RESUMO

Hypoxia plays a major role in various tumor types. However, few studies have concentrated on the prognostic model of hypoxia-related genes in rectal cancer and the effect of hypoxia on neutrophil-mediated immunosuppression. We performed Kaplan-Meier analysis, random survival forest analysis, and Cox regression analysis on 342 hypoxia-related genes, constructed hypoxia score in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) cohort, and verified them in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort. Then the patients were divided into two groups according to the risk level. The overall survival rate of the high-risk (HRisk) group was significantly higher than that of the low-risk (LRisk) group (GEO, p < 0.001; TCGA, p = 0.016). Through receiver operating characteristic and decision curve analysis, the nomogram based on hypoxia score has excellent prediction ability. Functional enrichment analysis showed that hypoxia, metastasis, inflammation, immunity, and other related pathways were enriched. The HRisk group was associated with lower tumor purity, higher immune and stromal score, higher neutrophils, and lower activated memory CD4 + T cells. More importantly, the checkpoint of neutrophil-mediated immunosuppression increased in the HRisk group. In conclusion, a hypoxia score based on 5 hypoxia-related genes can be used to predict the prognosis of rectal cancer and ANLN with a cancer-suppressing effect and SRPX (Sushi Repeat Containing Protein X-Linked) with a cancer-promoting effect may be potential therapeutic targets for rectal cancer.

(1) Objective: This study aimed to examine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children aged 6-14 years in Beijing, and to determine whether sedentary behavior is a risk factor. (2) Methods: Using a multistage stratified cluster random sampling method, 3460 students were selected for the Nutrition and Health Surveillance in Schoolchildren of Beijing (NHSSB). Data on children's sedentary behavior time and MetS indicators were collected using the questionnaires, physical measurements, and laboratory tests. MetS was defined according to the CHN2012 criteria, and logistic regression analysis was used to compare the effects of different sedentary time on MetS and its components. (3) Results: The overall prevalence of MetS among children aged 6-14 in Beijing was 2.4%, and boys, suburban children, and older age were associated with a higher prevalence (χ2 values were 3.947, 9.982, and 27.463, respectively; p < 0.05). In boys, the prevalence rates of abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, high triglycerides (TG), and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were higher in the high-level sedentary behavior group than those in the low-level sedentary behavior group (p < 0.05); and in girls, the prevalence rates of high TG, low HDL-C, and MetS were higher in the high-level sedentary behavior group than those in the low-level sedentary behavior group (p < 0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors, the multivariate logistic regression results showed that compared with children with low-level sedentary behavior, the risks of abdominal obesity and low HDL-C were higher in boys with high-level sedentary behavior (odds ratio (OR) 1.51, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.10-2.07, p = 0.011; OR 2.25, 95% CI 1.06-4.76, p = 0.034, respectively); while the risk of abdominal obesity was higher in girls with medium and high-level sedentary behavior (OR 1.52, 95% CI 1.01-2.27, p = 0.043; OR 1.59, 95% CI 1.04-2.43, p = 0.032, respectively). (4) Conclusions: Higher sedentary behavior time was related to the higher risk of MetS components among children aged 6-14 in Beijing. Reducing sedentary behavior may be an important method for preventing metabolic diseases.

Magnetic stimulation has some similarities with acupuncture, and it has broad application prospects because of its non-invasiveness and easy quantification. This paper combines magnetic stimulation technology with electroencephalography to analyze the time-frequency and the brain functional network results elicited by magnetic stimulation at different acupoints. This paper hopes to observe the different effects of stimulating different acupoints on the brain from the perspective of EEG. The EEG signals during magnetic stimulation at ST36, ST40, and GB37 were recorded, respectively. The time-frequency results showed that the magnetic stimulation at ST36 and ST40 on the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian increased the energy in the left parietal lobe and the right central region, and the energy increased mainly in the theta and alpha bands. However, during the magnetic stimulation at GB37 on the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, the energy in the central region and the frontal lobe increased, and the energy increased mainly in the delta, theta, and alpha bands. Moreover, the energy in the right parietal lobe decreased during magnetic stimulation at GB37. The results of brain functional network were also consistent with time-frequency results. The brain network connections of GB37 stimulation in the central region were significantly less than that of ST36 and ST40 (p < 0.01). In addition, the connections between central region and frontal lobe and the connections between central region and parietal lobe of GB37 stimulation were significantly different from that of ST36 and ST40 (p < 0.01). The above results indicate that ST36 and ST40 on the same meridian have similar effects on the brain, while GB37 on the other meridian has completely different effects from ST36 and ST40. The results of this paper explain the reason why stimulating ST36 and ST40 can treat similar diseases from the perspective of EEG, and also explain that stimulating GB37 has significantly different effects on the brain from that of ST36 and ST40.

Traditional evaluation of chiral pesticides can lead to inaccurate results, as their enantiomers may show different properties. Penconazole, a chiral triazole fungicide with two enantiomers, is widely applied to protect against phytopathogens. In this study, its absolute configuration, bioactivity, ecotoxicity, and stereoselective degradation were investigated at the enantiomeric level in detail. The absolute configuration of the two enantiomers (R-(+)-penconazole and S-(-)-penconazole) was first confirmed by electronic circular dichroism (ECD), and their enantioseparation method was developed and optimized using UPLC-MS/MS. S-(-)-penconazole showed high bioactivity, as its fungicidal activity against four target phytopathogens (Alternaria alternate f. sp. mali, Botryosphaeria berengeriana f. sp. piricola, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Fusarium oxysporum) was 1.8-4.4 times higher than that of R-(+)-penconazole. The results of an acute toxicity test showed that the LC50 values of S-(-)-penconazole against Daphnia magna were 32.5 times higher than those of R-(+)-penconazole at 24 h during the test period. Stereoselective degradation behaviors were found in nonbagging and bagging Fuji apples collected from three major apple-producing regions in China, with half-lives of 23.5-51.6 d (nonbagging treatment) and 23.0-57.5 d (bagging treatment) for R-(+)-penconazole and 41.1-60.9 d (nonbagging treatment) and 52.5-91.2 d (bagging treatment) for S-(+)-penconazole, respectively. This study provided new insights into the bioactivity, ecotoxicity, and stereoselective degradation of penconazole enantiomers. The above results also emphasized the importance of risk assessments of chiral pesticides at the enantiomeric level.

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a common pathogenic bacterium that induces a variety of diseases in humans and animals. The significant pathogenicity of S. aureus is due to its expression of several virulence factors. Alpha-hemolysin (Hla) has attracted attention as a virulence factor in staphylococcal pathogenesis and has been the predominant focus of intense research. In this study, we found that kaempferol, a flavonoid compound, inhibited hemolysis at a low concentration (32 µg/mL) and exerted no effect on bacterial growth. Western blot and RT-qPCR assays further demonstrated that kaempferol downregulated the expression of Hla in S. aureus. We observed that kaempferol alleviated the damage from S. aureus Hla in A549 cells. More importantly, kaempferol showed a potent protective effect on mice pneumonia induced by MRSA, as evidenced by a significant improvement in the survival of mice, a reduction in the number of colonized colonies in lung tissue and a decrease in the pathological damage to lung tissues. In summary, the results demonstrate the protective effect of kaempferol on MRSA-induced lethal pneumonia in mice and indicate that kaempferol could be developed as a potential anti-MRSA drug.

The monitoring of deferasirox (DEF) has important clinical roles in patients who need iron excretion. However, analytical methods with practicability and simplicity are limited. Moreover, ratiometric fluorescence strategies based on Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) from carbon dots (CDs) as a donor are rarely reported as a drug monitor. In this work, CDs with an appropriate emitting wavelength at 480 nm and excitation around 370 nm were prepared by hydrothermal approach and HCl post-treatment. O-Phenylenediamine (OPD) can be oxidized by Cu2+ to produce yellow fluorescent 2,3-diaminophenazine (oxOPD) in the system of Cu2+ and OPD (Cu-OPD). Correspondingly, a remarkable FRET from CDs to oxOPD in the system of CDs, Cu2+ and OPD (CDs-Cu-OPD) was fabricated with the quenching illustration of CDs, but emitting property of oxOPD. Attributed to the chelation ability of DEF on Cu2+, the inhibitory effects of DEF on the Cu2+-triggered oxidative capability reduced the FRET system by the decreased oxOPD. Thus, the recovered CDs at F 480 and decreased oxOPD at F 560 were found through a ratiometric mode by the addition of DEF in CDs-Cu-OPD for the DEF assay. The FRET behavior of CDs and oxOPD in CDs-Cu-OPD was proved clearly through the calculation of the association constant, binding constant, number of binding sites, and the distance between the donor and acceptor. Furthermore, this ratiometric method exhibited promising analytical performance for DEF with the application in real samples. The implementation of this work expands the application field of CDs and OPD oxidation in drug monitoring, and even other biological analyses through ratiometric strategy.

(1) Background: This study aims to find the sugar content of market beverages and estimate the sugar intake from beverages among students in Beijing. (2) Methods: Using snapshotting, we collected the sugar content of beverages through their packages or nutrition labels. Combined with the statistic of student beverage consumption, we estimated students' sugar intake. (3) Results: The median sugar content of total beverages was 9.0 g/100 mL, among which the fruits/vegetable juices and beverages had the highest sugar content (10.0 g/100 mL). Sugar content in most beverages in Beijing was generally higher than the recommendations, and fruit/vegetable juices and beverages exceeded the most. The median of sugar intake from beverages among students was 5.3 g/d, and the main sources were fruit/vegetable juices and beverages, protein beverages and carbonated beverages. Sugar intake from beverages differed according to gender, age and living area. Higher sugar intake was found among boys, older students and rural students. (4) Conclusions: Sugar content in market beverages in Beijing were high. Gender, age and residence were the influencing factors of sugar intake. Targeted measures should be taken to decrease the sugar content in beverages, especially the fruit/vegetable juices and beverages and the sugar intake among students.

This study aimed to determine the effects of genetically modified insect-resistant maize (2A-7) on the growth and development in developing rats. Rats were fed a diet formulated with 2A-7 maize and were compared with rats fed a diet formulated with non-transgenic maize (CK group) and rats fed AIN-93G diet (BC group). 2A-7 maize was formulated into diets at ratios of 82.4% (H group) and 20.6% (L group); non-transgenic maize was formulated into diets at a ratio of 82.4%. From the first day of pregnancy, adult rats were divided into four groups and fed with the above four diets, respectively. Weaning on postnatal day 21, the diets of offspring were consistent with their parents. The results showed that body weight, hematology, serum biochemistry, organ weight, organ coefficients and allergenicity of offspring fed with 2A-7 maize were comparable with those in the CK and BC groups. In physiological and behavioral development experiments, there was no statistically significant difference among groups. Although mCry1Ab proteins were detected in organs and serum, no histopathological changes were observed among groups. In conclusion, A-7 maize cause no treatment-related adverse effects on offspring, indicating that 2A-7 maize is safe for developing rats.

Lysogenic induction ends the stable association between a bacteriophage and its host, and the transition to the lytic cycle begins with early prophage excision followed by DNA replication and packaging (ERP). This temporal program is considered universal for P22-like temperate phages, though there is no direct evidence to support the timing and sequence of these events. Here we report that the long-standing ERP program is an observation of the experimentally favored Salmonella phage P22 tsc229 heat-inducible mutant, and that wild-type P22 actually follows the replication-packaging-excision (RPE) program. We find that P22 tsc229 excises early after induction, but P22 delays excision to just before it is detrimental to phage production. This allows P22 to engage in lateral transduction. Thus, at minimal expense to itself, P22 has tuned the timing of excision to balance propagation with lateral transduction, powering the evolution of its host through gene transfer in the interest of self-preservation.

Analyzing the influence of mixed emotional factors on false memory through brain function network is helpful to further explore the nature of brain memory. In this study, Deese-Roediger-Mc-Dermott (DRM) paradigm electroencephalogram (EEG) experiment was designed with mixed emotional memory materials, and different kinds of music were used to induce positive, calm and negative emotions of three groups of subjects. For the obtained false memory EEG signals, standardized low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography algorithm (sLORETA) was applied in the source localization, and then the functional network of cerebral cortex was built and analyzed. The results show that the positive group has the most false memories [(83.3 ± 6.8)%], the prefrontal lobe and left temporal lobe are activated, and the degree of activation and the density of brain network are significantly larger than those of the calm group and the negative group. In the calm group, the posterior prefrontal lobe and temporal lobe are activated, and the collectivization degree and the information transmission rate of brain network are larger than those of the positive and negative groups. The negative group has the least false memories [(73.3 ± 2.2)%], and the prefrontal lobe and right temporal lobe are activated. The brain network is the sparsest in the negative group, the degree of centralization is significantly larger than that of the calm group, but the collectivization degree and the information transmission rate of brain network are smaller than the positive group. The results show that the brain is stimulated by positive emotions, so more brain resources are used to memorize and associate words, which increases false memory. The activity of the brain is inhibited by negative emotions, which hinders the brain's memory and association of words and reduces false memory.

BACKGROUND: Hypotension is a common event in patients under general anesthesia during lumbar spine fusion surgery. The reduction of venous drainage followed by the postural changes is the main reason. The venous return reduced when the intrathoracic pressure is positive. Volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV) are two traditional ventilation modes in operating room, with different respiratory mechanics. The two ventilation modes have different influences on intrathoracic pressure and consequently venous return. A double-blinded, randomized, parallel group controlled clinical trial was conducted to examine the hemodynamic and respiratory effects of two different ventilation modes in lumbar spine fusion surgery. METHODS: Forty-eight patients scheduled for posterior lumbar spine fusion surgery at Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University were randomly allocated into two groups to receive either the VCV mode or PCV mode [vital volume (VT) 8 mL/kg, and partial pressure of end-tidal carbon dioxide (PETCO2) 35-45 mmHg]. The respiratory mechanics [peak airway pressure (Ppeak) and dynamic compliance (Cdyn)] and hemodynamic changes were measured every 10 min for 120 min. All participants and relevant staff were blinded to the randomization. RESULTS: The data of 19 of 22 patients in the VCV group and 18 of 20 in the PCV group were analyzed. Compared to VCV group, cardiac output (CO) and central venous pressure (CVP) in the PCV group were higher; however, the difference was not significant. There's no statistically difference in systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI) values of both the groups. The mean blood pressure (MBP) of the PCV group was higher than that of the VCV group from 90 min after the patients were turned to the prone position until the endpoint. The Cdyn and Ppeak of the PCV group were higher than those of the VCV group. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between Cdyn and CO (r=0.744, P=0.006). CONCLUSIONS: With better respiratory mechanic and hemodynamic stability, PCV was a better choice for patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion surgery. Analyzing the influence of emotion on false memory through electroencephalogram is helpful to further explore the cognition function of brain. In this study, material emotion and participant emotion were introduced into Deese-Roediger-McDermott (DRM) paradigm experiment at the same time, which made the experiment process closer to real life. Different music was used to induce the emotion of 28 participants, and they were divided into positive group and negative group. Then, we analyzed the difference between the two groups from the behavior data, source location and cortex functional network of event related potential. The results of difference analysis show that the false memory rate of positive group (85 ± 8.6%) is significantly higher than that of negative group (72 ± 9.7%), and the activation degree and voxel number of the positive group are significantly higher than those of the negative group in the brain regions related to semantic coding (BA24 and BA45), and the compactness, the speed of information transmission and the small-world property of the brain network in positive group are significantly higher than those in negative group. The above results show that in the positive group, more brain resources are used for semantic association when they judge keywords, which confuse the keywords and learning words, and result in more false memories.

Jie-Geng-Tang (JGT), a traditional formula, is employed in the treatment of sore throat and cough and comprises Platycodonis Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in the ratio 1 : 2. Our previous study demonstrated that JGT protected mice from S. aureus-induced acute lung injury (ALI). Five constituents of JGT showed antibacterial activities against S. aureus in vitro. However, the potential effective constituents of JGT in vivo were still unclear. In this study, the chemical constituents of JGT were identified by liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight spectrometry (LC-Q-TOF-MS). A total of 96 constituents were identified or assumed, including seven organic acids, 45 flavonoids, 36 triterpene saponins, and eight compounds of other types. The structures of 31 of the constituents were confirmed by comparing them with corresponding authentic standards. Moreover, 15 prototypes and 49 metabolites were deduced in the serums of mice, 24 prototypes and 47 metabolites were deduced in the lungs of mice after the oral administration of JGT. Three types of constituents, namely organic acids, flavonoids, and triterpene saponins, could be absorbed into the blood. Moreover, flavonoids and triterpene saponins were more likely distributed in the lung than in the blood. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the systematic metabolites profile of JGT in vivo. The results reported were beneficial to the elucidation of the effective material basis of JGT.

ABSTRACT: Precise volumetric evaluation of the alveolar cleft facilitates accurate preparation of bone substitutes and reduces donor site morbidity. This study investigates 2 advanced presurgical volumetric assessment methods that use computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans from 20 unilateral alveolar cleft patients undergoing secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) were analyzed by CAE software. Cleft defect volumes were calculated using the mirror-reversed technique and the subtraction method. The mirror-reversed technique determines defect volume by reversing the noncleft side to the cleft side. The subtraction method determines defect volume by subtracting a mask of the preoperative cleft from a mask generated after simulated cleft filling. The mean defect volumes and calculation times of the mirror-reversed technique (1.27 ±â€Š0.35 cm3; 11.80 ±â€Š1.79 seconds) and the subtractive method (1.23 ±â€Š0.32 cm3; 9.43 ±â€Š1.35 seconds) did not differ significantly. In Bland-Altman analysis the 2 methods were equivalent for alveolar cleft defect assessment. Both methods exhibited acceptable interobserver reliability, high precision, clinical convenience, time efficiency, and high reproducibility, and can serve as valuable tools for the planning and execution of SABG. The subtraction method has broader potential applicability and can simulate intraoperative bone grafting more effectively.

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal women tend to experience significant changes in left ventricular diastolic function (LVDF). However, there are conflicting reports about LVDF between postmenopausal women on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and those not on HRT. This meta-analysis is to evaluate the effects of HRT on LVDF in postmenopausal women. METHODS: We conducted a systemic review of randomized controlled trials published up to December 31 2019 using Embase, Pubmed, and the Cochrane library database. RESULTS: Eight studies involving 668 postmenopausal women were identified. Our analysis indicated that the ratio of the peak velocity during early filing to late filling from atrial contraction improvement in HRT group was better than that in placebo group (MD 0.20, 95%CI 0.12 to 0.28). There was a significant reduction in deceleration time and left ventricular mass index in HRT group compared with placebo group (MD -21.01, 95%CI -40.11 to -1.91 vs MD -8.26, 95%CI -14.10 to -2.42). No significant difference was observed in left ventricular end systole diameter (MD 0.80, 95%CI -0.72 to 2.31), left ventricular end diastole diameter (MD -0.07, 95%CI -1.25 to 1.10), left atrial size (MD -0.33, 95%CI -1.34 to 0.68)and the isovolumic relaxation time (MD -12.08, 95%CI -27.65 to 3.5). CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis illustrated that postmenopausal women seem to obtain more beneficial effects from HRT on LVDF, though future studies are required to elucidate the specific mechanisms for this phenomenon.

Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) and Trichoptera (caddisflies), belonging to the superorder Amphiesmenoptera, are the most diverse insect orders as representatives of the terrestrial and aquatic insects, respectively. The insects of the two orders possess different biological and behavioral characteristics, especially their larvae, presumably resulting in the differences of the ionotropic receptor (IR) genes in numbers, sequence characteristics or gene structure. Here, we employed genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, phylogenetics and molecular biology strategies to characterize the IR gene repertoire in Lepidoptera and Trichoptera. Genome and transcriptome analyses with exhaustive homology-based searches and manual efforts, in 32 lepidopterans and five trichopterans, led to the identification of 1449 genes encoding IRs with 1170 full-length sequences, representing the most comprehensive set of chemoreceptor superfamilies across the Amphiesmenoptera. Analysis of gene gains and losses in orthologous groups implied that some IRs were lost in related species, and multiple gene copies occurred mainly in divergent IRs (D-IRs) by gene duplications. Phylogenetic analysis of 2442 IR proteins from 67 species revealed that Lepidoptera and Trichoptera IRs could be classified into three subfamilies, i.e., 14 antennal IRs (A-IRs), five Lepidoptera-specific IRs (LS-IRs) and four D-IRs. Of the three subfamilies, A-IRs and LS-IRs members within orthologous groups exhibited high conservation of gene structure, but D-IRs shared extremely low amino acid identities (below 30%). Expression profiles revealed functional diversities of IRs from Bombyx mori and Papilio xuthus involving smell, taste or reproduction, in which some genes displayed sex-biased expression in antennae associated with specific chemosensory behaviors of female or male adults. Our current study has provided insights into the evolution, conservation and divergence of IRs between/within Lepidoptera and Trichoptera, and allows for further experiments to investigate IR functions.

BACKGROUND: Blepharoplasty has become one of the most popular plastic surgery techniques for generating double-eyelid folds. The mini-incision blepharoplasty technique results in minimal trauma and the formation of supratarsal folds. METHODS: In this study, the authors combined mini-incisions with interrupted buried sutures. To perform the blepharoplasty procedure, the authors marked the supratarsal folds and divided them into 5 line segments: 3 cutting lines and 2 noncutting lines. For the cutting lines, the authors used orbicularis-tarsus fixation to form double eyelids and only removed a small strip of muscle under the incision to maintain the physiological structure of the pretarsal tissue. For the noncutting lines, the authors used the interrupted buried suture technique to add 2 fixed points. RESULTS: A total of 42 patients (mean age 25.25 years) underwent this minimally invasive blepharoplasty. Among these patients, 42 underwent bilateral surgery. The average follow-up period was 35.91 months (range: 13-47 months). Only one patient underwent a second operation to address a shallow, unilateral supratarsal crease. Nonetheless, all patients were satisfied with their results. CONCLUSION: Our minimally invasive blepharoplasty approach resulted in minimal damage to the pretarsal tissues and robust supratarsal folds and is relatively easy to perform for the novice surgeon. The aim of this retrospective study is to determine the predictive factors of postoperative dyspnea in infants with Pierre Robin sequence (PRS). Forty children with PRS, who underwent general anesthesia, were retrospectively analyzed. The patient's physiological status and anesthesiology data were collected accordingly, demographic characteristics including age, gender, height and weight at surgery, weight gain, preoperative airway status, tracheal intubation route, American Society of Anesthesiologists grading and airway Cormack-Lehane classification. Weight gain, dyspnea before the operation, Cormack-Lehane grade distribution showed a significant difference between patients with and without postoperative dyspnea (p = 0.0175, p = 0.0026, and p = 0.0038, respectively). Incompetent weight gain was identified as a predictor (p = 0.0371) of PRS postoperative dyspnea through the binary logistic regression model. In conclusion, this study established an early alerting model by monitoring the weight gain, dyspnea before the operation, Cormack-Lehane grade as potential combinations to predict the risk of postoperative dyspnea for PRS.

Reversing left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) can reduce the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events. However, there is no clear superiority-inferiority differentiation between angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), beta-blockers (BB), calcium channel blockers (CCB), and diuretics in reversing LVH in hypertensive patients. To provide further evidence for choosing the optimal antihypertensive drug for improving LVH, we performed a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) based on the Cochrane library database, Embase, and Pubmed, and identified 49 studies involving 5402 patients that were eligible for inclusion. It was found that ARB could improve LVH in hypertensive patients more effectively than CCB (MD -4.07, 95%CI -8.03 to -0.24) and BB (MD -4.57, 95%CI -8.07 to -1.12). Matched comparison of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi) showed that the effect of ACEI in reducing left ventricular mass index (LVMi) was not effective as that of ARB (MD -3.72, 95%CI -7.52 to -0.11). The surface under the cumulative ranking for each intervention indicated that the use of ARB was more effective among the different types of antihypertensive drugs (97%). This network meta-analysis revealed that the use of ARB in antihypertensive therapy could achieve better efficacy in reversing LVH in hypertensive patients.
