RESUMO

It has been more than one month since the first 2019-nCov infected person was diagnosed. However, the number of cumulative cases is keeping upward, including the severe cases and death cases. It has been proved that droplets transmission is the major route for 2019-nCov infection, and interpersonal contact could also cause the disease. Due to the fast-growing of Wuhan pneumonia and relative low cure rate, Chinese government is facing great challenges, and has taken emergency measures on disease prevention and clinical treatment, including population mobility control, building five or more hospitals for Wuhan pneumonia treatment, such as "Huo Shen Shan" hospital as well as developing a specific vaccine. In the meanwhile, the government shared the updated Genome Sequence of 2019-nCoV to the public, and scientists from China and oversea are working tightly and efficiently on public health emergency. Straw biochar and straw application to paddy soil dramatically altered arsenic (As) biogeochemical cycling in soil-rice system, but it remains unknown how As biotransformation microbes (ABMs) contribute to these processes. In this study, rice pot experiments combining terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) analysis and clone library were performed to characterize ABMs. Through linear discriminant analysis (LDA) effect size (LEfSe) and correlation analysis, results revealed that arrA-harbouring iron-reducing bacteria (e.g., Geobacter and Shewanella) and arsC-harbouring Gammaproteobacteria (e.g., fermentative hydrogen-producing and lignin-degrading microorganisms) potentially mediated arsenate [As(V)] reduction under biochar and straw amendments, respectively. Methanogens and sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) carrying arsM gene might regulate methylated As concentration in soil-rice system. Network analysis demonstrated that the association among ABMs in rhizosphere was significantly stronger than that in bulk soil. Arsenite [As(III)] methylators carrying arsM gene exhibited much stronger co-occurrence pattern with arsC-harbouring As(V) reducers than with arrA-harbouring As(V) reducers. This study would broaden our insights for the dramatic variation of As biogeochemical cycling in soil-rice system after straw biochar and straw amendments through the activities of ABMs, which could contribute to the safe rice production and high rice yield in As-contaminated fields.

BACKGROUND: In a multitude of previous studies, Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) plays an important role in the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy (EP). However, the predictive value of CT infections in the occurrence of EP has not been estimated worldwide. We thus evaluated, by means of a meta-analysis, the current status of the association between CT infections with EP and the potential predictive value of CT infections in EP. METHODS: We evaluated studies performed between the database construction time and August 2018 published in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and the Web of Science (SCI). The relationship between CT and EP was calculated based upon the predetermined entry criteria for control group selection and the original data. The related articles were analyzed using a random-effects model, and the heterogeneity of the studies was assessed using the I index. Data were analyzed with the STATA 12.0 software. RESULTS: Twenty-five studies that recruited 11960 patients were included in the present meta-analysis, and the relation of CT infections with EP were assessed. The association between CT infections and EP risk showed an odds ratio (OR) of 3.03, with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 2.37 to 3.89. Our results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups. The prevalence of CT infections in EP was then calculated by a subgroup analysis: African (OR, 2.22; 95% CI, 1.14-4.31), European (OR, 3.16; 95% CI, 2.10-4.47), North American (OR, 3.07; 95% CI, 1.78-5.31), and Asian (OR, 3.39; 95% CI, 1.95-5.90). CONCLUSIONS: From the results of numerous studies conducted on different continents, this meta-analysis showed a clear association between EP and prior CT infections, that is, CT infections increase the risk of EP occurrence.

The specific roles of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and how factors influenced EPS's roles during U(VI) immobilization are still unclear. In this study, high content of U with the main form of nanoparticles was detected in EPS, accounting for 10-42% of total U(VI) removal. EPS might be utilized as energy source or even as electron donors when external carbon source was unavailable. The influencing degree of each experimental parameter to uranium (U) removal process was elucidated. The influential priority to U(IV)/U(VI) ratios in sludge was as follows: acetate, U(VI), and nitrate. The influential priority to total EPS contents was as follows: U(VI), nitrate and acetate. The complex interaction mechanism between U(VI) and EPS in the U immobilization process was proposed, which might involve three ways including biosorption, bioreduction and bioprecipitation. These results indicate important and various roles of EPS in U(VI) immobilization.

The underlying hole-transfer mechanism in high-efficiency OSC bulk heterojunctions based on acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) remains unclear. Herein, we study the hole-transfer process between copolymer donor J91 and five A-D-A NFAs with different highest occupied molecular orbital energy offsets (ΔEH) (0.05-0.42 eV) via ultrafast optical spectroscopies. Transient absorption spectra reveal a rapid hole-transfer rate with small ΔEH, suggesting that a large energy offset is not required to overcome the exciton binding energy. Capacitance-frequency spectra and time-resolved photoluminescence spectra confirm the delocalization of an A-D-A-structured acceptor exciton with weak binding energy. Relative to the hole-transfer rate, hole-transfer efficiency is the key factor affecting device performance. We propose that holes primarily stem from weakly bound acceptor exciton dissociation, revealing a new insight into the hole-transfer process in A-D-A NFA-based OSCs.

Two new species of Araneus Clerck, 1757 are described: A. conexus sp. nov. (♂♀) and A. digitatus sp. nov. (♂♀) from Yunnan and Hubei provinces. The male of A. wulongensis Song & Zhu, 1992 is described here for the first time. All species treated in this study belong to A. strurmi species group. Detailed description and illustrations of somatic features, and copulatory organs as well as distribution maps are provided.

INTRODUCTION: Sepsis is a physiological, pathological, and biochemical syndrome caused by infection. Acupuncture may be useful for sepsis. This systematic review aims to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as a complementary therapy for sepsis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will search PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan Fang Database, Chinese Biomedicine (CBM) database, VIP database, and TCM Literature Analysis and Retrieval Database from inception to October 31, 2019 to identify any eligible study. We include all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) without any limitation of blinding or publication language, exclude cohort studies and case reports. Two reviewers will independently select studies, extract and manage data. The primary outcomes include the mortality at 28 days, acute physiology, and chronic health evaluation II scores. The secondary outcomes include the tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) counts, interleukin 6 (IL-6) counts, interleukin 10 (IL-10) counts, procalcitonin (PCT), lactic acid, the level of T cell subsets (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+), monocytes of human leukocyte antigen DR (HLA-DR), C-reactive protein (CRP), the numeration of leukocyte, intra-abdominal pressure, and adverse events or reactions. Statistical analyses will be performed using the Review Manager V.5.3 and R packages Metafor. We will use the Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized trials to assess the risk of bias of included studies. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This study will not involve personal information. Ethical approval will not be required. We will publish the results in a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42019141491.

Four new species of the genus Cicurina are described: C. daweishanensis spec. nov. (female), C. kekei spec. nov. (male and female), C. lichuanensis spec. nov. (male and female) and C. yuelushanensis spec. nov. (male and female). Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the locality map are provided. The type specimens of Cicurina eburnata Wang, 1994 were reexamined for the comparison of allied species. Photos of C. calyciforma Wang Xu, 1989 are also presented in order to compare it with two new species.

The wolf spider genus Artoria Thorell, 1877 is a common group in Australasia, currently including 41 species from Australia, three from New Zealand and four from Pacific islands (Framenau Baehr 2018; Word Spider Catalog 2019). This does not, however, comprise the whole distribution of the genus. The type species, A. parvula Thorell, 1877 has been recorded from China, Philippines, Indonesia (Sulawesi) and Australia (Northern Territory). An endemic species, A. ligulacea (Qu, Peng Yin, 2009) was described from Yunnan, China. This indicates that there must be some undescribed species from Southeast Asian countries. A recent collecting expedition to Malaysia confirms this hypothesis. Two species of Artoria were found, the type species, A. parvula from East and West Malaysia and a new species, A. weiwei sp. nov. from East Malaysia. In this study, we illustrate the former and describe for the first time the latter species.

Human ß-defensin 3 (HBD3) is an antimicrobial peptide up-regulated in the oral tissues of individuals with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) and oral squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and present in high concentrations in their saliva. In this study, we determined if HBD3 contributes to HNSCC pathogenesis by inducing programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on HNSCC cell lines. For this, SCC cell lines SCC4, SCC15, SCC19, SCC25, and SCC99 (5.0 × 104 viable cells) were used. Cells were incubated with IFNγ (0.6 µM) and HBD3 (0.2, 2.0, or 20.0 µM) for 24 h. Cells alone served as controls. Cells were then treated with anti-human APC-CD274 (PD-L1) and Live/Dead Fixable Green Dead Cell Stain. Cells treated with an isotype antibody and cells alone served as controls. All cell suspensions were analyzed in a LSR II Violet Flow Cytometer. Cytometric data was analyzed using FlowJo software. Treatment with IFNγ (0.6 µM) increased the number of cells expressing PD-L1 (p < 0.05) with respect to controls. Treatment with HBD3 (20.0 µM) also increased the number of cells expressing PD-L1 (p < 0.05) with respect to controls. However, treatment with IFNγ (0.6 µM) was not significantly different from treatment with HBD3 (20.0 µM) and the numbers of cells expressing PD-L1 were similar (p = 1). Thus, HBD3 increases the number of cells expressing PD-L1. This is a novel concept, but the role HBD3 contributes to HNSCC pathogenesis by inducing PD-L1 expression in tumors will have to be determined.

BACKGROUND: The single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of apurinic/apyrimidinicendonuclease 1 (APE1), which has been implicated in cancers and the DNA base excision repair (BER) process, have not been thoroughly investigated in association with the risks of oxidative stress-related vitiligo. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to investigate associations between APE1 single-nucleotide polymorphisms 141T >G and 1349T >G and risk and prognosis of vitiligo. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From June 2013 to June 2015, a total of 460 vitiligo patients were randomly recruited as a case group; 200 of these patients received narrow bound ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) treatment. Meanwhile, 460 healthy controls were included as a control group. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was performed to explore the distribution frequencies of genotypes. RESULTS: Significant differences were detected between the case group and the control group in the frequencies of the 141T >G and 1349T >G genotypes. At 141T >G, compared with patients carrying the TG + GG genotype, male patients carrying the TT genotype aged more than 20 years with active non-segmental vitiligo, without a family history of vitiligo or other autoimmune diseases, exhibited an increased risk of vitiligo. Binary logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the TT genotype at 141T >G and the non-TT genotype at 1349T >G were independent risk factors for vitiligo development. At 1349T >G, compared with patients carrying the TT genotype, male patients carrying the TG + GG genotype aged more than 20 years with active non-segmental vitiligo, without a family history of vitiligo or other autoimmune diseases, exhibited an increased risk of vitiligo. Moreover, patients carrying 141TG + GG or 1349 TT genotypes had better photochromic effects, lower cumulative radiation doses, shorter treatment times, and earlier first photochromic times.

Individual computational models of single myeloid, lymphoid, epithelial, and cancer cells were created and combined into multi-cell computational models and used to predict the collective chemokine, cytokine, and cellular biomarker profiles often seen in inflamed or cancerous tissues. Predicted chemokine and cytokine output profiles from multi-cell computational models of gingival epithelial keratinocytes (GE KER), dendritic cells (DC), and helper T lymphocytes (HTL) exposed to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or synthetic triacylated lipopeptide (Pam3CSK4) as well as multi-cell computational models of multiple myeloma (MM) and DC were validated using the observed chemokine and cytokine responses from the same cell type combinations grown in laboratory multi-cell cultures with accuracy. Predicted and observed chemokine and cytokine responses of GE KER + DC + HTL exposed to LPS and Pam3CSK4 matched 75% (15/20, p = 0.02069) and 80% (16/20, P = 0.005909), respectively. Multi-cell computational models became 'personalized' when cell line-specific genomic data were included into simulations, again validated with the same cell lines grown in laboratory multi-cell cultures. Here, predicted and observed chemokine and cytokine responses of MM cells lines MM.1S and U266B1 matched 75% (3/4) and MM.1S and U266B1 inhibition of DC marker expression in co-culture matched 100% (6/6). Multi-cell computational models have the potential to identify approaches altering the predicted disease-associated output profiles, particularly as high throughput screening tools for anti-inflammatory or immuno-oncology treatments of inflamed multi-cellular tissues and the tumor microenvironment.

BACKGROUND: Mechanical thrombectomy has been proven as a standard care for moderate to severe ischemic stroke with anterior large vessel occlusion (LVO); however, whether it is equally effective in mild ischemic stroke (MIS) is controversial. METHODS: In this retrospective study, a total of 177 Chinese patients presenting with MIS (NIHSS ≤8) and LVO between January 2014 and September 2017 from seven comprehensive stroke centers were identified. Odds of good outcome with endovascular thrombectomy versus medical treatment were obtained by logistic regression analysis and propensity-score matching method, and a meta-analysis pooled results from six studies (n = 733). RESULTS: Good outcome (mRS: 0-1) was 58.2% (46/79) in the thrombectomy and 46.9% (46/98) in the medical group, which showed no statistical significance before adjustment (P = 0.13; OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 0.86 to 2.86). The adjusted ORs of thrombectomy versus medical group were 3.23 (95% CI, 1.35 to 7.73; P = 0.008) by multivariable logistic analysis, 2.78 (1.12 to 6.89; P = 0.02) by propensity score matching analysis, and 3.20 (1.22 to 8.37; P = 0.01) by propensity score matching analysis with additional adjustments, respectively. Thrombectomy treatment did not result in excessive mortality or symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after adjustments. The meta-analysis did not confirm the associations between good outcome and endovascular treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The current study indicates that endovascular thrombectomy is associated with good functional outcome in MIS patients with LVO, and without additional risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and mortality. Although the meta-analysis failed to demonstrate its superiority compared to medical treatment, randomized clinical trials are needed.

The family Caponiidae Simon, 1890 is reported for the first time from China. The total number of the known spider families from China increases to 72 with the addition of this family newly recorded in the present paper. Based on male and female specimens collected from Guangxi, China, Laoponiasaetosa Platnick & Jäger, 2008 is illustrated and a global distribution map is generated.

Regulatory B cells (Bregs) have critical roles as a negative regulator of immunity, mainly due to the fact that it secrets high a level of interleukin 10 (IL-10). Recently, a new subset of Bregs was identified as a key source of IL-35, which is an immunosuppressive cytokine and conventionally thought to be secreted by regulatory T cells (Tregs). Our previous study showed that the level of IL-35 in serum was elevated in the patients with active tuberculosis (ATB). However, none of the studies reported that IL-35 is secreted by B cells in ATB patients. In the current study, we found that the mRNA expressions of the both subunits (p35 and Ebi3) of IL-35 by circulating B cells were increased in ATB patients. By using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining, we found a subset of B cells infiltrated into the tuberculous granuloma of ATB patients also expressed IL-35. Moreover, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) lysate stimulation assay also demonstrated higher levels of IL-35 were exerted by MTB lysate within purified B cells from healthy control group (HC). Flow cytometry analysis further showed that the IL-35-producing B cells from ATB patients produced a higher level of IL-10. Taken together, IL-35-producing B cells may play a regulatory role during MTB infection by producing IL-10.

OBJECTIVES: We compared the performance of two Food and Drug Administration-approved HER2 immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests: HercepTest (Dako) and PATHWAY anti-HER2 (4B5) (Ventana). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 180 invasive breast carcinomas previously tested by both HercepTest and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) were retested with 4B5. Three pathologists scored the HER2 IHC using the 2013 American Society of Clinical Oncology/College of American Pathologists guidelines. The HER2 IHC results were correlated with FISH. RESULTS: Among 135 equivocal cases by HercepTest, 100 (74.1%) were negative by 4B5. Among 45 positive HercepTest cases 9 (20%) were equivocal by 4B5. Among 135 equivocal HercepTest results, 100 (74.1%) were nonamplified, 18 (13.3%) equivocal, and 17 (12.6%) amplified by FISH. Among the 45 positive results with HercepTest, 2 (4.5%) were nonamplified and 1 (2.2%) was equivocal by FISH. All 37 positive and 3 negative by 4B5 cases were amplified by FISH. The absolute interobserver agreement was high for both tests (Fleiss kappa=0.838 for HercepTest and 0.771 for 4B5). CONCLUSIONS: PATHWAY anti-HER2 (4B5) significantly reduced the number of equivocal results that require additional testing. Although HercepTest was positive in a small number of HER2 nonamplified cases, 4B5 failed to detect 3 cases that were interpreted as positive by FISH, all with nonclassic or low levels of amplification.

BACKGROUND: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a rare, inherited form of ataxia that leads to progressive neurodegeneration. The initial symptoms could affect clinical phenotypes in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. However, the contribution of initial symptoms to the phenotypes of SCA3 has been scarcely investigated. METHODS: In the present study, 143 SCA3 patients from China were recruited and divided into two groups of gait-onset and non-gait-onset. For determining the influences of initial symptoms on age at onset (AAO), the severity and progression of ataxia, and the possible factors affecting the initial symptoms, multivariable linear regression, and multivariate logistic regression were performed. RESULTS: We found that the frequency of gait-onset was 87.41%, and the frequency of non-gait-onset was 12.59% (diplopia: 7.69%, dysarthria: 4.20%, dystonia: 0.70%). Compared to the non-gait-onset group, the gait-onset group had significantly more severe ataxia (p = 0.046), while the initial symptoms had no effect on AAO (p = 0.109) and progression of ataxia (p = 0.265). We failed to find the existence of any factors affecting initial symptoms. CONCLUSION: These findings collectively suggested that initial symptoms influenced phenotypes in SCA3 and that neurodegeneration in different parts of brain may induce different disease severity in SCA3.
