BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have shown that the short-term efficacy of three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopic radical gastrectomy (LG) is comparable to that of two-dimensional (2D)-LG. Whether 3D-LG affects the recurrence patterns of gastric cancer (GC) patients has not been investigated. METHODS: From January 2015 to April 2016, a total of 419 patients were recruited for a phase III clinical trial (NCT02327481), which compared the short-term outcomes between the 2D and 3D groups. The long-term efficacy including recurrence patterns was compared between the 2D and 3D groups in this retrospective study. Multivariate analyses were performed to determine whether 3D-LG affects the recurrence patterns. RESULTS: Ultimately, 401 patients were analyzed (197 in the 2D-LG group and 204 in the 3D-LG group), and no differences were observed in the clinicopathological data between the two groups. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the recurrence types, first recurrence time or recurrence-free survival (RFS) (all p > 0.05). According to the 7th American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system, both groups were stratified into pathological stages I, II, and III. The stratified analysis showed no significant differences in RFS or overall survival (OS) among patients in each subgroup (all p > 0.05). The multivariate analysis of RFS showed that tumor diameter, pTNM stage, lymphovascular invasion, and adjuvant chemotherapy were independent factors (all p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis of post-recurrence survival (PRS) showed that adjuvant chemotherapy was an independent protective factor (p = 0.043). CONCLUSIONS: 3D-LG for GC did not differ significantly from 2D-LG in the effects on 3-year recurrence patterns, RFS and OS, which provides more tumor-related evidence for 3D technology. And due to the technological similarity, it may have certain reference value for robotic-assisted gastrectomy. Further multicenter, large-scale clinical trials are warranted.

Neonatal mammalian heart maintains a transient regeneration capacity after birth, whereas this regeneration ability gradually loses in the postnatal heart. Thus, the reactivation of cardiomyocyte proliferation is emerging as a key strategy for inducing heart regeneration in adults. We have reported that a highly conserved long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) LncDACH1 was overexpressed in the failing hearts. Here, we found that LncDACH1 was gradually upregulated in the postnatal hearts. Cardiac-specific overexpression of LncDACH1 (TG) in mice suppressed neonatal heart regeneration and worsened cardiac function after apical resection. Conversely, in vivo cardiac conditional knockout of LncDACH1 (CKO) and adenovirus-mediated silencing of endogenous LncDACH1 reactivated cardiomyocyte-proliferative potential and promoted heart regeneration after myocardial infarction (MI) in juvenile and adult mice. Mechanistically, LncDACH1 was found to directly bind to protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit alpha (PP1A), and in turn, limit its dephosphorylation activity. Consistently, PP1A siRNA or pharmacological blockers of PP1A abrogated cardiomyocyte mitosis induced by LncDACH1 silencing. Furthermore, LncDACH1 enhanced yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) phosphorylation and reduced its nuclear translocation by binding PP1A. Verteporfin, a YAP1 inhibitor decreased LncDACH1 silencing-induced cardiomyocyte proliferation. In addition, targeting a conserved fragment of LncDACH1 caused cell cycle re-entry of human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. Collectively, LncDACH1 governs heart regeneration in postnatal and ischemic hearts via regulating PP1A/YAP1 signal, which confers a novel therapeutic strategy for ischemic heart diseases.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare the long-term survival of patients undergoing minimally invasive gastrectomy and those undergoing open gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) in the United States and China. METHODS: Data on patients with GA who underwent gastrectomy without neoadjuvant therapy were retrieved from prospectively maintained databases at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Fujian Medical University Union Hospital (FMUUH). Using propensity score-matching (PSM), equally sized cohorts of patients with similar clinical and pathologic characteristics who underwent minimally invasive versus open gastrectomy were selected. The primary end point of the study was 5-year overall survival (OS). RESULTS: The study identified 479 patients who underwent gastrectomy at MSKCC between 2000 and 2012 and 2935 patients who underwent gastrectomy at FMUUH between 2006 and 2014. Of the total 3432 patients, 1355 underwent minimally invasive gastrectomy, and 2059 underwent open gastrectomy. All the patients had at least 5 years of potential follow-up evaluation. Before PSM, most patient characteristics differed significantly between the patients undergoing the two types of surgery. After PSM, each cohort included 889 matched patients, and the actual 5-year OS did not differ significantly between the two cohorts, with an OS rate of 54% after minimally invasive gastrectomy and 50.4% after open gastrectomy (p = 0.205). Subgroup analysis confirmed that survival was similar between surgical cohorts among the patients for each stage of GA and for those undergoing distal versus total/proximal gastrectomy. In the multivariable analysis, surgical approach was not an independent prognostic factor. CONCLUSIONS: After PSM of U.S. and Chinese patients with GA undergoing gastrectomy, long-term survival did not differ significantly between the patients undergoing minimally invasive gastrectomy and those undergoing open gastrectomy.

Among large numbers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), monolayer rhenium disulfide (ReS2) is of particular interest due to its unique structural anisotropy, which opens up unprecedented opportunities in dichroic atomical electronics. Understanding the domain structure and controlling the anisotropic evolution of ReS2 during the growth is considered critical for increasing the domain size toward a large-scale growth of monolayer ReS2. Herein, by employing angle-resolved Raman spectroscopy, we reveal that the hexagonal ReS2 domain is constructed by six well-defined subdomains with each b-axis parallel to the diagonal of the hexagon. By further combining the first-principles calculations and the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization, a dislocation-involved anisotropic evolution is proposed to explain the formation of the domain structures and understand the limitation of the domain size. Based on these findings, growth rates of different crystal planes are well controlled to enlarge the domain size, and moreover, single-crystal domains with a triangle shape are obtained. With the improved domain size, large-scale uniform, strictly monolayer ReS2 films are grown further. Scalable field-effect transistor (FET) arrays are constructed, which show good electrical performances comparable or even superior to that of the single domains reported at room temperature. This work not only sheds light on comprehending the novel growth mechanism of ReS2 but also offers a robust and controllable strategy for the synthesis of large-area and high-quality two-dimensional materials with low structural symmetry.

Antifouling surfaces with optimized conformation and compositional heterogeneities are presented with the goal of improving the efficacy of surface protection. The approach exploits the adhesive group (thiol or catechol chain end) to anchor asymmetric polymer brushes (APBs) bearing amphiphilic side chains with synergistic nonfouling and fouling-release abilities onto the surface. The conformation of the APB surface is close to the fencelike structure, which mimics lubricating protein lubricin, endowing the surface with capacity of enhanced protection and antiadhesivity, even facing the high compression of fouling. By utilizing a poly(Br-acrylate-alkyne) macroagent comprising alkynyl and 2-bromopropionate groups, we prepared a series of APB surfaces based on polyacrylate-g-poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(pentafluorophenyl methacrylate) (PA-g-PEO/PPFMA) APBs to explore the influence of the content of the fluorinated segment and bioinspired topological polymer chemistry on their antifouling performance. The APB surfaces can not only provide compositional heterogeneities of PEO and fluorinated segments in each side chain but also give a high surface coverage because of the characteristic of high grafting density of macromolecular brushes. It was found for the first time, as far as we are aware, the fencelike APB surface shows excellent antifouling performance with less protein adsorption (up to 91% off) and cell adhesion (up to 84% off) in comparison with the controlled substrate under relatively long incubation time.

This paper presents the design, fabrication, and characterization of a middle-infrared (MIR) linear variable optical filter (LVOF) and thermopile detectors that will be used in a miniaturized mixed gas detector for CH4/CO2/CO measurement. The LVOF was designed as a tapered-cavity Fabry-Pérot optical filter, which can transform the MIR continuous spectrum into multiple narrow band-pass spectra with peak wavelength in linear variation. Multi-layer dielectric structures were used to fabricate the Bragg reflectors on the both sides of tapered cavity as well as the antireflective film combined with the function of out-of-band rejection. The uncooled thermopile detectors were designed and fabricated as a multiple-thermocouple suspension structure using micro-electro-mechanical system technology. Experimentally, the LVOF exhibits a mean full-width-at-half-maximum of 400 nm and mean peak transmittance of 70% at the wavelength range of 2.3~5 µm. The thermopile detectors exhibit a responsivity of 146 µV/°C at the condition of room temperature. It is demonstrated that the detectors can achieve the quantification and identification of CH4/CO2/CO mixed gas.

Asthma is a dynamic disease, in which lung mechanical and inflammatory processes interact in a complex manner, often resulting in exaggerated physiological, in particular, inflammatory responses to exogenous triggers. We hypothesize that this may be explained by respiratory disease-related systems instability and loss of adaptability to changing environmental conditions, manifested in highly fluctuating biomarkers and symptoms. Using time series of inflammatory (eosinophils, neutrophils, FeNO), clinical and lung function biomarkers (PEF, FVC,FEV1), we estimated this loss of adaptive capacity (AC) during an experimental rhinovirus infection in 24 healthy and asthmatic human volunteers. Loss of AC was estimated by comparing similarities between pre- and post-challenge time series. Unlike healthy participants, the asthmatic's post-viral-challenge state resembled more other rhinovirus-infected asthmatics than their own pre-viral-challenge state (hypergeometric-test: p=0.029). This reveals loss of AC and supports the concept that in asthma, biological processes underlying inflammatory and physiological responses are unstable, contributing to loss of control.

OBJECTIVE: Our study aimed to scrutinize the incidence and risk factors of femoral inserted central catheter (FICC)-related thrombosis in patients with superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of patients with SVCS undergoing chemotherapy who received FICC catheterization at the Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha City, Hunan Province between May 2012 and February 2019 was performed. Both asymptomatic thrombosis and symptomatic thrombosis were diagnosed by color doppler ultrasound (CDUS). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify patient-, insertion-, and catheter-related factors. RESULTS: Eight hundred and seventy-four patients with SVCS undergoing chemotherapy, with a total of 157,180 catheter days were enrolled in our study. FICC-related thrombosis was detected in 144 patients, and yielding an overall incidence of 16.47% or 0.92 events per 1000 catheter days. Of these, 19(2.17%) patients had symptomatic thrombosis. The mean time interval between FICC insertion and thrombosis onset was (10.40 ±â€¯6.32) days and the mean catheter indwelling time was (179.84 ±â€¯46.15) days. The history of deep venous thrombosis, treatment with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor (bevacizumab), puncture site (mid-thigh, groin), tip position and catheter size showed association with FICC-related thrombosis. Treatment with VEGF inhibitor [odds ratio (OR) = 2.779; 95%confidence interval (CI): 1.860-4.153; P < 0.001] and puncture site at the groin (OR = 10.843; 95%CI: 6.575-17.881; P < 0.001) were identified as independent risk factors of FICC-related thrombosis. CONCLUSION: Treatment with VEGF inhibitor and puncture site at the groin during FICC catheterization were considered as high-risk factors in FICC-related thrombosis.

AIM: To detect how BRCA-associated protein 1 (BAP1) regulates cell migration in uveal melanoma (UM) cells. METHODS: Wound healing and transwell assays were performed to detect UM cell migration abilities. Protein chip, immunoprecipitations and surface plasmon resonance analyses were applied to identify BAP1 protein partners. Western blot and calpain activity assays were used to test the expression and function of calpastatin (CAST). RESULTS: CAST protein was confirmed as a new BAP1 protein partner, and loss of BAP1 reduced the expression and function of CAST in UM cells. The overexpression of CAST rescued the cell migration phenotype caused by BAP1 loss. CONCLUSION: BAP1 interacts with CAST in UM cells, and CAST and its subsequent calpain pathway may mediate BAP1-related cell migration regulation.

Hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are among the candidates for color conversion materials in displays, especially in NC-based micro-light-emitting diode (micro-LED) displays. However, these NCs are still lacking long-term stability, which has hindered their large-scale applications. We mimic the working conditions, which include ultraviolet light illumination at 323 K and three different types of atmosphere (N2, vacuum, and air), respectively, to investigate the stability of CH3NH3PbBr3 NCs embedded in the polyvinylidene fluoride matrix. X-ray diffraction results indicate the generation of NH4Pb2Br5, which is produced from the encapsulated CH3NH3PbBr3 NCs in all three atmospheres, and the decomposition generates a large amount of accompanying interface defects at the surface area of NCs, resulting in the significant decrease of the photoluminescence (PL) intensity. This work highlights the stability-related mechanism of CH3NH3PbBr3 NCs under combined external stresses that mimic operating conditions. In addition, this work also suggests a new method for conducting aging tests and contributes to developing effective routes towards higher stability of perovskite NCs.

In this work, three-dimensional (3D) CoMoSe4 nanosheet arrays on network fibers of a carbon cloth denoted as CoMoSe4@C converted directly from CoMoO4 nanosheet arrays prepared by a hydrothermal process followed by the plasma-assisted selenization at a low temperature of 450 °C as an anode for sodium-ion battery (SIB) were demonstrated for the first time. With the plasma-assisted treatment on the selenization process, oxygen (O) atoms can be replaced by selenium (Se) atoms without the degradation on morphology at a low selenization temperature of 450 °C. Owing to the high specific surface area from the well-defined 3D structure, high electron conductivity, and bi-metal electrochemical activity, the superior performance with a large sodium-ion storage of 475 mA h g-1 under 0.5-3 V potential range at 0.1 A g-1 was accomplished by using this CoMoSe4@C as the electrode. Additionally, the capacity retention was well maintained over 80 % from the second cycle, exhibiting a satisfied capacity of 301 mA h g-1 even after 50 cycles. The work delivered a new approach to prepare a binary transition metallic selenide and definitely enriches the possibilities for promising anode materials in SIBs with high performances.

BACKGROUND: Examined lymph node counts of remnant gastric cancer patients are often insufficient, and the prognostic ability of tumor-node-metastasis staging is therefore limited. This study aimed to create a simple and universally applicable prediction model for RGC patients after completion of gastrectomy. METHODS: A 5-year overall survival prediction model for remnant gastric cancer patients was developed using a test dataset of 148 consecutive patients. Model coefficients were obtained based on the Cox analysis of clinicopathological factors. Prognostic performance was assessed with the concordance index (C-index) and decision curve analysis. For internal validation, the bootstrap method and calibration assessment were used. The model was validated using 2 external cohorts from China (First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, n = 46) and the United States (Mayo Clinic, n = 20). RESULTS: Depth of tumor invasion, number of metastatic lymph nodes, distant metastasis, and operative time were independent prognostic factors. Our model's C-index (0.761) showed better discriminatory power than that of the eighth tumor-node-metastasis staging system (0.714, P = .001). The model calibration was accurate at predicting 5-year survival. Decision curve analysis showed that the model had a greater benefit, and the results were also confirmed by bootstrap internal validation. In external validation, the C-index and decision curve analysis showed good prognostic performances in patient datasets from 2 participating institutions. Moreover, we verified the reliability of the model in an analysis of patients with different examined lymph node counts (>15 or ≤15). CONCLUSION: Utilizing clinically practical information, we developed a universally applicable prediction model for accurately determining the 5-year overall survival of remnant gastric cancer patients after completion of gastrectomy. Our predictive model outperformed tumor-node-metastasis staging in diverse international datasets regardless of examined lymph node counts.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of plasma high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in traumatic fracture patients. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study in 1 054 traumatic fracture patients admitted between April 2012 and December 2014. 188 cases were divided into DVT and others (n=866) into control group based on ultrasound results. The relationship between HDL-C and DVT was determined by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: Compared with control group, patients in DVT group had significantly lower HDL-C level, and low level of plasma HDL-C was associated with the occurrence of DVT. Deceased HDL-C, inceased age, inceased immobilization, inceasd anticoagulant-free days, fracture sites, and blood transfusion were risk factors for the occurrence of DVT in traumatic fracture patients. Patients with surgery had significantly lower level of HDL-C in both groups compared with patients without surgery respectively. CONCLUSION: Low level of plasma HDL-C was independently associated with the occurrence of DVT in traumatic fracture patients.

Integrated fabrics with a smart heating control system (HCS) are attractive in warming and thermotherapy for human healthcare management. Metal nanofibers (NFs) networks with high flexibility, conductivity and gas permeability are ideal functional materials for wearable electronics. Herein, a novel sandwich-structural (Ag NFs/fabrics/Pt NFs) textile for a HCS is constructed, where a Ag NF network film was functioned as a wearable heater and Pt NF network arrays were functioned as wearable temperature sensors. Conductivity and mechanical stability of the metal NFs were enhanced by crosslinking the free-standing fiber networks, resulting in high thermo-stability, thermal resistance (163.5 °C W-1 cm2) and temperature sensitivity (0.135% °C-1) of the HCS. The HCS can simultaneously realize heating and temperature distribution detection, demonstrating only 0.57% average error between the simulated resistance-to-temperature diagram of Pt NF arrays and actual temperature mapping. In addition, the HCS can be stuck on the skin for thermochromic fabrics, real-time heating and temperature detection/control through a Bluetooth device in a smartphone wirelessly.

Purpose: Hyaluronan (HA) is a potential regulator of TGFß1-induced differentiation in perimysial orbital fibroblasts (pOFs). Our study aimed to explore the effects of PH20 (a hyaluronidase) and HA on TGFß1-induced differentiation in pOFs cultured from thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) and control subjects. Methods: TAO and control pOFs (passages 3-6) were incubated with TGFß1 ± PH20 or TGFß1 ± HA for 72 hours and processed for various analyses, including HA electrophoresis; αSMA immunofluorescence; and quantification of αSMA (encoded by ACTA2), CD44 (a cell surface HA receptor), and SMAD2/3 (signaling molecule in the TGFß1 pathway). Results: TGFß1 induced myogenic differentiation (marked by αSMA upregulation) of pOFs. After TGFß1 treatment, more HA accumulated in the TAO group than in the control group. PH20 mainly digested medium to small HA and increased the percentage of high molecular weight HA (HMW-HA) in total HA. Both PH20 and HMW-HA inhibited TGFß1-induced differentiation in the TAO group, but neither showed significant effects in the control group. CD44 level negatively correlated with ACTA2 level in the TAO group, but no correlation was detected in the control group. Both PH20 and HMW-HA upregulated CD44 expression and inhibited SMAD2/3 expression in the TAO group, and the inhibitory effects were partially reversed by CD44 blockage. CD44 level in the control group was not affected by PH20 or HMW-HA treatment, and CD44 blockage showed no significant effects on control pOF differentiation. Conclusions: PH20 inhibits TGFß1-induced differentiation of TAO pOFs via HA-CD44-SMAD2/3 signaling, and the HA-CD44 signaling plays a divergent role in TAO and control pOFs.

BACKGROUND: The definition and predictors of early recurrence (ER) for gastric cancer (GC) patients after radical gastrectomy are unclear. METHODS: A minimum-p value approach was used to evaluate the optimal cutoff value of recurrence-free survival to determine ER and late recurrence (LR). Receiver operating characteristic curves were generated for inflammatory indices. Potential risk factors for ER were assessed with a Cox regression model. A decision curve analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical utility. RESULTS: A total of 401 patients recruited in a clinical trial (NCT02327481) from January 2015 to April 2016 were included in this study. The optimal length of recurrence-free survival to distinguish between ER (n = 44) and LR (n = 52) was 12 months. Factors associated with ER included a preoperative C-reactive protein-albumin ratio (CAR) ≥ 0.131, stage III and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (PAC) > 3 cycles. The risk model consisting of both the CAR and TNM stage had a higher predictive ability and better clinical utility than TNM stage alone. Further stratification analysis of the stage III patients found that for the patients with a CAR < 0.131, both PAC with 1-3 cycles (p = 0.029) and > 3 cycles (p < 0.001) could reduce the risk of ER. However, for patients with a CAR ≥ 0.131, a benefit was observed only if they received PAC > 3 cycles (54.2% vs 16.0%, p = 0.004), rather than 1-3 cycles (58.3% vs 54.2%, p = 0.824). CONCLUSIONS: A recurrence-free interval of 12 months was found to be the optimal threshold for differentiating between ER and LR. Preoperative CAR was a promising predictor of ER and PAC response. PAC with 1-3 cycles may not exert a protective effect against ER for stage III GC patients with CAR ≥ 0.131.

Two-dimensional (2D) metal oxide (MO) nanomaterials, like graphene, possess unique electrical, mechanical, optical and catalytic performances, and have attracted substantial research interest recently. However, it remains a challenge to easily obtain 2D MO nanosheets by a generalized synthetic pathway. Here, we report a general and facile strategy for the synthesis of 2D MO nanosheets induced by nonionic surfactant micelles. Notably, the novel strategy primarily relies on the thermoregulated phase transition of the micelles. The resulting 2D MO nanosheets show high specific surface areas. As a demonstration, Sb2O3 nanosheets synthesized by our method as anodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have a high reversible capacity of 420 mA h g-1 and a high capacity retention of 99% after 150 cycles at 0.1 A g-1. Mn3O4 nanosheets for supercapacitors have a remarkable specific capacitance of 127 F g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1. Even at a large current density of 5 A g-1 after 10 000 cycles, 96% of the specific capacitance is retained, demonstrating the remarkable performance of these nanosheets for energy storage applications.

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a severe complication associated with high morbidity and mortality after radical gastrectomy (RG) for gastric cancer (GC). We hypothesized that a novel abdominal negative pressure lavage-drainage system (ANPLDS) can effectively reduce the failure-to-rescue (FTR) and the risk of reoperation, and it is a feasible management for AL. AIM: To report our institution's experience with a novel ANPLDS for AL after RG for GC. METHODS: The study enrolled 4173 patients who underwent R0 resection for GC at our institution between June 2009 and December 2016. ANPLDS was routinely used for patients with AL after January 2014. Characterization of patients who underwent R0 resection was compared between different study periods. AL rates and postoperative outcome among patients with AL were compared before and after the ANPLDS therapy. We used multivariate analyses to evaluate clinicopathological and perioperative factors for associations with AL and FTR after AL. RESULTS: AL occurred in 83 (83/4173, 2%) patients, leading to 7 deaths. The mean time of occurrence of AL was 5.6 days. The AL rate was similar before (2009-2013, period 1) and after (2014-2016, period 2) the implementation of the ANPLDS therapy (1.7% vs 2.3%, P = 0.121). Age and malnourishment were independently associated with AL. The FTR rate and abdominal bleeding rate after AL occurred were respectively 8.4% and 9.6% for the entire period; however, compared with period 1, this significantly decreased during period 2 (16.2% vs 2.2%, P = 0.041; 18.9% vs 2.2%, P = 0.020, respectively). Moreover, the reoperation rate was also reduced in period 2, although this result was not statistically significant (13.5% vs 2.2%, P = 0.084). Additionally, only ANPLDS therapy was an independent protective factor for FTR after AL (P = 0.04). CONCLUSION: Our experience demonstrates that ANPLDS is a feasible management for AL after RG for GC.

BACKGROUND: Serum prealbumin (PALB) can predict the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer (GC). However, the prognostic value of combination of C-reactive protein and PALB (CRP/PALB) remains unclear. METHODS: A total of 419 gastric cancer patients included in a clinical trial (NCT02327481) were analyzed. The present study is a substudy of the trial. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated, and by calculating the areas under the curve (AUC) and the C-index, the discriminative ability of each inflammatory index was compared, including CRP/PALB, C-reactive protein/albumin, Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), modified GPS, systemic immune-inflammation index, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet-lymphocyte ratio. RESULTS: Ultimately, 401 patients were included in this study. The optimal cutoff value of CRP/PALB was 17.7. According to this cutoff point, the entire sample was divided into a CRP/PALB < 17.7 (LCP) group and a CRP/PALB ≥ 17.7 (HCP) group, comprising 245 and 156 patients, respectively. There were 54 and 22 patients experienced recurrence in the HCP and LCP group, respectively, p < 0.001. Compared with traditional inflammatory indices, CRP/PALB had the highest AUC (0.707) and C-index (0.716), all p < 0.05. The post-recurrence survival (PRS) of patients in the HCP group was significantly shorter than that in the LCP group (p = 0.010), especially for pathological stage III patients (p = 0.015) or patients with distant (p = 0.018) or local (p = 0.023) recurrences. CONCLUSIONS: The predictive value of preoperative CRP/PALB for the recurrence of GC is significantly better than traditional inflammatory indices. HCP significantly reduces the PRS, especially for pathological stage III patients or patients with distant or local recurrences.
