RESUMO

Metallic lithium is the most competitive anode material for next-generation lithium (Li)-ion batteries. However, one of its major issues is Li dendrite growth and detachment, which not only causes safety issues, but also continuously consumes electrolyte and Li, leading to low coulombic efficiency (CE) and short cycle life for Li metal batteries. Herein, the Li dendrite growth of metallic lithium anode is suppressed by forming a lithium fluoride (LiF)-enriched solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) through the lithiation of surface-fluorinated mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB-F) anodes. The robust LiF-enriched SEI with high interfacial energy to Li metal effectively promotes planar growth of Li metal on the Li surface and meanwhile prevents its vertical penetration into the LiF-enriched SEI from forming Li dendrites. At a discharge capacity of 1.2 mAh cm-2 , a high CE of >99.2% for Li plating/stripping in FEC-based electrolyte is achieved within 25 cycles. Coupling the pre-lithiated MCMB-F (Li@MCMB-F) anode with a commercial LiFePO4 cathode at the positive/negative (P/N) capacity ratio of 1:1, the LiFePO4 //Li@MCMB-F cells can be charged/discharged at a high areal capacity of 2.4 mAh cm-2 for 110 times at a negligible capacity decay of 0.01% per cycle.

PURPOSE: The actual incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in femoral neck fractures is underestimated. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of DVT in the lower extremities after femoral neck fracture before and after operation. METHODS: The clinical data of patients with femoral neck fractures treated at Xi'an Honghui Hospital between July 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018, were collected. The patients were examined with ultrasonography before and after operation and divided into thrombosis and non-thrombosis groups according to their ultrasonographic results. The incidence of DVT was reported as a percentage. RESULTS: The incidence rates of preoperative and postoperative DVT were 32% and 56%, respectively. DVT on the uninjured side constituted 45% of all preoperative DVT and 43% of all postoperative DVT. Peripheral DVT constituted 90% and 84% of all preoperative and postoperative DVT, respectively. Diabetes was an independent risk factor of preoperative DVT. Blood loss was an independent risk factor of postoperative DVT, and open reduction and internal fixation surgical procedure was independent protective factor of postoperative DVT as compared with hemiarthroplasty and total hip replacement. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence rates of preoperative and postoperative DVT in the patients with femoral neck fracture were high, and orthopedists should pay more attention to DVT as a complication.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution in Beijing was investigated based on field observation and air quality modeling. Measurement results showed that when using elemental carbon (EC) as the reference component, concurrent increases were observed in the relative abundances of sulfate, nitrate, organic carbon (OC) and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) when RH exceeded ∼65% during winter. The observed increases could not be explained by variations of primary biomass burning emissions, instead they likely pointed to heterogeneous chemistry and presumably indicated that formation of secondary inorganic and organic aerosols might be related during winter haze events in Beijing. Large gaps were found in winter when comparing the observational and modeling results. In summer, RH exhibited little influence on the observed sulfate/EC, OC/EC or WSOC/EC, and the observed and modeled results were in general comparable for the concentrations of sulfate, EC and OC. This study suggests that distinct yet poorly-understood atmospheric chemistry may be at play in China's winter haze events, and it could be a substantial challenge to properly incorporate the related mechanisms into air quality models.

The metal-semiconductor heterostructure is an important candidate for photocatalysis due to its efficient charge transport and separation. A controllable morphology and ideal interfaces are critically significant for improving the heterostructure photocatalytic performance. By controlling the concentration of Cd2+ to control the reaction environment (pH value) and reaction rate, the CdSe nanocrystal is overgrown on the side or tip of the Au nanorods, which leads to a strong interaction between the excitons of CdSe nanocrystals and the plasmons of Au nanorods. Both kinds of Au-CdSe heterorods exhibit good hydrogen productivity. Particularly, the lateral Au-CdSe heterorods exhibit excellent photocatalytic efficiency due to the larger contact interface of Au and CdSe and the strong local field of the CdSe nanocrystals grown on one side of the Au nanorods being enhanced by the transverse plasmon resonance in the visible region. We provide an approach to modulate the combination of the asymmetric metal nanoparticle and the semiconductor shell; these core-semishell heterostructures have potential applications ranging from photocatalysis to photonic nanodevices.

Eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn) alloy is a kind of liquid metal and has attracted much attention due to good properties. In order to satisfy the trend of miniaturization and realize more practical applications, the exploration for preparation method and properties of EGaIn at nanoscale are very important. Here, facile vacuum thermal evaporation method is developed to fabricate EGaIn nanostructures. The EGaIn nanoparticle and nanofilm with naturally formed 5 nm thick oxide layers are well prepared. The oxide film formed on the EGaIn surface is an important factor, making the properties of the nanostructure different from the properties of the bulk. Compared with ignorance of oxide layer in bulk materials, the proportion of oxide layer increases evidently in nanostructures, which produce obvious influence on the electric and optical properties. The rectifying characteristic and optoelectronic performance are experimentally observed. The EGaIn nanostructures can generate evident photocurrent responses with good responsivities (∼1 mA W-1) and response speed (∼1 s) under irradiation of 206 nm, 405 nm, 532 nm, 635 nm, 808 nm, 1064 nm and 10.6 µm lasers. These properties are completely different from the metallic properties of EGaIn bulk material.

Traditional Chinese medicine is planted in mountainous areas with suitable natural conditions. The planting area is complex in terrain,and the planting plots are mostly irregularly shaped. It is difficult to accurately calculate the planting area by traditional survey methods. The method of extracting Chinese herbal medicine planting area combined with remote sensing and GIS technology is of great significance for the rational development and utilization of traditional Chinese medicine resources. Taking Bletilla striata planting in Ningshan county of Shaanxi province as an example,the extraction method of planting area of traditional Chinese medicine in county was studied. High-resolution ZY-3 and GF-1 multi-spectral multi-temporal remote sensing images were used as data sources. Through field sampling,samples such as B. striata,cultivated land,forest land,water body,artificial surface,alpine meadow,etc. are collected. The spectral features,texture features and shape features of remotely identifiable objects in different planting areas and cultivated land,vegetable sheds were analyzed,confusing ground objects were eliminated and interpretation marks were establish. The method of visual interpretation is used to realize the extraction of B. striata planting areas,and the B. striata planting area are calculated by combining GIS technology. The results showed that the method of visual interpretation,using high-resolution ZY-3 and GF-1 multi-spectral multi-temporal remote sensing image data extracted the planting area of 403.05 mu. It can effectively extract the B. striata planting area in research region.

Various hematological markers are associated with survival in patients with glioblastomas (GBMs), as they reflect inflammation and nutrition status. However, single markers are insufficient for predicting prognosis in GBM, and a comprehensive scoring system is needed. In this study, we developed a simple, inexpensive, and non-invasive scoring system, referred to as the Sanbo Scoring System (SSS), to predict survival in patients with GBMs. Patients with GBM were retrospectively assigned to two independent cohorts at Sanbo Brain Hospital and National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital. Clinical records, including age, routine blood tests, biochemistry and coagulation examinations, and IDH-1 status, were collected. In total, 274 and 87 patients with GBMs at Sanbo Brain Hospital and National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital were included as derivation and validation cohorts, retrospectively. We developed the SSS based on data for the derivation cohort, i.e., age, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), and fibrinogen levels. These patients were divided into three groups that differed with respect to age, inflammation-nutrition status, and overall survival (p < 0.001), i.e., SSS 0, 1, and 2. NLR, PLR, and fibrinogen levels were lower and AGR was higher in the SSS 2 group than in the other groups, indicating better inflammation and nutrition statuses. Additionally, the longest overall survival was observed in this group. A multivariate analysis showed that SSS was an independent prognostic factor. The validation cohort supported all the results. SSS was a simple, non-invasive, and effective scoring system, and independently predicted survival in GBMs.

Using DMSO as both the solvent and terminal oxidant, oxidative coupling of vinylarenes with bromocarboxylates proceeded readily, giving a variety of γ-ketoesters in good isolated yields and with a broad functional-group tolerance.

BACKGROUND: To explore whether a polypropylene mesh is suitable for application as a new material for testicular prostheses. METHODS: The data of 65 patients with advanced prostate cancer who underwent surgical castration in hospital were collected and analyzed. Patients who preferred to undergo traditional orchidectomy (n = 16) were assigned to the control group, and patients who underwent subcapsular orchiectomy plus implantation of a polypropylene mesh testicular prosthesis (n = 49) were assigned to the experimental group. The presence of hematoma, infection, and other complications in patients in these two groups were investigated at 3 and 12 months following the surgery. The patients were also followed up using a self-designed testicular castration satisfaction questionnaire. RESULTS: A higher score indicated greater satisfaction. The mean score was 15.33 ± 2.85 in the experimental group and 4.63 ± 1.45 in the control group at 3 months after the surgery. The mean score was 14.92 ± 1.74 in the experimental group and 4.25 ± 1.61 in the control group at 12 months after the surgery. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant at the two time points (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with orchidectomy alone, patients were more satisfied with subcapsular orchiectomy plus the implantation of a polypropylene mesh testicular prosthesis for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Furthermore, the polypropylene mesh testicular prosthesis maintained its original character over the duration of the study, with a good long-term effect. Thus, implantation of a polypropylene mesh testicular prosthesis is indicated to be safe and effective, and polypropylene mesh is potentially useful as a new material for testicular prostheses.

NF-κB activating protein (NKAP) is a highly conserved protein involved in transcriptional repression, immune cell development, maturation, acquisition of functional competency and maintenance of hematopoiesis. In the present study, the function of NKAP in the progress of Ewing sarcoma (ES) was investigated. It was identified that NKAP is highly expressed in ES cells when compared with human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). NKAP was knocked-down in human ES cell lines A673 and RD-ES using small interfering (si)RNA transfection. The effectiveness of transfection was then verified using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot analysis to determine mRNA and protein levels, respectively. The results of the proliferation assays indicated that the knockdown of NKAP inhibited the proliferation and clonogenic abilities of human ES cells. Transwell assays further indicated that cell invasion and migration were significantly inhibited by NKAP knockdown, which may be mediated by downregulation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 activity. Gain-of-function analysis also demonstrated the positive role NKAP played in the proliferation, invasion and migration of ES cells. Cell apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry, which identified that apoptotic cells were significantly increased when NKAP was silenced. In addition, downregulation of NKAP increased the levels of Bax and cleaved caspase 3, but decreased Bcl2 levels, which suggested that the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway was activated. To explore the action mechanism of NKAP, the status of the AKT signaling pathway in NKAP-silenced A673 and RD-ES cells was investigated. Results indicated that NKAP knockdown led to decreased phosphorylation of AKT and expression of cyclin D1, a down-stream effector of the AKT signaling pathway, suggesting inactivation of the AKT signaling pathway. In conclusion, the present study revealed that NKAP promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of ES cells, at least partly, through the AKT signaling pathway, providing new approaches for the therapeutic application of NKAP in ES.

Danshen (salvia miltiorrhiza) and honghua(Carthamus tinctorius) were traditional herb pair with promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis actions, in China. Both were widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases (CVD) for hundreds years, especially shown definite advantage in the treatment of ischemic heart disease (IHD). However, the mechanism of danshen-honghua herb pair (DHHP) in the treatment of IHD was still unclear. This study was focused on examining the effects and possible mechanisms of DHHP in rats with acute myocardial ischemia induced by isoproterenol (ISO). The results suggested that DHHP significantly ameliorated the myocardial tissue abnormalities, notablely inhibited the elevation of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatinekinase isoenzyme (CK-MB) and cardiac troponin T (CTn-T) in plasma, obviously decreased the plasma levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor α (TNF-α), outstandingly inhibited the reduction of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) caused by ISO, significantly inhibited the high expression of Bcl-2 assaciated X protein (Bax) and nuclear transcriptionfactor-κBP65 (NF-κBP65) protein, significantly induced the low expression of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) protein in acute myocardial ischemia rats. DHHP can obviously ameliorate hemodynamic parameters. In summary, DHHP can significantly improve myocardial ischemia in acute myocardial ischemia model rats caused by ISO. Anti-free radicals, anti-peroxidation, inhibition of cell apoptosis and anti- inflammation maybe are the potential mechanisms of DHHP anti-myocardial ischemia in acute myocardial ischemia rats in duced by ISO.

Sodium-based layered oxides are among the leading cathode candidates for sodium-ion batteries, toward potential grid energy storage, having large specific capacity, good ionic conductivity, and feasible synthesis. Despite their excellent prospects, the performance of layered intercalation materials is affected by both a phase transition induced by the gliding of the transition metal slabs and air-exposure degradation within the Na layers. Here, this problem is significantly mitigated by selecting two ions with very different MO bond energies to construct a highly ordered Ni6 -ring superstructure within the transition metal layers in a model compound (NaNi2/3 Sb1/3 O2 ). By virtue of substitution of 1/3 nickel with antimony in NaNiO2 , the existence of these ordered Ni6 -rings with super-exchange interaction to form a symmetric atomic configuration and degenerate electronic orbital in layered oxides can not only largely enhance their air stability and thermal stability, but also increase the redox potential and simplify the phase-transition process during battery cycling. The findings reveal that the ordered Ni6 -ring superstructure is beneficial for constructing highly stable layered cathodes and calls for new paradigms for better design of layered materials.

Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been recently demonstrated to be a predictor of inflammation. High pretreatment RDW level is associated with poor survival outcomes in various malignancies, although the results are controversial. We aimed to investigate the prognostic role of RDW. A systematic literature search was performed in MEDLINE and EMBASE till April 2018. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) were estimated for overall survival (OS) and combined disease-free survival, progression-free survival, and recurrence-free survival (DFS/PFS/RFS). 49 studies with 19,790 individuals were included in the final analysis. High RDW level adversely affected both OS and DFS/PFS/RFS. For solid cancers, colorectal cancer (CRC) had the strongest relationship with poor OS, followed by hepatic cancer (HCC). Negative OS outcomes were also observed in hematological malignancies. Furthermore, patients at either early or advanced stage had inverse relationship between high pretreatment RDW and poor OS. Studies with cut-off values between 13% and 14% had worse HRs for OS and DFS/PFS/RFS than others. Furthermore, region under the curve (ROC) analysis was used widely to define cut-off values and had relatively closer relationship with poorer HRs. In conclusion, our results suggested that elevated pretreatment RDW level could be a negative predictor for cancer prognosis.

Spinel-type LiMn2O4 cathode materials commonly suffer from manganese dissolution due to the severe interfacial side reactions especially at elevated temperature. Here, a 3D hollow fusiform LiMn2O4 cathode material is reported with preferentially exposed stable {111} facets and seamless outer structure, which is clearly confirmed by microfocused ion beam scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy as well as scanning transmission electron microscopy with atomic resolution. Owing to the optimal geometrical structure design and the preferentially exposed stable {111} facets, the electrode delivers excellent rate capability (107.6 mAh g-1 at 10 C), remarkable cycling stability (83.3% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1 C), and outstanding high-temperature performance. Together with the analyses of electrochemical behaviors, in situ X-ray diffraction at different temperatures, and ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectra, the underlying working mechanism for suppressing manganese dissolution is clearly articulated. These findings could provide significant guidelines for precisely designing highly stable cathode materials for LIBs.

Introduction: As a key element in arguably the most important pathway MAPK signaling, the BRAF kinase gives rise to severe diseases including cancers when pathologically activated. Extensive research on BRAFi (BRAF inhibitor) has been carried out to profile the characters for optimized agents and to elaborate the therapeutic strategies for the related cancer treatment. Areas covered: This review gives an overview of recently approved BRAF agents on function mode, therapeutic efficacy, and deficiency, based on which current challenges and corresponding strategies were presented. New entities as BRAFi for medical purpose in patent literature during the period 2013-2018 were also briefly introduced. Expert opinion: With the disclosure of paradox-breaker BRAFi PLX7904 crystal in complex with BRAF, the rational design for next-generation BRAFi is becoming ever more feasible. Accompanying therapeutic strategies in BRAFi elaboration may also provide flexible choice in the future 'personal medicine'. Further digging in the greatly enriched BRAFi pool will greatly benefit the drug design processes such as FBDD- and SBDD-driven development.

Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) plays an important role in modulating the activity of microbe cell. In this study, PKA (protein kinase A) activity was weakened through truncation of TPK2 promoter (-150 bp and -300 bp) and gene deletion of BCY1 (encodes the regulatory subunit of PKA), TPK1 and TPK3, generating strains BY9a-T2-150 and BY9a-T2-300, respectively. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis showed cAMP levels in BY9a-T2-150 and BY9a-T2-300 were increased by 5- and 18-fold, respectively, compared with that of parent strain, BY9a. The expression levels of TPK2 gene in two engineered strains were decreased by 95% and 97% compared with that of BY9a, respectively. The PKA activity reflected by heat resistance of engineered strains enhanced compared with parent strain BY9a. This study show a new method to increase the intracellular cAMP concentration in industrial yeast by fine-tuning of PKA activity, without influence in growth and fermentation properties. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: cAMP as the "second messenger," is essential for plant, animal, and microorganisms and human life. But its synthesis is still limited by expensive cost and time-consuming method. We constructed the industrial baker's yeast with high level of cAMP and desired to be used to produce functional food for relaxing smooth muscle, expanding blood vessels, improving liver function, and promoting nerve regeneration and as a food additive for treating hyperthyreosis and hepatopathy. The methods of two step homologous recombination and backcross operated in this study eliminate the exogenous gene in engineered strains, made it safety to be used in food production. Fine-tuning of PKA activity in engineered strains ensure produce high level of cAMP and exhibit normal growth performance in engineering strains. Therefore, this work is significant in functional foods product and has the potential to be used in practical application.

The development of highly efficient and stable cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) is strategically critical to achieving large-scale electrical energy storage. Creating air-stable and high-voltage layered cathodes for sodium-ion full batteries still remains a challenge. Herein, we describe a rational design and preparation of a stable P3-Na2/3Ni1/4Mg1/12Mn2/3O2 cathode. The cathode displays a satisfactory working voltage of 3.6 V and excellent cyclic stability over 100 cycles at a 1 C rate without obvious capacity fading. The results of ex situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) demonstrate that the P3-type structure is well retained even when charged to 4.4 V. Furthermore, the structural characterization by XRD Rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical testing certifies that the cathode maintains its structure commendably even when soaked in water for 12 h. In particular, the P3- Na2/3Ni1/4Mg1/12Mn2/3O2∥hard carbon full battery exhibits a desired competitively high voltage of 3.45 V and an attractive energy density of up to 412.2 W h kg-1 based on the cathode. The comprehensive results achieved by the specially designed strategy provide guidance toward the exploration of stable cathodes in the application of SIBs as modern energy-storage devices.

A chemical investigation on 70% EtOH extract from the bark of Phellodendron chinense Schneid (Rutaceae) led to six new methyl apiofuranosides (1-6), and ten known compounds (7-16). All these compounds were characterized by the basic analysis of the spectroscopic data including extensive 1D-, 2D-NMR (HSQC, HMBC), and high-resolution mass spectrometry, and the absolute configurations were determined by both empirical approaches and NOESY. Inhibitory effects of compounds 1-9 and 11-16 on nitric oxide production were investigated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated RAW 264.7 cells, as a result, most of these isolates inhibited nitric oxide (NO) release, and among them 9, 11, and 12 displayed the strongest inhibition on NO release at the concentration of 12.5 µM.
