BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have shown that the short-term efficacy of three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopic radical gastrectomy (LG) is comparable to that of two-dimensional (2D)-LG. Whether 3D-LG affects the recurrence patterns of gastric cancer (GC) patients has not been investigated. METHODS: From January 2015 to April 2016, a total of 419 patients were recruited for a phase III clinical trial (NCT02327481), which compared the short-term outcomes between the 2D and 3D groups. The long-term efficacy including recurrence patterns was compared between the 2D and 3D groups in this retrospective study. Multivariate analyses were performed to determine whether 3D-LG affects the recurrence patterns. RESULTS: Ultimately, 401 patients were analyzed (197 in the 2D-LG group and 204 in the 3D-LG group), and no differences were observed in the clinicopathological data between the two groups. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the recurrence types, first recurrence time or recurrence-free survival (RFS) (all p > 0.05). According to the 7th American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system, both groups were stratified into pathological stages I, II, and III. The stratified analysis showed no significant differences in RFS or overall survival (OS) among patients in each subgroup (all p > 0.05). The multivariate analysis of RFS showed that tumor diameter, pTNM stage, lymphovascular invasion, and adjuvant chemotherapy were independent factors (all p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis of post-recurrence survival (PRS) showed that adjuvant chemotherapy was an independent protective factor (p = 0.043). CONCLUSIONS: 3D-LG for GC did not differ significantly from 2D-LG in the effects on 3-year recurrence patterns, RFS and OS, which provides more tumor-related evidence for 3D technology. And due to the technological similarity, it may have certain reference value for robotic-assisted gastrectomy. Further multicenter, large-scale clinical trials are warranted.

AIM: To detect how BRCA-associated protein 1 (BAP1) regulates cell migration in uveal melanoma (UM) cells. METHODS: Wound healing and transwell assays were performed to detect UM cell migration abilities. Protein chip, immunoprecipitations and surface plasmon resonance analyses were applied to identify BAP1 protein partners. Western blot and calpain activity assays were used to test the expression and function of calpastatin (CAST). RESULTS: CAST protein was confirmed as a new BAP1 protein partner, and loss of BAP1 reduced the expression and function of CAST in UM cells. The overexpression of CAST rescued the cell migration phenotype caused by BAP1 loss. CONCLUSION: BAP1 interacts with CAST in UM cells, and CAST and its subsequent calpain pathway may mediate BAP1-related cell migration regulation.

BACKGROUND: Examined lymph node counts of remnant gastric cancer patients are often insufficient, and the prognostic ability of tumor-node-metastasis staging is therefore limited. This study aimed to create a simple and universally applicable prediction model for RGC patients after completion of gastrectomy. METHODS: A 5-year overall survival prediction model for remnant gastric cancer patients was developed using a test dataset of 148 consecutive patients. Model coefficients were obtained based on the Cox analysis of clinicopathological factors. Prognostic performance was assessed with the concordance index (C-index) and decision curve analysis. For internal validation, the bootstrap method and calibration assessment were used. The model was validated using 2 external cohorts from China (First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, n = 46) and the United States (Mayo Clinic, n = 20). RESULTS: Depth of tumor invasion, number of metastatic lymph nodes, distant metastasis, and operative time were independent prognostic factors. Our model's C-index (0.761) showed better discriminatory power than that of the eighth tumor-node-metastasis staging system (0.714, P = .001). The model calibration was accurate at predicting 5-year survival. Decision curve analysis showed that the model had a greater benefit, and the results were also confirmed by bootstrap internal validation. In external validation, the C-index and decision curve analysis showed good prognostic performances in patient datasets from 2 participating institutions. Moreover, we verified the reliability of the model in an analysis of patients with different examined lymph node counts (>15 or ≤15). CONCLUSION: Utilizing clinically practical information, we developed a universally applicable prediction model for accurately determining the 5-year overall survival of remnant gastric cancer patients after completion of gastrectomy. Our predictive model outperformed tumor-node-metastasis staging in diverse international datasets regardless of examined lymph node counts.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of plasma high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in traumatic fracture patients. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study in 1 054 traumatic fracture patients admitted between April 2012 and December 2014. 188 cases were divided into DVT and others (n=866) into control group based on ultrasound results. The relationship between HDL-C and DVT was determined by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: Compared with control group, patients in DVT group had significantly lower HDL-C level, and low level of plasma HDL-C was associated with the occurrence of DVT. Deceased HDL-C, inceased age, inceased immobilization, inceasd anticoagulant-free days, fracture sites, and blood transfusion were risk factors for the occurrence of DVT in traumatic fracture patients. Patients with surgery had significantly lower level of HDL-C in both groups compared with patients without surgery respectively. CONCLUSION: Low level of plasma HDL-C was independently associated with the occurrence of DVT in traumatic fracture patients.

BACKGROUND: The definition and predictors of early recurrence (ER) for gastric cancer (GC) patients after radical gastrectomy are unclear. METHODS: A minimum-p value approach was used to evaluate the optimal cutoff value of recurrence-free survival to determine ER and late recurrence (LR). Receiver operating characteristic curves were generated for inflammatory indices. Potential risk factors for ER were assessed with a Cox regression model. A decision curve analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical utility. RESULTS: A total of 401 patients recruited in a clinical trial (NCT02327481) from January 2015 to April 2016 were included in this study. The optimal length of recurrence-free survival to distinguish between ER (n = 44) and LR (n = 52) was 12 months. Factors associated with ER included a preoperative C-reactive protein-albumin ratio (CAR) ≥ 0.131, stage III and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (PAC) > 3 cycles. The risk model consisting of both the CAR and TNM stage had a higher predictive ability and better clinical utility than TNM stage alone. Further stratification analysis of the stage III patients found that for the patients with a CAR < 0.131, both PAC with 1-3 cycles (p = 0.029) and > 3 cycles (p < 0.001) could reduce the risk of ER. However, for patients with a CAR ≥ 0.131, a benefit was observed only if they received PAC > 3 cycles (54.2% vs 16.0%, p = 0.004), rather than 1-3 cycles (58.3% vs 54.2%, p = 0.824). CONCLUSIONS: A recurrence-free interval of 12 months was found to be the optimal threshold for differentiating between ER and LR. Preoperative CAR was a promising predictor of ER and PAC response. PAC with 1-3 cycles may not exert a protective effect against ER for stage III GC patients with CAR ≥ 0.131.

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a severe complication associated with high morbidity and mortality after radical gastrectomy (RG) for gastric cancer (GC). We hypothesized that a novel abdominal negative pressure lavage-drainage system (ANPLDS) can effectively reduce the failure-to-rescue (FTR) and the risk of reoperation, and it is a feasible management for AL. AIM: To report our institution's experience with a novel ANPLDS for AL after RG for GC. METHODS: The study enrolled 4173 patients who underwent R0 resection for GC at our institution between June 2009 and December 2016. ANPLDS was routinely used for patients with AL after January 2014. Characterization of patients who underwent R0 resection was compared between different study periods. AL rates and postoperative outcome among patients with AL were compared before and after the ANPLDS therapy. We used multivariate analyses to evaluate clinicopathological and perioperative factors for associations with AL and FTR after AL. RESULTS: AL occurred in 83 (83/4173, 2%) patients, leading to 7 deaths. The mean time of occurrence of AL was 5.6 days. The AL rate was similar before (2009-2013, period 1) and after (2014-2016, period 2) the implementation of the ANPLDS therapy (1.7% vs 2.3%, P = 0.121). Age and malnourishment were independently associated with AL. The FTR rate and abdominal bleeding rate after AL occurred were respectively 8.4% and 9.6% for the entire period; however, compared with period 1, this significantly decreased during period 2 (16.2% vs 2.2%, P = 0.041; 18.9% vs 2.2%, P = 0.020, respectively). Moreover, the reoperation rate was also reduced in period 2, although this result was not statistically significant (13.5% vs 2.2%, P = 0.084). Additionally, only ANPLDS therapy was an independent protective factor for FTR after AL (P = 0.04). CONCLUSION: Our experience demonstrates that ANPLDS is a feasible management for AL after RG for GC.

BACKGROUND: Serum prealbumin (PALB) can predict the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer (GC). However, the prognostic value of combination of C-reactive protein and PALB (CRP/PALB) remains unclear. METHODS: A total of 419 gastric cancer patients included in a clinical trial (NCT02327481) were analyzed. The present study is a substudy of the trial. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated, and by calculating the areas under the curve (AUC) and the C-index, the discriminative ability of each inflammatory index was compared, including CRP/PALB, C-reactive protein/albumin, Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), modified GPS, systemic immune-inflammation index, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet-lymphocyte ratio. RESULTS: Ultimately, 401 patients were included in this study. The optimal cutoff value of CRP/PALB was 17.7. According to this cutoff point, the entire sample was divided into a CRP/PALB < 17.7 (LCP) group and a CRP/PALB ≥ 17.7 (HCP) group, comprising 245 and 156 patients, respectively. There were 54 and 22 patients experienced recurrence in the HCP and LCP group, respectively, p < 0.001. Compared with traditional inflammatory indices, CRP/PALB had the highest AUC (0.707) and C-index (0.716), all p < 0.05. The post-recurrence survival (PRS) of patients in the HCP group was significantly shorter than that in the LCP group (p = 0.010), especially for pathological stage III patients (p = 0.015) or patients with distant (p = 0.018) or local (p = 0.023) recurrences. CONCLUSIONS: The predictive value of preoperative CRP/PALB for the recurrence of GC is significantly better than traditional inflammatory indices. HCP significantly reduces the PRS, especially for pathological stage III patients or patients with distant or local recurrences.

BACKGROUND: To determine whether laparoscopic surgery can be used in high-risk patients with gastric cancer. METHODS: The clinicopathological data of 3743 patients with primary gastric adenocarcinoma, collected from January 2007 to December 2014, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients who had ≥ 1 of the following conditions were defined as high-risk patients: (1) age ≥ 80 years; (2) BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2; (3) ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) grade ≥ 3; or (4) clinical T stage 4 (cT4). Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to reduce confounding bias; then, we compared the short-term and long-term efficacy of laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) with open gastrectomy (OG) in high-risk patients with gastric cancer. RESULTS: A total of 1296 patients were included in PSM. After PSM, no significant difference in clinicopathological data was observed between the LG group (n = 341) and the OG group (n = 341). The operative time (181.70 vs. 266.71 min, p < 0.001) and blood loss during the operation (68.11 vs. 225.54 ml, p < 0.001) in the LG group were significantly lower than those in the OG group. In the LG and OG groups, postoperative complications occurred in 39 (11.4%) and 63 (18.5%) patients, respectively, p = 0.010. Multivariate analysis showed that laparoscopic surgery was an independent protective factor against postoperative complications (p = 0.019). The number of risk factors was an independent risk factor for postoperative complications (p = 0.021). The 5-year overall survival rate in the LG group was comparable to that in the OG group (55.0 vs. 52.0%, p = 0.086). Hierarchical analysis further confirmed that the LG and OG groups exhibited comparable survival rates among patients with stages cI, pI, cII, pII, cIII, and pIII (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: For high-risk patients with gastric cancer, LG not only exhibits better short-term efficacy than OG but also has a comparable 5-year survival rate to OG.

PURPOSE: Early application of protease inhibitors through the intestinal lumen could increase survival following experimental shock by blocking the pancreatic digestive enzymes. Hence, it was hypothesized that two-route injection (intraintestinal + intravenous) of ulinastatin (UTI), a broad-spectrum protease inhibitor, could better alleviate intestinal injury than single-route injection (either intravenous or intraintestinal). METHODS: A sepsis model induced by lipopolysaccharide on rats was established. The rats were randomly divided into five groups: sham, sepsis, UTI intravenous injection (Uiv), UTI intraintestinal injection (Uii), and UTI intraintestinal + intravenous injection (Uii + Uiv) groups. The mucosal barrier function, enzyme-blocking effect, levels of systemic inflammatory cytokines, and 5-day survival rate were compared among groups. The small intestinal villus height (VH), crypt depth (CD), and two components of mucosal barrier (E-cadherin and mucin-2) were measured to evaluate the mucosal barrier function. The levels of trypsin and neutrophil elastase (NE) in the intestine, serum, and vital organs were measured to determine the enzyme-blocking effect. RESULTS: Compared with the single-route injection group (Uiv or Uii), the two-route injection (Uii + Uiv) group displayed: (1) significantly higher levels of VH, VH/CD, E-cadherin, and mucin-2; (2) decreased trypsin and NE levels in intestine, plasma, and vital organs; (3) reduced systemic inflammatory cytokine levels; and (4) improved survival of septic rats. CONCLUSION: Two-route UTI injection was superior to single-route injection in terms of alleviating intestinal injury, which might be explained by extensive blockade of proteases through different ways.

BACKGROUND: To discuss the effect and mechanism of adenovirus-mediated OX40Ig gene transfer in inducing long-term survival of liver allografts in rats. METHODS: Orthotopic liver transplantation was performed from Lewis to Brown Norway (BN) rats through the modified two-cuffed technique, and all rats were randomly divided equally into four groups: control, AdEGFP, AdOX40Ig, and FK506. The survival times of the rats were recorded. The rats' liver function, serum cytokines, hepatocyte pathology, OX40Ig protein level, and mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) with or without recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) were evaluated. RESULTS: Compared with the control and AdEGFP groups, the rats in the AdOX40Ig and FK506 groups survived longer (P < 0.05), experienced less damage to hepatic function (P < 0.05), and showed milder hepatic cellular rejection and less hepatic cellular apoptosis. Interferon (IFN)-γ and IL-2 content in the serum were lower after operation (P < .05) in the AdOX40Ig and FK506 groups. On the contrary, IL-4 and IL-10 content in the serum was higher after operation (P < 0.05) in the AdOX40Ig and FK506 groups. OX40Ig protein was significantly expressed in the AdOX40Ig group and reached the highest level on the 7th day after operation. With respect to the MLR between BN and Lewis rats, the AdOX40Ig group showed a lighter reaction for the same strain than the control and AdEGFP groups (P < 0.05), which is different from the MLR between BN and F344 rats. After adding rIL-2 to the MLR system between BN rats in the AdOX40Ig group and Lewis rats, MLR was aggravated. CONCLUSION: Through OX40/OX4OL pathways, OX40Ig created an immunosuppressive effect after liver transplantation in rats. This immunosuppressive effect is associated with reduced IL-2 and can be reversed by adding IL-2 with antigen specificity.

We have reported, for the first time, in situ growth of high-index {hk0} faceted concave Pt nanocubes on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via an electrochemical method in choline chloride-urea (ChCl-U) based deep eutectic solvents (DESs). Mechanistic studies indicate that a urea hydrogen bond donor (HBD) plays a key role in the formation of concave Pt nanocubes, in which the urea HBD preferentially adsorbs onto the {100} faces and blocks the growth of nanocrystals along the 〈100〉 axis. The as-prepared concave Pt nanocubes are characterized to be enclosed mainly with high-index {710}, {610} and {510} facets. It has been determined that the concave cubic Pt/CNT exhibits higher catalytic activity and stability than the flower-like Pt/CNT and commercial Pt/C catalysts, and this is ascribed to its high density of surface atomic steps and the synergistic effect between the CNT and Pt nanocubes.

Biomimetic mineralization can lead to advanced crystalline composites with common chemicals under ambient conditions. An exceptional example is biomimetic nacre with its superior fracture toughness. The synthesis of the prismatic layer with stiffness and wear resistance nonetheless remains an elusive goal. Herein, we apply a biomimetic mineralization method to grow prismatic-type CaCO3 thin films, mimicking their biogenic counterparts found in mollusk shells with a three-step pathway: coating a polymer substrate, deposition of a granular transition layer, and mineralization of a prismatic overlayer. The synthetic prismatic overlayers exhibit structural similarity and comparable hardness and Young's modulus to their biogenic counterparts. Furthermore, employment of a biomacromolecular soluble additive, silk fibroin, in fabrication of the prismatic thin films leads to micro-/nano-textures with enhanced toughness and emerging under-water superoleophobicity. This study highlights the crucial role of the granular transition layer in promoting competition growth of the prismatic layer.

BACKGROUND: Imbalance in bone remodeling causes osteoporosis. PURPOSE: In the present study, we identified that protocatechuic acid inhibits osteoclast differentiation and induces apoptosis in RAW264.7 murine macrophage cells. METHODS: Tartrate-resistance acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity was used to determine osteoclast formation. Oxidative stress was analyzed through ROS, lipid peroxide and antioxidant enzyme activities. Osteoclast and inflammatory marker expressions were determined through western blot. Apoptosis induction was determined through membrane potential analysis, Cyt c release and caspase activation. RESULTS: Protocatechuic acid dose dependently reduced RANKL-induced tartrate-resistance acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity and multinucleated osteoclasts formation. Protocatechuic acid inhibited oxidative stress by reducing ROS and lipid peroxide levels with concomitant increase in antioxidant status. Osteoclast specific marker expression (MMP, c-Src, TRAP, TRAF-6, Cathepsin) and transcription factor AP-1 and NFATc1 expression were significantly down regulated by protocatechuic acid. Further, MAPK activation and inflammatory proteins such as NF-kB and COX-2 expressions were significantly down regulated by protocatechuic acid treatment. Further, protocatechuic acid enhanced Nrf-2 translocation into the nucleus. In mature osteoclasts, protocatechuic acid induced apoptosis by inducing mitochondrial membrane potential, cytochrome c release and caspase activation. INTERPRETATION: The present findings shows evidence that, protocatechuic acid prevents osteoclast differentiation through regulating oxidative stress, inflammation and inducing apoptosis in RAW264.7 murine macrophage cells.

AIM: To assess the use of dezocine combined with propofol for the anesthetization of patients undergoing indolent colonoscopy. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of patients undergoing indolent colonoscopy in the Xinjiang People's Hospital was conducted from April 1 to April 30, 2015. The survey collected patient general information and anesthesia data, including overall medical experience and pain management. Thirty minutes after colonoscopy surgery, samples of venous blood were collected and the biochemical indicators of gastrointestinal function were analyzed. RESULTS: There were 98 female and 62 male respondents. Indolent colonoscopy was found to be more suitable for mid to older-aged patients. The necessary conditions for the diagnosis of digestive diseases were required in 65 of the 73 inpatients. Adverse reactions to the intraoperative process included two cases of body movement and two cases of respiratory depression. Gastrin and vasoactive intestinal peptide levels were slightly increased. However, somatostatin and endothelin levels were slightly decreased. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that dezocine combined with propofol can be successfully used for the anesthetization of indolent colonoscopy patients without pain and should be widely used.

Concave nanocubes are enclosed by high-index facets and have negative curvature; they are expected to have enhanced reactivity, as compared to nanocubes with flat surfaces. Herein, we propose and demonstrate a new strategy for the synthesis of concave Pt nanocubes with {hk0} high-index facets, by using a hydrogen adsorption-mediated electrochemical square-wave potential method. It was found that Pt atoms prefer to deposit on edge sites rather than terrace sites on Pt surfaces with intensive hydrogen adsorption, resulting in the formation of concave structures. The as-prepared concave Pt nanocubes exhibit enhanced catalytic activity and stability towards oxidation of ethanol and formic acid in acidic solutions, compared to commercial Pt/C catalysts.

AIM: To define the benefits of three-dimensional video-assisted thoracoscopic esophagectomy (3D-VATE) over 2D-VATE for esophageal cancer. METHODS: A total of 93 patients with esophageal cancer including 45 patients receiving 3D-VATE and 48 receiving 2D-VATE were evaluated. Data related to patient and cancer characteristics, operating time, intraoperative bleeding, morbidity and mortality, postoperative inflammatory markers, Numerical Rating Scale for postoperative pain, Constant-Murley rating system for shoulder recovery and oxygenation index (OI) were collected. All medical records were retrieved from a prospectively maintained oncological database at our institution. A retrospective study was performed to compare the short-term surgical outcomes between the two groups. RESULTS: No significant differences were found between the two groups in either morbidity or mortality (P = 0.328). An enhanced surgical recovery was noted in the 3D group as indicated by shortened thoracoscopic operation time (3D vs 2D: 68 ± 13.79 min vs 83 ± 13 min, P < 0.01), minor intraoperative blood loss (3D vs 2D: 68.2 ± 10.7 mL vs 89.8 ± 10.4 mL, P < 0.01), earlier chest tube removal (3D vs 2D: 2.67 ± 1.01 vs 3.75 ± 1.15 d, P < 0.01), shorter length of hospital stay (3D vs 2D: 9.07 ± 2.00 vs 10.85 ± 3.40 d, P < 0.01), lower in-hospital expenses (3D vs 2D: 74968.4 ± 9637.8 vs 86211.1 ± 8519.7 RMB, P < 0.01), lower pain intensity (P < 0.01) and faster recovery of the left shoulder function (P < 0.01). Better preservation of the pulmonary function was also found in the 3D group as the decline of the OI post operation was significantly lower than that of the 2D group (P < 0.01). Changes of postoperative inflammatory markers, including procalcitonin [postoperative days (PODs) 4 and 7: P < 0.01], peripheral granulocytes (PODs 1, 4 and 7: P < 0.01) and hypersensitive C-reactive protein (POD 4: P < 0.01) in 3D-VATE patients were less than those in the 2D group. Moreover, utilization of the 3D technique extended the dissection of the thoracic lymph nodes (P < 0.01), with better exposure of nodes in the left recurrent laryngeal nerve (P = 0.031). CONCLUSION: 3D-VATE could be a more viable technique over 2D-VATE in terms of short-term outcomes for patients with esophageal cancer.

A series of xLi1.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2.5·(1 - x)Li0.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) cathode materials have been synthesized. These compounds exhibit dramatic differences in structure, morphology and charge/discharge characteristics. As the x increases, the morphology shows an amazing trend: starting with an octahedral shape (x = 0), transforming to an octahedral/plate shape (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.9) in which both the spinel phase and the layered phase can be indexed in the XRD patterns, and ending up with a plate shape (x = 1.0). The particular layered-spinel composites xLi1.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2.5·(1 - x)Li0.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.9) exhibit better cycling stability than that of pristine spinel Li0.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 (x = 0) and layered Li1.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2.5 (x = 1.0) materials. This improved cycling performance of these layered-spinel composites can be ascribed to the heterogeneous intergrowth of some layered phases and spinel phases in the parent structure as detected by TEM. Among these materials, Li0.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 and Li1.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2.5 barely deliver the specific capacities of 90 mA h g(-1) and 117 mA h g(-1) at 5 C and show the capacity retentions of about 83% and 86% at 0.2 C after 50 cycles, respectively, while the layered-spinel 0.8Li1.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2.5·0.2Li0.5Ni0.25Mn0.75O2 cathode shows the best rate capability of 162 mA h g(-1) at 5 C and the best cycling stability of 98% after 50 cycles at 0.2 C.

RESUMO

The first example of palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling between benzyl sulfonates and arylboronic acids was reported in this paper. In the presence of a well-defined, air-stable and easily available NHC-Pd(II)-Im complex, all reactions worked well to give the desired products in good to almost quantitative yields under the optimal conditions. Electron-rich, -neutral, -poor and sterically-hindered substituents on both substrates are tolerated in such transformation, providing a convenient, efficient and alternative method for the synthesis of diarylmethanes.

As-formed protein single nanowires show excellent optical properties (fine waveguiding performance and bio-applicable transmission windows), and are utilized as evanescent optical nanobiosensors for label-free biotin detection.
