RESUMO

Heteroatom-doped graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications as luminescent materials and in biology. In this work, we developed a solvent-free gram-scale mechanochemical method for the preparation of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) with the highest solubility (31 mg mL-1) in water reported to date. Commercial graphite was sheared and cut through grinding with solid melamine and then ground with solid KOH to get sub-5 nm-sized, 1-3-layered N-GQDs. Notably, these N-GQDs exhibit white-light emission and broad excitation-dependent full-color photoluminescence from 463 nm to 672 nm. When the excitation light ranged from 325 nm to 485 nm, these mechanochemically obtained N-GQDs exhibited bright white-light emission. Intriguingly, the change in the emission wavelength has two-stage linear relationships with the change in the excitation wavelength, and the inflection point is at 580 nm (excited at 550 nm). The difference between the emission and excitation wavelengths decreases from 138 to 12 nm, which also shows two-stage linear relationships with the change in the excitation wavelength. It is notable that their PL quantum yields are high, up to 26.6%. Furthermore, we studied the inhibitory effect of as-obtained N-GQDs on bladder cancer cells (UMUC-3); as a result, with the increase of the concentration of N-GQDs, the proliferation of cancer cells was obviously prohibited.

Recently, sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have been studied extensively for the removal of pollutants, however, few researches focused on the activation of bisulfite by nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI), especially, surface reaction mechanism and sulfate radical-mediated degradation pathway have not been elucidated in detail. In this study, influencing factors, the kinetics, transformation pathway and mechanism of triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) degradation in the nZVI/bisulfite system were systematically discussed. Compared with Fe2+, nZVI was found to be a more efficient and long-lasting activator of bisulfite via gradual generation of iron ions. The optimal degradation efficiency of TPHP (98.2%) and pseudo-first-order kinetics rate constant (kobs = 0.2784 min-1) were obtained by using 0.5 mM nZVI and 2.0 mM bisulfite at the initial pH 3.0. Both Cl- and NO3- inhibited the degradation of TPHP and the inhibitory effect of Cl- was stronger than that of NO3- due to the higher reaction rate of Cl- with •SO4-. Furthermore, SEM, XRD and XPS characterization revealed that a thin passivation layer (Fe2O3, Fe3O4, FeOOH) deposited on the surface of fresh nZVI and a few iron corrosion products generated and assembled on the surface of reacted nZVI. Radical quenching tests identified that •SO4- was the dominant reactive oxidative species (ROS) for TPHP removal. Based on HRMS analysis, six degradation products were determined and a sulfate radical-mediated degradation pathway was proposed. In a word, this study revealed that the nZVI/bisulfite system had a great potential for the TPHP elimination in waterbody.

Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs), one kind of emerging flame retardants, have received prevalent attention owing to their ubiquity in aquatic matrices and their characteristics of being refractory to biodegradation. In current research, the degradation mechanism of tris-(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP), one of OPFRs, and its toxicological evaluation using UV-driven hydroxyl radical oxidation were investigated. A pseudo-first order reaction was fitted with an apparent rate constant (Kobs) of 0.1328 min-1 on transformation of TCPP in the case of CH2O2 0.1 mM, pH 6.6-7.1 and 4.7 mW cm-2 UV irradiation. High resolution mass spectroscopy analyses identified nine degradation products (eg., C6H13Cl2O4P (m/z 251.0002), C9H17Cl2O5P (m/z 307.0266), C9H17Cl2O6P (m/z 323.0217), C9H18Cl3O5P (m/z 343.0033)) during transformation of TCPP. The removal efficiency dropped by inhibitory effect of natural organic matters and anions, implying that the complete mineralization of TCPP may be difficult in actual water treatment process. The toxicity assessment has shown an decrease in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptosis, membrane potential (MP) elevation of Escherichia coli, and biological molecular function revision (eg., metabolism and DNA biosynthesis), indicating that toxicity of degradation products were conspicuously decreased in comparison with intact TCPP. To sum up, effective detoxification of TCPP can be realized by a UV driving radical-based oxidation, which will provide an alternative safe treatment method to control TCPP in water matrix.

The spectral absorption coefficient of pure seawater (aw(λ)) in published studies differ significantly in the blue domain, yet the impacts of such discrepancies on the inherent optical properties (IOPs) derived from ocean color have been scarcely documented. In this study, we confirm that changes in aw(λ) may have significant impacts on retrieved IOPs in oligotrophic waters, especially for the phytoplankton absorption coefficient (aph(λ)). Two sets of aw(λ) data, aw_PF97 (Appl. Opt. 36, 8710, 1997) and aw_Lee15 (Appl. Opt. 54, 546, 2015), were selected for optical inversion analysis. It is found that aph(λ) retrieved with aw_Lee15 agree better with the in-situ measurements in oligotrophic waters. Further applications to satellite images show that the derived aph(λ) using aw_Lee15 can be up to 238% higher than the retrievals using aw_PF97 in the core zone of the subtropical ocean gyres. Given that aw_PF97 is commonly accepted as the "standard" aw(λ) by the ocean color community in the past decades, this study highlights the need and importance to update aw(λ) with aw_Lee15 for IOPs retrievals in oligotrophic waters.

BACKGROUND: The association of dietary patterns with constipation is not well established, particularly in Chinese population. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and the risk of constipation in a middle-aged Chinese population. METHODS: A total of 2267 participants aged 45-59 years were recruited in Hangzhou city, the capital of Zhejiang Province, east China from August 2016 to October 2018. Dietary intake was estimated using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) containing 138 food items. Constipation was defined using the Rome II criteria. Multivariate logistic regression was used to examine the association between dietary patterns and the risk of constipation. RESULTS: Three major dietary patterns were extracted by factor analysis and labeled as the traditional southern Chinese, Western and grains-vegetables patterns. The prevalence of constipation in our study population was 13.28%. Compared with the participants in the lowest quartile, the participants in the highest quartile of the traditional southern Chinese pattern were associated with reduced odds of constipation (odd ratios (OR) = 0.79; 95%confidence interval (CI): 0.626-0.981; P < 0.05), after adjusting for confounding variables. In contrast, we found no significant associations between the Western and grains-vegetables patterns and the risk of constipation (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that the traditional southern Chinese pattern was associated with a reduced risk of constipation. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm our findings.

To identify independent factors associated with prolonged hospital length of stay (LOS) in elderly patients undergoing first-time elective open posterior lumbar fusion surgery.We retrospectively analyzed the data of 303 elderly patients (age range: 60-86 years) who underwent first-time elective open lumbar posterior fusion surgery at our center from December 2012 to December 2017. Preoperative and perioperative variables were extracted and analyzed for all patients, and multivariate stepwise regression analysis was used to determine the variables affecting the LOS and important predictors of LOS prolongation (P < .001).The mean age of the patients was 67.0 ±â€Š5.5 years, and the mean LOS was 18.5 ±â€Š11.8 days, ranging from 7 to 103 days. Of the total, 166 patients (54.8%) were men and 83 patients (27.4%) had extended LOS. Multiple linear regression analysis determined that age (P < .001), preoperative waiting time ≥7 days (P < .001), pulmonary comorbidities (P = .010), and diabetes (P = .010) were preoperative factors associated with LOS prolongation. Major complications (P = .002), infectious complications (P = .001), multiple surgeries (P < .001), and surgical bleeding (P = .018) were perioperative factors associated with LOS prolongation. Age (P < .001), preoperative waiting time ≥7 days (P < .001), infectious complications (P < .001), and multiple surgeries (P < .001) were important predictors of LOS prolongation.Extended LOS after first-time elective open posterior lumbar fusion surgery in elderly patients is associated with factors including age, preoperative waiting time, infectious complications, and multiple surgeries. Surgeons should recognize and note these relevant factors while taking appropriate precautions to optimize the modifiable factors, thereby reducing the LOS as well as hospitalization costs.

RATIONALE: Liposarcomas are locally invasive mesenchymal soft tissue tumors; most deep liposarcomas are large. Liposarcomas have heterogeneous histomorphology, molecular and genetic characteristics, and clinical prognosis, making the diagnosis and treatment of giant liposarcomas difficult for bone tumor surgeons. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 70-year-old man presented with a mass in the posterior part of his left lower extremity that was first noticed 3 years prior. The mass was initially fist sized but continued to grow and had been affecting lower limb mobility on presentation. DIAGNOSES: Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large space-occupying lesion in the left thigh muscles, which was identified as a low-grade malignant tumor. Postoperative pathology results confirmed the diagnosis of atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDLPS). INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent open surgery to completely remove the tumor tissue and relieve pain. OUTCOMES: At the 10-month follow-up appointment, the patient had recovered well, function of the lower extremities had returned to normal, and no signs of recurrence or metastasis were noted. LESSONS: Although ALT/WDLPS is a locally invasive tumor with good prognosis, delayed treatment is associated with increased tumor size, which can affect lower limb mobility. Therefore, we believe that extensive surgical resection of tumor tissue is a suitable treatment for all ALT/WDLPS cases in order to avoid possible local recurrence. In addition, for ALT/WDLPS tumors that are difficult to extensively excise, long-term follow-ups are necessary due to the possibility of recurrence.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical guidelines have recommended a target of serum uric acid (SUA) level below 6.0 mg/dL for the urate-lowering therapy (ULT) of gout patients, but there are still a high proportion of patients failing to achieve the therapeutic target above. This study aimed to identify possible predictors of poor response to ULT in gout patients. METHODS: We performed a post-hoc analysis of a multicenter randomized double-blind trial which assessed the efficacy of febuxostat in patients with hyperuricemia (serum urate level ≥ 8.0 mg/dL) and gout. Demographic characters and baseline data including SUA levels were collected. Poor response to ULT was defined as average SUA after ULT was more than 6.0 mg/dL. Factors associated with poor response to ULT in gout patients were analyzed, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was also carried out to find out those independent predictors. RESULTS: A total of 370 patients were enrolled in this post-hoc analysis. Compared with those with good response to ULT, patients with poor response to ULT had younger age (P < 0.001), higher proportion of obesity (P = 0.003), higher proportion of statins use (P = 0.019), higher body mass index (BMI) (P < 0.001), higher baseline SUA (P < 0.001), higher proportion of males (P = 0.001), higher alanine transaminase (P < 0.001), higher aspartate transaminase (P = 0.017), higher total cholesterol (P = 0.005), higher triglyceride (P = 0.042), and higher low density lipoprotein (P = 0.037). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that younger age (odds ratio (OR) = 0.965, 95% CI 0.943-0.987, P = 0.002), higher BMI (OR = 1.133, 95% CI 1.049-1.224, P = 0.001), higher baseline SUA (OR = 1.006, 95% CI 1.002-1.009, P = 0.001), and no application of febuxostat therapy (OR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.25-0.68, P < 0.001) were independent predictors of poor response to ULT in patients with gout. CONCLUSION: In patients with gout and hyperuricemia, younger age, higher BMI, and higher baseline SUA are predictors of poor response to ULT. These findings could help physicians better identify patients who may fail in ULT and give individualized treatment precisely. Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) were frequently detected in biotic and abiotic matrix owing to their persistence and recalcitrant degradation. Some specific OPFRs, such as tris-(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP), pose a significant potential risk to human health due to their high water solubility. Therefore, an environmentally sound and high efficient technique is in urgent need of controlling TCPP. This research is focused on degrading TCPP using ultraviolet-persulfate (UV/PS) technique. The degradation reaction of TCPP followed a pseudo-first order kinetics with an apparent rate constant (kobs) at 0.1653 min-1. As the photocatalytic reaction proceeded, TCPP was transformed to twelve degradation intermediates via the selective electron-transfer reactions induced by activated sulfate radical. Anions existence and pH value significantly inhibited the degradation efficiency, implying that it was hard for TCPP to reach up to complete mineralization in actual water treatment process. Additionally, toxicological assessment of degradation intermediate mixture was conducted using Flow cytometry (FCM) analyses, and the result showed that the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell apoptotic rates significantly declined, and membrane potential (MP) increased in comparison with original TCPP. On the other hand, the negative impacts of these degradation products on DNA biosynthesis in Escherichia coli were weakened based on cell cycle analysis, all of which indicated that toxicity of these degradation intermediates was obviously reduced via UV/PS treatment. To summarize, an appropriate mineralization is effective for TCPP detoxification, suggesting the feasibility of TCPP control using UV/PS treatment in water matrix.

Saikosaponin D (Ssd) is a major active ingredient derived from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Bupleurum falcatum, and SP600125 is a specific inhibitor of JNK that competes with adenosine triphosphate. In this study, we co-analyzed cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion in U-2OS osteosarcoma cells treated with Ssd and SP600125 alone or in combination. Cell death and signaling were analyzed using western blotting and flow cytometry. We observed dramatic inhibition of cellular proliferation, invasion, and migration in cells treated with Ssd alone or in combination with SP600125. Ssd, alone or in combination with SP600125, enhanced Cytochrome C release, increased the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, and activated caspase-3, -8 and -9, indicating that cellular apoptosis was induced via both the mitochondrial and death receptor pathways. The effect of SP600125 alone on U2 cells was not significant. Additional evaluation of Mcl-1, Akt, p-Akt, ERK, and p-ERK supported an anti-tumor effect of Ssd, which was enhanced in combination with SP600125. This study provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of osteosarcoma with Ssd alone or in combination with SP600125.

Osteosarcoma is a common primary malignant tumor of bone, and the poor prognosis and low 5-year survival rate have not improved for three decades. The present study aimed to study the effect a combination of celastrol and cisplatin on the human osteosarcoma cell line U-2OS, and to investigate the mechanism by which celastrol/cisplatin induces the apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells. MTT and Annexin V-FITC/PI assays were used to evaluate the effects of combined celastrol/cisplatin on growth and apoptosis, respectively, in U-2OS cells. Morphological changes accompanying cell growth inhibition were observed using a fluorescence microscope. Combination index (CI) analysis was used to evaluate the combinatorial effects of celastrol/cisplatin treatment. Western blotting was used to quantify the expression of apoptosis-associated proteins. It was identified that celastrol/cisplatin inhibited the growth of U-2OS cells in a dose-dependent manner. CI analysis revealed that combined celastrol/cisplatin demonstrated a synergistic effect in U-2OS cells, with CIs ranging from 0.80 to 0.97 at effect levels from IC10 to IC70. In addition, it was observed that celastrol/cisplatin upregulated the expression of Bcl-associated X protein, cytochrome c, caspase-3 and C/EBP homologous protein, and downregulated the expression of Bcl-2, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase, 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein and caspase-9, whereas the expression of caspase-8 remained unchanged. To conclude, celastrol/cisplatin induced apoptosis in U-2OS cells via the mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum pathways, particularly in the former. Celastrol/cisplatin therefore exhibits potential as a novel therapeutic combination for the treatment of osteosarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in reproductive-age women. Multiple susceptible gene as well as environmental factors and their interaction each other are contributed to the PCOS risk. Several case-control studies have researched the associations of the vitamin D receptor gene (VDR) polymorphisms with PCOS susceptibility, but the jury is still out. Here, we carried out a meta-analysis to clarify polymorphisms between ApaI (C/A) (rs7975232), BsmI (G/A) (rs1544410), FokI (C/T) (rs10735810), TaqI (T/C) (rs731236) and Tru9I (G/A) (rs757343) in the VDR gene and PCOS susceptibility based on relative lager sample size. METHODS: English database of PubMed and Embase, and Chinese database of Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were retrivaled for the relationship between VDR gene variates and PCOS susceptibility published before 31th, May 2018. Crude odds ratios (ORs) and its 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) in different comparisons were used to detected the strength of the association. All the statistical analyses of the present meta-analysis were performed by STATA version 12.0 software. RESULTS: Totally, 3587 (PCOS group 1922; control group 1665) participants from 13 studies were included which met our inclusion criteria. A statistically significant association between VDR ApaI (rs7975232) polymorphism and PCOS susceptibility (C vs. A: OR = 1.19, 95%CI = 1.06~1.34, P = 0.004) was found in the overall population. After stratified by ethnicity, we showed that there is a significant association between VDR ApaI (rs7975232) polymorphism and susceptibility to PCOS in the Asian (C vs. A: OR = 1.21, 95%CI = 1.04~1.42, P = 0.016) population, but this association was not found in the Caucasian population. Additionally, a significant relationship between VDR BsmI (rs1544410) variates with PCOS susceptibility in the Asian (G vs. A: OR = 1.27, 95%CI = 1.06~1.53, P = 0.011) population, but this association was not found in the Caucasian population. We didn't find any association between VDR FokI (rs2228570), VDR TaqI (rs731236), VDR Tru9I (rs757343) and PCOS susceptibility in the overall and the subgroup populations. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrated that VDR ApaI (rs7975232) and VDR BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphisms are correlated with susceptibility to PCOS in the Asian population and VDR TaqI (rs731236), VDR FokI (rs2228570), VDR Tru9I (rs757343) did not reveal a relationship with the PCOS susceptibility.

To monitor low-level radioxenon isotopes activity concentrations in the bulk gases, a radioxenon sampling, separation and measurement system has been developed. The xenon enrichment factor of this system is more than 105 after the separation of impurities, including N2, O2, CO2and H2O, as well as radon and its progenies, such as 214Pb and 214Bi. Since radon and its progenies interfere with radioxenon measurement, they have to be removed before radioxenon counting. To separate radon from xenon, different dynamic adsorption coefficients of xenon and radon are used to design small radon removal trap to retain radon after eluting xenon, and the ratio between radon and xenon dynamic adsorption coefficient gives the adsorbent weight relationship between the xenon adsorption trap and its related radon removal trap. To test the effectiveness of radon removal, the relative measuring method is used by measuring γ-rays energies of radon progenies in canister filling with either the measuring sample prepared by the system or the original gas. The results show that the radon removal coefficient and the stable xenon recovery, which are two important parameters in the radioxenon system, are at the order of 10-6 and >70% respectively. These meet the specifications proposed by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.

Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are frequently detected in indoor environment at high levels, posing health risks to humans. However, the potential cytotoxicity mediated by OPFRs and BFRs in relevant human cell models is limited. In current study, non-small cell lung cancer A549 cell was employed to investigate toxicity mechanisms of typical OPFRs (i.e., tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tris-(2-chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP), tricresy phosphate (TCP), triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) and BFRs (i.e., 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47), 3,3', 5,5'-tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)). It was found that BDE-47 exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity, followed by TBBPA, TPHP, TCP, TCPP and TCEP. OPFRs and BFRs could cause the reduction of cell viability of A549 cell in both dose- and time-dependent manner after exposure for 24 and 48 h. Simultaneously, excessive generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) dysfunction, cell apoptosis and overload of intracellular free Ca2+ demonstrated that cytotoxicity induced by OPFRs and BFRs were mediated by oxidative stress. Of note, the survival rate of cell significantly increased when pretreated with Ac-DEVD-CHO, suggesting that caspase-3 dependent mitochondrial pathway may have played a primary role in the process of A549 cell apoptosis.

RATIONALE: Periprosthetic osteolysis secondary to septic loosening and aseptic loosening is a well-described phenomenon associated with artificial hip arthroplasty. Periprosthetic bone loss as a result of metastatic infiltration is an uncommon cause of early, progressive loosening of joint replacement prosthesis and is rarely described in the literature. PATIENT CONCERNS: The present study describes a 70-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma 5 years after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and developed a metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma in the periprosthetic neosynovial tissue 1 year after formal chemotherapy. The main complaint was hip pain with limited activity for about 3 months. DIAGNOSES: Expansive bone destruction and periprosthetic osteolysis at the right femoral trochanter were identified through X-ray and Tc bone scan. The diagnosis of pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma metastasis was finally confirmed on the basis of postoperative pathological examination. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent open surgery with proximal femoral prosthesis revision and tumor prosthesis resection to completely remove the tumor tissue and relieve pain. OUTCOMES: The patient was completely relieved of pain at discharge 2 weeks after surgery and experienced no complications. However, the patient died of respiratory failure due to disease progression 3 months after surgery. LESSONS: We believe that clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion and consider metastatic disease in differential diagnosis of cases of aseptic loosening, particularly if the patient has a history of malignant disease and the osteolytic lesion involves the outer cortex. In addition, patients with a known history of malignancy should be screened with a pre-operative bone scan to rule out any metastatic infiltration and regularly followed up at short intervals to detect any early bone loss.

BACKGROUND: An osteoblastoma is a rare benign bone tumor characterized by formation of osteoid tissue and primitive bone and occurs more often in men than in women. They are often secondary to an osteoid osteoma and can be located at any site on the skeleton. Lesions generally involve the posterior elements of the spine, such as the pedicle and the lamina. CASE PRESENTATION: This study reports the case of a 25-year-old female who suffered from an osteoblastoma of the right sacrum with repeated swelling and pain in the right lumbosacral region for approximately 6 months. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pelvis revealed a segmented, expansive, multiseptate lesion. Resection with wide margins was performed and a huge cavity of approximately 15â€¯× 8â€¯× 4.4 cm in the right sacrum and pelvis was formed after complete curettage of the tumor. The pathological analysis of the resected tissue was consistent with a benign osteoblastoma. A follow-up was performed 2 years later and the patient was eventually relieved of the pain, the mobility of the right leg was improved and the CT scan demonstrated no evidence of recurrence. CONCLUSION: Osteoblastomas most commonly occur in the spine but rarely also in the sacrum. Large core needle biopsies play an important role in the diagnostics. Intralesional surgery can be performed for treatment of osteoblastomas.

BACKGROUND Juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (JALS) is a rare form of motor neuron disease and occurs before 25 years of age. Only a few cases of juvenile-onset ALS have been reported. MATERIAL AND METHODS To study genetic and clinicopathological features in Chinese patients with juvenile ALS, we retrospectively reviewed ALS patients in our hospital and screened out 2 patients with disease onset before the age of 25. Genetic analysis was carried out with next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify ALS causative genes. Sanger sequencing was used to validate identified variants. The clinical, electrophysiological, and pathological data were summarized. RESULTS A novel frameshift mutation c.1510dupG (p.G505Wfs*12) was found in Patient One using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Patient Two had a reported pathogenic mutation c.C1483T(p.R495X) with NGS. The mother of Patient Two carried the same mutation as her son and disease onset was at 1.5 years after the death of her son. CONCLUSIONS We identified a novel frameshift mutation associated with JALS. JALS and generally typical ALS, with the same FUS mutation, can appear in a family and present a phenomenon of anticipation. For diagnosis of central nervous system degeneration in adolescents with bulbar symptoms, great attention should be paid to JALS.

Successfully detecting, analyzing, and reasoning about collective anomalies is important for many real-life application domains (e.g., intrusion detection, fraud analysis, software security). The primary challenges to achieving this goal include the overwhelming number of low-risk events and their multimodal relationships, the diversity of collective anomalies by various data and anomaly types, and the difficulty in incorporating the domain knowledge of experts. In this paper, we propose the novel concept of the faceted High-Order Correlation Graph (HOCG). Compared with previous, low-order correlation graphs, HOCG achieves better user interactivity, computational scalability, and domain generality through synthesizing heterogeneous types of objects, their anomalies, and the multimodal relationships, all in a single graph. We design elaborate visual metaphors, interaction models, and the coordinated multiple view based interface to allow users to fully unleash the visual analytics power of the HOCG. We conduct case studies for three application domains and collect feedback from domain experts who apply our method to these scenarios. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the HOCG in the overview of point anomalies, the detection of collective anomalies, and the reasoning process of root cause analyses.

The utility of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) for evaluating hand joint lesions in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in clinical remission is unreported. This study aimed to compare SMI and power Doppler imaging (PDI) for the evaluation of hand joint lesions in these patients. Twenty-six patients with RA in clinical remission were enrolled. A total of 572 joints (52 wrist, 260 proximal interphalangeal, and 260 metacarpophalangeal joints) were detected by SMI and PDI. A semi-quantitative scale of 0-3 was used to compare the detection of synovial blood flow signal by SMI and PDI. Inter-observer agreement for the assessment of SMI and PDI scores was measured with kappa values. In the ten healthy volunteers, SMI and PDI signals were both scored 0. In the 26 RA patients, the remission rate via PDI was 65.4% but was only 42.3% via SMI. SMI also detected microvessel flow signal in seven patients diagnosed with clinical remission via PDI. Moreover, a total of 106 blood flow signals (18.5%) were detected by SMI, while 50 blood flow signals (8.7%) were detected by PDI. Compared with PDI, SMI increased 18.0% of power flow signals from Grade 0-1 and increased 13.7% of power flow signals from Grade 1-2. One joint classified as Grade 1 by PDI was classified as Grade 0 by SMI. Inter-observer agreement for PDI and SMI semi-quantitative scoring was moderate (kappa = 0.463). SMI seems more sensitive than PDI for detecting hand joint lesions in RA in clinical remission PDI, and could aid the achievement of true remission in RA patients.

A biopolymer membrane chitosan-collagen/organomontmorillonite loaded with Callicarpa nudiflora (CS-COL/CN-OMMT) was prepared as a wound dressing. Three composite membranes including chitosan-collagen (CS-COL), chitosan-collagen/montmorillonite (CS-COL/MMT) and chitosan-collagen/organomontmorillonite (CS-COL/OMMT) were studied from physicochemical, swelling ratio, degradation ratio in vitro and moisture permeability properties. The CS-COL/OMMT composite membrane with porous layered structure exhibited a significantly higher swelling ratio, lower degradation ratio and rather excellent moisture permeability properties than other membranes. Callicarpa nudiflora were loaded on CS-COL/OMMT composite membrane to improve antibacterial activity from 20.20 ±â€¯0.50% to 68.60 ±â€¯0.10%.
