 (95% CI [0.671-0.803]) and 0.735 (95% CI [0.678-0.793]) in the validation cohort, respectively. The DCA demonstrated that the survival nomogram was clinically useful. Conclusions: The nomogram was able to more accurately predict 3-and 5-year OS of MBC patients with IDC histology than were existing models.

A Gram-negative, aerobic, non-flagellated and ovoid- or rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain SM1902T, was isolated from the sediment sampled at the Jia River estuary, Yantai, PR China. The strain grew at 10-37 °C (optimum, 25-30 °C), pH 6.0-10.0 (pH 7.0) and with 0.5-13.0 % (w/v) NaCl (2.5%). It reduced nitrate to nitrite, but did not produce bacteriochlorophyll a. The results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain SM1902T constituted a separated lineage within the family Rhodobacteraceae and was closely related to Meridianimarinicoccus roseus TG-679T and Phycocomes zhengii LMIT002T with 96.1 and 94.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, respectively. The predominant cellular fatty acid was summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, an unidentified aminolipid and an unidentified lipid. The sole respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10. The in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain SM1902T and Meridianimarinicoccus roseus TG-679T and Phycocomes zhengii LMIT002T were 19.6 and 19.5 %, respectively; and the average nucleotide identity values between them were 76.1 and 74.2 %, respectively. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain SM1902T was 58.2 mol%. Based on the phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data obtained in this study, strain SM1902T is considered to represent a novel species in a new genus within the family Rhodobacteraceae, for which the name Fluviibacterium aquatile gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SM1902T (=KCTC 72045T=MCCC 1K03596T=CCTCC AB 2018346T).

Infrared (IR) detection at room temperature is very important in many fields. Nanoscale wide-spectrum photodetectors covering IR range are still rare, although they are desired in many applications, such as in integrated optoelectronic devices. Here, we report a new kind of photodetector based on p-n heterojunction-type GaAs1-xSbx/InAs core-shell nanowires. The photodetectors demonstrate high response to the lights ranging from visible light (488 nm) to short-wavelength IR (1800 nm) at room temperature under a very low bias voltage of 0.3 V. The high performance of the devices includes an ultralow dark current (32 pA at room temperature), a high response speed (0.45 ms) to 633 nm light, high responsivity to 1310 nm telecommunication light (0.12 A/W), high response even to 1800 nm light (on/off ratio of 2.5), etc. Besides, the devices also show excellent rectifying I-V characteristics (the current rectification ratio being ∼178 in a voltage range of ±0.3 V). These results suggest that the GaAs1-xSbx/InAs core-shell nanowire devices are promising for applications in nanoelectronic devices, optoelectronic devices, and integrated optoelectronic devices.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Schizophrenia is a severe and highly stigmatized mental illness. High internalized stigma affects FGs' quality of life and caregiving capacity. Worldwide studies aimed at internalized stigma among patients diagnosed with mental illness or their FGs have reported significant stigma and some correlates, but studies involving FGs that focus on a specific mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia) and report the impact of potential psychosocial variables (e.g. coping and hope) on internalized stigma are limited. WHAT DOES THE PAPER ADD TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Internalized stigma was common among Chinese FGs of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and half of them presented at a mild level. Internalized stigma was negatively associated with hope and positively associated with passive coping. FGs, who live with patients, have difficulty supervising medication, or care for a male relative has higher internalized stigma. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE?: Regarding informative support, interventions (e.g. enhancing mental health literacy programs and cognitive therapies) to provide knowledge about schizophrenia, the skills to manage patients' adherence to medications, the benefits of treatment and the possibilities of rehabilitation are necessary for FGs. Regarding psychosocial processes, effective interventions (e.g. group psychoeducation and group social skills training) aimed to enhance hope, social support and coping styles towards internalized stigma should be implemented among FGs. Both informative support and psychosocial interventions used to decrease FGs' internalized stigma can be delivered by healthcare providers or by peer caregivers. ABSTRACT: Introduction Internalized stigma is prevalent among patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Their family caregivers (FGs) also suffer from internalized stigma, but limited studies have addressed the issue. Aim The aim of this study was to determine the severity of internalized stigma and its correlates among FGs of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in Changsha, Hunan, China. Methods A consecutive sample of 299 FGs was recruited at the psychiatric outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Changsha. This study explored the relationships between internalized stigma and potential factors. Results Nearly 50% of the FGs perceived mild internalized stigma, 24% of the FGs reported moderate level, and 6% had a severe level. Internalized stigma was associated with patients' characteristics (severity of illness) and FGs' characteristics (hope, social support, passive coping, age, education background, residence with the patient, caring for a male or a young patient and difficulty in supervising medication). Discussion and implications for practice Informative and psychosocial interventions based on education and contact for FGs such as enhancing mental health literacy programs, cognitive therapies and group psychoeducation can provide FGs with a better understanding of schizophrenia and to promote hope, active coping and social support.

RESUMO

A new efficient DEAD-promoted oxidative Ugi/Wittig reaction for the preparation of 2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-1-yl)oxazoles has been developed. The one-pot reactions of odorless isocyano(triphenylphosphoranylidene)acetates, carboxylic acids, and N-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines produced polysubstituted 2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-1-yl)oxazoles directly in good yields in the presence of DEAD oxidant.
