BACKGROUND: The effect of the patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 gene (PNPLA3) I148M polymorphism on the risk and severity of paediatric and adolescent nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains inconclusive. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to estimate the effect of this polymorphism not only on early-onset NAFLD risk and severity but also on metabolic syndromes susceptibility. METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed to identify relevant datasets. The odds ratio of the dichotomic variables and the standardized mean difference of quantitative variables with corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated to assess the strength of the associations. RESULTS: Twenty-seven studies comprising 10 070 subjects were eligible. The summary effect showed that this polymorphism increased susceptibility to NAFLD development. Furthermore, it also indicated that nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was more frequently observed in G allele carriers among paediatric and adolescent NAFLD patients. Moreover, the meta-analysis suggested that the variant was significantly associated with elevated liver damage indexes, including serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, gamma-glutamyltransferase concentrations, and liver fat content. However, the summary estimates for insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, and adiposity showed no significant associations. CONCLUSIONS: The PNPLA3 I148M polymorphism is associated with elevated early-onset NAFLD risk, severity, and liver damage but not with related metabolic syndromes.

Whether the Adrenoceptor Beta 3 (ADRB3) gene rs4994 polymorphism could affect the individual risk of childhood and adolescent overweight/obesity remains controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to estimate the prevalence of this polymorphism in overweight/obesity, and test the potential association by summarizing existing evidence. Comprehensive literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, and CNKI databases was performed to identify eligible data sets. Finally, 16 studies involving 5,147 overweight/obese cases and 7,350 non-obese controls were included for further synthetic analyses. Odds ratio (OR) and its corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were statistically calculated. Totally, 69.9% of the included subjects came from East Asia. In the meta-analysis for overall population, statistically significant associations with increased risk of childhood and adolescent overweight/obesity were identified in allele model (OR 1.23, 95% CI 1.10-1.38), heterozygote model (OR 1.39, 95% CI 1.16-1.68), and dominant model (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.12-1.54). Further stratified analysis according to geographical regions revealed that the statistical significance could only be detected in the East Asia subgroup in allele model, homozygote model, heterozygote model, and dominant model. In summary, our meta-analysis indicated that the ADRB3 rs4994 polymorphism could significantly increase the risk of childhood and adolescent overweight/obesity, especially for the East Asia's population.

Since the advent of monolayered 2D transition metal carbide and nitrides (MXenes) in 2011, the number of different monolayer systems and the study thereof have been on the rise. Mo2 Ti2 C3 is one of the least studied MXenes and new insights to this material are of value to the field. Here, the stability of Mo2 Ti2 C3 under electron irradiation is investigated. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) is used to study the structural and elemental changes in situ. It is found that Mo2 Ti2 C3 is reasonably stable for the first 2 min of irradiation. However, structural changes occur thereafter, which trigger increasingly rapid and significant rearrangement. This results in the formation of pores and two new nanomaterials, namely, N-doped graphene membranes and Mo nanoribbons. The study provides insight into the stability of Mo2 Ti2 C3 monolayers against electron irradiation, which will allow for reliable future study of the material using TEM. Furthermore, these findings will facilitate further research in the rapidly growing field of electron beam driven chemistry and engineering of nanomaterials.

A water-soluble polysaccharide fraction named FZPS-1 was obtained from Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (Fuzi in Chinese). Physicochemical and instrumental analyses indicated that the purified FZPS-1 with an average molecular weight of 6.29 × 106 Da was composed of D-arabinose and d-glucose with a molar ratio of 7.5:92.5. It would contain the main chain fragments of →4)-α-D-Glc-(1 â†’ 4)-α-D-Glc-(1→, with the side chain of terminal α-L-Ara-(1 â†’ linked at C6 of D-Glc skeleton. FZPS-1 exhibited significant antioxidative activity and immunomodulatory activity, wherein it promotes macrophage phagocytosis and increases the secretion of macrophage-derived biological factors in RAW 264.7 cells, and a cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppressed model in a dose-dependent manner. Oral administration of FZPS-1 ameliorated chronic diarrhea in rhubarb-induced spleen deficiency rats and was related to its immunomodulatory activity. Therefore, the obtained FZPS-1 could be potentially utilized as a natural immunomodulatory agent in functional food supplements or drugs.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are ancient and ubiquitous soil microorganisms, which can form mutually beneficial association with most terrestrial plants. Within the symbiotic relationship, AMF helps their host plants to absorb nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus while obtains carbon from the hosts. AMF plays an important role in agricultural ecosystem, including promoting plant growth, improving crop quality, increasing plant stress resistance, stabilizing soil structure, keeping ecological balance, and maintaining a sustainable agricultural development. We summarized the research advances of AMF in terrestrial agro-ecosystem in recent years, by focusing on AMF species diversity, spatial and temporal distribution, and influence factors of AMF biodiversity in terrestrial agro-ecosystem of China. Further research works were also prospected.

This meta-analysis aimed to systematically review the evidence on cancer risk of the MMP-8 rs11225395 promoter polymorphism. Relevant studies published by 12 June 2019 were identified by systematically searching PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI and Wanfang databases. R programs and STATA software were used to calculate odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). In total, 7375 cancer samples and 8117 controls were included by integrating 15 case-control data sets. Pooled estimates from the statistical analysis revealed no statistical significance for the association between this polymorphism and cancer risk. All pooled estimates resulting from subgroup analyses by cancer type and sample size were not materially altered and did not draw significantly different conclusions. The stratified analyses according to geographic region showed the statistical significance for increased cancer risk of the MMP-8 rs11225395 polymorphism in non-Asian populations under the allele model (OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.04-1.19), homozygote model (OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.05-1.41), heterozygote model (OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.07-1.36), and dominant model (OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.08-1.35). However, no statistical significance was detected in Asian populations. In conclusion, these findings suggested that the MMP-8 rs11225395 polymorphism is associated with elevated susceptibility to cancer in non-Asian populations.

Interleukin-24 (IL-24) is a promising agent for cancer immunotherapy that induces apoptosis of tumor cells and enhances T cell activation and function. In order to improve the antitumor activity induced by Newcastle disease virus (NDV)-modified tumor vaccine, we generated a recombinant NDV expressing IL-24 using reverse genetics. Irradiated tumor cells infected with LX/IL-24 showed stable IL-24 expression. The cytotoxicity assay showed that LX/IL-24-infected murine melanoma cells significantly enhanced the antitumor immune response in vitro. Then, the antitumor effects of virus-infected tumor cells were examined in the murine tumor models. LX/IL-24-infected tumor cells exhibited strong antitumor effects both in prophylaxis and therapeutic models. LX/IL-24-infected tumor cells increased infiltration of CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells in tumor sites, and the antitumor activity of the tumor vaccine modified with LX/IL-24 was dependent on CD8+ T cells. Taken together, our data well illustrates that LX/IL-24-modified tumor cells are a promising agent for cancer immunotherapy.

Objective: As an important DNA repair gene, the xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group C (XPC) gene and its functional genetic variants' relationship with chemotherapy response has been extensively studied. To quantitatively elucidate the genetic impact of the XPC rs2228000 and rs2228001 polymorphisms on the response to platinum-based chemotherapy, the present meta-analysis was conducted. Materials and methods: A systematic literature search was performed in seven cyber databases until February 20, 2019, for all relevant studies that assessed the relationship between XPC polymorphisms and the response to platinum-based chemotherapy. Odds ratios (ORs) with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were measured to assess the strength of the association. R programs were developed to perform the statistical analyses, including calculations of pooled estimates, publication bias and sensitivity analyses, and heterogeneity interpretations. Results: A total of 1,615 patients from 10 studies for the rs2228001 polymorphism were winnowed for further statistical analysis. For the rs2228000 polymorphism, 858 samples from six datasets were included. However, this meta-analysis indicated no significant effect of these two XPC polymorphisms on the response to platinum-based chemotherapy. When stratified according to sample size, country or cancer type, no statistical significance for association was identified in all subgroups. Further sensitivity analysis and publication bias assessment ensured the reliability of the meta-analysis. Conclusions: The pooled estimates suggest that neither the rs2228000 polymorphism nor the rs2228001 polymorphism contributes to the genetic predisposition for an altered response to platinum-based chemotherapy. Considering the limitations of our present meta-analysis, more studies with large-scale cohorts and rigorous methods are needed to validate our results.

Hemoglobinopathies are caused by genetic defects on the globin genes. To date, more than 900 ß-globin variants have been recorded worldwide. These gene alterations often cause either a decrease in ß-globin synthesis or completely block synthesis, leading to a hemoglobinopathy. While most of these causative mutations are inherited, de novo mutations are quite rare. Here, we investigated three hemoglobinopathy cases. These patients developed severe hemolytic anemia at 3-5 months of age and were transfusion-dependent. In patient 1, a novel ß variant, Hb Zunyi [ß147(HC3)Stop→Gln; HBB: c.442T>C] was identified. This de novo mutation results in a stop codon substitution to a glutamine residue at codon 147 of the ß-globin gene, and leads to severe thalassemia. In patient 2, we discovered the rare Hb Southampton mutation [ß106(G8)Leu→Pro; HBB: c.320T>C], while in patient 3, the rare Hb Alesha mutation [ß67(E11)Val→Met (GTG>ATG); HBB: c.202G>A] was detected. The identification of the novel ß variant, Hb Zunyi, has added to the human globin database and will shed light on future diagnosis of hemoglobinopathy/thalassemia and genetic counseling.

As an emerging and promising technique, device-free localization (DFL) estimates target positions by analyzing their shadowing effects. Most existing compressive sensing (CS)-based DFL methods use the changes of received signal strength (RSS) to approximate the shadowing effects. However, in changing environments, RSS readings are vulnerable to environmental dynamics. The deviation between runtime RSS variations and the data in a fixed dictionary can significantly deteriorate the performance of DFL. In this paper, we introduce ComDec, a novel CS-based DFL method using channel state information (CSI) to enhance localization accuracy and robustness. To exploit the channel diversity of CSI measurements, the DFL problem is formulated as a joint sparse recovery problem that recovers multiple sparse vectors with common support. To solve this problem, we develop a joint sparse recovery algorithm under the variational Bayesian inference framework. In this algorithm, dictionaries are parameterized based on the saddle surface model. To adapt to the environmental changes and different channel characteristics, dictionary parameters are modelled as tunable parameters. Simulation results verified the superior performance of ComDec as compared with other state-of-the-art CS-based DFL methods.

BACKGROUND: Most gastric cancers are diagnosed at an advanced or metastatic stage with poor prognosis and survival rate. Fatty acid 2-hydroxylase (FA2H) with high expression in stomach generates chiral (R)-2-hydroxy FAs ((R)-2-OHFAs) and regulates glucose utilization which is important for cell proliferation and invasiveness. We hypothesized that FA2H impacts gastric tumor growth and could represent a novel target to improve gastric cancer therapy. METHODS: FA2H level in 117 human gastric tumors and its association with tumor growth, metastasis and overall survival were examined. Its roles and potential mechanisms in regulating tumor growth were studied by genetic and pharmacological manipulation of gastric cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. FINDINGS: FA2H level was lower in gastric tumor tissues as compared to surrounding tissues and associated with clinicopathologic status of patients, which were confirmed by analyses of multiple published datasets. FA2H depletion decreased tumor chemosensitivity, partially due to inhibition of AMPK and activation of the mTOR/S6K1/Gli1 pathway. Conversely, FA2H overexpression or treatment with (R)-2-OHFAs had the opposite effects. In line with these in vitro observations, FA2H knockdown promoted tumor growth with increased level of tumor Gli1 in vivo. Moreover, (R)-2-OHFA treatment significantly decreased Gli1 level in gastric tumors and enhanced tumor chemosensitivity to cisplatin, while alleviating the chemotherapy-induced weight loss in mice. INTERPRETATION: Our results demonstrate that FA2H plays an important role in regulating Hh signaling and gastric tumor growth and suggest that (R)-2-OHFAs could be effective as nontoxic wide-spectrum drugs to promote chemosensitivity. Eutrophication is a leading cause of impairment of lentic water bodies throughout the world. To inhibit algal blooms and remove excess nutrients, a 10,000 m2 restoration project consisting of vegetation establishment and fish manipulation was conducted in the eutrophic bay of the Yantian Reservoir, southern China. Three Ecopath models were constructed to assess the recovery effects at an ecosystem level, and time series data were simulated to propose a fishery policy. During the restoration, 1) the redundant primary production flowing back to detritus decreased due to the increased predation of four stocked fish with different feeding habits; 2) the transfer efficiencies (TEs) through trophic levels increased due to the reinforced energy flows along the planktivorous, herbivorous, and molluscivorous food chains; 3) the groups that had the highest keystoneness shifted from carnivorous fish to invertivorous fish and omnivorous shrimp, indicating the shift of mixed trophic impacts from top-down to wasp-waist control; and 4) the changing indices of path length, flow fluxes, matter cycling, and network information showed that the restored system was more mature, developed, and organized than before. To sustain the long-term energy balance and functioning of the ecosystem, the maximum fishing yields (0.37-8.53 g/m2/year) were determined to maintain the relative biomass (close to 1) of stocked fish and wild tilapia by harvesting their annual production.

OBJECTIVES: Thalassemia is a highly prevalent monogenic inherited disease in southern China. It is important to collect epidemiological data comprehensively for proper prevention and treatment. METHODS: In this study, blood samples collected from 15 807 residents of Chenzhou were primarily screened by hematological tests. A total of 3973 samples of suspected thalassemia carriers were further characterized by combined next-generation sequencing (NGS) and Gap-PCR. RESULTS: In total, 1704 subjects were diagnosed as thalassemia carriers with a total prevalence rate of 10.78%, including 943 α-thalassemia carriers, 708 ß-thalassemia carriers, and 53 composite α and ß-thalassemia carriers. The prevalence rates of α-thalassemia, ß-thalassemia, and composite α and ß-thalassemia were 5.97%, 4.48%, and 0.34%, respectively. Meanwhile, we characterized 19 α-thalassemia variations and 21 ß-thalassemia variations in thalassemia carriers. Approximately 2.88% of thalassemia carriers would be missed by traditional genetic analysis. In addition, four novel thalassemia mutations and one novel abnormal hemoglobin mutation were identified. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest a high prevalence of thalassemia and a diverse spectrum of thalassemia-associated variations in Chenzhou. Also, combined NGS and Gap-PCR is an effective thalassemia screening method. Our findings might be helpful for prevention and treatment of thalassemia in this region.

BACKGROUND: Gegen Qinlian decoction (GQT), is a classic traditional Chinese medicine formula chronicled in Shang Han Lun, and is widely used to treat diarrhea and inflammation symptoms in various gastrointestinal disorders. Although it has been found to inhibit delayed-onset mice diarrhea resulted from irinotecan (CPT-11) administration in preliminary experiments, the underlying mechanisms and chemical components remain elusive. METHODS: The effective fraction of GQT by macroporous resin elution was obtained and screened using a diarrhea mouse model induced by CPT-11 and quantified by UPLC analysis. The protective effect of GQT extract towards alleviating diarrhea in mice following CPT-11 administration was further investigated. The levels of inflammatory cytokines and intestinal tight junction related proteins in colonic tissues were determined. The inhibitory effect of GQT extract against hCE2 was evaluated by a fluorescence-based method. Lastly, the synergistic effect of GQT extract combined with CPT-11 against tumor growth in a colorectal tumor mouse model, induced by HT-29 colon cancer cells xenograft subcutaneously, was investigated. RESULTS: The obtained GQT extract, which profoundly ameliorated the gut toxicity induced by CPT-11, contained puerarin, liquiritin, berberine, and baicalin of 27.2 mg/g, 4.6 mg/g, 491.4 mg/g, and 304.2 mg/g, respectively. After 5 days of administration of GQT extract to mice with diarrhea induced by CPT-11, aberrantly elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1ß, COX-2, ICAM-1, and TNF-α, were significantly decreased. Meanwhile, GQT extract also exhibited a remarkable anti-oxidative stress effect, involving activating the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway, and up-regulating the intestinal barrier function by enhancing the expression of tight junction proteins ZO-1, HO-1, and occludin. Additionally, a potent inhibitory effect of GQT extract against hCE2 was observedin vitro, with its IC50 value of 0.187 mg/ml, suggesting alleviating activity on hCE2-mediated severe diarrhea in patients suffered from CPT-11. Moreover, GQT extract was shown to improve inhibition of the colonic tumor growth synergistically with CPT-11. CONCLUSION: The present study indicates that GQT extract can ameliorate CPT-11 induced gut toxicity in mice and improve CPT-11 efficacy in colorectal cancer treatment.

RATIONALE: Phyllodes tumors (PTs) of the breast are rare biphasic fibroepithelial neoplasms which usually present with unilateral palpable breast lumps. Here we reported a case of borderline PTs with multifocal intraductal lesions whose primary clinical manifestation was nipple discharge. PATIENT CONCERNS: A rare case of PT with nipple discharge in a 26-year-old young lady accepted a wide local excision on her left breast, and the pathological examination turned out to be a malignant phyllodes tumor. After a 12-month follow-up, no local or distant recurrence was observed. DIAGNOSIS: Borderline PTs with multifocal intraductal lesions INTERVENTIONS:: The patient received wide local excision with clear margin. After the operation, the patient is undergoing surveillance through ultrasonography and physical examination every 3 months. OUTCOMES: After a follow-up of 12 months, no local or distant recurrence was observed. LESSONS: The lesions of the PTs are often manifested with unilateral, palpable masses in the breast. There are very few case reports of PTs manifested with nipple discharge in the literature. We should improve the understanding of the multiple clinical manifestations of PTs.

Objective To investigate the effects of myeloid-related protein 8 (MRP8), MRP14 and MRP8/14 heterodimer on the phenotypic maturation of mice bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Methods BMDCs were cultured and purified in vitro and divided into control group (equal volume of PBS), MRP14 (1 µg/mL) treatment group, MRP8 (1 µg/mL) treatment group and MRP8/14 (1 µg/mL) treatment group. Flow cytometry was used to detect the expression of costimulatory molecules, such as CD40, CD80, CD86 and major histocompatibility complex II (MHC II ) on the surface of BMDCs after stimulation. Results MRP14, MRP8 and MRP8/14 promoted the expression of CD40, CD80 and CD86, while MRP14 and MRP8 promoted the expression of MHC II on the surface of BMDCs. Moreover, the ability to promote the expression of CD80 and CD86 is stronger in MRP14 and MRP8/14 than MRP8. Conclusion MRP14, MRP8 and MRP8/14 promote the phenotypic maturation of BMDCs by increasing the expression of costimulatory molecules, and MRP14, MRP8 and MRP8/14 also differ in their ability to promote BMDCs to expresse various costimulatory molecules.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the patterns of pneumococcal disease vaccination, the time between two different pneumococcal vaccine doses and factors associated with series completion. METHODS: A retrospective claims database analysis was conducted using the Clinformatics DataMart™ database. Adults who turned 65 years between January 1st, 2013 to June 30th, 2017 and were continuously enrolled (≥15 months) in the Medicare Advantage plans to June 30th, 2017 were included in this study. Pneumococcal vaccination patterns included: PCV13-PPV23, PPV23-PCV13, or receiving PPV23 or PCV13 only. Pneumococcal vaccination series completion was defined as receiving PCV13-PPV23 or PPV23-PCV13 from 65 years old to June 30th, 2017 while non-completion was defined as receiving only PCV13 or only PPV23 from 65 years old to June 30th, 2017. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with pneumococcal vaccination series completion. RESULTS: A total of 224,132 adults were included in this study. Most received no pneumococcal vaccination (49%), while 34.3% received only one vaccine. Series completion occurred in 16.8% of adults. Some adults received only one vaccination: 11.6% received PPV23 and 22.7% received PCV13. The mean time between vaccinations was 420.8 days (approximately 14 months) for the PCV-PPV23 series, and 595.5 days (approximately 20 months) for the PPV23-PCV13 series. Adults were significantly more likely to complete pneumococcal vaccination series if they had at least one doctor's office, outpatient visit, or pharmacy visit versus no visits, or received an influenza vaccination in the first year after turning 65 years than those who did not (All: P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Despite the 2014 recommendation, percentages of pneumococcal vaccination series completion were found to be low, aligning with recent literature. This highlights the need to improve series completion, given the increased risk and associated economic burden of pneumococcal disease in adults aged ≥65 years.

Stomata play a critical role in the regulation of gas exchange between the interior of the leaf and the exterior environment and are affected by environmental and endogenous stimuli. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus, Rhizophagus irregularis, on the stomatal behavior of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants under combination with elevated CO2 and NaCl stress. Wheat seedlings were exposed to ambient (400 ppm) or elevated (700 ppm) CO2 concentrations and 0, 1, and 2 g kg-1 dry soil NaCl treatments for 10 weeks. AM symbiosis increased the leaf area and stomatal density (SD) of the abaxial surface. Stomatal size and the aperture of adaxial and abaxial leaf surfaces were higher in the AM than non-AM plants under elevated CO2 and salinity stress. AM plants showed higher stomatal conductance (g s ) and maximum rate of g s to water vapor (g smax ) compared with non-AM plants. Moreover, leaf water potential (Ψ) was increased and carbon isotope discrimination (Δ13C) was decreased by AM colonization, and both were significantly associated with stomatal conductance. The results suggest that AM symbiosis alters stomatal morphology by changing SD and the size of the guard cells and stomatal pores, thereby improving the stomatal conductance and water relations of wheat leaves under combined elevated CO2 and salinity stress.

BACKGROUND: Conventional photodynamic therapy (C-PDT) is an effective treatment for actinic keratoses (AKs) in Asia, with some unmet needs. Severe PDT-associated pain results in low treatment willingness. Daylight photodynamic therapy (DL-PDT) is a more simple and tolerable treatment that has the same efficacy as C-PDT in Europe. However, few studies have been conducted with Asian patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of DL-PDT vs. C-PDT for treating AK patients in China. METHODS: This randomized and prospective study was conducted in Shanghai, China. Sixty patients with AKs (grades I-III) were randomized into two groups (DL-PDT and C-PDT). PDT was performed once every two weeks for a total of three times. Patients were evaluated before each treatment (baseline and two weeks after the first and second treatment) and at one month after the third treatment. Endpoints included efficacy (lesion response) and safety (pain scale and adverse events). RESULTS: A total of 55 patients completed the study. At the first month after 3 sessions of PDT, the overall lesion clearance rate of DL-PDT (95.5%) was similar to that of C-PDT (96.8%). However, in some particular parts (eyebrow and sideburns), C-PDT resulted in higher rates of cured lesions than DL-PDT. Additionally, patients undergoing DL-PDT had nearly no pain, showing significantly lower pain scores than those undergoing C-PDT (1.7 ± 0.9 for DL-PDT vs. 5.2 ± 1.7 for C-PDT). Moreover, fewer subjects undergoing DL-PDT had related adverse events than those undergoing C-PDT (36.7% vs. 63.3%). CONCLUSION: DL-PDT was effective, better tolerated and nearly painless compared with C-PDT in AK patients in China.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the bioequivalence between single-dose intravenous (IV) infusion injection (the infusion time was 15 minutes and 45 minutes) and tablets of 1,000 mg levetiracetam in healthy Chinese male subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a randomized, open-label, three-way crossover bioequivalence study. All of the 24 healthy male subjects received a treatment of 45-minute IV infusion, 15-minute IV infusion, and oral tablets. RESULTS: After a single dose, the AUC, Vd, Cl, and T1/2 were all essentially consistent among the treatment; tmax of 15-minute IV, 45-minute IV, and oral tablets were 0.25 hours, 0.75 hours, and 0.5 hours, respectively. The Cmax of the 15-minute IV was higher than the value of the 45-minute IV and the oral tablets. The geometric mean of the 15-minute IV/oral and the 45-minute IV/oral ratios were 101.02% (90% CI, 98.95 - 103.12) and 98.22% (90% CI, 96.22 - 100.27), respectively, for AUC0-t. And those for Cmax were 169.09% (90% CI, 155.21 - 184.21) and 106.95 (90% CI, 98.20 - 116.48), respectively. There were no severe adverse events or other adverse events with clinical significance during the study. CONCLUSION: In these healthy subjects, the results showed that 45-minute IV and oral tablets were bioequivalent. The t<sub>max</sub> of the 15-minute IV and oral tablets were significantly different. The tmax of the oral tablets was between that of the 15-minute IV and the 45-minute IV. The elimination of injection and oral tablets in humans was similar. Levetiracetam concentrated solution for injection and oral tablets were safe for healthy Chinese male subjects in this study.
