RESUMO

Micronutrient malnutrition, also known as hidden hunger, continues to affect more than 2 billion people globally. Biofortification, which is a process of breeding staple crops with improved micronutrient contents such as vitamin A, iron, and zinc, offers a cost-effective and sustainable solution in reducing hidden hunger. However, the success of these foods depends on consumer acceptance. In contrast to previous studies, this research focuses on the mechanism of consumer acceptance of biofortified crops that undergo physical changes (i.e., changes in appearance) after biofortification. We use data on 473 Chinese consumers collected through online surveys to examine their purchase intentions for biofortified foods that have visible (vs. invisible) nutrition traits. Using two online surveys, we conduct two studies to reveal the mechanism and antecedents of consumer acceptance of different biofortified foods. In Study 1, we find that consumer purchase intentions vary depending upon the visibility of nutrition traits in biofortified foods. Specifically, consumers exhibit a nutrition-related food neophobia (NFN) regardless of visibility of the nutrition trait in biofortified foods; and a sensory-affective food neophobia (SFN) which is only pronounced when the nutrition trait in biofortified foods is visible. The results of the mediation analysis show that for both types of biofortified foods, NFN mediates consumers' purchasing intentions. For foods that involve visible changes after biofortification, SFN acts as an additional mediator of consumer purchase intentions. Using ordered logistic regression analysis, we find that both food neophobias have a negative impact on consumer acceptance of biofortified foods. The results of Study 2 confirm our findings and further show that nutrition information moderates the mediation of NFN and SFN, i.e., the negative impact of NFN and SFN on purchase intentions can be reduced by providing nutrition information to consumers. The results of this study have several theoretical and practical implications and are of interest to stakeholders and marketers in the promotion of biofortified foods.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the chest CT imaging features and clinical outcome of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Ningbo, China. METHODS: In this retrospective study, twenty-eight confirmed and seven highly suspected cases of COVID-19 were enrolled in Ningbo first hospital from January 26, 2020 to March 5, 2020. Cases were confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The initial and follow-up chest CT imaging features, epidemiological history, and outcome were analyzed. RESULTS: The average age of the patients was 57.3 ± 15.3 years (range: 27-96 years), including 25 females and 10 males. On CT images, 89.3% (25/28) confirmed and 100% (7/7) suspected patients had ground-glass opacities (GGOs), and GGOs with mixed consolidations were observed in 35.7% (10/28) confirmed and 42.9% (3/7) suspected cases, most of these lesions were distributed under the peripheral of both lungs. 17 confirmed and 4 suspected cases had a history of participating in Ningbo Tian-tong Temple rituals and all had GGOs in their lungs during the initial CT scan. As of March 25, 2020, the lung lesions of our cases were significantly resolved and all patients have been discharged from the hospital. CONCLUSION: The most common chest CT features are multiple bilateral and peripheral GGOs with mixed consolidations or not in the lungs of patients with COVID-19. Chest CT plays an important role in the diagnosis and monitoring treatment response of this disease. There was no reported death in our cases.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. There are great geographical differences in the incidence of GC, and somatic mutation rates of driver genes are also different. The present study is aimed at screening core prognosis-related candidate genes in Chinese gastric cancer population based on integrated bioinformatics for the early diagnosis and prognosis of GC. Methods: In the present study, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in GC were identified using four microarray datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The samples of these datasets were all from China. Functional enrichment analysis of DEGs was conducted to evaluate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in GC. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and cytoHubba were performed to determine hub genes associated with GC. Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and Human Protein Atlas (HPA) were performed to validate the hub genes. Results: A total of 240 DEGs were obtained through the RRA method, including 80 upregulated genes and 160 downregulated genes. Upregulated genes were mainly enriched in extracellular matrix organization, extracellular matrix, and extracellular matrix structural constituent. The downregulated genes were mainly enriched in digestion, extracellular space, and oxidoreductase activity. The KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that the upregulated genes were mainly associated with ECM-receptor interaction, focal adhesion, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. And downregulated genes were mainly associated with the metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450, metabolic pathways, and gastric acid secretion. The transcriptional and translational expression levels of the genes including COL1A1, COL5A2, COL12A1, and VCAN were higher in GC tissues than normal tissues. Conclusion: A total of four genes including COL1A1, COL5A2, COL12A1, and VCAN were considered potential GC biomarkers in the Chinese population. And ECM-receptor interaction, focal adhesion, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway were revealed to be important mechanisms of GC. Our findings provide novel insights into the occurrence and progression of GC in the Chinese population.

Bone defects remains a challenge for surgeons. Bone graft scaffold can fill the defect and enhance the bone regeneration. Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) is an allogeneic bone graft substitute, which can only be used as a filling material rather than a structural bone graft. Coating of the scaffolds with nanoscale DBM may enhance the osteoinductivity or osteoconductivity. Herein the lyophilization method is presented to coat the nano-DBM on surface of the porous polycaprolactone (PCL)/ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) scaffolds fabricated by 3D printing technology. The morphology, elastic modulus, in vitro cell biocompatibility, and in vivo performance are investigated. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) shows DBM particle clusters with size of 200-500 nm are observed on scaffolds fibers after coating. MC3T3-E1 cells on nano-DBM coated PCL/ß-TCP scaffold show better activity than on PCL/ß-TCP scaffold. In vivo tests show better infiltration of new bone tissue in nano-DBM coated PCL/ß-TCP scaffold than PCL/ß-TCP scaffold via the interface. These results show the presence of nano-DBM coating on PCL/ß-TCP scaffold could enhance the attachment, proliferation, and viability of cells and benefit for the new bone formation surrounding and deep inside the scaffolds. Nano-DBM could potentially be used as a new kind of biomaterial for bone defect treatment.

Biogas slurry is widely used as a crop fertilizer due to its available nitrogen content. However, it remains unclear how biogas slurry application affects soil organic carbon (SOC) status and soil microbial community under typical agricultural systems. Here, under a wheat-rice field experiment, we examined the responses of SOC and soil bacterial and fungal communities to biogas slurry application, both with (BSS) and without (BS) straw return, relative to chemical nitrogen fertilizer with (CFS) and without (CF) straw return. The BS treatment significantly increased total organic carbon (TOC) at all soil depths (0-60 cm), compared to CF. Greater TOC occurred at 20-40 cm depth under BSS relative to all other treatments. However, straw return had no impact on soil TOC content under the CF and CFS treatments. Labile organic carbon (LOC) in the topsoil and recalcitrant organic carbon (ROC) at 20-60 cm depth was significantly greater under BS relative to CF. The bacterial class Gammaproteobacteria and family Hyphomicrobiaceae were found to be specifically abundant under biogas slurry application after one year of wheat-rice double cropping. Network analyses showed that the soil bacterial community under biogas slurry application was more complex than under chemical fertilizer application, while the opposite was true for the fungal community. Correlations between network modules and the SOC fractions indicated that biogas slurry application stimulated soil bacteria and fungi to participate in SOC cycling. The module functionality supports our speculation that soil microorganisms degraded the biogas slurry derived-ROC in the topsoil. Overall, we conclude that substitution of chemical fertilizer with biogas slurry can be beneficial for increasing SOC stocks and, in systems with straw return, enhancing straw decomposition.

The application of biogas slurry, from anaerobic digestion of livestock excreta, to cropland has proven to be an effective mechanism for recycling nutrients within farms. However, the potential pollution of heavy metals from repeated biogas slurry fertilization has not received much attention. Here we present the results of a field experiment under rice-wheat rotation demonstrating the accumulation, speciation distribution and plant uptake of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd) in soil following biogas slurry application. The treatments were: zero biogas slurry application (BS0), and biogas slurry application for three (BS3) and five (BS5) years, at a rate of 450 m3 ha-1 y-1. Our findings show that biogas slurry fertilization resulted in accumulation of Cu and Zn in the soil. The concentrations of soil Cu and Zn under BS5 were, respectively, 38 and 29% greater in the wheat season and 35 and 35% greater in the rice season relative to BS0 (p < 0.05). The bioavailability of soil Cu and Zn increased following biogas slurry application. Plant uptake of Cu and Zn to all parts of wheat and rice plants (excluding Cu in wheat straw) increased with the years of biogas slurry application (p < 0.05), and the concentration of Cd in wheat grain was significantly greater in BS5 relative to BS0 (p < 0.05). After five years of biogas slurry fertilization, concentrations of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd in wheat grains were 3.28, 25.19, 0.11 and 0.053 mg kg-1 and 4.24, 33.78, 0.12 and 0.035 mg kg-1 for rice grains, respectively, all within the safety limits. Our results demonstrate that repeated biogas slurry fertilization for five years has a relatively low pollution risk of heavy metals. However, long-term field monitoring and co-application with metal-immobilizing materials are required to ensure the safety of its application to cropland.

FTY720 and IMMH002, prodrugs for sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1P1) agonists, show inadequate and inconsistent levels of phosphorylation in humans compared to that in rats. In this study, FTY720 or IMMH002 analogues (21-24) were designed and synthesized with modified head pieces to improve the biotransformation of the prodrugs to the active phosphorylated forms. Target compounds were synthesized via a convergent route using the key and optically pure building block 9, which was first synthesized via asymmetrically catalyzed amination. The phosphorylation rates of these analogues in rat or human blood were compared. The new methyl-substituted analogue compound 21 showed higher phosphorylation rates in both rats and humans than the parent compound, whereas compound 23 showed improvements in rats, but not in humans. In pharmacokinetics studies of rats, compounds 21 and 23 both had higher levels of phosphorylation than FTY720 and IMMH002. Thus, our study not only yielded new compounds with therapeutic potential, but also showed species differences between rats and humans in response to the structural modifications, which might be useful for predicting the biotransformation behavior and efficacy of this class of prodrugs in the clinic.

PURPOSE: There is an increasing agreement that acromegaly caused by growth hormone (GH) cell adenoma has two distinct subtypes: densely granulated (DG) and sparsely granulated (SG). We hypothesized that differential molecular signatures may explain their behavior. METHODS: Total transcriptome sequencing was performed on ten DG and seven SG adenomas. The differentially expressed RNAs were identified by bioinformatic analyses, and a candidate RNA was verified by quantitative real-time PCR. Immunohistochemical staining was also performed to detect the protein expression of the candidate. Clinical parameters were correlated with protein expression. Subsequently, cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell cycle progression were analyzed after knockdown of the candidate in pituitary GH3 cells. Activation of the cAMP pathway was assessed by ELISA and Western blot. RESULTS: We confirmed that there were obvious differentially expressed genes between the subtypes. Through gene profiling, we discovered that an orphan adhesion G protein-coupled receptor, GPR64, was overexpressed in more aggressive SG adenomas. Noticeably, GPR64 knockdown significantly inhibited the proliferation of GH3 tumor cells and decreased colony formation. The knockdown also induced cell cycle arrest in GH3 tumor cells. Further studies revealed that GPR64 knockdown decreased cAMP levels and the ratios of p-CREB/CREB, indicating that it suppressed the cAMP/CREB pathway. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that GPR64 may promote aggressiveness in SG-type GH cell adenomas and that it is a key factor regulating the cAMP pathway to promote aggressiveness of GH cell adenomas.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE: To determine the optimal open side in unilateral open-door laminoplasty (UODL) for lateral cervical ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: No literature has reported which side of the vertebral arch should be chosen as the open side in UODL for lateral cervical OPLL. METHODS: Patients with lateral cervical OPLL who were treated with UODL between 2013 and 2018 were retrospectively analyzed in two groups: Group A, where the open side was contralateral to the ectopic bone, and Group B, where the open side was ipsilateral to the ectopic bone. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) Score, JOA recovery rate, spinal canal enlargement rate, cervical range of motion (ROM), and spinal cord area (SCA) were measured to evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes between the two groups. Statistical analysis was performed by t test and Hotelling T2 test. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in patient demographics and major complications between the two groups. The postoperative JOA Score and JOA recovery rate in Group A were significantly higher than those in Group B. There was no significant difference in cervical ROM within or between the two groups during the 2-year follow-up period, nor was there significant difference in spinal canal enlargement between the two groups. However, both postoperative SCA and increased SCA in Group A were significantly higher than those in Group B. CONCLUSION: The contralateral open side approach is preferable to the ipsilateral open side approach in UODL for lateral cervical OPLL. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3.

We present the synthesis of enantiomerically pure (S)-α-methyl-serine methyl ester hydrochloride from 2-methyl-3-((4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)oxy)propanal and di-p-chlorobenzyl azodicarboxylate via asymmetrically catalyzed amination with naphthylalanine derivative catalyst. The application of the organocatalyst of D-3-(1-Naphthyl)-alanine is the key step in the synthesis and ensures the product is obtained with high levels of stereocontrol.

In this data explosion age, a large amount of data is generated every day. Such a fast data growth has aroused great interest in the field of data storage. Conventional data storage materials are mainly composed of hard and brittle materials but they may break in the case of mechanical operations, causing irreversible data loss. In this work, efforts have been devoted to fabricating a flexible and stretchable double network hydrogel for data storage based on the magneto-optical Kerr effect. The hydrogel possesses a storage modulus of over 104 Pa and remains unbroken under a strain of 3000%. The surface of the hydrogel is patterned with diamagnetic parts and paramagnetic parts alternately. When placed under a magnetic field, the surface of the hydrogel reflects the incident laser beam and changes the polarization plane of the reflected light. The outstanding flexibility and inherent magnetic properties of this hydrogel lay the groundwork for data storage and guarantee data safety.

BACKGROUND: The factors associated with initial and delayed remission after growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary adenoma excision have not been completely elucidated. METHODS: We recruited 185 consecutive patients who had undergone resection of GH-secreting pituitary adenomas from January 2013 to December 2014 and assessed their tumor characteristics and surgical outcomes. The criteria for initial or delayed remission (using the 2010 consensus criteria) were normalized insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels, GH levels <0.4 µg/L with an oral glucose tolerance test, and/or random GH levels <1.0 µg/L at or after the postoperative 3-month (PO3M) follow-up, without adjuvant therapy. RESULTS: Remission was achieved in 92 of 162 patients (56.8%) after surgery alone and was associated with a lower Knosp grade of 0-2 and lower postoperative day 1 GH level on multivariate regression analysis. A baseline IGF-1 index (IGF-1 level/upper limit of normal) of <2.835 predicted for initial remission at the PO3M follow-up (positive predictive value, 95.3%; negative predictive value, 36.6%; P < 0.001). The PO3M IGF-1 index was significantly lower in the delayed remission group than in the nonremission group. Furthermore, the former had had fewer invasive tumors (1.23 ± 0.21 vs. 1.77 ± 0.37 [9.52% vs. 76.47%]; P < 0.001). A PO3M IGF-1 index of <1.485 predicted for delayed remission during subsequent follow-up (positive predictive value, 84.6%; negative predictive value, 92.3%; P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: A lower Knosp grade of 0-2 and lower postoperative day 1 GH level were independent predictors of surgical remission. The baseline IGF-1 and PO3M IGF-1 indexes might predict for initial and delayed remission, respectively.

As a key component of various acoustic systems, acoustic beam splitter (BS) finds important application in many scenarios, yet are conventionally based on the assumption that the acoustic waves propagate as easily when incident from either input or output side. It would therefore be intriguing, from the viewpoints of both science and technology, to break through this limit by realizing acoustic BSs supporting asymmetric transmission. Here we propose the concept of one-way acoustic BS capable of splitting acoustic beam incident from the input port into multiple beams while effectively reducing the backward transmission from any of the output ports. Furthermore, our design enables flexibly adjusting the number and angle of output beams by blocking the unused line defects. The numerical results verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the phenomenon of one-way acoustic BS at the predesigned frequency. Our design with functionality and flexibility bridges the gap between acoustic diodes and BSs and may enable novel multi-functional devices with great application prospects in diverse fields such as acoustic integrated circuits and acoustic communication.

BACKGROUND: Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is a 3-dimensional (3D) disease that causes cervical myelopathy. The conventional 2-dimensional (2D) measurement of OPLL has limitations in estimating cord compression and myelopathy. In this study, we attempted to use 3D computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the 3D occupying ratio of OPLL and investigate its significance in the assessment of spinal cord myelopathy. METHODS: Three-dimensional CT and MRI were performed in 50 patients with cervical OPLL at a neutral position before surgery. MRI was done to determine the extent of spinal cord compression. The CT data were saved in DICOM format and analyzed using Mimics 17.0. Then a 3D model of OPLL was semiautomatically segmented at a specific threshold. The following data were measured: diameter of the spinal canal, thickness of the OPLL, and 3D volume of the OPLL and spinal canal. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score was used to assess the cervical spinal cord function. RESULTS: Pearson correlation analysis showed that both the occupying ratio and the 3D occupying ratio were significantly and negatively correlated with the JOA score. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that only the 3D occupying ratio showed a significantly negative correlation with the JOA score, whereas age, sex, and the occupying ratio were insignificantly associated with the JOA score. CONCLUSIONS: The 3D occupying ratio of OPLL is a reliable indicator for assessing the severity of spinal cord myelopathy. MRI provides more details about cord compression, making the measurement more accurate and objective.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which have emerged as important regulatory RNA molecules that have been implicated in carcinogenesis and cancer progression, may also serve as novel potential biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Our previous analysis has identified the lncRNA GHRLOS, the ghrelin antisense strand non-coding RNA gene, as one of the hub genes in the co-expression network of differentially expressed lncRNAs/mRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we further evaluate the expression of GHRLOS in CRC and explore its clinical significance. The expression of GHRLOS in 366 pairs of CRC and adjacent non-cancerous tissues was detected by quantitative RT-PCR assays. The results showed that the expression level of GHRLOS was significantly lower in CRC tissues than in matched non-cancerous tissues (P < 0.001). Decreased GHRLOS expression was observed in 54.4% (199/366) of cases, and was significantly correlated with the occurrence of lymph node metastasis (P = 0.033) and distant metastasis (P = 0.005). A Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that decreased GHRLOS expression contributed to poor disease-free survival (log-rank test, P < 0.001) and overall survival (log-rank test, P < 0.001). Moreover, a multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed the decreased expression of GHRLOS as an independent prognostic marker of poor outcomes [disease-free survival: hazard ratio (HR) = 2.02, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.42-3.88; overall survival: HR = 1.96, 95% CI = 1.34-2.86] in CRC patients. In conclusion, our data suggest that the lncRNA GHRLOS might serve as a candidate biomarker of tumor metastasis and a prognostic indicator in CRC.

Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a well-characterized NAD+-dependent histone deacetylase, is generally up-regulated in gastrointestinal cancers. However, the prognostic value of SIRT1 in gastrointestinal cancer remains inconclusive. Therefore, we report a meta-analysis of the association of SIRT1 expression with overall survival (OS) in gastrointestinal cancer. PubMed was systematically searched for studies evaluating the expression of SIRT1 and OS in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Fifteen studies (six evaluating colorectal cancer, three evaluating hepatocellular carcinoma, three evaluating gastric cancer, and one each evaluating pancreatic cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and gastroesophageal junction cancer) with 3,024 patients were finally included. The median percentage of gastrointestinal cancers with high SIRT1 expression was 52.5%. Overall analysis showed an association between high SIRT1 expression and worse OS [summary hazard ratio (sHR) 1.54, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.21-1.96] in gastrointestinal cancer. However, heterogeneity was observed across studies, which was mainly attributed to cancer type. Subgroup analysis revealed that SIRT1 was significantly associated with worse OS in non-colorectal gastrointestinal cancer (sHR 1.82, 95% CI 1.50-2.21), in particular in gastric cancer (sHR 3.19, 95% CI 1.97-5.16) and hepatocellular carcinoma (sHR 1.53, 95% CI 1.16-2.01), with no evidence of heterogeneity or bias. However, no association was observed in colorectal cancer (sHR 1.15, 95% CI 0.81-1.62). In conclusion, high SIRT1 expression is a potential marker for poor survival in non-colorectal gastrointestinal cancer, but not in colorectal cancer.

The present study aims to evaluate the diagnostic value of four-dimensional CT angiography (4D-CTA) in the diagnosis of arterial erectile dysfunction (ED) using 320-detector row dynamic volume CT. Arterial ED patients attributed to arterial insufficiency were enrolled. To induce penile erection, an intracavernous injection (ICI) of corpus cavernosum with a vasoactive drug was administered. Patients were assigned into the erection hardness score (EHS) 1/2 group or EHS 3/4 group. Color duplex Doppler ultrasound (CDDU) was used to analyze blood flow spectrum. Each patient was examined using 4D-CTA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to evaluate the diagnostic value of 4D-CTA in arterial ED. According to Irwin Goldstein, the EHS 3/4 group (n=38) had a shorter course of ED and low proportion with history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes than the EHS 1/2 group (n=35). The peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), and resistant index (RI) in the EHS 3/4 group were lower than those of the EHS 1/2 group. 4D-CTA showed there were a total of 35 cases in the EHS 1/2 group (two cases missed) and 38 cases in the EHS 3/4 group (seven cases misdiagnosed). Using 4D-CTA to diagnose arterial ED, the area under the ROC curve yielded a value of 0.879, with a specificity of 93.9% and a sensitivity of 82.5%. These findings indicated that 4D-CTA using 320-detector row dynamic volume CT is a promising and reliable utility in diagnosing arterial ED.

The present study aims to investigate and compare the diagnostic and prognostic value of cavernosography with 320-row dynamic volume computed tomography (DVCT) versus conventional cavernosography in men with erectile dysfunction (ED) caused by venous leakage. A total of 174 patients diagnosed with ED were enrolled and received cavernosography with 320-row DVCT (DVCT group) and conventional cavernosography scans (control group) respectively. The diagnosis, complications, and prognosis of patients were evaluated. The DVCT group provided high-resolution images with less processing and testing time, as well as lowered radiological agent and contrast agent compared with the control group. In the DVCT group, 89 patients who were diagnosed with venous ED had six various venous leakage, namely superficial venous leakage, profundus venous leakage, the mixed type, cavernosal venous leakage, crural venous leakage, and also venous leakage between the penis and urethra cavernosum (9, 21, 32, 6, 18, and 3 cases respectively). Similarly, 74 patients out of the 81 who suffered from venous ED were classified to have superficial venous leakage (11), profundus venous leakage (14), the mixed type venous leakage (26), and middle venous leakage (23). Six out of 25 patients in the DVCT group, had improvements in ED while the remaining 19 achieved full erectile function recovery with no penile fibrosis and erectile pain. Cavernosography with 320-row DVCT is a reliable system that can be used to diagnose ED caused by venous leakage. This is especially useful in accurately determining the type of venous and allows for a better prognosis and direction of treatment.

Coupled vibration of a radially polarized piezoelectric cylindrical transducer is analyzed with the mechanical coupling coefficient method. The method has been utilized to analyze the metal cylindrical transducer and the axially polarized piezoelectric cylindrical transducer. In this method, the mechanical coupling coefficient is introduced and defined as the stress ratio in different directions. Coupled vibration of the cylindrical transducer is regarded as the interaction of the plane radial vibration of a ring and the longitudinal vibration of a tube. For the radially polarized piezoelectric cylindrical transducer, the radial and longitudinal electric admittances as functions of mechanical coupling coefficients and angular frequencies are derived, respectively. The resonance frequency equations are obtained. The dependence of resonance frequency and mechanical coupling coefficient on aspect ratio is studied. Vibrational distributions on the surfaces of the cylindrical transducer are presented with experimental measurement. On the support of experiments, this work is verified and provides a theoretical foundation for the analysis and design of the radially polarized piezoelectric cylindrical transducer.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic inflammation is associated with increased risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and diabetes. The role of pro-inflammatory diet in the risk of cancer mortality and CVD mortality in prediabetics is unclear. We examined the relationship between diet-associated inflammation, as measured by dietary inflammatory index (DII) score, and mortality, with special focus on prediabetics. METHODS: This prospective cohort study used data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III). We categorized 13,280 eligible participants, ages 20-90 years, according to glycosylated hemoglobin (HgbA1c) level and identified 2681 with prediabetes, defined as a glycosylated hemoglobin percentage of 5.7-6.4. Computation of DII scores and all statistical analyses were conducted in 2015. The DII was computed based on baseline dietary intake assessed using 24-h dietary recalls (1988-1994). Mortality was determined from the National Death Index records through 2006. Over follow-up ranging between 135 and 168 person-months, a total of 3016 deaths were identified, including 676 cancer, 192 lung cancer, 176 digestive-tract cancer, and 1328 CVD deaths. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate hazard ratios. RESULTS: The prevalence of prediabetes was 20.19 %. After controlling for age, sex, race, HgbA1c, current smoking, physical activity, BMI, and systolic blood pressure, DII scores in tertile III (vs tertile I) was significantly associated with mortality from all causes (HR 1.39, 95 % CI 1.13, 1.72), CVD (HR 1.44, 95 % CI 1.02, 2.04), all cancers (HR 2.02, 95 % CI 1.27, 3.21), and digestive-tract cancer (HR 2.89, 95 % CI 1.08, 7.71). Findings for lung cancer (HR 2.01, 95 % CI 0.93, 4.34) suggested a likely effect. These results were moderately enhanced after additional adjustment for serum low-density lipoprotein and triglyceride and following eliminating deaths during the first year. CONCLUSIONS: A pro-inflammatory diet, as indicated by higher DII scores, is associated with an increased risk of all-cause, CVD, all-cancer, and digestive-tract cancer mortality among prediabetic subjects.
