RESUMO

A two-dimensional microscale carbon fiber/active carbon fiber system combined with a quadrupole time of flight high-resolution mass spectrometry (2DµCFs-QTOF-HRMS) system is proposed for the rapid putative identification of polar, medium-polar and weakly polar constituents in complex matrices while strongly mitigating ionic suppression effects. The capabilities of 2DµCFs-QTOF-HRMS have been proven by analysing the composition of Abelmoschus manihot flower extracts, allowing, in a single run, the detection of 41 known substances and the presence of 6 compounds never revealed before in these samples. 2DµCFs-QTOF-HRMS has been compared with traditional HPLC-MS, showing higher versatility and a significant reduction of both analysis time (70 min to 5 min) and solvent consumption (35 mL to 1.5 mL). A comparison with the results obtained by direct flow-injection MS analyses demonstrated that 2DµCFs-QTOF-HRMS leads to a more comprehensive analysis and to improved detection sensitivity. The proposed method can be considered suitable for the rapid and comprehensive analysis of food, environmental and pharmaceutical complex samples. 2DµCFs-QTOF-HRMS can thus be considered a rapid, versatile, reliable, high-throughput and economical technique that allows for the collection of information on polar, semipolar, and weakly polar components in complex matrices.

RESUMO

Efforts to therapeutically target EZH2 have generally focused on inhibition of its methyltransferase activity, although it remains less clear whether this is the central mechanism whereby EZH2 promotes cancer. In the current study, we show that EZH2 directly interacts with both MYC family oncoproteins, MYC and MYCN, and promotes their stabilization in a methyltransferase-independent manner. By competing against the SCFFBW7 ubiquitin ligase to bind MYC and MYCN, EZH2 counteracts FBW7-mediated MYC(N) polyubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Depletion, but not enzymatic inhibition, of EZH2 induces robust MYC(N) degradation and inhibits tumor cell growth in MYC(N) driven neuroblastoma and small cell lung carcinoma. Here, we demonstrate the MYC family proteins as global EZH2 oncogenic effectors and EZH2 pharmacologic degraders as potential MYC(N) targeted cancer therapeutics, pointing out that MYC(N) driven cancers may develop inherent resistance to the canonical EZH2 enzymatic inhibitors currently in clinical development.

RESUMO

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It is a self-incompatible plant species, and self-incompatibility greatly contributes to its high genetic diversity. Cultivated tea plants mainly include Camellia sinensis var. assamica (CSA) and Camellia sinensis var. sinensis (CSS). The former is characterized by large leaves, cold sensitive phenotype, an arborous or semiarborous habit, whereas CSS has smaller leaves, cold tolerance and a shrub or semishrub growth habit.

RESUMO

In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-supported noble metal (gold, silver, and platinum) nanoparticle catalysts were prepared via the one-pot facile co-reduction technique. Various measurement techniques were used to investigate the structures and properties of the catalysts. The relative intensity ratios of ID/IG in rGO/Au, rGO/Ag, rGO/Pt, and GO were 1.106, 1.078, 1.047, and 0.863, respectively. The results showed the formation of rGO and that noble metal nanoparticles were decorated on rGO. Furthermore, the catalytic activities of the designed nanocomposites were investigated via 4-nitrophenol. The catalysts were used in 4-nitrophenol reduction. The catalytic performance of the catalysts was evaluated using the apparent rate constant k values. The k value of rGO/Au was 0.618 min-1, which was higher than those of rGO/Ag (0.55 min-1) and rGO/Pt (0.038 min-1). The result proved that the rGO/Au catalyst exhibited a higher catalytic performance than the rGO/Ag catalyst and the rGO/Pt catalyst. The results provide a facile method for the synthesis of rGO-supported nanomaterials in catalysis.

RESUMO

Northeast China is an essential industrial development base in China and the regional air quality is severely affected by PM2.5 pollution. In this paper, spatial autocorrelation, trajectory clustering, hotspot analysis, PSCF and CWT analysis are used to explore the spatial pollution characteristics of PM2.5 and determine the atmospheric regional transmission pattern for 40 cities in Northeast China from 2016 to 2020. Analysis of PM2.5 concentration characteristics in the northeast indicates that the annual average value and total exceedance days of PM2.5 concentration in Northeast China showed a U-shaped change, with the lowest annual average PM2.5 concentration (31 µg/m3) in 2018, decreasing by 12.1% year-on-year, and the hourly PM2.5 concentration exploding during the epidemic lockdown period in 2020. A stable PM2.5 pollution band emerges spatially from the southwest to Northeast China. Spatially, the PM2.5 in Northeast China has a high degree of autocorrelation and a south-hot-north-cool characteristic, with all hotspots concentrated in the most polluted Liaoning province, which exhibits the H-H cluster pattern and hotspot per year. Analysis of the air mass trajectories, potential source contributions and concentration weight trajectories in Northeast China indicates that more than 74% of the air mass trajectories were transmitted to each other between the three heavily polluted cities, with the highest mean value of PM2.5 pollution trajectories reaching 222.4 µg/m3, and the contribution of daily average PM2.5 concentrations exceeding 60 µg/m3 within Northeast China. Pollution of PM2.5 throughout the Northeast is mainly influenced by short-range intra-regional transport, with long-range transport between regions also being an essential factor; organized integration is the only fundamental solution to air pollution.

RESUMO

Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a progressive optic neuropathy and its damage to vision is irreversible. Therefore, early diagnosis assisted by biomarkers is essential. Although there were multiple researches on the identification of POAG biomarkers, few studies systematically revealed the transcriptome dysregulation mechanism of POAG from the perspective of pre- and post-transcription of genes. Here, we have collected multiple sets of POAG's aqueous humor (AH) tissue transcription profiles covering long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), mRNA and mircoRNA (miRNA). Through differential expression analysis, we identified thousands of significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the AH tissue of POAG and non-glaucoma. Further, the DEGs were used to construct a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory network and 1,653 qualified lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory units were identified. Two ceRNA regulatory subnets were identified based on the random walk algorithm and revealed to be involved in the regulation of multiple complex diseases. At the pre-transcriptional regulation level, a transcriptional regulatory network was constructed and three transcription factors (FOS, ATF4, and RELB) were identified to regulate the expression of multiple genes and participate in the regulation of T cells. Moreover, we revealed the immune desert status of AH tissue for POAG patients based on immune infiltration analysis and identified a specific AL590666.2-hsa-miR-339-5p-UROD axis can be used as a biomarker of POAG. Taken together, the identification of regulatory mechanisms and biomarkers will contribute to the individualized diagnosis and treatment for POAG.

RESUMO

Lead (Pb) is a heavy metal commonly found in the environment and is known to have neurotoxic, hematological, and other toxic effects. It has been reported that Pb exposure can disturb metal regulation in the blood-cerebrospinal fluid-barrier (BCB). Copper (Cu) plays a key role in maintaining normal brain function and can accumulate in the brain after Pb exposure. However, the mechanism by which Pb affects Cu levels in the brain is still unknown. This study investigated Cu clearance by the BCB in the central nervous system (CNS) of Sprague-Dawley rats after Pb exposure by focusing on the Cu transporter protein CTR1/ATP7A. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to examine how heavy metal levels change in the hippocampus, cortex, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) after Pb exposure. Ventriculo-cisternal perfusion measurements suggested that the ability of the BCB to deliver Cu from the CSF to the blood decreased after Pb exposure. The presence of excess Cu in the choroid plexus led to CTR1/ATP7A shifting toward the apical microvilli facing the CSF after Pb exposure. We further evaluated microstructure of the choroid plexus by transmission electron microscopy, revealing altered mitochondrial morphology with decreased microvilli after Pb exposure. Conclusively, exposure to Pb alters the cellular structure of the BCB and its Cu clearance function, which can cause further brain damage.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the risk factors of moderate and severe depression and to study the effect of high quality nursing on alleviating negative emotions and improving quality of life of patients with advanced lung cancer. METHOD: A total of 100 patients with advanced lung cancer were collected from our hospital. According to the SDS score before the nursing, the patients with SDS score ≤62 and >52 were enrolled in the mild depression group, and those with SDS score >62 were enrolled in the moderate, severe depression group. The risk factors that make mild depression develop into moderate/severe depression were studied. The patients were randomly divided into a control group (n = 50) and an observation group (n = 50). The patients in both groups were given routine nursing, and those in the observation group received high quality nursing on the basis of routine nursing. The QOL-C30 was used to evaluate the changes in quality of life. The SDS (Self-Rating Depression Scale) and SAS (Self-rating Anxiety Scale) were used for assessing the degree of anxiety and depression. The incidence of complications and the nursing satisfaction of patients were observed. RESULTS: The multi-factor Logistic regression results showed that gender (OR: 3.398, 95% CI: 1.020-11.324), course of disease (OR: 0.676, 95% CI: 0.562~0.814), educational level (OR: 2.073, 95% CI: 1.165-3.688), and family income (OR: 1.676, 95% CI: 9.020) were the influence factors of moderate and severe depression. The QOL-30 score in the observation group was higher than those in the control group after nursing, and the changes in the observation group were significantly greater than those in the control group (P<0.05). After nursing, the observation group had much lower SAS and SDS scores and significantly greater changes than the control group (P<0.5). The total incidence of complications in the control group was statistically greatly higher than that in the observation group (P<0.05). The nursing satisfaction in the control group was statistically much lower than that in the observation group (P<0.5). CONCLUSIONS: Gender, course of disease, educational level, and family income are independent influencing factors of moderate and severe depression. High quality nursing can effectively improve the anxiety and depression, and quality of life of patients, which is worthy of being popularized clinically.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a novel class of non-coding RNAs formed by a covalently closed loop and play crucial roles in many biological processes. Several circRNAs associated with myogenesis have been reported. However, the dynamic expression, function, and mechanism of circRNAs during myogenesis and skeletal muscle development are largely unknown. METHODS: Strand-specific RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) and microarray datasets were used to profile the dynamic circRNAome landscape during skeletal muscle development and myogenic differentiation. Bioinformatics analyses were used to characterize the circRNAome and identify candidate circRNAs associated with myogenesis. Bulk and single-cell RNA-seq were performed to identify the downstream genes and pathways of circFgfr2. The primary myoblast cells, C2C12 cells, and animal model were used to assess the function and mechanism of circFgfr2 in myogenesis and muscle regeneration in vitro or in vivo by RT-qPCR, western blotting, dual-luciferase activity assay, RNA immunoprecipitation, RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. RESULTS: We profiled the dynamic circRNAome in pig skeletal muscle across 27 developmental stages and detected 52 918 high-confidence circRNAs. A total of 2916 of these circRNAs are conserved across human, mouse, and pig, including four circRNAs (circFgfr2, circQrich1, circMettl9, and circCamta1) that were differentially expressed (|log2 fold change| > 1 and adjusted P value < 0.05) in various myogenesis systems. We further focused on a conserved circRNA produced from the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (Fgfr2) gene, termed circFgfr2, which was found to inhibit myoblast proliferation and promote differentiation and skeletal muscle regeneration. Mechanistically, circFgfr2 acted as a sponge for miR-133 to regulate the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 20 (Map3k20) gene and JNK/MAPK pathway. Importantly, transcription factor Kruppel like factor 4 (Klf4), the downstream target of the JNK/MAPK pathway, directly bound to the promoter of circFgfr2 and affected its expression via an miR-133/Map3k20/JNK/Klf4 auto-regulatory feedback loop. RNA binding protein G3BP stress granule assembly factor 1 (G3bp1) inhibited the biogenesis of circFgfr2. CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides a comprehensive circRNA resource for skeletal muscle study. The functional and mechanistic analysis of circFgfr2 uncovered a circRNA-mediated auto-regulatory feedback loop regulating myogenesis and muscle regeneration, which provides new insight to further understand the regulatory mechanism of circRNAs.

RESUMO

Tumor cells must rewire cellular metabolism to satisfy the demands of unbridled growth and proliferation. How these metabolic processes are integrated to fuel cancer cell growth remains largely unknown. Deciphering the regulatory mechanisms is vital to develop targeted strategies for tumor-selective therapies. We herein performed an unbiased and functional siRNA screen against 96 deubiquitinases, which play indispensable roles in cancer and are emerging as therapeutic targets, and identified USP29 as a top candidate essential for metabolic reprogramming that support biosynthesis and survival in tumor cells. Integrated metabolic flux analysis and molecular investigation reveal that USP29 directly deubiquitinates and stabilizes MYC and HIF1α, two master regulators of metabolic reprogramming, enabling adaptive response of tumor cells in both normoxia and hypoxia. Systemic knockout of Usp29 depleted MYC and HIF1α in MYC-driven neuroblastoma and B cell lymphoma, inhibited critical metabolic targets and significantly prolonged survival of tumor-bearing mice. Strikingly, mice homozygous null for the Usp29 gene are viable, fertile, and display no gross phenotypic abnormalities. Altogether, these results demonstrate that USP29 selectively coordinates MYC and HIF1α to integrate metabolic processes critical for cancer cell growth, and therapeutic targeting of USP29, a potentially targetable enzyme, could create a unique vulnerability given deregulation of MYC and HIF1α frequently occurs in human cancers.

RESUMO

pH-sensitive hydrogels have been applied in delivering probiotics and drugs. However, pH sensitivity has been found to be contradictory with structural stability in hydrogel preparation. In this work, a novel strategy based on two systems of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (SA)/calcium chloride was designed to construct a reticulated shell structure stable for 3 h in simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.2) but began to break up at 2 h in simulated intestinal fluid (pH 6.8), exhibiting obvious pH sensitivity. The embedding rate of Bacillus subtilis natto reached to 67.3%, and the sustained release lasted for more than 10 h. It is implicated that the reticulated shell structure has harmoniously balanced the two incompatible properties of pH sensitivity and sustained release of CMC/CS/SA beads.

RESUMO

Avatars or agents are digitized self-representations of a player in mediated environments. While using agents to navigate through mediated environments, players form bonds with their self-agents or characters, a process referred to as identification. Identification can involve automatic, but temporary, self-concept "shifts in implicit self-perceptions" (Klimmt et al., 2010, p. 323) of the media user by adopting or emphasizing the action choices on behalf of the social expectation of the avatar in the mediated environment. In the current study, we test the possibility that users' identification with video game avatars-a bond built between avatars and players- would account for subsequent behavior changes. We did so by using 3-month longitudinal data involving a narratively-based serious game: Socially Optimized Learning in Virtual Environments (SOLVE), a 3D-interactive game designed to reduce risky sexual behaviors among young men who have sex with men (n = 444). Results show that video game identification predicts both the reduction of risky sexual behaviors over time, and reduction in the number of non-primary partners with whom risky sex occurs. And when players identify with the game character, they tend to make healthier choices, which significantly mediates the link between video game identification and reduction of risky behaviors.

RESUMO

Benzene derivatives (BDs) constitute a class of environmental pollutants whose exposure poses a grave risk to human health. These compounds rapidly diffuse from the atmosphere to the marine ecosystem: for this reason, their monitoring in seawater is every day more compelling. In this work, nanoconfined liquid phase nanoextraction (NLPNE), a versatile extraction technique recently described, has been for the first time applied to the gas chromatographic mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis of BDs in seawater. Ex-situ and in-situ NLPNE procedures have been developed and optimized in terms of extraction capabilities, analysis time, precision, and accuracy. Compared to the traditional extraction procedures, based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), the proposed NLPNE methods allowed a rapid on-site analysis of benzene compounds with low solvent consumption, higher enrichment factors, and improved automation grade. Determination coefficients ranging from 0.9929 to 0.9997 were obtained for all BDs in the range 0.10-500 ng mL-1 and 5.00-500 ng mL-1, for ex-situ and in-situ NLPNE, respectively. Ex-situ and in-situ limits of detection ranged from 0.2 to 7.6 ng mL-1 and 0.04-1.00 ng mL-1. Our results suggest that NLPNE coupled to GC-MS can be considered a powerful technique for high-throughput analyses of trace compounds in environmental, food and biological samples.

RESUMO

Continual acquisition of novel experience without interfering with previously learned knowledge, i.e., continual learning, is critical for artificial neural networks, while limited by catastrophic forgetting. A neural network adjusts its parameters when learning a new task but then fails to conduct the old tasks well. By contrast, the biological brain can effectively address catastrophic forgetting through consolidating memories as more specific or more generalized forms to complement each other, which is achieved in the interplay of the hippocampus and neocortex, mediated by the prefrontal cortex. Inspired by such a brain strategy, we propose a novel approach named triple-memory networks (TMNs) for continual learning. TMNs model the interplay of the three brain regions as a triple-network architecture of generative adversarial networks (GANs). The input information is encoded as specific representations of data distributions in a generator, or generalized knowledge of solving tasks in a discriminator and a classifier, with implementing appropriate brain-inspired algorithms to alleviate catastrophic forgetting in each module. Particularly, the generator replays generated data of the learned tasks to the discriminator and the classifier, both of which are implemented with a weight consolidation regularizer to complement the lost information in the generation process. TMNs achieve the state-of-the-art performance of generative memory replay on a variety of class-incremental learning benchmarks on MNIST, SVHN, CIFAR-10, and ImageNet-50.

RESUMO

Fibre lithium-ion batteries are attractive as flexible power solutions because they can be woven into textiles, offering a convenient way to power future wearable electronics1-4. However, they are difficult to produce in lengths of more than a few centimetres, and longer fibres were thought to have higher internal resistances3,5 that compromised electrochemical performance6,7. Here we show that the internal resistance of such fibres has a hyperbolic cotangent function relationship with fibre length, where it first decreases before levelling off as length increases. Systematic studies confirm that this unexpected result is true for different fibre batteries. We are able to produce metres of high-performing fibre lithium-ion batteries through an optimized scalable industrial process. Our mass-produced fibre batteries have an energy density of 85.69 watt hour per kilogram (typical values8 are less than 1 watt hour per kilogram), based on the total weight of a lithium cobalt oxide/graphite full battery, including packaging. Its capacity retention reaches 90.5% after 500 charge-discharge cycles and 93% at 1C rate (compared with 0.1C rate capacity), which is comparable to commercial batteries such as pouch cells. Over 80 per cent capacity can be maintained after bending the fibre for 100,000 cycles. We show that fibre lithium-ion batteries woven into safe and washable textiles by industrial rapier loom can wirelessly charge a cell phone or power a health management jacket integrated with fibre sensors and a textile display.

RESUMO

Tea trees have a high demand for nitrogen (N) fertilizer to improve the yield and quality of tea. In this research, transcriptome analysis revealed the effect of N starvation and resupply upon N uptake in tea plants. We identified 4098 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that were significantly enriched in amino acid and N metabolism and were extensively mapped to the tea genome. The CsNRT gene family plays vital roles in the nitrogen uptake of tea plants. The full CDS sequences of CsNRT1.1, CsNRT1.2, CsNRT1.5, CsNRT1.7, CsNRT2.4, CsNRT2.5, CsNRT3.1 and CsNRT3.2 were cloned. One-year-old cutting seedlings of Zhongcha302 (ZC302) were selected for hydroponic culture and were used for gene expression analysis. The seedlings were resupplied with 0.2 and 2 mM N after N starvation. The results of the gene expression under different N treatments and in various tissues indicated that the expression of CsNRT2.4 was highly expressed in tea roots and was greatly induced by N. Overexpressed CsNRT2.4 in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana increased the root lengths and fresh weights and improved the NO3- uptake rate in the Arabidopsis roots at a low NO3- level. Thus, we inferred that CsNRT2.4 was a key gene for N uptake in tea plant roots. This study provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of tea plant responses to N resupply and reveals hub genes for improving nitrogen usage efficiency (NUE) in tea plants.

RESUMO

A rapid nanoconfined liquid phase filtration system (NLPF) based on solvent-confined carbon nanofibers/carbon fiber materials (CNFs/CFs) was proposed to effectively remove chlorinated pesticides from ginsenosides-containing ginseng extracts. A series of major parameters that may affect the separation performance of the CNFs-NLPF method were extensively investigated, including the water solubility of nanoconfined solvents, filtration rate, ethanol content of the ginseng extracts, and reusability of the material for repeated adsorption. The developed method showed a high removal efficiency of pesticides (85.5-97.5%), high retainment rate of ginsenosides (95.4-98.9%), and consistent reproducibility (RSD < 11.8%). Furthermore, the feasibility of the CNFs-NLPF technique to be scaled-up for industrial application was systematically explored by analyzing large-volume ginseng extract (1 L), which also verified its excellent modifiable characteristic. This filtration method exhibits promising potential as a practical tool for removing pesticide residues and other organic pollutants in food samples to assure food quality and safeguard human health.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tea plants have high nitrogen (N) consumptions, whereas molecular and physiological responses of tea plants to N recovery are still unclear. RESULTS: By using non-invasive micro-test technology (NMT), 15 N tracer technique, ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), and transcriptome sequencing technology, we investigated the N recovery-induced changes in N absorptions, N tissue distributions, contents of free amino acids (FAAs), and global transcription of the low-N tolerant and intolerant tea genotypes [i.e. Wuniuzao (W) and Longjing43 (L)]. The results showed that the phenotype of Wuniuzao was better than that of Longjing43 under low-N condition. The N absorption and utilization of Wuniuzao were superior to Longjing43 under N recovery. The γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) ratio (N recovery/N deficiency) in the root of Wuniuzao was significantly higher than that of Longjing43, while the glutamic acid ratio in the root of Wuniuzao was significantly lower than that of Longjing43. This findings suggested that Wuniuzao tended to enhance the GABA synthesis, while Longjing43 tended to inhibit the GABA synthesis under N recovery. The key genes in response to N recovery in Wuniuzao included N transport (AMT and NRT), N transformation (NR, NirA, and GAD), and amino acid transport (GAT) genes. In addition, some ribosome and flavonoid biosynthesis genes might help to maintain proteome homeostasis. CONCLUSION: The N absorption and transport, and the conversion abilities of key amino acids (Glu and GABA) might improve the adaptability of tea plants to N recovery, which provided a basis for the breeding of N efficient tea varieties. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Current cariology education based on the traditional teaching method faces a lot of challenges. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic caused an unprecedented disruption in medical education and health care systems worldwide. Innovation in the teaching mode of cariology education is required to change the situation. OBJECTIVE: The goal of the research was to evaluate the application effects of a case-based social media-assisted teaching method in cariology education. METHODS: Dental students of class 2019 were enrolled into the experimental group, while students of class 2018 served as control. A case-based social media-assisted teaching method was used in the experimental group, which included preclass activity via social media, additional discussion and practice process record in class, and questions and answers on the platform after class. The traditional teaching method, which consisted of conventional preparation before class, traditional lectures and demonstrations followed by students practice in class, and questions and answers step after class, was used in the control group. The teaching materials were the same in both groups. At the end of the program, students from both groups took cavity preparation skill evaluation tests. Questionnaires were tested on the case-based social media-assisted teaching group students anonymously. All data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software (version 22.0, IBM Corp). RESULTS: The mean student cavity preparation skill evaluation scores was 82.51 (SD 6.82) in the experimental group and 77.19 (SD 5.98) in the control group (P<.05). The questionnaire response rate was 100%. Of those, 94.3% (100/106) of the students recommended the case-based social media-assisted teaching method in cariology education. The majority of the participants agreed that it helped them memorize the theoretical knowledge of cariology, facilitated in-depth discussion, improved their enthusiasm and initiative in learning, and enhanced the relationship between teachers and students (104/106, 98.1%). They also recognized that the classroom atmosphere was active (94/106, 88.7%). CONCLUSIONS: The case-based social media-assisted teaching method was beneficial in terms of learning, as demonstrated by the statistically significant improvement of the cavity preparation skill evaluation scores and satisfaction from attending students. This method could be used to supplement the teaching of cariology.
