Perirenal fat is adjacent to kidneys and active in metabolism and adipokine secretion. We aimed to investigate whether perirenal fat is an independent predictor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and compared it with total, subcutaneous, or visceral fat in patients with diabetes. Perirenal fat thickness (PRFT) was measured by computed tomography, and total body fat (TBF), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) were assessed by DEXA. In cross-sectional analysis, patients with higher PRFT had a lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Multiple linear regression analysis showed a negative correlation between PRFT and eGFR after confounders adjustment. No association between eGFR and TBF, SAT, or VAT was observed. Longitudinally, 190 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) without CKD at baseline were followed for 2 years. A total of 29 participants developed CKD. After VAT-based multivariate adjustment, each SD (per-SD) increment in baseline PRFT was associated with a higher incidence of CKD (hazard ratio 1.67, 95% CI 1.04-2.68), while TBF, SAT, and VAT were not. Furthermore, PRFT predicted CKD, with a C-statistic (95% CI) of 0.668 (0.562, 0.774), which was higher than that of TPF [0.535 (0.433, 0.637)], SAT [0.526 (0.434, 0.618)], and VAT [0.602 (0.506, 0.698)]. In conclusion, with perirenal fat there was a higher predictive value for CKD than with total, subcutaneous, or visceral fat in T2DM.

BACKGROUND: The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) are the most commonly used scales to detect mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in population-based epidemiologic studies. However, their comparison on which is best suited to assess cognition is scarce in samples from multiple regions of China. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 4923 adults aged ≥55 years from the Community-based Cohort Study on Nervous System Diseases. Objective cognition was assessed by Chinese versions of MMSE and MoCA, and total score and subscores of cognitive domains were calculated for each. Education-specific cutoffs of total score were used to diagnose MCI. Demographic and health-related characteristics were collected by questionnaires. Correlation and agreement for MCI between MMSE and MoCA were analyzed; group differences in cognition were evaluated; and multiple logistic regression model was used to clarify risk factors for MCI. RESULTS: The overall MCI prevalence was 28.6% for MMSE and 36.2% for MoCA. MMSE had good correlation with MoCA (Spearman correlation coefficient = 0.8374, p < 0.0001) and moderate agreement for detecting MCI with Kappa value of 0.5973 (p < 0.0001). Ceiling effect for MCI was less frequent using MoCA versus MMSE according to the distribution of total score. Percentage of relative standard deviation, the measure of inter-individual variance, for MoCA (26.9%) was greater than for MMSE (19.0%) overall (p < 0.0001). Increasing age (MMSE: OR = 2.073 for ≥75 years; MoCA: OR = 1.869 for≥75 years), female (OR = 1.280 for MMSE; OR = 1.163 for MoCA), living in county town (OR = 1.386 and 1.862 for MMSE and MoCA, respectively) or village (OR = 2.579 and 2.721 for MMSE and MoCA, respectively), smoking (OR = 1.373 and 1.288 for MMSE and MoCA, respectively), hypertension (MMSE: OR = 1.278; MoCA: OR = 1.208) and depression (MMSE: OR = 1.465; MoCA: OR = 1.350) were independently associated with greater likelihood of MCI compared to corresponding reference group in both scales (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: MoCA is a better measure of cognitive function due to lack of ceiling effect and with good detection of cognitive heterogeneity. MCI prevalence is higher using MoCA compared to MMSE. Both tools identify concordantly modifiable factors for MCI, which provide important evidence for establishing intervention measures.

Studies on the intraindividual double burden of malnutrition (DBM) among Chinese children and adolescents were lacking. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of intraindividual DBM defined as the coexistence of overweight/obesity and dietary micronutrient intake insufficiency and investigate dietary micronutrient intake in Chinese children and adolescents. Using data from the 2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), 1555 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years were selected as the subjects. We referred to China Food Composition to calculate the intakes of 11 selected dietary micronutrients from diet data collected by consecutive three days of 24 h recalls combined with household weighing of seasonings. We used the Chinese estimated average requirement (EARs) as a cutoff to define the dietary micronutrients deficiency, and applied the body-mass-index-for-age Z-scores (BAZ) of World Health Organization (WHO) child growth standards to define the category of body weight. Among the subjects in present study, the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 15.43% and 11.06%, respectively, and 26.24% of the subjects had undergone intraindividual DBM. The results suggest that the prevalence of intraindividual DBM and dietary micronutrients deficiency in Chinese children and adolescents is high.

It is still a huge challenge to develop highly efficient and low-cost non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts for overall water splitting in alkaline electrolytes. Herein, Cr and Fe co-doped CoP porous mesh nanosheets (Mesh-CrFe-CoP NSs) were synthesized through hydrolysis reaction, ion exchange etching and subsequent low-temperature phosphating process. The Mesh-CrFe-CoP NSs provides overpotentials at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 under alkaline electrolyte of 103.7 mV and 256.4 mV for HER and OER, respectively. Furthermore, when using Mesh-CrFe-CoP NSs as anode and cathode, the water splitting system could afford a current density of 10 mA cm-2 at 1.55 V, which is better than an electrolytic cell composed of 20 % Pt/C and RuO2. The excellent electrocatalytic performance of Mesh-CrFe-CoP NSs is attributed to the co-doping and porous nanostructure. Specifically, the Cr and Fe co-doped porous CoP nanosheets electrocatalyst not only provided abundant exposure active sites, accelerated the entry of liquid and the diffusion of gas, but also regulated the electronic environment of active sites, and thus enhanced the electrochemical performance. This work proposes a strategy for the rational design of highly efficient and stable non-precious metal co-doped phosphide electrocatalysts in the of electrochemical water splitting.

Little is known about the impact of modifiable risk factors on blood pressure (BP) trajectories and their associations with hypertension (HTN). We aimed to identify BP trajectories in normotensive Chinese adults and explore their influencing factors and associations with HTN. We used data from 3436 adults with at least four BP measurements between 1989 and 2018 in the China Health and Nutrition Survey, an ongoing cohort study. We measured BP using mercury sphygmomanometers with appropriate cuff sizes in all surveys. We used group-based trajectory modelling to identify BP trajectories between 1989 and 2009 and multiple logistic and Cox regression models to analyse their influencing factors and associations with HTN in 2011-2018. We identified five systolic blood pressure (SBP) trajectories, 'Low-increasing (LI)', 'Low-stable (LS)', 'Moderate-increasing (MI)', 'High-stable (HS)' and 'Moderate-decreasing (MD)', and four diastolic blood pressure (DBP) trajectories classified as 'Low-increasing (LI)', 'Moderate-stable (MS)', 'Low-stable (LS)' and 'High-increasing (HI)'. People with higher physical activity (PA) levels and lower waist circumferences (WC) were less likely to be in the SBP LI, MI, HS and MD groups (P < 0·05). People with higher fruit and vegetable intakes, lower WCs and salt intakes and higher PA levels were less likely to be in the DBP LI, MS and HI groups (P < 0·05). Participants in the SBP HS group (hazard ratio (HR) 2·01) or the DBP LI, MS and HI groups (HR 1·38, 1·40, 1·71, respectively) had higher risks of HTN (P < 0·05). This study suggests that BP monitoring is necessary to prevent HTN in the Chinese population.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the application value of mapping allele with resolved carrier status (MaReCs) technique for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). METHODS: The characteristics of MaReCs for PGT and outcome of patients were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Compared with those who could not use the technique, carriers who have used the MaReCs technique were younger, had significantly higher level of anti-Mullerian hormone, more antral follicles, occytes, mature occytes, biopsied embryos and euploid embryos, and lower risks for de novo chromosomal abnormality (P<0.05). It was necessary for couples with fewer oocytes, mature oocytes and balstocyst to preserve discarded embryos to facilitate the test. Carriers who have used the MaReCs technique had higher clinical pregnancy rate and abortion rate compared with those undergoing routine PGT, albeit no significant difference was found between the two groups (P> 0.05). Carriers undergoing MaReCs test could preferentially select embryos with normal chromosome structures for the transfer. CONCLUSION: Application of MaReCs has a prerequisite for having a minimum number of occytes and biopsied embryos and using discarded embryos sometimes. MaReCs is efficient for the detection of carrier status of embryos and attaining higher rate of pregnancy and live birth, which can significantly improve the outcome for couples carrying chromosomal translocations.

In view of the possible involvement of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in pathogenesis of adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) based on our previous genome-wide association study (GWAS) results, the primary objective of this study, therefore, was to investigate the correlations between the content of VEGF-C in serum and clinical and biochemical markers of AOSD. Blood samples were collected from 80 patients with AOSD, 26 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), 30 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 31 healthy control subjects. The serum VEGF-C levels were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Statistical analysis and comparisons were conducted. A significantly higher serum VEGF-C level was observed in patients with AOSD than in HC. Serum VEGF-C levels had high AUC value of 0.8145 for distinguishing AOSD group from healthy group with sensitivity of 0.7097 and specificity of 0.8250. It also showed good diagnostic value to differentiate AOSD from other autoinflammatory diseases with sensitivity of 0.7500 and specificity of 0.5500. AOSD patients with fever, arthralgia, skin rash, sore throat, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly hepatomegaly and pleuritis, had a higher level than those who did not have these symptoms (p = 0.0012, p = 0.0092, p = 0.0056, p = 0.0123, p = 0.0068, p = 0.0030, p = 0.0020, and p = 0.0018, respectively). The serum VEGF-C levels were also positively correlated with laboratory features and several cytokines related to AOSD disease activity. In conclusion, our study unveiled a close association between serum VEGF-C levels and AOSD including disease activity and clinical hematological manifestations, suggesting the potential utility of VEGF-C as a candidate biomarker to assess disease activity in AOSD.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Breast cancer incidence is highest among women worldwide, and practical markers for personalized therapeutic strategies are few. Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is a cytokine that is reported to be significantly lower in healthy controls than breast cancer cases, however, its genotypic contribution to carcinogenesis has never been revealed in breast cancer. We examined whether IL-12A rs568408 and rs2243115 genotypes contribute to elevated breast cancer risk and summarized related literature among other cancers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: IL-12A genotypic profiles were determined among 1,232 breast cancer cases and 1,232 healthy controls via polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology. RESULTS: The variant genotypes of IL-12A rs568408 and rs2243115 were not found to be significantly associated with elevated breast cancer risk (both p>0.05). CONCLUSION: IL-12A rs568408 and rs2243115 genotypes may not serve as good predictors of breast cancer risk.

In recent years, tumor immunotherapy, especially the combination of PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors and chemotherapy, has developed rapidly. However, the systemic side effects induced by chemotherapy remain a crucial problem that needs to be addressed. Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) are exceptional target-specific prodrugs that greatly improve the therapeutic window of chemotherapy drugs. Therefore, designing PD-L1-targeting ADCs is an interesting research project. In this study, we confirmed for the first time that the commercial anti-PD-L1 antibody Atezolizumab has better endocytosis efficiencies than Avelumab, and was more suitable for ADC design. Then, the most popular cytotoxic payload MMAE was conjugated to Atezolizumab via a classical dipeptide (valine-alanine) linker to generate a bifunctional PD-L1 ADC (ADC 3). An in vitro cytotoxicity test indicated the potent tumor cell inhibitory activity of ADC 3, with EC50 values of 9.75 nM to 11.94 nM. In addition, a co-culture of PBMCs in vitro proved that ADC 3 retained the immune activation effect of the Atezolizumab antibody. Moreover, ADC 3 exhibited a higher tumor inhibition rate and tumor regression rate in humanized immune system mice. To the best of our knowledge, this is the most active PD-L1-ADC reported thus far, which may promote the development of immunotherapy and novel ADCs.

AIM: There is very little literature reporting the association of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP1) with personal susceptibility to bladder cancer. In the current study, we carried out the first examination of the contribution of MMP1 rs1799750 to bladder cancer risk in Taiwanese. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 375 bladder cancer cases and 375 healthy controls were genotyped for MMP1 rs1799750 via polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology and this was evaluated for association with clinicopathological factors. RESULTS: The frequencies of MMP1 rs1799750 2G/2G, 1G/2G, and 1G/1G genotypes were 35.7%, 44.8% and 19.5% in the group with bladder cancer and 32.5%, 46.4%, and 21.1% in the healthy control group (p for trend=0.6362). The odds ratios (ORs) for bladder cancer risk after adjusting for age and gender for those carrying 1G/2G and 1G/1G genotypes at MMP1 rs1799750 were 0.88 (95% CI=0.62-1.24, p=0.4357) and 0.83 (95% CI=0.61-1.26, p=0.3990), respectively, compared with the wild-type 2G/2G genotype. In allelic frequency analysis, the adjusted OR for those carrying the 1G allele at MMP1 rs1799750 was 0.87 (95% CI=0.71-1.23, p=0.3479) compared to those people carrying a 2G allele. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that the genotypes at MMP1 rs1799750 appear to play little role in determining personal susceptibility to bladder cancer for Taiwanese.

In this study, a BDD electrolytic oxidation-ceramic membrane ultrafiltration (EO-CM) system for the removals of antibiotics, organic matters and ammonia in wastewater was evaluated. Sulfamethazine (SMZ) was degraded following a pseudo first-order kinetics. The removal rate of SMZ improved with the increase of electro-oxidation time (0-60 min) and current density (5-30 mA/cm2). During the BDD electro-oxidation process, H2O2 and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) were generated which were detected by N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD) method and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), respectively. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) was able to be removed by EO and CM processes, in which proteins and humic acids were regarded as the main removed components measured using excitation-emission matrix (EEM) technique. Moreover, BDD electro-oxidation pretreatment could make the CM process maintain a high water flux and significantly control the membrane fouling and relieve transmembrane pollution. In addition, the removal of ammonia was enhanced with the increase of chloride ions (Cl-) in wastewater during EO process due to the generation of active chlorine (i.e., ClO-, HClO, or Cl2) from the oxidation of Cl-. Chloramine and nitrogen were produced in the oxidation of ammonia by active chlorine. Overall, the results of this study suggest that BDD EO-CM system is a promising process for removing antibiotics, organic matters and ammonia.

Phosphatase and tensin homolog-long (PTEN-L) is a translational isoform of PTEN, which exists in both intracellular and extracellular locations. Previous studies demonstrated that PTEN-L could inhibit oncogenesis due to its lipid phosphatase activity. However, recent studies found that PTEN-L could promote the proliferation of some types of cancer cells. Moreover, as a protein phosphatase, PTEN-L can suppress mitophagy by counteracting PTEN-induced putative kinase protein 1 (PINK1)-Parkin-mediated ubiquitin phosphorylation, namely, PTEN-L is critical for exploring the mitophagy progression and the treatment of mitochondrial diseases. Accounting for the critical functions of PTEN-L, its antibody can be used for the treatment or prognosis of tumors and mitochondrial diseases. Currently, the commercial antibody of PTEN-L is not available. In our study, the recombinant PTEN-L protein was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 and used as an antigen to immunize Japan's big-eared white rabbit for the preparation of polyclonal antibody. The PTEN-L protein can be captured by PTEN-L antibody specifically and effectively. Taken together, a PTEN_L antibody is a valuable tool for further exploring the function of PTEN-L in oncogenesis and mitochondrial diseases, and it would be a new choice for the prognosis or treatment of cancer and mitochondrial diseases.

It is essential to understand the impact of different dietary pattern trajectories on health over time. Therefore, we aimed to explore the long-term trajectories of dietary patterns among Chinese adults and examine the prospective association between different trajectory groups and the risk of overweight/obesity. The sample was 9299 adults aged 18 years or older from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) between 1991 and 2018. We used factor analysis to identify dietary patterns and group-based trajectory modeling to identify dietary pattern trajectories. Three trajectories of a southern pattern and a modern pattern and four trajectories of a meat pattern were identified. Participants who followed the highest initial score and a slight decrease trajectory (OR = 1.63; 95% CI: 1.04, 2.54) of the meat dietary pattern were positively associated with risk of overweight/obesity when compared with the lowest initial score trajectory. The southern dietary pattern and the modern dietary pattern trajectories of participants in Group 2 (OR = 0.64; 95% CI: 0.51, 0.81; OR = 0.76; 95% CI: 0.63, 0.91) and Group 3 (OR = 0.71; 95% CI: 0.54, 0.91; OR = 0.64; 95% CI: 0.44, 0.90) were associated with lower risk of overweight/obesity when compared with Group 1. We observed that dietary pattern trajectories have different associations with overweight/obesity among Chinese adults.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the basic nutrition working status in Chinese CDCs. METHODS: The questionnaire of nutritional working ability of CDC was designed for investigation. The questionnaire was filled in by all disease control institutions of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps(excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). Data was inputted by each institution through a questionn aire-survey platform called 'wenjuanxing& apos; , and the quality control was carried out by the provincial CDCs according to their jurisdiction. RESULTS: A total of 3150 valid questionnaires were collected. 35.97% of the institutions surveyed had never undertaken nutrition-related work, and only 4.19% of them had set up an independent department for nutrition-related work. The average number of people engaged in nutrition work was 2.5(P50=1.0); The average number of full-time staff was 0.2(P50=0.0). The average number of full-time staff in provincial, municipal and county CDCs was 3.6, 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. In terms of the nutrition work, by 2020 the China Nutrition and Health Surveillance and the National Food Nutrition Surveillance have covered 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Besides Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian, provincial CDCs implemented the Nutrition Improvemeat Program for Compulsory Education Students in Rural Area. As to the scientific research, only 9.08% of the institutions have carried out nutrition-related projects in the past five years. Particularly, there were little nutrition-related scientific research funds for municipal and county disease control institutions, while 96.57% of the institutions do not have special funds for nutrition work. From 2015 to 2019, the proportion of the institutions that published nutrition-related papers, published nutrition-related books, won nutrition-related awards, and participated in the formulation of nutrition-related standards was 3.81%, 1.27%, 5.65% and 0.70%, respectively. With regard to the implementation of the six major actions of the National Nutrition Plan(2017-2030), only 29.81% of CDCs have organized and carried out related actions. CONCLUSION: Disease control institutions are short of nutrition professional posts, professional personnel, nutrition work funds and scientific research investment, lack of regular nutrition work tasks. Therefore, the nutrition capacity of the CDCs needs to be strengthened, and more efforts will be needed to meet the requirements of the National Nutrition Plan(2017-2030) and the Healthy China Action(2019-2030)-Healthy Diet Campaign.

Phagocytic resistance plays a key role in tumor-mediated immune escape, so phagocytosis immune checkpoints are a potential target for cancer immunotherapy. CD47 is one of the important phagocytosis immune checkpoints; thus, blocking the interaction between CD47 and signal regulatory protein α (SIRPα) may provide new options for cancer treatment. Using computer-aided targeted epitope mammalian cell-displayed antibody library, we screened and obtained an engineered SIRPα variant fragment crystallizable fusion protein, FD164, with higher CD47-binding activity than wild-type SIRPα Compared with wild-type SIRPα, FD164 has approximately 3-fold higher affinity for binding to CD47, which further enhanced its phagocytic effect in vitro and tumor suppressor activity in vivo. FD164 maintains the similar antitumor activity of the clinical research drug Hu5F9 in the mouse xenograft model. Furthermore, FD164 combined with rituximab can significantly improve the effect of single-agent therapy. On the other hand, compared with Hu5F9, FD164 does not cause hemagglutination, and its ability to bind to red blood cells or white blood cells is weaker at the same concentration. Finally, it was confirmed by computer structure prediction and alanine scanning experiments that the N45, E47, 52TEVYVK58, K60, 115EVTELTRE122, and E124 residues of CD47 are important for SIRPα or FD164 recognition. Briefly, we obtained a high-affinity SIRPα variant FD164 with balanced safety and effectiveness. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Up to now, few clinically marketed drugs targeting CD47 have been determined to be effective and safe. FD164, a potential signal regulatory protein α variant fragment crystallizable protein with balanced safety and effectiveness, could provide a reference for the development of antitumor drugs.

Summer bivalve shellfish mortalities have been observed in Puget Sound for nearly a century and attempts to understand and mitigate these losses have been only partially successful. Likewise, the understanding of the environmental conditions triggering shellfish mortalities and successful strategies for their mitigation are incomplete. In the literature, phytoplankton have played only a cursory role in summer shellfish mortalities in Washington State because spawning stress and bacteria were thought to be the primary causes. In recent years, the occurrence of Protoceratium reticulatum (Claparede & Lachmann) Buetschli and Akashiwo sanguinea (Hirasaka) Hansen & Moestrup, have been documented by the SoundToxins research and monitoring partnership in increasing numbers and duration and have been associated with declining shellfish health or mortality at various sites in Puget Sound. Blooms of these species occur primarily in summer months and have been shown to cause mass mortalities of shellfish in the U.S. and other parts of the world. In 2016-2017, yessotoxins (YTX) were measured in several species of Puget Sound bivalve shellfish, with a maximum concentration of 2.20 mg/kg in blue mussels, a value below the regulatory limit of 3.75 mg/kg established by the European Union for human health protection but documented to cause shellfish mortalities in other locations around the world. In July 2019, a bloom of P. reticulatum coincided with a summer shellfish mortality event, involving a dramatic surfacing of stressed, gaping Manila clams, suggesting that YTX could be the cause. YTX concentrations in their tissues were measured at a maximum of 0.28 mg/kg and histology of these clams demonstrated damage to digestive glands. A culture of P. reticulatum, isolated from North Bay during this massive bloom and shellfish mortality event, showed YTX reaching 26.6 pg/cell, the highest recorded toxin quota measured in the U.S. to date. Concentrations of YTX in phytoplankton samples reached a maximum of 920 ng/L during a P. reticulatum bloom in Mystery Bay on 13 August 2019 when cell abundance reached 1.82 million cells/L. The highest cellular YTX quota during that bloom that lasted into September was 10.8 pg/cell on 3 Sept 2019. Shellfish producers in Washington State have also noted shellfish larvae mortalities due to A. sanguinea passing through filtration intake systems into hatchery facilities. Early warning of shellfish-killing harmful algal bloom (HAB) presence in Puget Sound, through partnerships such as SoundToxins, provides options for shellfish growers to mitigate their effects through early harvest, movement of shellstock to upland facilities, or enhanced filtration at aquaculture facilities.

INTRODUCTION: The current study aims to elucidate the relationships of depression of caregivers with depression of hemodialysis patients and determine predictors of hospitalization of hemodialysis patients. METHODS: The single-center, cross-sectional study consisted of 200 pairs of eligible hemodialysis patients and caregivers from January 2019 to January 2020. Depression was evaluated using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. FINDINGS: There were 89 hemodialysis patients with depression (44.5%) and 74 caregivers with depression (37.0%). In multi-variable logistic regression analysis, the hemodialysis patients with depressed caregivers were at increased risk of depression after adjusting for potential confounders (OR = 2.36, p = 0.04). Depression of hemodialysis patients (ß = 0.51, p = 0.00) and depression of caregivers (ß = 0.36, p = 0.04) were predictors of hospitalization of hemodialysis patients. DISCUSSION: Depression was prevalent among hemodialysis patients and their caregivers. Depression of caregivers was a risk factor for depression and hospitalization of hemodialysis patients. Implementation of appropriate screening programs and specific interventions for depression of hemodialysis patients and their caregivers is required.

Heavy metals pollution in water is a global environmental issue, which has threatened the human health and environment. Thus, it is important to remove them under practical water environment. In recent years, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with water-stable properties have attracted wide interest with regard to the capture of hazardous heavy metal ions in water. In this review, the synthesis strategy and postsynthesis modification preparation methods are first summarized for water-stable MOFs (WMOFs), and then the recent advances on the adsorption and photocatalytic reduction of heavy metal ions in water by WMOFs are reviewed. In contrast to the conventional adsorption materials, WMOFs not only have excellent adsorption properties, but also lead to photocatalytic reduction of heavy metal ions. WMOFs have coupling and synergistic effects on the adsorption and photocatalysis of heavy metal ions in water, which make it more effective in treating single pollutants or different pollutants. In addition, by introducing appropriate functional groups into MOFs or synthesizing MOF-based composites, the stability and ability to remove heavy metal ions of MOFs can be effectively enhanced. Although WMOFs and WMOF-based composites have made great progress in removing heavy metal ions from water, they still face many problems and challenges, and their application potential needs to be further improved in future research. Finally, this review aims at promoting the development and practical application of heavy metal ions removal in water by WMOFs.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association of visceral fat area (VFA), waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist-height ratio (WHtR) with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in type 2 diabetic patients. METHODS: Included studies were searched from Pubmed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library before July 2020. We synthesized the pooled results of the above relationships by meta-analysis. RESULTS: Fourteen cross-sectional studies were enrolled. The pooled results indicated there was a significant difference in continuous VFA, WC and WHR/WHtR between patients with DKD and those without DKD (standard mean difference, SMD, 0.24, 95% confidence interval, CI, 0.13-0.36, p = 0.000). For VFA, patients with DKD had higher VFA levels than those without DKD (SMD 0.27, 95% CI 0.03-0.50). In the WC subgroup, patients with DKD had higher WC levels than those without DKD (SMD 0.17, 95% CI 0.10-0.24); similarly, abdominal obesity (dichotomized WC) was significantly associated with an increase in the odds of DKD (expected shortfall, ES, 1.57, 95% CI 1.32-1.86). However, the association of continuous WHR/WHtR with DKD was not statistically significant (SMD 0.43, 95% CI -0.12 to 0.97), while we found this relationship was statistically significant when analyzed categorically (ES 1.58, 95% CI 1.22-2.06). CONCLUSION: In this meta-analysis, we found abdominal obesity parameters (continuous VFA, WC) were associated with increased odds of DKD, and type 2 diabetic patients with DKD were more likely to have abdominal obesity (categorized using WC or WHR/WHtR).

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the status and long-term trends in dietary vitamin intakes from 1989 to 2015 in adults aged 18 to 35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) of China. METHODS: Based on the data of "China Health and Nutrition Surveys" from 1989 to 2015 and "cohort study on the changes of nutritional status of Chinese residents" in 2015, covering 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) in China. Adults aged 18 to 35 were selected as study subjects. Nonparametric statistical method was used to analyze the trend of dietary vitamin intake with years. Comparing the dietary vitamin intake with the dietary reference intakes, the trend of the proportion of people at risk of insufficient dietary vitamin intake was analyzed by Cochran Armitage trend test. According to the different demographic characteristics in 2015, the vitamin intake status and the proportion of people with insufficient dietary vitamin intake were analyzed. RESULTS: From 1989 to 2015, the overall dietary vitamin intake of adults aged 18-35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) of China showed a downward trend. The median vitamin intake of adults in 2015 were vitamin A 361. 28 µg RAE/d(based on vitamin A activity equivalent), vitamin B_1 0. 75 mg/d, vitamin B_2 0. 67 mg/d, nicotinic acid 13. 61 mg/d, vitamin C 56. 41 mg/d and vitamin E 21. 04 mg α-TE/d. In 2015, there were significant differences in dietary vitamin A, vitamin B_2, niacin and vitamin C intakes between the North and the South and the distribution of education level, in which the intakes of vitamin A, vitamin B_2, niacin and vitamin C in the South were significantly higher than those in the North; the intakes of dietary vitamin B_1 in the low education level group were significantly lower than those in the middle and high education level; the intakes of dietary vitamin B_1 in urban areas were significantly higher than those in the North. The intakes of vitamin A, vitamin B_2, niacin and vitamin E were significantly higher than those in rural areas. From 1989 to 2015, the proportion of people with insufficient intake of vitamin B_2 remained above 80%, and the proportion of adults with the risk of insufficient intake of dietary vitamin A, vitamin B_1 and vitamin C showed an increasing trend year by year. In 2015, the proportion of people at risk of insufficient intake of dietary vitamin A, vitamin B_2 and vitamin C in northern China was significantly higher than that in southern China. CONCLUSION: From 1989 to 2015, there was a risk of insufficient intake of micronutrients in adults aged 18-35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) in China, and the problem of insufficient calcium intake was serious.
