RESUMO

Knowing the normal values of left ventricular (LV) systolic synchronicity in the early neonatal period is very important for understanding myocardial function. This retrospective study analyzed data of 105 newborns who were examined using real-time 3-dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE). The time to the point of minimal regional systolic volume (Tmsv) was measured from volume-time curves in each segment. Standard deviation (SD) and maximal difference (Dif) of Tmsv were calculated from 16 (6 basal/6 mid/4 apical), 12 (6 basal/6 mid), and 6 (basal) LV segments with the corresponding parameters adjusted for the R-R interval. Influences of age, sex, gestational age, birth weight, and heart rate on parameters were explored. Data showed no significant difference among Tmsv-16-SD, Tmsv-12-SD, and Tmsv-6-SD. A strong correlation was found between Tmsv-6-SD and Tmsv-6-Dif (r = 0.83, P < 0.001), Tmsv-12-SD and Tmsv-6-SD (r = 0.77, P < 0.001), and Tmsv-12-Dif and Tmsv-6-Dif (r = 0.76, P < 0.001) and a moderate correlation was found between Tmsv-16-SD and Tmsv-16-Dif (r = 0.66, P < 0.001), Tmsv-6-SD and Tmsv-12-Dif (r = 0.62, P < 0.001), and Tmsv-12-SD and Tmsv-6-Dif (r = 0.61, P < 0.001). Heart rate correlated negatively with Tmsv (r = - 0.03 to - 0.11, P < 0.004-0.000), but had no effect on parameters adjusted for %R-R. Age, sex, gestational age, and birth weight did not affect any of these parameters. Tmsv-Dif and Tmsv-SD measured from 16 segments using RT3DE are useful as possible parameters for evaluating LV systolic synchronicity in normal newborns.

Despite the existence of many attempts at nerve tissue engineering, there is no ideal strategy to date for effectively treating defective peripheral nerve tissue. In the present study, well-aligned poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanofibers with varied nano-porous surface structures were designed within different ambient humidity levels using the stable jet electrospinning (SJES) technique. Nanofibers have the capacity to inhibit bacterial adhesion, especially with respect to Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). It was noteworthy to find that the large nano-porous fibers were less detrimentally affected by S. aureus than smaller fibers. Large nano-pores furthermore proved more conducive to the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs), while small nano-pores were more beneficial to NSC migration. Thus, this study concluded that well-aligned fibers with varied nano-porous surface structures could reduce bacterial colonization and enhance cellular responses, which could be used as promising material in tissue engineering, especially for neuro-regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Many studies have examined associations between dietary isoflavones and atherosclerosis, but few used objective biomarkers. OBJECTIVES: We examined the associations of isoflavone biomarkers (primary analyses) and equol production (secondary analyses) with the progression of carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), and whether inflammation, systolic blood pressure (SBP), blood lipids, and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) mediated these associations, in Chinese adults. METHODS: This 8.8-y prospective study included 2572 subjects (40-75 y old) from the GNHS (Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study; 2008-2019). The concentrations of daidzein, genistein, and equol were assayed by an HPLC-tandem MS in serum (n = 2572) at baseline and in urine (n = 2220) at 3-y intervals. The cIMT of the common carotid artery (CCA) and bifurcation segment were measured by B-mode ultrasound every 3 y, and the progressions of cIMT ( ∆cIMT) were estimated using the regression method. RESULTS: Multivariable linear mixed-effects models (LMEMs) and ANCOVA revealed that subjects with higher serum isoflavones tended to have lower increases of CCA-cIMT. The mean ± SEM differences in 8.8-y ∆CCA-cIMT between extreme tertiles of serum isoflavones were -17.1 ± 8.4, -20.6 ± 8.3, and -23.3 ± 10.4 µm for daidzein, total isoflavone, and equol (P-trends < 0.05), respectively. LMEMs showed that the estimated yearly changes (95% CIs) (µm/y) in CCA-IMT were -2.0 (-3.8, -0.3), -1.9 (-3.6, -0.1), and -2.1 (-3.8, -0.3) in the highest (compared with the lowest) tertile of daidzein, genistein, and total isoflavones, respectively (P-interaction < 0.05). Path analyses indicated that the serum equol-atherosclerosis association was mediated by increased SHBG and decreased SBP. Similar beneficial associations were observed in the secondary analyses. CONCLUSIONS: Serum isoflavones and equol exposure were associated with reduced cIMT progression, mediated by SHBG and SBP.

Primary hemangioma of the mediastinum is extremely rare. Herein, we present a unique case of hemangioma mimicking left atrial mass in the posterior mediastinum. We reviewed the literature and found 17 other hemangiomas in the posterior mediastinum. Herein, we summarize the age, gender, symptoms, diagnostic methods, image diagnosis, size, treatments, histologic features, outcomes, and follow-up of 17 cases. Most of the cases were asymptomatic and were accidentally detected in chest radiographs. Diagnostic methods mainly included chest X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All patients underwent surgical resection, recovered well, and had no recurrence during follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the interplay among dairy intake, gut microbiota and cardiometabolic health in human prospective cohort studies. METHODS: The present study included 1780 participants from the Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study. We examined the prospective association between habitual dairy consumption (total dairy, milk, yogurt) and gut microbial composition using linear regression after adjusting for socio-demographic, lifestyle and dietary factors. The cross-sectional association of dairy-associated microbial features with cardiometabolic risk factors was examined with a linear regression model, adjusting for potential confounders. Serum metabolomic profiles were analyzed by partial correlation analysis. FINDINGS: There was a significant overall difference in gut microbial community structure (ß-diversity) comparing the highest with the lowest category for each of total dairy, milk and yogurt (P < 0.05). We observed that dairy-associated microbes and α-diversity indices were inversely associated with blood triglycerides, while positively associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. A follow-up metabolomics analysis revealed the association of targeted serum metabolites with dairy-microbial features and cardiometabolic traits. Specifically, 2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid, 2-hydroxybutyric acid and L-alanine were inversely associated with dairy-microbial score, while positively associated with triglycerides (FDR-corrected P < 0.1). INTERPRETATION: Dairy consumption is associated with the gut microbial composition and a higher α-diversity, which provides new insights into the understanding of dairy-gut microbiota interactions and their relationship with cardiometabolic health. BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to explore specific factors that predispose to monozygotic twinning (MZT) at the blastocyst stage. METHODS: This was a retrospective observational study of a cohort of 2863 pregnancies after single blastocyst transfer (SBT) between January 2011 and June 2019 in our hospital. MZT pregnancy was identified as the number of fetuses exceeded the number of gestational sacs (GSs) by transvaginal ultrasound at 6-7 gestational weeks. The incidences of MZT regarding the maternal age at oocyte retrieval, paternal age, ovarian stimulation protocol, fertilization method, endometrium preparation protocol, vitrified day, and the Gardner grading of the blastocyst were calculated. The serum estrogen (E2), progesterone (P) levels, endometrium thickness and serum hCG levels on day 11 after embryo transfer (ET) were compared between the MZT and singleton pregnancies. Statistical analyses were used appropriately. RESULTS: Fifty-one MZT pregnancies (1.78%) were identified. The only significant differences observed between MZT and singleton pregnancies were the proportion of TE grade (P = 0.022) and the hCG levels on day 11 after ET (P = 0.003). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that trophectoderm (TE) grade was an independent factor affecting MZT, the adjusted odds ratios (aORs) of grade A and B TE were 5.46 [95% confidential interval (CI) 1.48-20.16, P = 0.011) and 3.96 (95% CI 1.17-13.40, P = 0.027) compared to grade C respectively. There were no significant associations between the parental age, fertilization method, ovarian stimulation protocol, endometrium preparation protocol, vitrified day, expansion stage, inner cell mass (ICM) grade and MZT. CONCLUSIONS: TE grade is associated with MZT at the blastocyst stage, potentially mediated via increased secretion of hCG from more well developed TE. Increased hCG secretion in turn may prolong the implantation window to support the embryo splitting.

BACKGROUND: Rheum tanguticum (Rh. tanguticum) is an important traditional Chinese medicine plant, "Dahuang", which contains productive metabolites and occupies wide habitats on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. Plants occupying wide habitats usually vary in phenotypes such as in morphology and metabolism, thereby developing into different ecotypes. Under canopy and open habitats are a pair of dissimilar habitats which possess Rh. tanguticum plants. However, few studies have focused on the effect of habitats on Rh. tanguticum growth, particularly combining morphological and metabolic changes. This study focused on Rh. tanguticum plants growing in under canopy and open habitats where morphology and metabolism changes were quantified using non-target metabolism methods. RESULTS: The obtained results indicated that the two dissimilar habitats led to Rh. tanguticum developing into two distinct ecotypes where the morphology and metabolism were simultaneously changed. Under canopy habitats bred morphologically smaller Rh. tanguticum plants which had a higher level of metabolites (22 out of 31) which included five flavonoids, four isoflavonoids, and three anthracenes. On the other hand, the open habitats produced morphologically larger Rh. tanguticum plants having a higher level of metabolites (9 out of 31) including four flavonoids. 6 of the 31 metabolites were predicted to have effect targets, include 4 represent for under canopy habitats and 2 for open habitats. Totally, 208 targets were connected, among which 42 were communal targets for both under canopy and open habitats represent compounds, and 100 and 66 were unique targets for under canopy superior compounds and open habitats superior compounds, respectively. In addition, aloe-emodin, emodin, chrysophanol, physcion, sennoside A and sennoside B were all more accumulated in under canopy habitats, and among which aloe-emodin, emodin, chrysophanol and physcion were significantly higher in under canopy habitats. CONCLUSIONS: This study determined that Rh. tanguticum growing in under canopy and in open habitats developed into two distinct ecotypes with morphological and metabolic differences. Results of network pharmacology study has indicated that "Dahuang" coming from different habitats, such as under canopy and open habitats, are different in effect targets and thus may have different medicinal use. According to target metabolomics, under canopy habitats may grow better "Dahuang".

Layered two-dimensional (2D) materials such as MoS2 have attracted much attention for nano- and opto-electronics. Recently, intercalation (e.g. of ions, atoms, or molecules) has emerged as an effective technique to reversibly modulate material properties of such layered 2D films. Here we probe both electrical and thermal properties of Li-intercalated bilayer MoS2 nanosheets by combined electrical measurements and Raman spectroscopy. We demonstrate reversible modulation of carrier density over more than two orders of magnitude (from 0.8×1012 cm 2 to 1.5×1014 cm-2), and we simultaneously obtain the thermal boundary conduct-ance (TBC) between the bilayer and its supporting SiO2 substrate for an intercalated system for the first time. This thermal coupling can be reversibly modulated by nearly a factor of eight, from 14 ± 4.0 MWm-2K-1 before intercalation to 1.8 ± 0.9 MWm 2K-1 when the MoS2 is fully lithiated. These results reveal electrochemical intercalation as a reversible tool to modulate and control both electrical and thermal properties of 2D layers.

The transmembrane protein 33 (TMEM33) was originally identified as an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein that influences the tubular structure of the ER and modulates intracellular calcium homeostasis. However, the role of TMEM33 in antiviral immunity in vertebrates has not been elucidated. In this article, we demonstrate that zebrafish TMEM33 is a negative regulator of virus-triggered interferon (IFN) induction via two mechanisms: mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS) ubiquitination and a decrease in the kinase activity of TANK binding kinase 1 (TBK1). Upon stimulation with viral components, tmem33 was remarkably upregulated in the zebrafish liver cell line. The IFNφ1 promoter (IFNφ1pro) activity and mRNA level induced by retinoic acid-inducible gene (RIG)-I-like receptors (RLRs) were significantly inhibited by TMEM33. Knockdown of TMEM33 increased host ifn transcription. Subsequently, we found that TMEM33 was colocalized in the ER and interacted with the RLR cascades, whereas MAVS was degraded by TMEM33 during the K48-linked ubiquitination. On the other hand, TMEM33 reduced the phosphorylation of mediator of IFN regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) activation (MITA)/IRF3 by acting as a decoy substrate of TBK1, which was also phosphorylated. A functional domain assay revealed that the N-terminal transmembrane domain 1 (TM1) and TM2 regions of TMEM33 were necessary for IFN suppression. Finally, TMEM33 significantly attenuated the host cellular antiviral capacity by blocking the IFN response. Taken together, our findings provide insight into the different mechanisms employed by TMEM33 in cellular IFN-mediated antiviral process.

Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) results in direct and indirect damage to neural tissues, which results in motor and sensory dysfunction, dystonia, and pathological reflex that ultimately lead to paraplegia or tetraplegia. A loss of cells, axon regeneration failure, and time-sensitive pathophysiology make tissue repair difficult. Despite various medical developments, there are currently no effective regenerative treatments. Stem cell therapy is a promising treatment for SCI due to its multiple targets and reactivity benefits. The present review focuses on SCI stem cell therapy, including bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, umbilical mesenchymal stem cells, adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells, neural stem cells, neural progenitor cells, embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, and extracellular vesicles. Each cell type targets certain features of SCI pathology and shows therapeutic effects via cell replacement, nutritional support, scaffolds, and immunomodulation mechanisms. However, many preclinical studies and a growing number of clinical trials found that single-cell treatments had only limited benefits for SCI. SCI damage is multifaceted, and there is a growing consensus that a combined treatment is needed.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the impact of baseline posterior circulation Acute Stroke Prognosis Early Computed Tomography Score (pc-ASPECTS) on the efficacy and safety of endovascular therapy (EVT) for patients with acute basilar artery occlusion. METHODS: The BASILAR was a nationwide prospective registry of consecutive patients with a symptomatic and radiologically confirmed acute basilar artery occlusion within 24 hours of symptom onset. We estimated the effect of standard medical therapy alone (SMT group) versus SMT plus EVT (EVT group) for patients with documented pc-ASPECTS on noncontrast CT, both as a categorical (0-4 versus 5-7 versus 8-10) and as a continuous variable. The primary outcomes included favorable functional outcomes (modified Rankin Scale ≤3) at 90 days and mortality within 90 days. RESULTS: In total, 823 cases were included: 468 with pc-ASPECTS 8 to 10 (SMT: 71; EVT: 397), 317 with pc-ASPECTS 5 to 7 (SMT: 85; EVT: 232), and 38 with pc-ASPECTS 0 to 4 (SMT: 13; EVT: 25). EVT was associated with higher rate of favorable outcomes (adjusted relative risk with 95% CI, 4.35 [1.30-14.48] and 3.20 [1.68-6.09]; respectively) and lower mortality (60.8% versus 77.6%, P=0.005 and 35.0% versus 66.2%, P<0.001; respectively) than SMT in the pc-ASPECTS 5 to 7 and 8 to 10 subgroups. Continuous benefit curves also showed the superior efficacy and safety of EVT over SMT in patients with pc-ASPECTS ≥5. Furthermore, the prognostic effect of onset to puncture time on favorable outcome with EVT was not significant after adjustment for pc-ASPECTS (adjusted odds ratio, 0.98 [95% CI, 0.94-1.02]). CONCLUSIONS: Patients of basilar artery occlusion with pc-ASPECTS ≥5 could benefit from EVT. INTRODUCTION: Mild traumatic brain injury (mild TBI) exhibited abnormal brain network topologies associated with cognitive dysfunction. However, it was still unclear which aspects of network organization were critical underlying the key pathology of mild TBI. Here, a multi-imaging strategy was applied to capture dynamic topological features of both structural and functional connectivity networks (SCN and FCN), to provide more sensitive detection of altered FCN from its anatomical backbone and identify novel biomarkers of mild TBI outcomes. METHODS: 62 mild TBI patients (30 subjects as an original sample with 3-12 months follow-up, 32 subjects as independent replicated sample), and 37 healthy controls were recruited. Both diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting-state fMRI were used to create global connectivity matrices in the same individuals. Global and regional network analyses were applied to identify group differences and correlations with clinical assessments. RESULTS: Most global network properties were conserved in both SCNs and FCNs in subacute mild TBI, whereas SCNs presented decreased global efficiency and characteristic path length at follow-up. Specifically, some hubs in healthy brain networks typically became non-hubs in patients and vice versa, such as the medial prefrontal cortex, superior temporal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus. The relationship between structural and functional connectivity (SC and FC) in patients also showed salient decoupling as a function of time, primarily located in the hubs. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggested mild TBI influences the relationship between SCN and FCN, and the SC-FC coupling strength may be used as a potential biomarker to predict long-term outcomes after injury.

There is a lack of predictive models to determine the prognosis of elderly patients diagnosed with stage I small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). The purpose of this study was to establish a useful nomogram to predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) in this patient population. Based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry database, patients aged ≥ 65 years with pathological American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage I SCLC from 2004 to 2014 were identified. The CSS was evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Patients were randomly split into training and validation sets. In the training cohort, univariate analysis and multivariate analysis using the Cox regression identified risk factors that affected CSS. The results were utilized to construct a nomogram for the prediction of the 1-, 3-, and 5-year CSS rates of elderly patients with stage I SCLC. The effectiveness of the nomogram was validated internally and externally by the bootstrap method. The clinical practicability and accuracy of the nomogram were evaluated by the concordance index (C-index), calibration curve, receiver operating characteristic curve, and decision curve analysis. In total, we extracted 1,623 elderly patients with stage I SCLC. The median CSS was 34 months, and the 5-year CSS was 41%. Multivariate analysis revealed that histologic type, tumor size, age, and AJCC stage were significant predictors of CSS. A nomogram was constructed according to the results of multivariate Cox analysis. The C-indices of the nomogram for training and validation sets were 0.68 and 0.62, indicating that the nomogram demonstrated a favorable level of discrimination. The calibration curves exhibited satisfactory agreement between the actual observation and nomogram prediction. The net benefit of the nomogram was better than the AJCC TNM staging. We constructed a practical nomogram to predict the CSS of elderly patients with stage I SCLC. The predictive tool is helpful for patients counseling and treatment decision-making.

Resistive switching (RS), an electric property based on the forming and rupture of conductive filaments in metal-insulator-metal structures, has attracted intensive attention due to its potential application in next generation energy-efficient and area-efficient memory devices. In situ studies of the RS effect are urgently needed for its mechanism understanding and memristive performance improvement. Here investigations of both the RS effect as well as the gate tunable conductance quantization effect are realized by co-designing an Ag/SiO2 based memory structure on a graphene local sensor. This design enables self-monitoring of the working states of the memristor in real-time by virtue of the graphene sensor. These findings pave the way for further investigations of on-chip electronics and quantum physics.

OBJECTIVE: Previous studies have reported inverse associations between certain healthy lifestyle factors and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but limited evidence showed the synergistic effect of those lifestyles. This study examined the relationship of a combination of lifestyles, expressed as Healthy Lifestyle Score (HLS), with NAFLD. DESIGN: A community-based cross-sectional study. Questionnaires and body assessments were used to collect data on the six-item HLS (ranging from 0 to 6, where higher scores indicate better health). The HLS consists of non-smoking (no active or passive smoking), normal BMI (18·5-23·9 kg/m2), physical activity (moderate or vigorous physical activity ≥ 150 min/week), healthy diet pattern, good sleep (no insomnia or <6 months) and no anxiety (Self-rating Anxiety Scale < 50), one point each. NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasonography. SETTING: Guangzhou, China. PARTICIPANTS: Two thousand nine hundred and eighty-one participants aged 40-75 years. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of NAFLD was 50·8 %. After adjusting for potential covariates, HLS was associated with lower presence of NAFLD. The OR of NAFLD for subjects with higher HLS (3, 4, 5-6 v. 0-1 points) were 0·68 (95 % CI 0·51, 0·91), 0·58 (95 % CI 0·43, 0·78) and 0·35 (95 % CI 0·25, 0·51), respectively (P-values < 0·05). Among the six items, BMI and physical activity were the strongest contributors. Sensitivity analyses showed that the association was more significant after weighting the HLS. The beneficial association remained after excluding any one of the six components or replacing BMI with waist circumference. CONCLUSIONS: Higher HLS was associated with lower presence of NAFLD, suggesting that a healthy lifestyle pattern might be beneficial to liver health.

Volatile organic compound (VOCs) emission is an important cause of photochemical smog and particulate pollution in urban areas, and urban vegetation has been presented as an important source. Different tree species have different emission levels, so adjusting greening species collocation is an effective way to control biogenic VOC pollution. However, there is a lack of measurements of tree species emission in subtropical metropolises, and the factors influencing the species-specific differences need to be further clarified. This study applied an in situ method to investigate the isoprene emission rates of 10 typical tree species in subtropical metropolises. Photosynthesis and related parameters including photosynthetic rate, intercellular CO2 concentration, stomatal conductance, and transpiration rate, which can influence the emission rate of a single species, were also measured. Results showed Salix babylonica always exhibited a high emission level, whereas Elaeocarpus decipiens and Ligustrum lucidum maintained a low level throughout the year. Differences in photosynthetic rate and stomatal CO2 conductance are the key parameters related to isoprene emission among different plants. Through the establishment of emission inventory and determination of key photosynthetic parameters, the results provide a reference for the selection of urban greening species, as well as seasonal pollution control, and help to alleviate VOC pollution caused by urban forests.

This case study demonstrates the feasibility of pacing the left bundle branch and atrial septum under transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) without fluoroscopic guidance. This technique could be useful to guide pacemaker implantation in some patients, especially pregnant women.

Curcumin has a therapeutic effect on ulcerative colitis, but the underlying mechanism has yet to be elucidated. The aim of the present study was to clarify the possible mechanisms. Dextran sulfate sodium­induced colitis mice were treated with curcumin via gavage for 7 days. The effects of curcumin on disease activity index (DAI) and pathological changes of colonic tissue in mice were determined. Interleukin (IL)­6, IL­10, IL­17 and IL­23 expression levels were measured by ELISA. Flow cytometry was used to detect the ratio of mouse spleen regulatory T cells (Treg)/Th17 cells, and western blotting was used to measure the nuclear protein hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)­1α level. The results demonstrated that curcumin can significantly reduce DAI and spleen index scores and improve mucosal inflammation. Curcumin could also regulate the re­equilibration of Treg/Th17. IL­10 level in the colon was significantly increased, while inflammatory cytokines IL­6, IL­17 and IL­23 were significantly reduced following curcumin treatment. No significant difference in HIF­1α was observed between the colitis and the curcumin group. It was concluded that oral administration of curcumin can effectively treat experimental colitis by regulating the re­equilibration of Treg/Th17 and that the regulatory mechanism may be closely related to the IL­23/Th17 pathway. The results of the present study provided molecular insight into the mechanism by which curcumin treats ulcerative colitis.

Humic acid (HA) removal research focuses on the global water treatment industry. In this work, efficient HA degradation with an ultra-high synergetic intensity is achieved by combined bubble discharge with activated carbon (AC). Adding AC to the discharge greatly improves HA removal efficiency and degradation speed; the synergetic intensity reaches 651.52% in the combined system, and the adsorption residual on AC is 4.52%. After 90 min of treatment, the HA removal efficiency reaches 98.90%, 31.29%, and 7.61% in the plasma-AC combined, solo bubble discharge, and solo AC adsorption systems, respectively. During the plasma process, the number of pore structures and active sites and the amount of oxygen-containing functional groups on the AC surface increase, resulting in a higher adsorption capacity to reactive species (H2O2 and O3) and HA and promoting interactions on the AC surface. For HA mineralization, the presence of AC greatly promotes the destruction of aromatic structures and chromophoric HA functional groups.

The persulfate activation by nanosecond pulsed gas-liquid discharge (NPG-LD) is employed to degrade the trimethoprim (TMP) in water. The results show that persulfate addition enhances the degradation of TMP by NPG-LD through an obvious synergetic effect. With treatment time of 50 min, the high removal efficiency and energy yield reach 94.6% and 0.57 gkWh-1 in air NPG-LD with the addition of persulfate, respectively, which is 13.5% and 0.09 gkWh-1 higher than that in solo air NPG-LD, respectively. Correspondingly, the calculated synergetic factor achieves 1.62, indicating the synergetic effect is established. The activation mechanism of persulfate by NPG-LD is analyzed by the measurement of reactive species and the effects of radical scavenger addition on TMP removal. It is found that the synergetic effect between NPG-LD and persulfate is attributed to the increased production of OH, H2O2, and . Besides, the TMP degradation by NPG-LD and persulfate synergetic system is influenced by discharge working gas, pulse voltage, addition dosage of persulfate, initial TMP concentration, and initial pH value. Subsequently, the degradation pathway of TMP is analyzed using LC-MS/MS.
