RESUMO

Visible-light-induced deaminative alkylation of Katritzky salts with silyl enol ethers has been developed. The reaction can proceed efficiently through electron donor-acceptor complex formation, avoiding the use of precious metal complexes or synthetically elaborate organic dyes. A series of functionalized γ-ketoesters was successfully obtained with good functional group tolerance and compatibility under mild and straightforward conditions.

Objective: To investigate the effects of novel BimunoGalactooligosaccharides (B-GOS) on cognitive behavior and depression of APP/PS1/tau Alzheimer's disease transgenic mice. Methods: Five-month-old male APP/PS1/tau AD transgenic mice and C57BL/6J control mice were divide into C57+Vehicle group, C57+B-GOS group, APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group and APP/PS1/tau+B-GOS group, with 10 mice in each group. After continuous administration of B-GOS for 5 months, the cognitive behavior and depressive mood changes of mice in each group were detected by open field experiment, new object recognition experiment, Y maze experiment, Morris water maze experiment, tail suspension test, forced swimming test and conditioned fear experiment, respectively. Results: ①Open field experiment: the percentage of activity time in the central area of open field in APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice was significantly lower than that in C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), and was remarkably increased after B-GOS intervention (P<0.05). ② New object recognition experiment: the new object recognition index (NOI) of APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice was significantly lower than that of C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), and was observably increased after B-GOS intervention (P<0.05). ③ Y maze experiment: the spontaneous alternation correct rate of APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice was notably lower than that in C57+Vehicle group (P<0.01), and was distinctly increased after B-GOS intervention (P<0.01). ④ Classical water maze experiment: the escape latency of APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice on the 4th and 5th days was significantly longer than that of C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), which was markedly shortened after B-GOS intervention (P<0.05). During the space exploration phase, the percentage of swimming time in the target quadrant and the times of crossing the platform in APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice were significantly lower than those in C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), which were notably increased after B-GOS intervention (P<0.01). ⑤ Tail suspension test and forced swimming test: the percentage of immobility time in APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice was dramatically higher than that in C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), and was obviously reduced after B-GOS intervention (P< 0.01). ⑥ Conditioned fear experiment: before conditioned stimulus (CS), the freezing ratio of mice in each group had no statistical difference (P>0.05). After CS, the freezing ratio of APP/PS1/tau+Vehicle group mice was significantly lower than that of C57+Vehicle group mice (P<0.01), and was notably increased after B-GOS intervention (P<0.01). Conclusion: B-GOS could reverse the cognitive behavioral impairment of APP/PS1/tau mice and alleviate their depression to a large extent.

Silicosis caused by inhalation of silica particles leads to more than ten thousand new occupational exposure-related deaths yearly. Exacerbating this issue, there are currently few drugs reported to effectively treat silicosis. Tetrandrine is the only drug approved for silicosis treatment in China, and despite more than decades of use, its efficacy and mechanisms of action remain largely unknown. Here, in this study, we established silicosis mouse models to investigate the effectiveness of tetrandrine of early and late therapeutic administration. To this end, we used multiple cardiopulmonary function test, as well as markers for inflammation and fibrosis. Moreover, using single cell RNA sequencing and transcriptomics of lung tissue and quantitative microarray analysis of serum from silicosis and control mice, our results provide a novel description of the target pathways for tetrandrine. Specifically, we found that tetrandrine attenuated silicosis by inhibiting both the canonical and non-canonical NLRP3 inflammasome pathways in lung macrophages. Taken together, our work showed that tetrandrine yielded promising results against silicosis-associated inflammation and fibrosis and further lied the groundwork for understanding its molecular targets. Our results also facilitated the wider adoption and development of tetrandirne, potentially accelerating a globally accepted therapeutic strategy for silicosis.

For the separation of ethane from ethylene, it remains challenging to target both high C2 H6 adsorption and selectivity in a C2 H6 -selective material. Herein, we report a reversible solid-state transformation in a labile hydrogen-bonded organic framework to generate a new rod-packing desolvated framework (ZJU-HOF-1) with suitable cavity spaces and functional surfaces to optimally interact with C2 H6 . ZJU-HOF-1 thus exhibits simultaneously high C2 H6 uptake (88 cm3 g-1 at 0.5 bar and 298 K) and C2 H6 /C2 H4 selectivity (2.25), which are significantly higher than those of most top-performing materials. Theoretical calculations revealed that the cage-like cavities and functional sites synergistically "match" better with C2 H6 to provide stronger multipoint interactions with C2 H6 than C2 H4 . In combination with its high stability and ultralow water uptake, this material can efficiently capture C2 H6 from 50/50 C2 H6 /C2 H4 mixtures in ambient conditions under 60 % RH, providing a record polymer-grade C2 H4 productivity of 0.98 mmol g-1 .

Increasing acidity is an effective method for bacterial inactivation by inhibiting the synthesis of intracellular proteins at low pH. Photo-driven proton release probe can be used for the measurement of proton in hydrophobic condition. To develop fluorescent proton donor, two boron dipyrromethene derivatives (BDP-S and BDP-S2) were characterized by spectroscopic methods. Irradiation of BDP-S by white LED light resulted in efficient generation of acidic species with changes of fluorescence emission. The linear relationship between the pH value and the fluorescence intensity of BDP-S was obtained, indicating that BDP-S is a fluorescent visual proton donor. Light-induced antibacterial results indicate that BDP-S can significantly inhibit the growth of E. coli. The results prove that BDP-S is a very promising photoacid sterilant.

The WinEPIC model was used to simulate the dynamics of soil moisture and water productivity in the deep layer of the dry farm apple orchard of Changwu in the Loess Plateau from 1980 to 2018, aiming to provide a scientific basis for the sustainable development of apple production in the area. The results showed that the average annual yield of apple orchards in Changwu area was 27.37 t·hm-2, the average annual evapotranspiration was 673.66 mm, and the average annual water productivity was 4.07 kg·m-3. The number of water stress days in adult apple trees was mainly affected by rainfall. The average number of stress days in the late stage of apple tree growth was 46.46 d. The soil water content in deep layer began to approach withering humidity as early as 9-year-old apple trees. Water supply in the whole growing season of Changwu area was the dominant factor impacting the yield of orchards. The reduction of effective soil water content in deep soil was the main factor restricting yield enhancement in the middle and late growth stages of apple trees. When there was no sufficient precipitation, apple trees would use soil water from deeper soil layer. Excessive precipitation could not be used by apple trees but could be converted into shallow soil moisture and evaporation if the deep layer had less available water. For the mature apple trees, less than 500 mm or higher than 700 mm of annual water supply would cause a decline in production. For apple orchard at different growth periods, water management strategy should be adjusted according to rainfall conditions in different years. Supplementary irrigation, rainwater retention, covering, and pruning of branches could be used to reduce the unproductive and luxury water consumption of apple trees, delay the appearance of deep dry layer of soil, and avoid the waste of water resources while ensuring the growth of apple trees.

AIMS: To investigate the correlation between hypertriglyceridemic waist circumference (HTWC) phenotype and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS: A total of 1083 patients with gestational age ≤8 weeks were divided into four groups: normal triglyceride and waist circumference group (group A, n = 575), simple abdominal obesity group (group B, n = 317), simple high triglyceride group (group C, n = 125), and HTWC group (group D, n = 66). General information and serum biochemical indicators were measured and recorded. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between HTWC with GDM. RESULTS: The prevalence of GDM in the HTWC group was significantly greater than in the other three groups. After adjustment by multivariate logistic regression analysis, the proportion of GDM in the HTWC group was 1.753 times higher than in group A. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that there is a significant correlation between HTWC phenotype and GDM, indicating that the HTWC phenotype could be applied as a simple marker for identifying GDM risk factors.

Under irradiation of 456 nm blue light-emitting diodes, PPh3 catalyzes the iododecarboxylation of aliphatic carboxylic acid derived N-(acyloxy)phthalimide with lithium iodide as an iodine source. The reaction delivers primary, secondary, and bridgehead tertiary alkyl iodides in acetone solvent, and the alkyl iodide products were easily used to generate C-N, C-O, C-F, and C-S bonds to allow various decarboxylative transformations without using transition-metal or organic-dye-based photocatalysts.

AIMS: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) with left ventricular apical aneurysm (LVAA) is associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular events. However, the clinical significance of LVAA in apical HCM (ApHCM) has not been reported. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) characteristics, and prognosis of LVAA in ApHCM patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 1332 consecutive ApHCM patients confirmed by CMR in our hospital were retrospectively analysed. LVAAs were identified in 31 patients of all ApHCM patients (2.3%, 31/1332). Besides, 31 age- and gender-matched ApHCM patients without LVAA were used for comparison. Of the 31 aneurysm patients (mean age, 53.8 ± 15.1 years old), 28 (90.3%) had clinical symptoms, and 3 (9.7%) had a family history of HCM. The rate of missed diagnosis of echocardiography for detecting LVAA was 64.5% (20/31), most (90%, 18/20) of unidentified LVAAs by echocardiography were small aneurysms (<20 mm). Compared with ApHCM patients without LVAA, the proportion of systolic mid-cavity obstruction and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) presence, and the LGE extent in ApHCM patients with LVAA were significantly higher (all P<0.05). The Kaplan-Meier curves showed that the event-free survival rate in ApHCM patients with LVAA was significantly lower than that in ApHCM patients without LVAA (log rank, P = 0.010). CONCLUSION: ApHCM with LVAA is a very rare condition, which is often missed by echocardiography and could be reliably detected with CMR and is associated with a higher risk of adverse cardiovascular events compared with ApHCM without LVAA.

Lignocellulosic biomass has been widely introduced into the liquefaction process of sewage sludge (SS) to improve the yield/quality of liquefaction products (bio-oil/biochar). This study explores the effect of adding rice straw (RS) and wood sawdust (WS) on the transport/conversion behaviors of heavy metals (HMs) during the liquefaction of SS. The introduction of lignocellulosic biomass, especially for RS, substantially lowers the total content of HMs in biochar. Most HMs (except Cd) still remain in biochar, although the introduction of RS/WS enhances the transport of HMs into bio-oils. The addition of RS/WS raises the percentage of HMs in active form, but the contents of bioavailable/leachable HMs are not considerably increased and even decreased in some cases, especially when RS is introduced. The overall pollution degree and environmental risk of HMs in biochars are lowered to a certain extent with the addition of RS/WS. Considering that the pollution degree and environmental risk of HMs present in biochars are still at a considerable level, appropriate pollution management measures should be undertaken when using such biochars for agricultural use.

Wogonin is a main effective component of Scutellaria baicalensis, with a significant anti-cancer activity. Recently, extensive studies focused on anti-cancer pharmacological effects of wogonin, but there were still a few studies on its molecular mechanism. Therefore, the molecular targets of its anti-cancer activity were still unclear. In this study, network pharmacology was applied to investigate the potential targets and molecular pathway of wogonin in inhibiting the growth of colorectal cancer. It indicated that Wnt/ß-catenin was a key pathway of wogonin on colorectal cancer. Then, pharmacology and molecular mechanism studies were performed according to network pharmacological results. Pharmacological results revealed that wogonin inhibited significantly the proliferation of SW480(P<0.001), with a concentration-dependent regularity in the range of 12.5-50 µmol·L~(-1). Additionally, wogonin could induce G_1 phase blocking of SW480 cells. Western blot was used to investigate the effect of wogonin on four characteristic proteins of Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. CTNNB1(ß-catenin), BIRC5(survivin) and GSK3 B were down-regulated significantly, while the expression level of BAX was up-regulated(P<0.05). In conclusion, wogonin could inhibit the proliferation of SW480 cells through Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. The feature protein CTNNB1(ß-catenin), BIRC5(survivin), GSK3 B and BAX were identified as the potential targets. This study illuminated the anti-cancer molecular mechanism and drug targets of wogonin, which provided a theoretical basis for anti-colon cancer drug discovery and clinical application.

The realization of porous materials for highly selective separation of acetylene (C2 H2 ) from various other gases (e.g., carbon dioxide and ethylene) by adsorption is of prime importance but challenging in the petrochemical industry. Herein, a chemically stable Hofmann-type metal-organic framework (MOF), Co(pyz)[Ni(CN)4 ] (termed as ZJU-74a), that features sandwich-like binding sites for benchmark C2 H2 capture and separation is reported. Gas sorption isotherms reveal that ZJU-74a exhibits by far the record C2 H2 capture capacity (49 cm3 g-1 at 0.01 bar and 296 K) and thus ultrahigh selectivity for C2 H2 /CO2 (36.5), C2 H2 /C2 H4 (24.2), and C2 H2 /CH4 (1312.9) separation at ambient conditions, respectively, of which the C2 H2 /CO2 selectivity is the highest among all the robust MOFs reported so far. Theoretical calculations indicate that the oppositely adjacent nickel(II) centers together with cyanide groups from different layers in ZJU-74a can construct a sandwich-type adsorption site to offer dually strong and cooperative interactions for the C2 H2 molecule, thus leading to its ultrahigh C2 H2 capture capacity and selectivities. The exceptional separation performance of ZJU-74a is confirmed by both simulated and experimental breakthrough curves for 50/50 (v/v) C2 H2 /CO2 , 1/99 C2 H2 /C2 H4 , and 50/50 C2 H2 /CH4 mixtures under ambient conditions.

The separation of ethane (C2H6) from ethylene (C2H4) is of prime importance in the production of polymer-grade C2H4 for industrial manufacturing. It is very challenging and still remains unexploited to fully realize efficient C2H6/C2H4 separation in the emerging hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) due to the weak nature of hydrogen bonds. We herein report the benchmark example of a novel ultrarobust HOF adsorbent (termed as HOF-76a) with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area exceeding 1100 m2 g-1, exhibiting the preferential binding of C2H6 over C2H4 and thus highly selective separation of C2H6/C2H4. Theoretical calculations indicate the key role of the nonpolar surface and the suitable triangular channel-like pores in HOF-76a to sterically "match" better with the nonplanar C2H6 molecule than the planar C2H4, thus affording overall stronger multipoint van der Waals interactions with C2H6. The exceptional separation performance of HOF-76a for C2H6/C2H4 separation was clearly demonstrated by gas adsorption isotherms, ideal adsorbed solution theory calculations, and simulated and experimental breakthrough curves. Breakthrough experiments on HOF-76a reveal that polymer-grade ethylene gas can be straightforwardly produced from 50/50 (v/v) C2H6/C2H4 mixtures during the first adsorption cycle with a high productivity of 7.2 L/kg at 298 K and 1.01 bar and 18.8 L/kg at 298 K and 5.0 bar, respectively.

As plant species for riparian ecological restoration in northern China, Tamarix ramosissima and Salix matsudana play an important role in river protection, flood control, regional climate regulation, and landscape construction of riparian vegetation. Two sampling sites were selected in the riparian zones along the Lanzhou section of Yellow River, where plant xylems and potential water sources were collected. The direct comparison method, Bayesian mixture model MixSIAR and the proportional similarity index (PS index) were used to determine the proportions of water utilization for each potential water source and the relationship of two species in water utilization. The results showed that shallow soil (0-30 cm) was the main water source during growing season, with utilization ratio being 28.3% for T. ramosissima and 24.4% for S. matsudana. For T. ramosissima, river water had the lowest contribution (16.6%), and for S. matsudana, groundwater contributed the least (17.9%). In the months with low soil moisture, plants increased the utilization ratios of river water and groundwater. The PS index at the sampling site S1 and S2 was 91.0% and 87.7%, respectively. On a monthly basis, the index in May was the highest, indicating an inter-month divergence in water use relationship. At the floodplain, there were even utilization ratios for each potential water source, which is an optimal strategy to obtain water from each potential source to the maximum extent. Our results provided theoretical basis for riparian tourism development along the Lanzhou section of the Yellow River and plant water management in environment protection in the Yellow River Basin.

An investigation the optical properties and spatial distribution of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in an ecological purification system and the primary factors that affect the optical properties of the DOM was conducted. Taking the Yanlong Lake ecological purification system as an example, data from spring 2017 and 2018 were compared. The results show that the concentrations of total phosphorus and total nitrogen and the permanganate index in Yanlong Lake were 0.05-0.25, 1.25-2.75, and 3.99-7.17 mg·L-1, respectively. In addition, the dissolved oxygen in the effluent of Yanlong Lake increased to (11.93±1.31) mg·L-1, and the turbidity decreased to (13.23±2.24) NTU, while the change in the permanganate index was not significant. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the water quality of the Yanlong Lake raw water and water in the pre-treatment area was closely related to the inflow of exogenous sources, while the water quality in submerged plant areas and deep purification areas was dependent on endogenous effects. According to the fluorescence index, humification index, and biological source index analysis, it was found that there are new spontaneous sources of DOM in this body of water, the degree of humification is lower, and endogenous biological DOM is dominant. The PARAFAC model can be used to classify DOM into UV-fulvic acid-like components (239 nm, 304 nm/407 nm), visible light fulvic acid-like components (256 nm, 352 nm/439 nm), tryptophan-like protein (276 nm/327 nm) and humic acid (292 nm, 395 nm/491 nm). The UV absorption index indicates that the spectral intensity of DOM in the raw water, pretreatment unit, and emergent water plant area of Yanlong Lake fluctuates greatly, and the DOM spectral intensity of the submerged plant area and deep purification area is relatively stable. The factors affecting the optical properties of the DOM in terms of water quality parameters are mainly transparency, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total nitrogen, and algae cell number.

Tropanes are an important class of alkaloid natural products that are found in plants all over the world. These compounds can exhibit significant biological activity and are among the oldest known medicines. In the early 19th century, tropanes were isolated, characterized, and synthesized by notable chemical researchers. Their significant biological activities have inspired tremendous research efforts toward their synthesis and the elucidation of their pharmacological activity both in academia and in industry. In this chapter, which addresses the developments in this field since 1994, the focus is on the synthesis of these compounds, and several examples of sophisticated synthetic protocols involving both asymmetric and catalytic approaches are described. In addition, the structures of more than 100 new alkaloids are included as well as the applications and pharmacological properties of some tropane alkaloids.

Gastric cancer is a malignant tumor with a high degree of malignancy. Multiple liver metastases from gastric cancer (LMGCs) are common. However, the treatment of LMGCs is very difficult. It is rare to achieve complete remission (CR) and long-term survival after treatment. We present the case of a patient with gastric adenocarcinoma and multiple liver metastases who showed CR for more than 33 months after perioperative EOX (epirubicin, oxaliplatin, and capecitabine) combination chemotherapy with radical distal gastrectomy and resection of liver metastases. The patient is still in follow-up without tumor recurrence. These findings suggest that LMGC does not necessarily mean a poor prognosis; preoperative chemotherapy combined with surgery may be a good treatment option for LMGC in selected patients. Further studies are needed to support this treatment approach.
