In this study, amphiphilic conjugates were synthesized by conjugating curcumin (CUR) to a food-derived hydrophilic hydroxyethyl starch (HES) via an acid-labile ester linker. The self-assembly of the conjugates formed uniform micellar nanoparticles (HES-CUR NPs) with a desirable drug loading efficiency, excellent colloidal and storage stability, as well as acid-responsive release manner. Besides, the formation of the nanoparticles increased the solubility of CUR to thousands times higher than free CUR, and effectively protected the loaded CUR from degradation upon exposure to UV light and high temperature. In vitro cytotoxicity assay and radical scavenging experiments demonstrated that the HES-CUR NPs significantly improved the cytocompatibility, anticancer and antioxidant activity of CUR due to the enhanced solubility, stability, and bioavailability. The HES-CUR NPs reported herein have a great potential in developing functional food or pharmaceutical formulations for preventing or treating various diseases such as inflammatory diseases and cancer.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is currently the leading cause of death globally, and the prevalence of this disease is growing more rapidly in the Asia-Pacific region than in Western countries. Although the use of metal coronary stents has rapidly increased thanks to the advancement of safety and efficacy of newer generation drug eluting stent (DES), patients are still negatively affected by some the inherent limitations of this type of treatment, such as stent thrombosis or restenosis, including neoatherosclerosis, and the obligatory use of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with unknown optimal duration. Drug-coated balloon (DCB) treatment is based on a leave-nothing-behind concept and therefore it is not limited by stent thrombosis and long-term DAPT; it directly delivers an anti-proliferative drug which is coated on a balloon after improving coronary blood flow. At present, DCB treatment is recommended as the first-line treatment option in metal stent-related restenosis linked to DES and bare metal stent. For de novo coronary lesions, the application of DCB treatment is extended further, for conditions such as small vessel disease, bifurcation lesions, and chronic total occlusion lesions, and others. Recently, several reports have suggested that fractional flow reserve guided DCB application was safe for larger coronary artery lesions and showed good long-term outcomes. Therefore, the aim of these recommendations of the consensus group was to provide adequate guidelines for patients with CAD based on objective evidence, and to extend the application of DCB to a wider variety of coronary diseases and guide their most effective and correct use in actual clinical practice.

A simple, general route to the 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans substituted at C3 by an aryethynyl or aryl group, starting from propargylamine and its derivatives with benzoyl sulfonium salts, has been developed. This reaction involved an in situ generated o-quinone methide (o-QM) intermediate followed by [4+1] annulation with sulfur ylides. Notably, this protocol's features include moderate to excellent yields and remarkable diastereoselectivity (>20:1 dr in general), easy performance, as well as applicability to versatile 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans with aryethynyl or an aryl group via C-C and C-O bond formation in one pot without any catalyst in an aqueous mixed solvent.

High-sensitivity and wide-linear-range thermoluminescence dosimeter (TLD) is of importance for detecting high-dose radiation in industry, medicine, and agriculture as well as materials and food processing. In this work, we synthesize a series of LiMgPO4 doped with Tm3+, Tb3+, and B3+ via a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. To observe the effect of dopants, we first investigate the structure by Rietveld refinement of high-quality X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and then study the thermoluminescence (TL) properties of samples radiated by ß-rays in detail. The TL signal of LiMgPO4:Tm,Tb,B is originated from Tm3+ 4f-4f transitions. The kinetic parameters are obtained through fitting the TL glow curve based on the general-order kinetics model, revealing that the dominant TL peak at ∼323 °C is related to ∼1.49 eV trap. Through constructing the vacuum-referred binding energy (VRBE) scheme, we uncover that this deep trap mainly originates from the Tb3+ dopant acted as the captured center of free hole. After codoping 0.6% B3+, the sensitivity of sample as TLD increases ∼170%. According to the radiation dose-dependent TL intensities, the sensitivity of LiMgPO4:Tm,Tb,B is about 200% larger than that of the commercial LiF:Mg,Cu,P at 0.08 Gy, and more sensitive at higher dose. Moreover, the studied sample has wider linear range (up to 10 000 Gy) toward high-dose side, good reproducibility (RSD ∼ 4.6%), and weak fading (∼8% after 34 days), and therefore has potential application as TLD for monitoring high-dose radiation.

HDAC and CDK inhibitors have been demonstrated to be synergistically in suppressing cancer cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. In this work, we incorporated the pharmacophore groups of HDACs and CDKs inhibitors into one molecule to design and synthesize a series of purin derivatives as HDAC/CDK dual inhibitors. The lead compound 6d, showing good HDAC1 and CDK2 inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 5.8 and 56 nM, respectively, exhibited attractive potency against several cancer cell lines in vitro. This work may lead to the discovery of a novel scaffold andpotentialdual HDAC/CDK inhibitors.

The thermoluminescence (TL) spectra and dose responses of strontium sulphate doped with rare earth ions show that the SrSO4:Eu2+ phosphor might reasonably be assumed a isoelectronic trap sample which has unique TL characteristics: there is only one obvious glow peak at 385 nm, 489 K in the TL 3D emission spectra and its TL dose response is linear-sublinear. However, there are several elementary glow peaks in the TL 3D emission spectra and their TL dose responses are linear-supralinear for SrSO4:RE3+ (RE = Dy, Tm). These TL peaks occurred from low to high temperature indicate that the traps are distributed in different energy levels. When a suitable amount of other impurities co-doped into these SrSO4:RE3+, such as phosphorus, the relative intensities of these elementary glow peaks are changed significantly, especially the TL peak ~500 K is enhanced while the peaks at lower temperature are suppressed. The enhanced peak of SrSO4:RE3+,P is attributed to the deep traps. Their dose responses remain in nonlinearity when co-doped phosphorus. The above results and the luminescence properties of other sulphate doped rare earths impurities illustrate that the TL characteristics depend on the structure of defect complexes which can be assumed the basic elements in the TL multi-stage processes.

Reported here is the direct synthesis of naphthofurans and benzofurans from readily available phenols and α-haloketones promoted by titanium tetrachloride which combines Friedel-Crafts-like alkylation and intramolecular cyclodehydration into one step. This simple protocol allows for the formation of a variety of high value naphthofurans and benzofurans within which a series of cyclic and acyclic groups are readily incorporated. This process demonstrates the advantages of high levels of regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and moderate to excellent yields.

MAIN CONCLUSION: OsHAK16 mediates K uptake and root-to-shoot translocation in a broad range of external K concentrations, thereby contributing to the maintenance of K homeostasis and salt tolerance in the rice shoot. The HAK/KUP/KT transporters have been widely associated with potassium (K) transport across membranes in both microbes and plants. Here, we report the physiological function of OsHAK16, a member belonging to the HAK/KUP/KT family in rice (Oryza sativa L.). Transcriptional expression of OsHAK16 was up-regulated by K deficiency or salt stress. OsHAK16 is localized at the plasma membrane. OsHAK16 knockout (KO) dramatically reduced root K net uptake rate and growth at both 0.1 mM and 1 mM K supplies, while OsHAK16 overexpression (OX) increased total K uptake and growth only at 0.1 mM K level. OsHAK16-KO decreased the rate of rubidium (Rb) uptake and translocation compared to WT at both 0.2 mM and 1 mM Rb levels. OsHAK16 disruption decreased while its overexpression increased K concentration in root slightly but in shoot remarkably. The relative distribution of total K between shoot and root decreased by 30% in OsHAK16-KO lines and increased by 30% in its OX lines compared to WT. OsHAK16-KO diminished K uptake and K/Na ratio, while OsHAK16-OX improved K uptake and translocation from root to shoot, resulting in increased sensitivity and tolerance to salt stress, respectively. Expression of OsHAK16 enhanced the growth of high salt-sensitive yeast mutant by increasing its K but no Na content. Taking all these together, we conclude that OsHAK16 plays crucial roles in maintaining K homeostasis and salt tolerance in rice shoot.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to validate a novel pictorial-based Longshi Scale for evaluating a patient's disability by healthcare professionals and non-professionals. DESIGN: Prospective study. SETTING: Rehabilitation departments from a grade A, class 3 public hospital, a grade B, class 2 public hospital, and a private hospital and seven community rehabilitation centers. SUBJECTS: A total of 618 patients and 251 patients with functional disabilities were recruited in a two-phase study, respectively. MAIN MEASURES: Outcome measure: pictorial scale of activities of daily living (ADLs, Longshi Scale). Reference measure: Barthel Index. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analyze the validity of Longshi Scale against Barthel Index. RESULTS: In phase 1 study, from March 2016 to August 2016, the results demonstrated that the Longshi Scale was both reliable and valid (intraclass correlation coefficient based on two-way random effect (ICC2,1) = 0.877-0.974 for intra-rater reliability; ICC2,1 = 0.928-0.979; κ = 0.679-1.000 for inter-rater reliability; intraclass correlation coefficient based on one-way random effect (ICC1,1) = 0.921-0.984 for test-retest reliability and Spearman correlation coefficient = 0.836-0.899). In the second phase, in March 2018, results further demonstrated that the Longshi Scale had good inter-rater and intra-rater reliability among healthcare professionals and non-professionals including therapists, interns, and personal care aids (ICC1,1 = 0.822-0.882 on Day 1; ICC1,1 = 0.842-0.899 on Day 7 for inter-rater reliability). In addition, the Longshi Scale decreased assessment time significantly, compared with the Barthel Index assessment (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The Longshi Scale could potentially provide an efficient way for healthcare professionals and non-professionals who may have minimal training to assess the ADLs of functionally disabled patients.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of Tui Na for treating spasticity of the upper limbs of stroke patients. Design: A prospective, multicenter, blinded, randomized controlled intervention study. Subjects: Stroke patients with upper limb spasticity who were treated between December 2013 and February 2017 in 16 participating institutions in China were randomly assigned to receive either Tui Na plus conventional rehabilitation (Tui Na group, n = 222,) or conventional rehabilitation only (control group, n = 222). Methods: Eligible adult patients (aged 18-75 years) were enrolled 1-12 months after stroke and randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to the two groups. Outcome assessors were blinded to treatment allocation. Muscle tone in the spastic muscles was evaluated using the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), and the primary endpoint was the change in MAS score over 4 weeks of treatment. Results: Among patients who had experienced stroke 1-3 months before treatment, the Tui Na group experienced significantly greater reductions in MAS scores for three muscle groups than did the control group after 4 weeks of treatment. These improvements were sustained at the 3- and 6-month follow-ups. However, among patients who suffered from stroke 4-6 months and 7-12 months before treatment, the change in MAS with treatment did not differ significantly between those who did and those who did not receive Tui Na. No Tui Na-related adverse events during treatment were reported the groups. Conclusion: Tui Na was effective and safe for alleviating poststroke spasticity within 1-3 months after stroke onset.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) by unilateral fenestration and bilateral decompression with ultrasounic osteotome and traditional tool total laminectomy decompression PLIF in the treatment of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis. Methods: The clinical data of 48 patients with single-stage degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis between January 2017 and June 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 27 patients were treated with unilateral fenestration and bilateral decompression PLIF with ultrasonic osteotome (group A), and 21 patients were treated with total laminectomy and decompression PLIF with traditional tools (group B). There was no significant difference in gender, age, stenosis segment, degree of spinal canal stenosis, and disease duration between the two groups ( P>0.05), which was comparable. The time of laminectomy decompression, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, and the occurrence of operation-related complications were recorded and compared between the two groups. Bridwell bone graft fusion standard was applied to evaluate bone graft fusion at last follow-up. Visual analogue scale (VAS) score was used to evaluate the patients' lumbar and back pain at 3 days, 3 months, and 6 months after operation. Oswestry disability index (ODI) score was used to evaluate the patients' lumbar and back function improvement before operation and at 6 months after operation. Results: The time of laminectomy decompression in group A was significantly longer than that in group B, and the intraoperative blood loss and postoperative drainage volume were significantly less than those in group B ( P<0.05). There was no nerve root injury, dural tear, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, and hematoma formation during and after operation in the two groups. All patients were followed up after operation, the follow-up time in group A was 6-18 months (mean, 10.5 months) and in group B was 6-20 months (mean, 9.3 months). There was no complication such as internal fixation fracture, loosening and nail pulling occurred during the follow-up period of the two groups. There was no significant difference in VAS scores between the two groups at 3 days after operation ( t=1.448, P=0.154); the VAS score of group A was significantly lower than that of group B at 3 and 6 months after operation ( P<0.05). The ODI scores of the two groups were significantly improved at 6 months after operation ( P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in ODI scores between the two groups before operation and at 6 months after operation ( P>0.05). At last follow-up, according to Bridwell criteria, there was no significant difference in bone graft fusion between the two groups ( Z=-0.065, P=0.949); the fusion rates of groups A and B were 96.3% (26/27) and 95.2% (20/21) respectively, with no significant difference ( χ 2=0.001, P=0.979 ). Conclusion: The treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis with unilateral fenestration and bilateral decompression PLIF with ultrasonic osteotome can achieve similar effectiveness as traditional tool total laminectomy and decompression PLIF, reduce intraoperative blood loss and postoperative drainage, and reduce lumbar back pain during short-term follow-up. It is a safe and effective operation method.

BACKGROUND: The miR-214 has been reported to be associated with various diseases, but its involvement in the pathophysiology of Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) is almost completely unexplored. METHODS: In our study, we conducted a series of experiments to unravel the biological role of miR-214 in the pathophysiology of HSCR. qRT-PCR and western blotting were utilized to investigate the relative expression levels of miR-214, mRNAs, and proteins of related genes in colon tissues from 20 controls without HSCR and 24 patients with HSCR. The potential biological role of miR-214 in two cell lines (SKN-SH and SH-SY5Y) was assessed using the CCK8 assay, EdU staining, transwell assay, and flow cytometry. The dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to confirm PLAGL2 as a common target gene of miR-214. RESULTS: All results suggested that miR-214 is upregulated in HSCR tissue samples compared with controls. Additionally, we found that miR-214 could inhibit cell proliferation and migration by directly downregulating the expression of PLAGL2, and the extent of the miR-214-mediated inhibitory effects could be rescued by a PLAGL2 overexpression plasmid. CONCLUSION: Our results revealed that miR-214 is indeed involved in the pathophysiology of HSCR and suppresses cell proliferation and migration by directly downregulating PLAGL2 in cell models.

BACKGROUND: Dumbbell-shaped tumor is a type of the inner and outer cervical spinal canal tumor, and most of them are neurogenic tumors. Desmoid tumor is a rare tumor, and no case of them involving intervertebral foramen formed dumbbell-shaped in cervical spine have been reported before in English literature. Here we report a case of desmoid tumor arising in the cervical spine which is presented as typical dumbbell-shaped tumor. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 47-year-old female was admitted to our department with a mass in her left neck. The tumor was initially thought to be a neurogenic cervical dumbbell tumor based on physical and radiological examination. Postoperative HE and immunohistochemical staining verified the diagnosis of a cervical dumbbell desmoid tumor, which had never been reported before. We report our experience and reviewed literature about desmoid tumor to share our experience and explore proper treatment option of such lesion. CONCLUSION: Desmoid tumors in the head and neck may present as cervical dumbbell-shaped tumors. Before the treatment plan was undertaken, thorough examinations including surgical pathology were necessary.

Background: There is international consensus that benzene exposure is causally related to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and more recent evidence of association with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). However, there are uncertainties about the exposure response, particularly risks by time since exposure and age at exposure. Methods: In a case-cohort study in 110 631 Chinese workers followed up during 1972-1999 we evaluated combined MDS/AML (n = 44) and chronic myeloid leukemia (n = 18). We estimated benzene exposures using hierarchical modeling of occupational factors calibrated with historical routine measurements, and evaluated exposure response for cumulative exposure and average intensity using Cox regression; P values were two-sided. Results: Increased MDS/AML risk with increasing cumulative exposure in our a priori defined time window (2 to <10 years) before the time at risk was suggested (Ptrend = 08). For first exposure (within the 2 to <10-year window) before age 30 years, the exposure response was stronger (P = .004) with rate ratios of 1.12 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.27 to 4.29), 5.58 (95% CI = 1.65 to 19.68), and 4.50 (95% CI = 1.22 to 16.68) for cumulative exposures of more than 0 to less than 40, 40 to less than 100, and at least 100 ppm-years, respectively, compared with no exposure. There was little evidence of exposure response after at least 10 years (Ptrend = .94), regardless of age at first exposure. Average intensity results were generally similar. The risk for chronic myeloid leukemia was increased in exposed vs unexposed workers, but appeared to increase and then decrease with increasing exposure. Conclusion: For myeloid neoplasms, the strongest effects were apparent for MDS/AML arising within 10 years of benzene exposure and for first exposure in the 2 to less than 10-year window before age 30 years.

RATIONALE: Nocardial spinal epidural abscess is rare. The diagnosis is often difficult to make and, if delayed, poses a high risk of long-term disability. Nocardial spinal epidural abscess with severe lumbar disc herniation has not previously been reported. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 50-year-old man presented with progressive lumbago and leg pain for 6 weeks after receiving acupuncture therapy, and then the patient suddenly occurred urine retention after walking. DIAGNOSES: Clinical examination revealed sign of cauda equina syndrome. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a Lumbar(L)4 to L5 disc herniation, L3 to Sacrum(S)1 epidural abscess, and L2 to S1 paravertebral abscess. The causative organism was Nocardia farcinica. INTERVENTIONS: An urgent paravertebral abscess debridement and right L4 to L5 laminectomy were performed. Simultaneously, the disc tissue protruding into the spinal canal was removed, as well as irrigation and drainage. And antimicrobial treatment was continued for 12 months. OUTCOMES: Fortunately, the patient was able to walk with a cane and urinate autonomously without a catheter, although this remained difficult 7 days after surgery. After 1 year of treatment, the patient has recovered completely and returned to work. LESSONS: Nocardial spinal epidural abscess with severe lumbar disc herniation is extremely rare. Pain from spinal degenerative diseases often masks the early symptoms of spinal infection. It's worth noting that invasive treatment of spine is a way of causing spinal nocardial infection.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the usefulness of intraoperative traction in the selection of the surgical procedure for irreducible atlantoaxial dislocation (IAAD) caused by different craniovertebral junction (CVJ) pathologies. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Forty-three patients who were diagnosed with IAAD and who underwent surgery between January 2008 and May 2017 in our hospital were included in the study. All of the patients received skull traction under general anesthesia. Based on the traction results, the patients underwent one of the following surgeries: posterior fixation and fusion only, posterior atlantoaxial lateral mass joint release followed by fixation and fusion, or anterior release followed by posterior fixation and fusion. The classification system was defined accordingly. The treatment efficacy was evaluated based on the improvement of clinical symptoms and radiological findings. RESULTS: Four patients were categorized as Type A, twenty patients as Type B1, twelve patients as Type B2, and seven patients as Type C. Thirty-seven patients (86.0%) achieved complete reduction and six patients (14.0%) achieved greater than 50% reduction. Bony fusion was achieved in all patients at 6 months after the operation. The average Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score improved from 10.2 ± 2.1 before surgery to 15.0 ± 1.2 at the final follow-up. According to the Symon clinical standard, the total effectiveness rate was 97.7%, and 72.1% of the patients showed excellent clinical outcomes. CONCLUSION: Intraoperative traction is an effective and safe method to assist the selection of surgical methods for patients with IAAD caused by different CVJ etiologies.

The Kelvin water dropper is an electrostatic generator that can generate high voltage electricity through water dripping. A conventional Kelvin water dropper converts the gravitational potential energy of water into electricity. Due to its low current output, Kelvin water droppers can only be used in limited cases that demand high voltage. In the present study, microfluidic Kelvin water droppers (MKWDs) were built in house to demonstrate a low-cost but accurately controlled miniature device for high voltage generation. The performance of the MKWDs was characterized using different channel diameters and flow rates. The best performed MKWD was then used to conduct experiments of the electrowetting of liquid on dielectric surfaces. Electrowetting is a process that has been widely used in manipulating the wetting properties of a surface using an external electric field. Usually electrowetting requires an expensive DC power supply that outputs high voltage. However, in this research, it was demonstrated that electrowetting can be conducted by simply using an MKWD. Additionally, an analytic model was developed to simulate the electrowetting process. Finally, the model's ability to well predict the liquid deformation during electrowetting using MKWDs was validated.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) play an important role in the metastasis and chemoresistance in the context of colorectal cancer (CRC). Downregulation of death associated protein kinase 1 (DAPK1) may promote metastasis and chemoresistance of cancer cells through various mechanisms. However, the association between DAPK1 and CSCs or EMT has not been explored. In this study, we demonstrated that DAPK1 was associated with elevated stemness of CSCs in patients with CRC. Silencing of DAPK1 in CRC cell lines promoted the metastasis and chemoresistance due to increased stemness of CSCs and enhanced mesenchymal phenotype, an effect that was mediated via activation of the transcription factor, zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1). Blockade of this signaling pathway attenuated the stemness of CSCs and rescued the EMT process. DAPK1-ZEB1 may lie at the interface of TGF-ß and WNT pathways and participate in both CSCs and EMT process. Targeted therapies aimed at DAPK1-ZEB1 pathway may inhibit the chemoresistance and metastasis of CRC. KEY MESSAGES: Downregulation of DAPK1 promotes chemoresistance and metastasis of CRC. Inhibition of DAPK1 promotes the stemness of cancer stem cells and EMT process. DAPK1-ZEB1 may lie at the interface of TGF-ß and WNT pathways. DAPK1-ZEB1 participates in both CSCs and EMT process.

Retrievals of particulate optical depths and extinction coefficients from the cloud-aerosol lidar with orthogonal polarization (CALIOP) instrument deployed on the CALIPSO satellite mainly rely on a single global mean extinction-to-backscatter ratio, also known as the lidar ratio. However, the lidar ratio depends on the microphysical properties of particulates. An alternative approach is adopted to infer single-layer semi-transparent cirrus optical depths (CODs) over the open ocean that does not rely on an assumed lidar ratio. Instead, the COD is inferred directly from backscatter measurements obtained from the CALIOP lidar in conjunction with collocated sea surface wind speed data obtained from AMSR-E. This method is based on a Gram-Charlier ocean surface reflectance model relating wind-driven wave slope variances to sea surface wind speeds. To properly apply this method, the impact of multiple scattering between the sea surface and ice clouds should be taken into account. We take advantage of the 532 nm cross-polarization feature of CALIOP and introduce an empirical method based on the depolarization change at the sea surface to correct for potential bias in sea surface backscatter caused by whitecaps, bubbles, foam, and multiple scattering. After the correction, the COD can be derived for individual CALIOP retrievals in a single cloud layer over the ocean with this method. The global mean COD was found to be roughly 14% higher than the current values determined by the Version 4 CALIOP extinction retrieval algorithm. This study is relevant to future improvements of CALIOP operational products and is expected to lead to more accurate COD retrievals.

Nuclear factor I/B (NFIB) is a widely studied transcription factor that participates in tumor progression; nevertheless, studies on NFIB in colorectal cancer (CRC) are limited. In our study, Western blot and RT-PCR analyses showed that NFIB was overexpressed in CRC tissues and cell lines, which was consistent with our bioinformatic analysis results. Furthermore, NFIB expression was closely related to the TNM stage of CRC. NFIB promoted cell proliferation and migration and inhibited cell apoptosis in vitro. Meanwhile, we discovered that NFIB accelerated xenograft tumor growth in vivo. In addition, NFIB weakened the sensitivity of CRC cells to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). NFIB induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by upregulating snail expression, which was accompanied by decreased E-cadherin and Zo-1 expression and increasedd Vimentin expression. Because the Akt pathway plays an important role in CRC progression, we examined whether there was a correlation between NFIB and the Akt pathway in cell proliferation and migration. Our results showed that NFIB promoted cell proliferation and increased 5-FU resistance by activating the Akt pathway. In summary, our findings suggested that NFIB induced EMT of CRC cells via upregulating snail expression and promoted cell proliferation and 5-FU resistance by activating the Akt pathway.
