This study aimed to determine the effect of applying stimulatory agents to liquid cultured Inonotus obliquus on the simultaneous accumulation of exo-polysaccharides (EPS) and their monosaccharide composition. Different stimulatory agents (VB6, VB1, betulin and birch extract) were investigated for their effects on active exo-polysaccharides by submerged fermentation of I. obliquus. The mycelial biomass, reducing sugar content, EPS yield and α-glucosidase inhibition rate were determined, and the EPS obtained was analyzed for monosaccharide composition. The results showed that the addition of all the four stimulatory agents could significantly increase the inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase of EPS than the control, whereas EPS from 4 µg/mL VB1-containing medium had the best effect with an estimated IC50 value 24.34 µg/mL. Among the four stimulatory agents, VB6 gave maximum production of mycelial biomass and EPS at the concentration of 4 µg/mL with a increase of 50.79% and 114.46%, respectively. In addition, betulin had a significant effect on increasing the EPS yield and activity, and birch extract had a significantly stimulatory effect on the mycelial growth and the polysaccharides activity, only slightly worse than VB6 and VB1. Moreover, the addition of different stimulatory agents changed the monosaccharide composition of polysaccharides, which had a correlation with polysaccharide activity.

Reactive oxygen species and subsequent oxidative stress are reported to play important roles in chronic metabolic diseases. Plant-derived polyphenols, especially food-derived phenolics, have attracted a lot of attention due to their potential usage against oxidative stress-related diseases. The leaf of Psidium guajava (known as guava) is regarded as a good resource of polyphenols and its products are commercially available in Japan as functional foods against multiple chronic metabolism disorders. In the course of finding novel polyphenols with antioxidative activities from guava leaf, 11 acylated phenolic glycosides (1-11), including 5 new oleuropeic acid-conjugated phenolic glycosides, named guajanosides A-E (1, 2, and 5-7), along with 17 known meroterpenoides (12-28), were isolated and identified. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic data analysis, chemical degradation, and acid hydrolysis. Compounds 1, 2, and 5-11 displayed potent reactive oxygen species-scavenging activity in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Western blot revealed that compound 6 markedly increased the expression levels of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1 (NQO1), and the glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit. The current study revealed the presence of oleuropeic acid-derived phenolic glycosides in guava leaf and highlighted the potential usage of this type of phenolics against oxidative stress-related metabolic diseases via activation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Chinese Baijiu is principally produced through a spontaneous fermentation process, which involves complex microorganism communities. Among them, yeasts and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are important communities. The study examined the isolated strains from fermented grains of Baijiu regarding their activity of α-amylase and glucoamylase, ethanol tolerance, glucose utilization, as well as metabolite production in the process of laboratory-scale sorghum-based fermentation. Selected strains (Saccharomycopsis fibuligera 12, Saccharomyces cerevisiae 3, and Pediococcus acidilactici 4) were blended in different combinations. The influence of selected strains on the metabolic variation in different semi-solid fermentations was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) accompanied by multivariate statistical analysis. According to the principal component analysis (PCA), the metabolites produced varied in different mixtures of pure cultures. S. fibuligera produced various enzymes, particularly α-amylase and glucoamylase, and exhibited a better performance compared with other species regarding the ability to convert starch to soluble sugars and positively affect the production process of volatile compounds. S. cerevisiae had a high fermentation capacity, thereby contributing to substrates utilization. Lactic acid bacteria had a good ability to produce lactic acid. This study attaches importance to the special functions of S. fibuligera, S. cerevisiae, and P. acidilactici in Chinese Baijiu making, and investigates their metabolic characteristics in the process of lab-scale semi-solid fermentation.

Insulin resistance (IR) is the primary pathogenesis of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, often used in the clinical treatment of T2DM. Baicalein which is considered to have anti-IR effects is one of its active ingredients. IR-induced HepG2 cells were used to investigate the effect of baicalein on glucose metabolism and insulin-signaling pathway, using metformin as a positive control. We found that the use of both baicalein and metformin increased the glucose consumption of IR cells, as well as increasing the pyruvate kinase (PK) and glucokinase (GCK) activity. Also increased was the expression levels of insulin receptor (InsR), insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), protein kinase B (AKT) pathway and glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2). Reduced expression levels were found in that of glucose 6 phosphatase (G6Pase) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) mRNA. The results confirmed that baicalein (10-6 and 10-5 mol/L) promotes glucose uptake and glycolysis, inhibits gluconeogenesis of hepatocytes to improve glucose metabolism, and may be as a result from regulation of InsR/IRS-1/PI3K/AKT pathway. Additionally, baicalein has large concentration range on inhibiting IR, and at lower concentrations has strong anti-IR hepatocyte activity.

Plant ferritin represents a novel class of iron supplement, which widely co-exists with phenolic acids in a plant diet. However, there are few reports on the effect of these phenolic acids on function of ferritin. In this study, we demonstrated that cinnamic acid derivatives, as widely occurring phenolic acids, can induce iron release from holo soybean seed ferritin (SSF) in a structure-dependent manner. The ability of the iron release from SSF by five cinnamic acids follows the sequence of Cinnamic acid > Chlorogenic acid > Ferulic acid > p-Coumaric acid > Trans-Cinnamic acid. Fluorescence titration in conjunction with dialysis results showed that all of these five compounds have a similar, weak ability to bind with protein, suggesting that their protein-binding ability is not related to their iron release activity. In contrast, both Fe2+-chelating activity and reducibility of these cinnamic acid derivatives are in good agreement with their ability to induce iron release from ferritin. These studies indicate that cinnamic acid and its derivatives could have a negative effect on iron stability of holo soybean seed ferritin in diet, and the Fe2+-chelating activity and reducibility of cinnamic acid and its derivatives have strong relations to the iron release of soybean seed ferritin.

OBJECTIVE: To compare changes of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPAA) in different rat models of Gan stagnation (GS), Pi deficiency (PD), Gan stagnation Pi deficiency (GSPD) syndromes, and to observe interventional effect of Chaishu Sijun Decoction (CSD, capable of soothing Gan-qi invigorating Pi) on them. METHODS: Seventy Wistar rats were divided into the normal control group (group 1), the GS group (group 2), the PD group (group 3), the GSPD group (group 4), the GS intervention group (group 5), the PD intervention group (group 6), and the GSPD intervention group (group 7) according to random digit table, 10 in each group. Rats in group 1 received no treatment. Rats in group 2 and 5 were modeled by chronic restraint method. Rats in group 3 and 6 were modeled by excess fatigue plus alimentary abstinence method. Rats in group 4 and 7 were modeled by chronic restraint, excess fatigue, and alimentary abstinence method. At the 2nd weekend of modeling, CSD at 2.86 g/kg was fed to rats in group 5, 6, and 7 by gastrogavage for 2 successive weeks. Equal volume of distilled water was given to rats in the rest 4 groups. On the 29th day, rats were killed, adrenal weight weighed, and adrenal index calculated. Levels of plasma and hypothalamus corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), plasma and pituitary adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), and plasma corticosterone (CORT) were determined using radioimmunity. RESULTS: Compared with group 1, adrenal index significantly decreased in group 2, 3, and 4 (P < 0.05). Of them, plasma and hypothalamus CRH, plasma CORT increased significantly in group 2 and 4 (P < 0.05). Besides, plasma and pituitary ACTH increased in group 4 (P < 0.05). Plasma and pituitary ACTH, as well as plasma CORT decreased significantly in group 3 (P < 0.05). Compared with group 2, 3, and 4, adrenal index increased significantly in group 5, 6, and 7 (P < 0.05). Compared with group 2, plasma CORT, hypothalamus CRH, and pituitary ACTH decreased significantly in group 5 (P < 0.05). Compared with group 3, plasma ACTH and CORT increased significantly in group 6 (P < 0.05). Compared with group 4, plasma CRH, ACTH, CORT, hypothalamus CRH, and pituitary ACTH decreased in group 7 (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The function of HPA .axis was damaged to varying degrees in rats of the three models in this experiment. Hyperactivity of HPA axis existed in GS syndrome and GSPD syndrome. Impairment of feedback regulation in hypothalamus and pituitary was accompanied in GSPD syndrome. Hypofunction of HPA axis existed in PDS. CSD, capable of soothing Gan-qi invigorating'Pi, showed improvement on disarranged HPAA, but with optimal effect on GSPD syndrome. CSD had higher correlation with GSPD syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: To acquire a thermostable xylanase, that is suitable for xylooligosaccharide production from pretreated corncobs, the metagenomic method was used to obtain the gene from an uncultured environmental microorganism. RESULTS: A thermostable xylanase-encoding gene (xyn10CD18) was cloned directly from the metagenomic DNA of cow dung compost. When xyn10CD18 was expressed in Bacillus megaterium MS941, extracellular xylansae activity at 106 IU/ml was achieved. The purified recombinant Xyn10CD18 was optimally active at pH 7 and 75 °C as measured over 10 min. It retained over 55% of its initial activity at 70 °C and pH 7 after 24 h. Its action on birchwood xylan for 18 h liberated xylooligosaccharides with 2°-4° of polymerization, with xylobiose and xylotetraose as the main products. When pretreated corncobs were hydrolyzed by Xyn10CD18 for 18 h, the xylooligosaccharides (DP 2-4) products increased to 80% and the xylose was just increased by 3%. CONCLUSION: Xyn10CD18 is a thermostable endoxylanase and is a promising candidate for biomass conversion and xylooligosaccharide production.

Bifidobacteria are normal inhabitants of the human gut, and members of which are generally considered to be probiotic. Before exerting their beneficial properties, they must survive and persist in the physiological concentrations (0.05-2%) of bile in the gut. In this work, the functional role of tlyC1 encoding a hemolysin-like protein from Bifidobacterium longum BBMN68 in bile tolerance was tested. Analysis using the program TMHMM and homologous alignment indicated that TlyC1 is a nontransporter membrane protein and is conserved in many bifidobacteria. Heterologous expression of tlyC1 in Lactococcus lactis NZ9000 was shown to confer 45-fold higher tolerance to 0.15% ox-bile. Notably, the recombinant strains showed threefold higher survival when exposed to sublethal concentration of TCA and TDCA, while no significant change was observed when exposed to GCA and GDCA. Furthermore, real-time quantitative PCR demonstrated that the transcription of tlyC1 was up-regulated c. 2.5- and 2.7-fold in B. longum BBMN68 exposed to sublethal concentration of TCA and TDCA, while no significant change was observed with GCA and GDCA challenges. This study indicated that tlyC1 was specifically induced by tauroconjugates, which provided enhanced resistance to sodium taurocholate and sodium taurodeoxycholate.

STUDY DESIGN: Meta-analysis to collect all the relevant studies to date to further investigate whether or not the COL9A2 gene rs12077871, rs12722877, and rs7533552 polymorphism are associated with susceptibility to lumbar disc disease (LDD). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the association between the COL9A2 gene rs12077871, rs12722877, and rs7533552 and LDD. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: LDD is a common musculoskeletal disease with strong genetic determinants. COL9A2 encodes the α2 (IX) chain of type IX collagen, which is the major collagen component of the hyaline cartilage. Growing numbers of studies have revealed the association between COL9A2 polymorphisms and susceptibility to LDD. However, those studies have yielded contradictory results. METHODS: Data were collected from the following electronic databases: PubMed, Web of Knowledge, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, with the last report up to November 30, 2013. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the strength of association under the allelic genetic model. We summarized the data on the association between COL9A2 rs12077871, rs12722877, and rs7533552 polymorphism and LDD in the overall studies. RESULTS: Nine case-control studies, including 1522 LDD cases and 1646 controls, were identified. The results indicated that the rs12077871, rs12722877, and rs7533552 variants in COL9A2 were not associated with LDD (rs12077871: C vs. T, OR = 0.541, 95% CI = 0.256-1.147, P = 0.109; rs12722877: C vs. G, OR = 1.199, 95% CI = 0.992-1.448, P = 0.06; rs7533552: A vs. G, OR = 0.993, 95% CI = 0.815-1.069, P = 0.320). Furthermore, the Egger test and the Begg funnel plot did not show any evidence of publication bias. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the COL9A2 rs12077871, rs12722877, and rs7533552 polymorphisms may not be associated with LDD. More studies based on larger sample sizes and homogeneous samples of patients with LDD are needed to confirm these findings. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 2.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease, of which the pathogenesis has remained unclear. At present, MG does not have any effective treatment with minor side effects. Jian Ji Ning (JJN), a traditional Chinese medicine formula consisting of 11 medicinal plants, has been used in the treatment of MG for many years. The present study aims to determine if the Chinese herbal medicine JJN could lighten the clinical symptoms of patients with MG via the regulation of differential microRNAs (miRNAs) expression in serum. JJN should be orally administered twice a day for 6 months. In the efficacy evaluation adopting the Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis Score (QMG), we found that JJN could improve the clinical symptoms of patients with MG more effectively. Besides, we found that JJN could regulate differential miRNAs expression in serum of patients with MG. Accordingly, we speculate that the effects of JJN on improving clinical symptoms and blood test indicators of patients with MG may be due to its inhibition of apoptotic pathways of some immune cells and its connection with the regulation of serum miRNAs of some patients. In conclusion, we believe that JJN has a reliable curative effect on patients with MG-induced neuropathologic changes.

High levels of extracellular xylanase activity (211.79 IU/mg) produced by Paenibacillus sp. NF1 were detected when it was submerged-cultured. After three consecutive purification steps using Octyl-Sepharose, Sephadex G75, and Q-Sepharose columns, a thermostable xylanase (XynNF) was purified to homogeneity and showed a molecular mass of 37 kDa according to SDS-PAGE. The specific activity of the purified XynNF was up to 3,081.05 IU/mg with a 14.55-fold purification. The activity of XynNF was stimulated by Ca(2+), Ba(2+), DTT, and ß-mercaptoethanol, but was inhibited by Fe(3+), Zn(2+), Fe(2+), Cu(2+), SDS, and EDTA. The purified XynNF displayed a greater affinity for oat spelt xylan with the maximal enzymatic activity at 60°C and pH 6.0. XynNF, which was shown to be cellulose-free, with high stability at high temperature (70°C-80°C) and low pH range (pH 4.0-7.0), is potentially valuable for various industrial applications. The end products of high efficient oat spelt xylan hydrolysis by XynNF (an endoxylanase) containing 95.8% xylooligosaccharides of 2-4 degree of polymerization (DP2-4) with the enrichment of xylobiose (61.5%) indicated that XynNF is a promising candidate for xylooligosaccharides production.

OBJECTIVE: To study the use of Jianjining in the treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG) patients with a deficiency of both spleen and kidney via the theory on the combination of disease with syndrome. METHODS: Sixty MG patients with a deficiency of both spleen and kidney were randomly divided into an treatment group (n = 30) treated with Jianjining granules and Western Medicine (prednisone or pyridostigmine bromide) and a control group (n = 30) treated with Jianjining granules. The dosage of the three drugs was reduced over the course of treatment. After 3 and 6 months of treatment, the curative effect was evaluated with the muscle weakness severity scale (MWSS). RESULTS: The MWSS score after treatment declined significantly in both groups. The score in the treatment group was much lower tha that in the control group (P < 0.05). The total effective rate was 63.33% (19/30) in the treatment group and 36.67% (11/30) in the control group after 3 months of treatment, and 80.00% (24/30) and 50.00% (15/30), respectively, after 6 months of treatment. The obvious and total effective rates in the treatment group were much higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After 6 months of treatment, there were no obvious differences (P > 0.05) in the obvious and effective rates between the 2 groups. However, the total effective rate in the treatment group was much higher than that in the control group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Using the theory on the combination of disease with syndrome, we found that the curative effect of Jianjining and Western Medicine on MG patients with deficiency of both spleen and kidney is worth further exploration.

Methylotrophic bacteria are widespread microbes which can use one carbon compound as their only carbon and energy sources. Here we report the finished, annotated genome sequence of the methylotrophic bacterium Methylovorus sp. strain MP688, which was isolated from soil for high-level production of pyrroloquinolone quinone (PQQ) in our lab.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The effect of gefitinib on advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was various. How to choose the sensitive patients and improve the effect was difficulty in clinic. This study was to assess the correlation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations and HER2/3 protein expression with the effect of gefitinib on Chinese patients with advanced NSCLC. METHODS: From May 2002 to February 2005, a total of 106 Chinese NSCLC patients who had failed at least one chemotherapy regimen were treated with gefitinib 250 mg once a day. The mutations in the exons 18-24 of EGFR gene were detected in the tumor tissues from 106 patients before the treatment of gefitinib, and HER2/3 expression in 84 tumor samples were detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Mutation was identified in 32 (30.2%) tumor tissues. Overall remission rate was significantly higher in the HER2 high expression patients than in the HER2 low expression patients (36.8% vs 17.4%, P=0.044). HER2 and HER3 expression levels were not associated with time to progression (TTP) and overall survival (OS). The patients with HER2/3 single high expression had relatively longer TTP and OS than those with HER2/3 single low expression (6.1 vs 9.1 months, P=0.725; 6.1 vs 9.0 months, P=0.862), while those with concomitant HER2/3 high expression had significant longer TTP and OS. EGFR-mutated patients with HER2 expression or high HER2 and HER3 expressions were more sensitive to gefitinib. CONCLUSION: EGFR mutations combined with HER2/3 expressions is a significant predictor for gefitinib efficacy on Chinese patients with advanced NSCLC.

Inorganic salts, NaCl, KCl, CaCl(2), MgCl(2), FeCl(2), FeSO(4), FeCl(3), and Fe(2)(SO(4))(3), were studied as catalysts for the degradation of hemicellulose in corn stover. FeCl(3) significantly increased the hemicellulose degradation in aqueous solutions heated between 140 and 200 degrees C with high xylose recovery and low cellulose removal, amounting to approximately 90% and <10%, respectively. Hemicellulose removal increased 11-fold when the corn stover was pretreated with 0.1 M FeCl(3) compared to pretreatment with hot water under otherwise the same conditions, which was also 6-fold greater than pretreatment with dilute sulfuric acid at the same pH. Optimum pretreatment conditions were found where the corn stover was pretreated with 0.1 M FeCl(3) at 140 degrees C for 20 min. Under such conditions, 91% of hemicellulose was removed, and the recovery of monomeric and oligomeric xylose in liquid fraction achieved 89%, meanwhile, only 9% of cellulose was removed.

Corn stover was pretreated with FeCl(3) to remove almost all of the hemicellulose present and then hydrolyzed with cellulase and beta-glucosidase to produce glucose. Enzymatic hydrolysis of corn stover that had been pretreated with FeCl(3) at 160 degrees C for 20 min resulted in an optimum yield of 98.0%. This yield was significantly higher than that of untreated corn stover (22.8%). FeCl(3) pretreatment apparently damaged the surface of corn stover and significantly increased the enzymatic digestibility, as evidenced by SEM and XRD analysis data. FTIR analysis indicated that FeCl(3) pretreatment could disrupt almost all the ether linkages and some ester linkages between lignin and carbohydrates but had no effect on delignification. The FeCl(3) pretreatment technique, as a novel pretreatment method, enhances enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass by destructing chemical composition and altering structural features.

BACKGROUND: Endothelial cell senescence is accelerated under high glucose condition, which may contribute to the vascular complications in the diabetics. It has been proved that aspirin has multiple cytoprotective effects. This study aimed to investigate the effect of aspirin on high glucose-induced endothelial cell senescence and its possible mechanism. METHODS: Human umbilical venous endothelial cells were cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) with different treatments including the normal glucose (5.5 mmol/L), high glucose (33 mmol/L) and aspirin (0.01 - 1.00 mmol/L) with high glucose. And 300 micromol/L L-NAME was added to the culture medium when needed. After 48 hours, SA-beta-gal staining was used to evaluate the senescence. Total nitric oxide (NO) production and NO synthase (NOS) activity were measured using Griess reaction and molecular probes of 3-amino-4-aminomethyl-2', 7'-difluorescein, diacetate. The level of intracellular reactive oxygen species was monitored by flow cytometry using 2', 7'-dichlorofluorescein diacetate. Endothelial NOS (eNOS), caveolin-1 protein expressions and caveolin-1/eNOS interaction were analyzed by immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation respectively. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) concentration was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS: Exposure to 33 mmol/L glucose for 48 hours significantly increased the number of SA-beta-gal positive cells. Co-incubation with aspirin markedly inhibited SA-beta-gal activity dose-dependently. Aspirin increased NOS activity with eNOS protein expression unchanged and increased NO levels and alleviated oxidative stress. Consistent with these findings, caveolin-1 expression, caveolin-1/eNOS interaction and ADMA accumulation were also decreased. All the inhibitory effects of aspirin on senescence were completely obliterated by L-NAME, the NOS inhibitor. CONCLUSION: The anti-senescent effects of aspirin are fulfilled by increasing NO production via the up-regulation of NOS activity and preventing caveolin-1 expression, caveolin-1/eNOS interaction and ADMA accumulation.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between mutation in EGFR tyrosine kinase domain and tumor response as well as prognosis in advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with iressa. METHODS: From May 2002 to Feb. 2005, iressa was orally administered at a dose of 250 mg once daily for 106 advanced stage NSCLC patients until occurrence of disease progression or intolerable toxicity. Cancer tissue was obtained from these patients, and DNA was extracted for analysis of mutation in exon 18 to 24 of EGFR. Exon 18 to 24 of EGFR were amplified by nest PCR, sequenced and analyzed from both sense and antisence directions. RESULTS: Primary NSCLC tissue specimens consisted of 25 frozen tissue blocks and 81 paraffin-embedded tumor tissue blocks from 106 consecutive NSCLC patients. Mutation was found to be more frequent in the adenocarcinoma than in the squamous cell carcinoma (35.9% vs 14.3%, P =0.033). Mutation was identified in 32 patients (30.2%). Response rate to iressa was 71.9% in the patients with EGFR mutation versus 13.5% in those without mutation (P <0.01). Compared with the patients without EGFR mutation, those with mutation had longer overall survival (median, 13.45 vs. 5.25 months; P<0.01) and median time to progression (median, 8.35 vs. 3.0 months; P <0.01). CONCLUSION: EGFR mutation may be positively correlated with the response and survival in advanced stage Chinese NSCLC patient treated with iressa.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the polymorphism of UGT1A gene in Chinese, and to investigate the correlation between UGT1A polymorphism and irinotecan toxicity in colorectal cancer patients. METHODS: 70 patients with advanced colorectal cancer were treated with irinotecan and 5-fluorouracil. Polymorphism analysis was performed in all those patients and 100 healthy subjects. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and genotyped using polymerase chain reaction and direct sequencing. RESULTS: 14 patients exhibiting grade 3 - 4 neutropenia (20.0%), 16 patients experienced grade 2 - 4 diarrhea (22.9%), including only 4 patients with grade 3 - 4 diarrhea (5.7%). Compared with TA6/7 and TA7/7, UGT1 A1 * 28 wild genotype TA6/6 was significantly associated with reduced toxicity (42.1% vs. 15.7%, P = 0.027). There was no significant difference in the distribution of UGT1A genotypes between colorectal cancer patients and healthy subjects. CONCLUSION: Chinese patients exhibit less irinotecan-related diarrhea due to higher frequence of UGT1A A1 * 28 wild genotype TA6/6.
