RESUMO

Zhigancao decoction recorded in Treatise on Febrile Disease by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han dynasty have been widely used in treating palpitation and irregular pulse by traditional Chinese medicine physicians for thousands of years. It is all known that Zhigancao Decoction is used to treat consumptive disease. However, why it has been used to treat exogenous febrile disease? According to studies,Fumai Decoctions in Treatise on Differentiation and Treatment of Epidemic Febrile Disease, that was modified based on Zhigancao Decoction, have their names without reality. Serious defects, including unclear diagnosis, curative effect, and prognosis, have been found in ancient and modern medical records about Zhigancao Decoction. The indications of Zhigancao Decoction include atrial premature beats, ventricular premature beats, and viral myocarditis; tachyarrhythmia( supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation)with long interval or conduction block, during or after severe infection or high fever; chronic consumptive disease due to tumor after radiotherapy and chemotherapy, malignant fluid state of tumor, hematopathy, terminal stage of heart failure after major operation, and acute hemorrhage after control of severe infection and other major diseases; cough, phlegm and asthma due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary interstitial fibrosis, lung cancer, after lung cancer surgery; increased heart rate and decreased blood pressure due to insufficient capacity after acute blood loss; the symptoms included palpitation, chest tightness, sweating, lassitude, lacking in strength, shortness of breath, syncope, sudden death, cough, expectoration, excessive phlegm, clear and dilute sputum, emaciation, dry and haggard skin, constipation, haemorrhagic, uterine bleeding, enjoy sweet taste, red tongue without moss, knotted pulse, intermittent pulse, thready rapid pulse, and weak pulse. Besides,Zhigancao Decoction has effect on cardioversion and maintenance of sinus rhythm without thrombosis in persistent atrial fibrillation and permanent atrial fibrillation. Zhigancao Decoction could stop bleeding soon for acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and achieve positivity of occult blood test; Zhigancao Decoction could promote thrombocytopenia for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, with the number of platelets 1×109/L. Zhigancao Decoction could promote the rise of granulocytic, erythroid and megakaryocytic hematopoietic lines in unexplained severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukocyte reduction. Zhigancao Decoction could treat cough, asthma, and chest tightness in lung cancer and after lung cancer surgery; chronic consumptive disease due to lung cancer after lung cancer surgery, hematopathy and acute blood loss, which all belonged to the scope of consumptive disease. Zhigancao Decoction could ascend platelets, which was considered as " oriental interleukins" for the ancients. Zhigancao Decoction possesses dual-directional regulation on anticoagulant and hemostasis, which was considered as " oriental low molecular heparin" and " oriental proton pump inhibitors". Large dose of Rehmannia glutinosa is the key of the efficacy of Zhigancao Decoction. This study is expected to enrich the guidelines for modern medical diagnosis and treatment. However, the clinical evidence, relevant genes and targeting network need to be deepened in future studies. In conclusion,it may be a shortcut to restore and explain Zhigancao Decoction formula syndromes based on modern pathophysiology and severe cases of critical care.

RESUMO

Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction recorded in Treatise on Febrile Diseases by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han Dynasty could be used to clear heat, invigorate Qi,and promote fluid production. The indications of Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction include infectious diseases, such as lung infection, influenza, encephalitis, enteric typhoid and hospital infection; thermoplegia; acute cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, severe hyperosmolarity, hypernatremia, intractable hypotension, shock and other internal diseases; sweating, irritation, thirst, want to drink several liters of water, dry mouth, dry tongue, and big pulse. This prescription has been widely used to treat acute and severe cases in the cardiovascular intensive care ward. The prescription can be used to treat exogenous and internal injury diseases, which are characterized by excessive heat, fluid injury, thirst for water, dry mouth, dry tongue and other symptoms; refractory hypotension and hypovolemic shock that need large dose of supplemental fluid to maintain blood pressure and may also belong to the extension of the Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction formula syndrome; severe hyperosmolarity and hypernatremia needing nasal feeding with large quantities of sterile water or cool boiled water that may also belong to the extension of the Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction formula syndrome; the four major symptoms, namely severe heat, excessive perspiration, great thirst, and large-bounding pulse, are actually the indications of Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction, rather than Baihu Decoction. Severe irritability should also be added into the indications of Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction; severe heat refers to pathogenesis, rather than a symptom.

RESUMO

Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction recorded in Treatise on Febrile Diseases by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han Dynasty have been widely used in treating Yang deficiency and exogenous wind-cold syndrome by traditional Chinese medicine physicians for thousands of years. The indications of Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction include bradyarrhythmia, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus node syndrome, senile exogenous, asthmatic cold, rhinitis, bronchial asthma, optic neuritis, optic atrophy, sudden blindness, sudden onset of cough, laryngeal obstruction, migraine, joint pain, low back pain, insomnia, shock, heart failure, renal failure, accompanied by fever or nosocomial infection, and hyperpyrexia after tracheotomy; dark complexion, chills, cold limbs, listlessness, fatigue, insomnia, lack of thirst, liking hot drinks, slightly swollen limbs or whole body, pale fat tongue, greasy fur,and deep pulse. Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction is a potential drug for Shaoyin disease complicated with fever and pain. Tracheal intubation is an artificial ephedrine syndrome. It is necessary to distinguish Yin and Yang syndrome in treating hyperpyrexia after tracheotomy. However,it belongs to Yin syndrome, which could be treated by Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction. Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction is effective in the treatment of sick sinus syndrome, second degree atrioventricular block and third degree atrioventricular block. It can significantly alleviate symptoms, improve heart rate, and heart rhythm in a short period of time. However, after one year of drug withdrawal, the diseases may recur, indicating that Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction may not improve the long-term prognosis of slow arrhythmia. Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction is often used for fever or nosocomial infection in critical care medicine. In the treatment of critical care medicine complicated with high fever,Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Decoction is often taken continuously by stomach tube.

RESUMO

Chaige Jieji Decoction recorded in Six Books of Exogenous Febrile Disease could be used to treat exterior syndrome due to wind-cold and heat caused by stagnation. The indications of Chaige Jieji Decoction include acute exogenous febrile diseases, such as influenza, upper respiratory tract infection, nosocomial infection; symptoms and signs, such as headache, eye pain, orbital pain, dizziness; fever, cold and hot exchanges; dry mouth, thirst, cold drinks, bitter mouth, dry throat; dry nose, stuffy nose, runny nose; poor appetite, silent appetite; strong neck, stiff back; insomnia, difficulty in sleeping; cough and sputum; abdominal pain, limb twitching;slightly torrent pulse. Disease involving all three Yang channels is very common in acute exogenous febrile diseases; the pathogenesis of exogenous diseases is quite different between cases in South China and North China. Most of the exogenous diseases in North China involves all three Yang channels. Disease involving all three Yang channels is the core of the pathogenesis of Chaige Jieji Decoction syndrome,in which headache is the key indications. Chaige Jieji Decoction can not only treat exogenous diseases, but also treat nosocomial infections in critically ill patients during hospitalization. Although Chaige Jieji Decoction,Xiaochaihu-Maxing Shigan Decoction, and Xiaochaihu-Daqinglong Decoction could be used to treat disease involving all three Yang channels, there are differences in indicators among them.

RESUMO

Cream formula has been mostly used to treat deficiency syndrome. Currently,it has been used to recuperate the body, promote health against aging, and prevent and treat chronic disease. In modern medicine, there are only treatment concepts and methods of diseases, but lack of concepts of " deficiency syndrome" and " restoring deficiency". The concepts of " deficiency syndrome" and " restoring deficiency" could effectively supplement and improve the diagnosis and treatment scheme of some modern diseases. Refractory heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, ischemic cardiomyopathy, and valvular heart disease belong to the traditional category of " consumptive disease". The cream formula with the efficacy of restoring deficiency can not only alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life, but also improve the structure and function of the heart, reduce the dosage of diuretics and the number of hospitalizations, and achieve the purpose of secondary prevention in the treatment of severe heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, ischemic cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease. The cream formula for treating chronic heart failure include Shenqi Pills,Zhenwu Decoction,Yougui Pills,Wuling Powder,Linggui Zhugan Decoction,Danggui Shaoyao Powder,Lizhong Decoction,Buzhong Yiqi Decoction,Guipi Decoction,Yupingfeng Powder,Guizhi Decoction. Long-term administration of cream formula could not only resist aging, but also play an irreplaceable role in the secondary prevention of acute and critical diseases.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: As the early stage of coronary heart disease (CHD), borderline coronary lesion (BCL) is defined as a 30%-70% diameter stenosis. Previous studies have demonstrated that BCL may progress to acute coronary syndrome easily. However, routine medications available for the treatments of BCL have some limitations. Xuanbi antong granule (XAG) has been used for the treatment of BCL in China for many years. Previous studies have shown that XAG has effectiveness in improving clinical symptoms and quality of life in patients with CHD. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of XAG in patients with BCL. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a multicentre, randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial. A total of 300 participants will be randomly assigned to the intervention group and the placebo group. Based on routine medications, the intervention group will be treated with XAG and the placebo group will be treated with XAG placebo. All participants will receive a 6-month treatment and then be followed-up for another 6 months. The primary outcomes are the changes of target plaque characteristics (including target plaque volume, degree of stenosis, CT value and calcification score) measured by dual source CT angiography. The secondary outcomes include blood lipid indicators, efficacy of angina symptoms, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and occurrence of major adverse cardiac events. All the data will be recorded in electronic case report forms and analysed by SPSS V.20.0. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This study has been approved by Research Ethics Committee of Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing, China (No. 2017-083-KY-01). Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. The results of this study will be disseminated to the public through academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR-IOR-17013189; Pre-results.

RESUMO

Fangji Dihuang Decoction and Fengyin Decoction, which were firstly recorded in Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, could be used to treat stroke. However, both of these two decoctions are used infrequently. There is a clear pathogenesis of modern pathophysiology behind Fangji Dihuang Decoction syndrome and Fengyin Decoction syndrome, which can be interpreted by modern language of science. Fangji Dihuang Decoction can nourish Yin, tonify kidney, extinguish the wind, and dredge collaterals. It could be used to treat mania caused by cerebral infarction, senile dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other cerebrovascular diseases, and opened up the precedent of nourishing Yin and expelling wind to treat stroke in later generations. Fengyin Decoction can clear heat, extinguish the wind, and calm the mind. It can be used to treat cerebral infarction, limb paralysis and epileptic seizures with heat syndrome. It may be equivalent to "oriental olanzapine", and opened up the precedent of smoothing liver and suppressing Yang to treat stroke in later generations. They can be used in the combination, with a high application value in treating stroke and mental diseases.

RESUMO

Mufangji Decoction is a famous herbal formula from Synopsis of Golden Chamber. However,it is easy to be misunderstood due to so its unique compatability. The syndromes treated by Mufangji Decoction included the following aspects:(1) in terms of modern medicine,it could be used to treat acute and chronic heart failure, heart failure aggravated by lung infection, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease acute episode, pulmonary heart disease, bilateral pleural effusion, acute attack of gout, rheumatic fever, rheumatoid arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis;(2) in terms of symptoms,it could be used to treat asthma, chest tightness, wheeze impacting prostration and dyspnea impacting sitting posture; gastric distention; dark face, cyanotic, and mitral valvular face; edema of head and extremities; dry mouth, thirsty, unwilling to wear thick clothes, intolerance of heat, and irritable; fatigue, shortness of breath, poor appetite, constipation, less urine, yellow color, poor response to diuretics, and diuretic resistance; fast heart rate, which is hard to be controlled by Western medicine and has no response to Zhenwu Decoction; dark red tongue, dry tongue with yellow fur, rapid pulse,or deep tight pulse. In emergency and severe cases,Yang deficiency and fluid retention are normal syndromes of heart failure, while Yang deficiency, fluid retention, and heat are metamorphic syndromes of heart failure, which possessed complex mechanisms of pathophysiology; the mechanisms of Shaoyin heat-conversion syndrome is similar to Yang deficiency, fluid retention, and heat syndrome; the reason of application of gypsum in Mufangji Decoction shall be further studied; the " empty" and " real" in modified Mufangji Decoction are physical signs, rather than pathogenesis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of blood-letting therapy (BLT) in treatment of hypertension. METHODS: A comprehensive electronic and manual bibliographic searches were performed in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Excerpt Medica Database (EMBASE), PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Wanfang Database to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which hypertensive patients were treated with BLT or BLT plus antihypertensive drugs (BPAD) against placebo, no treatment or antihypertensive drugs. The Cochrane Risk Assessment Tool was used to assess the methodological quality of trials. The Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 7 RCTs with 637 hypertensive patients from 1989 to 2017 were identified. Compared with antihypertensive drugs, blood pressure was significantly reduced by BLT (RR=1.21, 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.44, P=0.03; heterogeneity: P=0.06, I2=60%) and BPAD (RR=1.25, 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.53, P=0.03; heterogeneity: P= 0.01, I2=71%). Moreover, a significant improvement in Chinese medicine syndrome by BLT (RR=1.32; 95% CI: 1.14 to 1.53, P=0.0002; heterogeneity: P=0.53, I2=0%) and BPAD (RR=1.47; 95% CI: 1.06 to 2.04, P=0.02; heterogeneity: P=0.13, I2=56%) was identified. The reported adverse effects were well tolerated. CONCLUSION: Although some positive findings were identified, no definite conclusions regarding the efficacy and safety of BLT as complementary and alternative approach for treatment of hypertension could be drew due to the generally poor methodological design, significant heterogeneity, and insufficient clinical data. Further rigorously designed trials are warranted to confirm the results.

RESUMO

Treatise on Febrile Diseases is one of the greatest classics in traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, so many key scientific problems including unclear connotation of the original, dosage of Chinese herbal medicine, and the essence of the six meridians were identified. On the basis of years of clinical experience in critical care medicine, it was advocated that the connotation of Treatise on Febrile Diseases should be explored from the perspective of critical care medicine and integrative medicine. It was identified that, the traditional study from the perspective of pathogenesis and textual research couldn't meet the current clinical needs due to its repeated deduction and circular argument in conceptual terms and unclear diagnosis and prognosis of modern diseases. The concept of exogenous febrile disease is the narrow sense, the essence of which may be acute febrile infectious diseases. Treatise on Febrile Diseases is a monographs for critical care medicine. The clinical manifestation of so many critical care medicine can be identified in Treatise on Febrile Diseases. The distinction standard of Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber is not external injury but contagious disease. The dosage problem in Treatise on Febrile Diseases mainly refers to large dose. The essence of six meridians in Treatise on Febrile Diseases is severe infection. Six meridians are different stages of severe infection, including the inflammation-based three Yang stages and deficiency-based three Yin stages. Additionally, the six meridians could be recognized by look, while not speculation. The struggle between cold and warm schools could be unified based on our research. The most direct and fundamental methods in studying Treatise on Febrile Diseases lies in critical care medicine and integrative medicine. The modern research of Treatise on Febrile Diseases is intensely calling for new treatment principle based on pathogenesis combined with pathology and property combined with pharmacology. Therefore, cultivation of ability in critical care medicine and integrative medicine should be emphasized in future studies.

RESUMO

Chinese classical formulas, firstly recorded in Shanghan Zabing Lun by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han dynasty, have been widely used by traditional Chinese medicine physicians for thousands of years due to its good compatibility, strict structures, significant clinical efficacy and less adverse effects. Ephedra associated prescriptions, widely used in the treatment of skin diseases, are famous representative prescriptions in Chinese classical formulas. The commonly used Ephedra associated prescriptions include Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou decoction, Maxing Shigan decoction, Maxing Yigan decoction, Mahuang decoction, Mahuang Jiazhu decoction, Guizhi Mahuang Geban decoction, and Guizhi Eryue Biyi decoction. Skin allergy is an allergic reaction, manifested as erythema, papules, and itching. It has been identified that Guizhi Mahuang Geban decoction (1/2 Guizhi decoction + 1/2 Mahuang decoction) is effective in dispersing wind and cold, relieving exterior syndrome and dredging the collaterals, so it can be used to treat skin allergy caused by pathogenic wind-cold. Guizhi Eryue Biyi decoction (1/4 Guizhi decoction + 1/8 Yuebi decoction) is effective in dispersing wind and cold, relieving exterior syndrome and clearing heat, so it is mainly used for the syndrome of wind-cold tightening superficies and heat transformed from wind-cold. Additionally, Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou decoction can relieve exterior syndrome, clear heat and remove dampness, mainly for the dampness and heat depression in the muscle surface. It is found that Guizhi Mahuang Geban decoction and Guizhi Eryue Biyi decoction have certain efficacy for skin allergies, while Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou decoction has significant efficacy for urticaria, acute and chronic eczema, etc. It has been identified that if the conditions of Ephedra associated prescriptions are well mastered by traditional Chinese medicine physicians, they could be widely applied to treat exogenous diseases and miscellaneous diseases.

RESUMO

Background: The traditional Chinese medicine classic herbal formula Longdanxiegan decoction (LDXGD) is widely used for hypertensive patients in China. Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LDXGD for hypertension. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Database were searched up to February 7, 2017 for randomized control trials in treating hypertension. Results: Nine trials were identified. Compared with antihypertensive drugs, Longdanxiegan decoction plus antihypertensive drugs (LPAD) significantly improved systolic blood pressure (BP) (n = 138; MD = -4.82 mmHg; 95% CI: -7.89 to -1.76; P = 0.002), diastolic BP (n = 138; MD = -2.42 mmHg; 95% CI: -3.22 to -1.62; P < 0.00001), categorical BP (n = 509; RR: 1.26; 95% CI: 1.17 to 1.36; P < 0.00001), hypertension related symptoms (n = 509; RR: 1.31; 95% CI: 1.15 to 1.49; P < 0.0001), and heart rate (n = 138; MD = -2.40 bpm; 95% CI: -4.23 to -0.56; P = 0.01). Beneficial effects but no statistically significant reduction in total cholesterol (n = 138; MD = -0.11 mmol/l; 95% CI: -0.65 to 0.44; P = 0.71), or triglyceride (n = 138; MD = -0.20 mmol/l; 95% CI: -0.46 to 0.07; P = 0.14) was observed in LPAD. Compared with antihypertensive drugs, LDXGD used alone significantly improved systolic BP, diastolic BP, and hypertension related symptoms. But there was no difference between LDXGD and antihypertensive drugs on categorical BP (n = 120; RR: 1.09; 95% CI: 0.96 to 1.23; P = 0.18). The safety of LDXGD were still unclear. Conclusions: Due to poor methodological quality of the included trials, as well as potential reporting bias, our review found no conclusive evidence for the effectiveness of LDXGD in treating hypertension. The potential beneficial effects and safety of LDXGD should be assessed in future properly designed trials.

RESUMO

Clinical manifestations of mitochondrial genetic disease and mitochondria related disor- ders have involved many aspects of Chinese medical syndromes. Combination of disease and syndrome based studies on mitochondrial disease related Chinese medical syndromes are quite less. Authors be- lieved mitochondrial diseases were mainly manifested as qi deficiency, involving related symptoms of five zang-organs, blood and qi, meridian disease by analyzing their clinical manifestations from the angle of Chinese medicine, and exploring their distribution laws.

RESUMO

Recent studies demonstrated that mitochondria play an important role in the cardiovascular system and mutations of mitochondrial DNA affect coronary artery disease, resulting in hypertension, atherosclerosis, and cardiomyopathy. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years to treat cardiovascular disease, but it is not yet clear how TCM affects mitochondrial function. By reviewing the interactions between the cardiovascular system, mitochondrial DNA, and TCM, we show that cardiovascular disease is negatively affected by mutations in mitochondrial DNA and that TCM can be used to treat cardiovascular disease by regulating the structure and function of mitochondria via increases in mitochondrial electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation, modulation of mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis, and decreases in mitochondrial ROS. However further research is still required to identify the mechanism by which TCM affects CVD and modifies mitochondrial DNA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Songling Xuemaikang Capsule (, SXC) for the treatment of primary hypertension. METHODS: An extensive search including Cochrane Library, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), KoreaMed, Japanese database, and online clinical trial registry websites was performed up to February 2013. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding SXC for the treatment of primary hypertension were searched without no language restrictions. The quality of each trial was assessed according to the Cochrane Reviewers' Handbook 5.0, and RevMan 5.0 provided by the Cochrane Collaboration. RESULT: A total of 17 RCTs involving 1,778 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference between SXC and antihypertensive agents on systolic blood pressure [mean difference (MD): -0.10 [-4.83, 4.63]; P=0.97] and diastolic blood pressure (MD: 1.00 [-1.16, 3.16]; P=0.36), but SXC combined with antihypertensive drugs was more effective in lowering systolic blood pressure (MD: -6.17 [-7.86, -4.49]; P<0.00001) and diastolic blood pressure (MD: -7.24 [-8.62, -5.85]; P<0.00001) compared with the antihypertensive drugs alone. CONCLUSIONS: SXC used alone or combined with antihypertensive drugs appear to be an effective treatment for lowering elevated blood pressure and improving symptoms in patients with primary hypertension. However, the conclusion cannot be drawn definitely due to the poor quality of the included studies. There is still an urgent need for well-designed, long-term studies to address the benefits of SXC for treating primary hypertension.

RESUMO

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Moreover, angina pectoris is one of the most important types of CHD. Therefore, prevention and effective treatment of angina pectoris is of utmost importance in both China and western countries. However, undesirable effects of antianginal therapy do influence treatment adherence to a certain extent. Therefore, it's not surprising that, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), including Chinese medicine (CM), are widely welcomed among patients with CHD, hoping that it might complement western medicine. In our previous studies, blood stasis syndrome (BSS) (Xueyu Zheng) was the main syndrome (Zheng-hou) of angina pectoris. Currently, China Food and Drug Administration authoritatively recommended more than 200 Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) as complementary or adjunctive therapies for symptom management and enhancing quality of life along with mainstream care on angina pectoris management in mainland China. This paper reviewed 4 kinds of most frequently-used CPMs by promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis in the treatment of angina pectoris. It aims to evaluate the current evidence of CPMs in combination therapy for angina pectoris. This review indicated that CPMs as adjunctive treatment to routine antianginal therapy play an active role in reducing the incidence of primary endpoint events, decreasing anginal attack rate, and improving electrocardiogram. Additionally, CPMs have been proven relatively safe. Further rigorously designed clinical trials should be conducted to confirm the results.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs (miRNA) plays an important role in biological development and disease occurrence and development, and acts as a "main switch" in biology. Among patients of essential hypertension, around 1/3 would suffer left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Hence, essential hypertension becomes an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. And miRNAs plays an important role in the occurrence and development of LVH. This paper reviewed the role of miRNA in regulating the stress signaling pathway, defined its impact on the occurrence of LVH, and further emphasized the opportunities and challenges of miRNA as a biomarker and therapeutic target.

RESUMO

Essential hypertension is one of the most prevalent and important public health concerns in both westernized and developing countries. Recent studies have demonstrated that successful long-term treatment of hypertension has a significant impact on morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and stroke. Chinese classical formulas, which are important components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), have been increasingly accepted by patients with CVDs worldwide. According to TCM theory and syndrome differentiation, hypertension could be categorized into 3 patterns including fire syndrome, fluid retention syndrome, and deficiency syndrome. Chinese classical formulas, including Chaihu Jia Longgu Muli tang, Tianma Gouteng yin, Zhen Gan Xifeng tang, Banxia Baizhu Tianma tang, Liu Wei Dihuang wan, etc, play an important role in the treatment of essential hypertension, which could be further research priorities.

RESUMO

Hypertension is a significant medical and public health issue which puts an enormous burden on health care resources and the community. It is a chronic medical condition in which the systemic arterial blood pressure (BP) is elevated. Serious complications including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases would be preventable if the rise in BP with age could be prevented or diminished. The majority of hypertensive patients require long-term treatment. Oral antihypertensive drugs, lifestyle modification including exercise and dietary modification are milestones for hypertension therapy. However, the control rate of hypertension hasn't reached the expected requirements currently. "Three lows" status quo, just low awareness, low treatment, and low control, are still the major problems confronting modern medicine. Recently, uncontrolled factors of blood pressure are widely concerned, which include insomnia, constipation, mood disorders, exogenous, etc. What's more, the control strategies of hypertension should not only pay close attention to "patient's high blood pressure", but also to "hypertensive patient". Therefore, the treatment of uncontrolled factors of blood pressure plays an important role in hypertensive therapy, which could be further research priorities.
