RESUMO

So far, liver cancer is still a highly malignant tumor with a high incidence rate in China, and it seriously affects the life and health of Chinese people. Previous studies have shown that the development of liver cancer is associated with various factors such as virus, smoking, drinking, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. With continuous exploration, more and more studies have pointed out that nutritional factors and living environment are associated with the development and progression of liver cancer. Folic acid is a necessary nutrient for cell growth and reproduction, and its level in human body has an impact on the growth of tumor cells and is closely associated with liver cancer. This article reviews the research advances in the association between folic acid and liver cancer in recent years, so as to provide new reference and basis for the prevention and treatment of liver cancer.

RESUMO

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has claimed millions of lives worldwide, not to mention innumerable losses in the global economy and disruptions in social relationships. Unfortunately, state-of-the-art treatments still lag behind the fast emergence of new variants of concern. The key to resolve this issue is to develop broad-spectrum antivirals with innovative antiviral mechanisms in which coronaviruses are deactivated regardless of their variant development. Herein, we report a new antiviral strategy involving extracellular disintegration of viral proteins that are indispensable for viral infection with hyperanion-grafted enediyne molecules. The sulfate groups ensure low cellular permeability and rather low cytotoxicity of the molecules, while the core enediyne generates reactive radical species and causes significant damage to the spike (S) protein of coronavirus. The enediyne compounds exhibit antiviral activity at micromolar to nanomolar concentrations, and the selectivity index of up to 20,000 against four kinds of human coronaviruses, including the SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant, suggesting the high potential of this new strategy in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMO

mRNA vaccines have emerged as a most promising and potent platform in the fight against various diseases including the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the intrinsic instability, varying side effects associated with the delivery systems, and continuous emergence of virus variants highlight the urgent need for the development of stable, safe and efficacious mRNA vaccines. In this study, by screening a panel of proprietary biodegradable ionizable lipidoids, we reported on a novel mRNA vaccine (cmRNA-1130) formed from a biodegradable lipidoid with eight ester bonds in the branched tail (AX4) and synthetic circular mRNA (cmRNA) encoding the trimeric Delta receptor binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein for the induction of robust immune activation. The AX4-based lipid nanoparticles (AX4-LNP) revealed much faster elimination rate from liver and spleen in comparison with commercialized MC3-based LNP (MC3-LNP) and afforded normal level of alanine transferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and creatinine (CRE) in BALB/c mice. Following intramuscular (IM) administration in BALB/c mice, cmRNA-1130 elicited potent and sustained neutralizing antibodies, RBD-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T effector memory cells (Tem), and Th1-biased T cell activations. cmRNA-1130 vaccine showed excellent stability against 6-month storage at 4 {degrees}C and freezing-thawing cycles. In brief, our study highlights mRNA vaccines based on cmRNA and biodegradable AX4 lipids hold great potential as superb therapeutic platforms for the treatment of varying diseases.

RESUMO

Objective To compare the advantages and disadvantages of 3D BRAVO and TRICKS for detecting cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and to explore the MR scanning methods on CVST.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 40 patients who were diagnosed with CVST in the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January 2011 to June,2014.All the patients underwent TRICKS scan and 3D BRAVO examination and were classified into 3 groups based on dural venous sinuses, deep cerebral vein and superficial cerebral vein.Detection rates of TRICKS and BRAVO were evaluated and the results were analyzed.Result Detection rates of dural venous sinuses by TRICKS and BRAVO were 98.0% and 100% respectively.Detection rates of deep cerebral vein were 92.9% and 100% respectively. No significant difference was found (P>0.05).Detection rates of superficial cerebral vein were 66.7% and 100% respectively.Significant difference was found between the two (P<0.05) Conclusion BRAVO technology can clearly demonstrate the details of CVST,especially in superficial cerebral vein. With the combination use of TRICKS sequences,it will be of higher diagnostic value.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the bronchoscopic features of endobronchial tuberculosis induced by lymphatic fistula and the efficacy of interventional treatment. Methods The data on 31 patients with endobronchial tuberculosis induced by lymphatic fistula who had received bronchoscopic diagnosis and treatment in our hospital during the period of January 2010 to June 2013 were reviewed. The bronchoscopic features , along with the frequency of interventional therapies and duration of the therapies , were retrospectively analyzed; and the efficacy of the therapies and the related complications were assessed. Rusults The endoscopic appearance showed: granuloma (19.4%), necrosis (51.6%), granuloma with necrosis (25.8%), and fistulous opening (3.2%). Dark gray matter or carbon deposition inside the lesions was the characteristics of endobronchial tuberculosis induced by lymphatic fistula. There were 76 orificium fistulae in 31 patients , mostly in the right side. The median frequency of treatment was five in patients with single orificium fistulae and the median treatment duration was 65 days; whereas the median frequency of treatment was nine in patients with multiple fistulae and the median treatment duration was 108 days. There were significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.05 for both comparisons). The effectiveness rate of treatment was 98.7%. The therapy-related complication was of a small amount of bleeding, with a rate of 2.1%. Conlusions Endobronchial tuberculosis induced by lymphatic fistula shows certain characteristics under bronchoscopic examination. Bronchoscopic clamping combined with infusions with antituberculosis agents is a safe, simple, effective therapeutic method.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of bronchoscopic MMC topical spraying for the treatment of tuberculous cicatricial stenosis of the central airway. Methods 45 patients with t tuberculous cicatricial stenosis of the central airway were randomly divided into a control group (14 patients), treatment group 1 (group1, 15 patients), or treatment group 2 (group 2, 16 patients), who received bronchial balloon dilatation alone, bronchial balloon dilatation combined with topical MMC spraying for one time, and for twice, respectively . The clinical efficacy was observed by using the MRC score and measuring airway diameter at the time points before treatment, end of treatment, and 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment, respectively. Results For the MRC scores at different time points, the MRC scores in group 2 (0.06 ± 0.25) and group 1 (0.33 ± 0.617) were significantly lower than those in the control group at 3 months after treatment (P 0.05). Conclusions Bronchial balloon dilatation combined with topical MMC spraying has certain short-term and long-term efficacy for improving dyspnea and maintaining the airway diameter after dilatation.
