BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Individuals with Alzheimer disease and dementia experience cognitive decline and reduction in physical capabilities. Engaging in cognitive challenges and physical exercises is effective in reducing age-related cognitive and physical decline. It is believed that physical activity in the context of cognitive challenges might enhance the process of neurogenesis in the adult brain, but how effective are such interventions? Is there enough evidence to support that dual-task training is more effective than cognitive or physical training alone? To what extent can such training improve cognitive and physical functions in patients at various stages of cognitive decline? METHODOLOGY: This systematic review with meta-analysis summarizes the emerging evidence of dual-task training for enhancing cognitive and physical functions in older individuals with cognitive impairment, dementia or Alzheimer's disease. A systematic search was carried out in MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library with the following search terms: randomized control trials, dual-task training, SCD, MCI, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. RESULTS: A total of 21 studies with 2,221 participants were identified. The results of dual-task tanning intervention are summarized as change in global cognitive function; SMD = 0.24, (P= 0.002), memory; SMD = 0.28, (P = 0.000), executive function; SMD = 0.35, (P = 0.000), attention; SMD = -0.19, (P = 0.1), gait speed; SMD = 0.26, (P = 0.007), dual-task cost; SMD 0.56, (P = 0.000), and balance; SMD 0.36, (P = 0.004). CONCLUSION: Primary analysis showed a small-to-medium positive effect of dual-task training interventions on cognitive functions and medium-to-large positive effect on gait functions and balance.

AIMS: Cattle and poultry manure composting are often applied on agricultural lands but the fungal community composition before and after application in soils is still unclear. This study describes soil fungal diversity after manure applications contribute to the correct resource use of livestock and poultry manures. METHODS AND RESULTS: Fresh manure samples were obtained from 10 beef cow farms and 12 egg-laying poultry farms at five distinct phases of rearing. Surface soil samples were collected from vegetable plots within the farms after manure application at 15, 30 and 45 t hm-2 . Using high-throughput sequencing techniques, the ITS region was used to describe soil fungus populations. The fungal OTUs, Chao1 and ACE of cattle manure were relatively higher in the fattening stage (>12 months), the OTUs and ACE of chicken manure were the highest in the initial laying stage (16-24 weeks). The fungal diversity indices of vegetable soils had no linear change after cow or chicken manure application compared with the control. Ascomycota (84.7% of total sequences), Neocallimastigomycota (9.69%) and Basidiomycota (4.6%) were the dominant phyla in cattle manure. Ascomycota (88.9%) also predominated in chicken manure followed by Basidiomycota (8.9%). Following both cattle and chicken manure applications, the abundance of Ascomycota decreased, whereas Basidiomycota and Chytridiomycota increased in the soils. None of the dominant genus increased or decreased linearly with the increase of cattle and chicken composting application rate. The fungal-dominant genera of the soils with and without manure composting application were mostly affected by soil pH and EC than manure. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed that organic matter, Cu and Hg contents were strongly linked to the fungal diversity and the abundance of specific taxa in cattle manure. In chicken manure, OM, TN and Zn were major factors controlling the fungal diversity and community composition. Soil pH, EC and Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg and As content had pronounced effects on the beneficial and pathogenic genus in soil with and without manure composting. Beneficial fungal genus such as Aspergillus, Plectosphaerella, Acremonium, Meyerozyma and fungal pathogenic such as Fusarium, Cladosporium, Verticillium were sensitive to properties (EC, pH, OM) and heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Hg) contents of the environment relatively. This study can serve as an applicable contribution helping in farms management (especially to cattle and poultry breeding) and improving their resource use of livestock and poultry manures. CONCLUSIONS: Soil heterogeneity rather than manure determines fungal communities in the vegetable fields, but we can encourage the sensible use of cattle and chicken manures in agroecosystems. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This study will help farmers regulate the dosage of feed components which can increase the number of beneficial fungal genus or reduce the number of pathogenic fungal genus, improve their resource use of livestock and poultry manures and encourage the sensible use of cattle and chicken manures in agroecosystems.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of trifoliate flap design of radial forearm flap in reconstruction of defects after mouth floor cancer resection. Methods: From June 2016 to December 2019, 12 patients with defect after resection of mouth floor cancer were treated with trifoliate flap design of radial forearm flap. All of these patients were T2 stage, included 9 well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and 3 moderate differentiated SCC. The defect size ranged from 8.0 cm×6.0 cm to 5.0 cm×4.5 cm after resection of tumor and neck dissection. All defects were repaired with trifoliate flap design of radial forearm flap. The flap size ranged from 8.0 cm×2.0 cm to 4.0 cm×1.5 cm, the donor site was sutured directly on Z plasty. Results: All flaps completely survived well. Both the wound and the donor site were stage Ⅰ healing. With the average follow-up of 38.6 months, the swallowing and speech function were satisfactory. Conclusions: Trifoliate flap design of radial forearm flap can effectively repair the postoperative defect of mouth floor cancer, and the donor site can be directly sutured on Z plasty. This technique can avoid forearm scar caused by skin grafting and the formation of the second donor site.

RESUMO

Artificial joint arthroplasty, such as total hip and total knee arthroplasty, is one of the most successful procedures in orthopedics. The quality of life of these patients can be improved significantly through relieving pain, correcting the deformity and improving joint function. Although hip and knee arthroplasty currently are routine surgeries for patients with late stage joint diseases, post-operative complications like leg length discrepancy, dislocation or instability, limp and uncertain reason pain are still common. The position of the implants plays important roles in all these complications. Robotic assisted joint arthroplasty can not only provide 3D pre-operative visual planning, but also can assist to fulfill the pre-operation plan perfectly. But the current joint arthroplasty robots cannot carry out automatic personalized pre-operation planning, and also have the shortcomings of low efficiency and high cost etc. However, based on their current performance and with the help of artificial intelligence and better algorithm, we believe that joint arthroplasty will be more and more precisive, intelligent and minimally invasive, which is an inevitable trend in the development of joint surgery.

Objective: To assess the improvement of the robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) regarding the acetabular cup positioning and the leg length restoration. Methods: Clinical data of 246 patients undergoing primary unilateral THA from September 2019 to June 2021 in Peking University Third Hospital were retrospectively reviewed, including patients treated with rTHA (n=113) and conventional THA (cTHA) (n=133). Thirty-seven male patients along with 76 females were enrolled into the rTHA group with a mean age of (62±9) years. In comparison, the average age of cTHA group was (60±12) years with 59 males and 74 females. The postoperative inclination and anteversion of the acetabular cup and the rate of acetabular cup within the Lewinnek and Callanan "safe zone" were documented and analyzed. For the patient with normal or surgically restored contralateral hip, the leg length discrepancy was also measured and compared between the two groups. Results: The overall mean postoperative inclination and anteversion was 39.0°±5.5° and 14.1°±5.1°, respectively. No statistically significant difference was found between the rTHA and cTHA group regarding postoperative inclination (39.3°±2.9° vs 38.7°±7.0°, P=0.383) and anteversion (13.4°±4.3° vs 14.7°±5.6°, P=0.054). In rTHA group, 97.3%(110/113) of the cups were implanted within the Lewinnek"safe zone"(75.9%(101/133) in cTHA group) and 94.7%(107/113) were within the Callanan"safe zone"(66.2%(88/133) in cTHA group), and those were both higher in rTHA group (both P<0.01). There was no significant difference in postoperative leg length discrepancy between the two groups (P=0.445). Meanwhile, 29(23.0%) cases of cTHA group had leg length discrepancy more than 5 mm, and it was 9.7%(9/93) in rTHA group. Conclusion: It indicated the benefit of rTHA in acetabular cup positioning as well as the leg length restoration.

Objective: To explore the differences of alignment and position of prosthesis between portable accelerometer-based navigation device (PAD) and conventional instrumentation (CI) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with valgus deformity. Methods: Patients with knee osteoarthritis and valgus deformity who underwent primary TKA in Peking University Third Hospital from January 2017 to December 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study and were divided into PAD group and CI group according to the surgical instruments. Five male patients and 44 female patients were included with a mean age of (67.2±7.0) years. The differences in preoperative general data, preoperative and postoperative alignment between the two groups were studied. Results: A total of 49 patients (25 patients in the PAD group and 24 in the CI group) were enrolled in this study. There were no statistically significant differences in gender, age, height, weight, body mass index, surgical side, preoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle, preoperative HKA angle deviation, Keblish classification and Ranawat classification between the two groups (all P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the accuracy of postoperative HKA angle (2.0°±1.4° vs 3.0°±2.2°, P=0.082), coronal femoral component angle (CFCA) (1.5°±1.2° vs 2.1°±1.6°, P=0.144) and coronal tibial component angle (CTCA) (1.2°±0.8° vs 1.3°±1.0°, P=0.695) between the two groups; but the standard deviation of the above-mentioned three indices in PAD group were all smaller than those in CI group. The rate of outliers of postoperative HKA angle of the PAD group was smaller than that in the CI group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in the rate of outliers of CFCA and CTCA between the two groups (both P>0.05). Conclusion: TKA assisted by PAD can provide good alignment and prosthesis position in patients with valgus deformity, and it is superior to TKA with CI in terms of precision and rate of outliers of postoperative overall alignment of lower extremity.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of venetoclax (VEN) combined with azacitidine (AZA) versus CAG regimen combined with decitabine (DAC) in elderly patients with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Methods: From January 2018 to August 2020, the clinical data of forty-five elderly patients with relapse AML at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were retrospectively analyzed, including 31 males and 14 females. The median age was 66 (60-80) years old. Eighteen patients were administrated with VEN and AZA, while the other 27 were in CAG with DAC. The complete remission (CR) rate, partial remission (PR) rate, total remission rate (ORR), adverse events and overall survival (OS) were compared between the two groups. Results: At the end of the treatment, the ORR in VEN with AZA group was 77.8% (14/18); including 11 CR and 3 PR. In CAG with DAC group, the ORR was 37.0% (10/27); including 8 CR and 2 PR (P=0.007). Subgroup analysis suggested that VEN with AZA had a higher ORR in patients stratified as intermediate and poor-risk (P=0.013) or with DNA methylation mutations (P=0.007). Main adverse events in both groups were bone marrow suppression, infections, nausea and vomiting, anorexia and fatigue. Grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ cytopenia developed in lower incidence of VEN with AZA group, such as leukopenia (66.7% vs. 100%, P=0.002), anemia (50.0% vs. 92.6%, P=0.002), thrombocytopenia (72.2% vs. 96.3%, P=0.031) and neutropenia (61.1% vs. 92.6%, P=0.014). In addition, less grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ infections occurred in VEN with AZA group (66.7% vs. 33.3%, P=0.028), as well as grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ gastrointestinal events (40.7% vs. 11.1%, P=0.032), grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ fatigue (55.6% vs.11.1%, P=0.003) compared with CAG with DAC group. The 1-year OS in VEN with AZA group versus CAG with DAC group was 42.9% and 31.6% respectively (P=0.150). Conclusion: VEN combined with AZA proves favorable efficacy and tolerablity in elderly patients with relapsed AML.

The aim of this study was to construct a simple, rapid and ultra-sensitive optical biosensing technique based on rolling circle amplification (RCA), and to apply it to multiple detection of drug-resistant genes of mycobacterium tuberculosis. The common mutation sites of isoniazid, rifampicin and streptomycin resistance genes are katG315 (AGC➝ACC), rpoB531 (CAC➝TAC) and rpsL43 (AAG➝AGG). For these three gene sites, from February 2020 to May 2021, in the Department of Laboratory Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Military Medical University, the padlock probe (PLP), primers and capture probes were designed. And a solid-phase RCA constant temperature amplification reaction system based on magnetic beads was constructed and the experimental parameters were optimized. The RCA products were accurately captured by the multicolor fluorescent probes (Cy3/Cy5/ROX), and the single-tube multiple detection of three mutation genes was realized. The sensitivity, specificity and linear range of this method were further verified. The results showed that the response range of katG315 in the same reaction system ranged from 1.0 pmol/L to 0.1 nmol/L. The response range of rpoB531 and rpsL43 ranged from 1.0 pmol/L to 50.0 pmol/L and 1.0 pmol/L to 20.0 pmol/L, and the method had good specificity and sensitivity, and could accurately identify single base mutations in mixed targets, with the minimum detection limit as low as 1.0 pmol/L. The recoveries of simulated serum samples were 95.0%-105.2%. In conclusion, the constant temperature amplification multiple detection method constructed in this study can quickly realize the single-tube multiple detection of three drug resistance mutation sites. This technology is low-cost, simple and rapid, and does not rely on large equipment, providing a new analysis method for pathogen drug resistance gene detection.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness of secukinumab in patients with axSpA treated in routine clinical settings in 5 European countries. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of a cross-sectional survey to assess real-world effectiveness of secukinumab in the management of axSpA and rheumatologist satisfaction with treatment in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK from March to December 2018. Outcomes collected included patient demographics, clinical characteristics and rheumatologist- and patient-reported satisfaction with secukinumab treatment. RESULTS: Five hundred thirty-five patients receiving secukinumab for more than 4 months were assessed, 359 of whom were diagnosed with AS and 178 with nr-axSpA. Rheumatologist assessment of disease status at treatment initiation indicated that 39 (7.3%) had stable/improving disease. Secukinumab treatment for 4 months or longer resulted in 515 (95.9%) patients judged as stable/improving. Treatment was associated with benefits from initiation to assessment in terms of BASDAI (6.2 vs 2.8), 44-joint count score (9.7 vs 6.6), rheumatologist global VAS score (56.9 vs 23.0) and patient global VAS scores (64.4 vs 25.5). These benefits for key clinical outcomes were sustained for periods of 12 months or longer. Patient-reported outcomes on health status using EQ-5D, global functioning using the ASAS health index and overall work impairment via WPAI were sustained over the treatment period, while patient and rheumatologist satisfaction with secukinumab treatment remained very high at 80.2 and 91.2%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Consistent benefits across multiple clinical and patient-reported outcomes were seen with secukinumab treatment in patients with AS and nr-axSpA treated in routine clinical settings across five European countries. Key Points • In routine clinical settings across five European countries, secukinumab treatment resulted in improvements in a wide range of clinical outcomes including physician-reported disease severity, disease status, pain, BASDAI, 44-joint count score and global VAS scores. • Key clinical and patient reported outcomes were sustained for a 12-month period or longer with secukinumab treatment. • Rheumatologist- and patient-reported treatment satisfaction was high with secukinumab.

Objective: To explore the differences of alignment and operative time between computer assisted surgery (CAS) and personal specific instrumentation (PSI) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: Patients with knee osteoarthritis who underwent unilateral primary TKA in Peking University Third Hospital from June 2019 to April 2021 were enrolled in this prospective study and were randomly divided into CAS group and PSI group with random number table. The differences in preoperative general data, operative time, preoperative and postoperative alignment between the two groups were studied. Results: A total of 80 patients were enrolled in this study, including 40 patients in the CAS group with an average age of (68±6) years (male/female, 6/34 cases) and 40 patients in the PSI group with an average age of (69±6) years (male/female, 5/35 cases). There was no significant differences in gender, age, height, weight, body mass index, surgical side, preoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle, and preoperative HKA angle deviation between the two groups (all P>0.05). The accuracy of sagittal femoral component angle (sFCA) (1.7°±1.2° vs 2.5°±1.4°, P<0.05) and sagittal tibial component angle (sTCA) (1.2°±0.9° vs 2.3°±1.8°, P<0.01) of the CAS group were both smaller than those in the PSI group, but there was no significant difference in the accuracy of postoperative HKA angle, mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA) and mechanical medial proximal tibia angle (mMPTA) between the two groups (all P>0.05). The precision of postoperative HKA angle and sTCA of the CAS group were both smaller than those in the PSI group (2.0°±1.0° vs 2.6°±1.7°, 1.2°±0.9° vs 2.3°±1.8°, both P<0.01), but there was no significant differences in the precision of mLDFA, mMPTA and sFCA between the two groups (all P>0.05). The rate of outliers of postoperative HKA angle (10.0% vs 27.5%, P<0.05), sFCA(5.0% vs 20.0%, P<0.05) and sTCA (2.5% vs 22.5%, P<0.01) of the CAS group were all smaller than those in the PSI group, but there was no significant difference in the rate of outliers of mLDFA and mMPTA between the two groups (both P>0.05). CAS group had significantly longer surgical time than the PSI group ((81±12) min vs (52±8) min, P<0.01). Conclusions: CAS is better than PSI in overall coronal alignment and sagittal position of the prosthesis after TKA. However, CAS requires a longer operation time.

Sex-specific cognitive abilities are well documented. These can occur when sexes engage in different ecological contexts. Less known is whether different ecological contexts can also drive sex-specific participation rates in behavioral tests. Here, we explore this question in bumble bees, a group of eusocial insects where worker females and males exhibit stark socioecological differences. Among myriad colony maintenance tasks, workers forage for themselves and developing brood, while males forage only for themselves while mate-searching. Following upon previous studies suggesting no sex differences in bumble bee learning, we test the hypothesis that despite having equivalent associative learning abilities, males participate in cognitive assessments offering nutritional rewards at lower rates. Testing > 500 bees from nine colonies in a differential conditioning protocol, we find support for our hypothesis. An equivalent proportion of workers and males successfully completed our cognitive assessment, while a significantly lower proportion of males participated in the entire protocol. Unequal participation is a perennial issue in the behavioral sciences, limiting sample size and potentially biasing results. Our results suggest that to understand the true range of variation in cognition, sex-differences in participation must be accounted for.

Objective: To compare the difference between two total knee arthroplasty (TKA) techniques, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) and conventional instrumentation (CI), regarding the rotational alignment of femoral components. Methods: A prospective, randomized controlled trial in 80 patients with severe knee osteoarthritis who underwent primary unilateral TKA from October 2018 to December 2019 in Peking University Third Hospital was carried out. There were 63 females and 17 males, with an average age of 69 years. The patients were assigned to either PSI-TKA group (n=40) or CI-TKA group (n=40) with bluster random method (block size 4). The femoral component rotation on the transepicondylar axis, the outlier rate of rotational alignment, the rate of anterior knee pain, and the clinical outcomes including HSS and WOMAC score at 1-year follow-up were documented and analyzed. Results: Although no significant difference in femoral component rotational alignment was found between the two groups (CI-TKA: 0.7°, PSI-TKA: 0.6°, P=0.279), the PSI-TKA group achieved less coefficient of variation of rotational alignment (1.50 vs 2.14) and the distributions of the outliers (19.4% vs 7.9%, P=0.185). Six patients (8.1%) experienced anterior knee pain at 1-year follow-up. No significant difference regarding the incidence of anterior knee pain, the HSS, and WOMAC score was found between the two groups one year after the operation (all P>0.05). Conclusions: The satisfied postoperative rotational alignment of femoral components can be attained with the application of PSI in comparison with conventional instrumentation. In addition, PSI offers a potential benefit in the reduction of alignment outliers.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the differences of alignment and operative time between portable accelerometer-based navigation device (PAD) and computer assisted surgery (CAS) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS: Data of patients using iASSIST (a kind of PAD) and OrthoPilot (a kind of CAS) for TKA in Peking University Third Hospital from December 2017 to December 2019 were retrospectively collected. The differences of preoperative general data, preoperative alignment, operative time and postoperative alignment were studied between the two groups. RESULTS: A total of 82 patients were enrolled in our study, including 40 patients in the PAD group and 42 patients in the CAS group. Gender, age, body mass index (BMI), surgical side, preoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle and preoperative HKA angle deviation didn't show statistically significant difference between the PAD group and the CAS group (P>0.05). Postoperative HKA angle (180.8°±2.2° vs.181.8±1.6°, t=-2.458, P=0.016) and postoperative coronal femoral-component angle (CFA, 90.6°±1.8° vs. 91.6°±1.6°, t =-2.749, P=0.007) of the PAD group were smaller than those of the CAS group, but there was no significant difference in coronal tibia-component angle (CTA, 90.0°±1.3° vs.89.6°±1.4°, t=1.335, P=0.186) between the two groups. There was no significant difference in the rate of outliers (varus or valgus > 3°) for postoperative HKA angle (10.0% vs.11.9%, χ2 =0.076, P=0.783), CFA (12.5% vs. 14.3%, χ2=0.056, P=0.813) and CTA (2.5% vs. 0%, χ2=1.063, P=0.303). There was no significant difference in the accuracy of postoperative HKA angle (2.1° vs. 2.0°, t=0.055, P=0.956), CFA (1.4° vs. 1.8°, t=-1.365, P=0.176) and CTA (1.0° vs. 1.1°, t=-0.828, P=0.410) between the two groups. The precision of postoperative HKA angle (1.1° vs. 1.3°, F=1.251, P=0.267), CFA (1.3° vs. 1.4°, F=0.817, P=0.369) and CTA (0.8° vs. 0.9°, F=0.937, P=0.336) were also not significantly different. We also didn't find statistically significant difference in operative time between the two groups [(83.4±25.6) min vs. (86.5±17.7) min, t=-0.641, P=0.524]. CONCLUSION: PAD and CAS had similar accuracy and precision in alignment in TKA, and there was no significant difference in operative time, which indicates that PAD has a broad application prospect in TKA.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the role of human short stature homeobox 2 (SHOX2) in regulating the migration, invasion and stemness of human bladder cancer cells. METHODS: We analyzed SHOX2 gene expression in bladder cancer and adjacent tissues based on TCGA database. Univariate survival analysis of SHOX2 gene expression in TCGA-BLCA data was performed using GEPIA. The probable function of SHOX2 was predicted using GSEA. Human bladder cancer T24 cell models of SHOX2 knockdown or overexpression were assessed for changes in migration and invasion abilities using wound healing assay and Transwell assay, and their cancer stem cell-like characteristics were evaluated using tumorsphere formation assay and colony formation assay. Western blotting was used to detect the expressions of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers Ecadherin and vimentin and the TGF-ß signaling network component TßR-I in the cells. RESULTS: SHOX2 expression was significantly higher in bladder cancer tissues than in the adjacent tissues (P < 0.05), especially in paired tissue specimens (P < 0.01), and was negatively correlated with the overall survival of the patients (P < 0.05). SHOX2 gene expression was correlated positively with EMT-related (P < 0.05) and stemness-related gene signatures (P < 0.01). In T24 cells, SHOX2 knockdown significantly suppressed cell migration and invasion, which was significantly enhanced by SHOX2 overexpression (P < 0.01). The cancer stem cell-like characteristics of T24 cells was repressed by SHOX2 knockdown but significantly enhanced by SHOX2 overexpression (P < 0.01). SHOX2 knockdown induced morphological changes of the cells into epithelioid cells, whereas SHOX2 overexpression induced a mesenchymal morphology of the cells. SHOX2 knockdown increased E-cadherin expression and decreased vimentin and TßR-I expression, while SHOX2 overexpression increased the expressions of vimentin and TßR-I in the cells. CONCLUSION: SHOX2 promotes the migration, invasion and stemness of human bladder cancer cells possibly by regulating EMT via the TGF-ß signaling pathway.

AIMS: To evaluate the associations of morning serum cortisol levels with obesity defined by different indices in Chinese rural populations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed including 6198 participants (2566 males and 3632 females). Serum cortisol was collected in morning and quantified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Obesity was defined by body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BFP), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist circumference (WC), visceral fat index (VFI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). Both multivariable liner regression, logistic regression and restrictive cubic splines models were used to estimate the gender-specific relationships between cortisol levels and obesity defined by different indices, respectively. RESULTS: After adjusting for potential confounders, serum cortisol was negatively associated with different obesity measures, except obese females defined by BFP (for instance, overall obesity defined by BMI, Quartile 4 vs. Quartile 1, odds ratio (OR) = 0.25, 95% confidence interval (CI):0.15, 0.41 in males, and OR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.42,0.80 in females, central obesity defined by WC, OR = 0.52, 95% CI:0.39,0.69 in males and OR = 0.63, 95% CI:0.51,0.77 in females). Similarly, restrictive cubic splines showed the nonlinear relationship between high levels of cortisol and different obesity indices. Furthermore, ROC curve analysis indicated that cortisol could improve the discrimination of model with common biomarkers. CONCLUSION: Morning serum cortisol were negatively related to obesity defined by different indices in Chinese rural populations. In addition, cortisol could be as a biomarker for prediction of obesity in males.

RESUMO

The interspecies transmission of pathogens among multiple hosts is a complex dynamic process, which poses a severe challenge to the reliability of the early warning system of zoonotic infectious diseases. By introducing the theories and methods of infectious disease ecology, this paper reviews and summarizes the study of the interaction among pathogens, hosts and environment through the dynamic mathematical model of environment-host-infectious diseases, and also includes research paradigm for quantifying the effects of environment on epidemic trends, vectors and pathogenic microorganisms. Taking the study of Apodemus-type hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, also known as epidemic hemorrhagic fever, in China as an example, the application of mathematical model of infectious diseases in actual prediction and early warning of epidemic situation is introduced, and new monitoring indexes and early warning methods is further developed.

Ultrafast control of material physical properties represents a rapidly developing field in condensed matter physics. Yet, accessing the long-lived photoinduced electronic states is still in its early stages, especially with respect to an insulator to metal phase transition. Here, by combining transport measurement with ultrashort photoexcitation and coherent phonon spectroscopy, we report on photoinduced multistage phase transitions in Ta2NiSe5. Upon excitation by weak pulse intensity, the system is triggered to a short-lived state accompanied by a structural change. Further increasing the excitation intensity beyond a threshold, a photoinduced steady new state is achieved where the resistivity drops by more than four orders at temperature 50 K. This new state is thermally stable up to at least 350 K and exhibits a lattice structure different from any of the thermally accessible equilibrium states. Transmission electron microscopy reveals an in-chain Ta atom displacement in the photoinduced new structure phase. We also found that nano-sheet samples with the thickness less than the optical penetration depth are required for attaining a complete transition.

Epigenetics refers to genetic regulation patterns that gene expressions, which lead to the phenotype variance, are modified in the absence of changes of DNA sequence. Epigenetics mainly includes DNA methylation, histone modification, and non-coding RNA regulation. During the development of the teeth, conventional gene regulation and epigenetics synergistically regulate the spatial and temporal expression of genes, which involved in cell proliferation, differentiation and finally the formation of teeth. Exploration of the epigenetic regulation mechanisms during tooth development can provide multiple clues and ideas for the research of tooth regeneration. This article reviewed the significant roles of epigenetic regulation in tooth development.

Objective: To describe the clinical features of liver involvement in children and adolescent with 2019-nCoV infection. Methods: The clinical data of 77 hospitalized cases admitted to the Children's Hospital of Fudan University were collected from January 19 to November 28, 2020. The characteristics and risk factors of abnormal liver chemistries in children with laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV infection were analyzed. Results: Of the 77 cases, 44 were male (57.1%) and 33 were female (42.9%), with a median age of 10 years. 27(35.1%) were asymptomatic, 28(36.4%) had mild illness, 22(28.6%)had non-severe pneumonia. Hydroxychloroquine was used in 7 cases. Of the 75 children without underlying diseases, alanine aminotransferase was elevated in 1 case (1.5%, during hydroxychloroquine therapy), aspartate aminotransferase was elevated in 7 cases (10.3%), alkaline phosphatase was elevated in 7 cases (28%), and total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, albumin, international normalized ratio were in normal range. There was no statistical difference between the pneumonia group and the non-pneumonia group in term of liver chemistries (P > 0.05), same as between the elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate group and the normal group. There was no aggravation of liver injury in the child with biliary atresia. The child with epilepsy showed no abnormal liver chemistries after infection. Conclusion: Children with 2019-nCoV infection had mild clinical symptoms with few cases of liver injury. The abnormal liver chemistries in children with COVID-19 infection may be related to the underlying disease and the use of antiviral drugs.
