RESUMO

Lipid metabolism is an important and complex biochemical process involved in the storage of energy and maintenance of normal biological functions. Leucine, a branched amino acid, has anti-obesity effects on glucose tolerance, lipid metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. Leucine also modulates mitochondrial dysfunction, representing a new strategy to target aging, neurodegenerative disease, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Although various studies have been carried out, much uncertainty still exists and further studies are required to fully elucidate the relationship between leucine and lipid metabolism. This review offers an up-to-date report on leucine, as key roles in both lipid metabolism and energy homeostasis in vivo and in vitro by acceleration of fatty acid oxidation, lipolysis, activation of the adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)-silent information regulator of transcription 1 (SIRT1)-proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) pathway, synthesis, and/or secretion of adipokines and stability of the gut microbiota.

PURPOSE: Apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) derived from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) and metabolic parameters derived from 18F-FDG positron emission tomography (PET) are promising prognostic indicators for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). However, the relationship between them remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between ADCs and metabolic parameters in hypopharyngeal SCC (HSCC) using integrated PET/MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with biopsy-proven HSCC underwent integrated 18F-FDG neck PET/MRI. ADCs of HSCC, including the mean and minimum ADC values (ADCmean and ADCmin), were measured manually on ADC maps. Metabolic parameters of HSCC, including maximum and mean standardized uptake values (SUVmax and SUVmean), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), were calculated automatically on PET images. Spearman correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationships between ADCs and metabolic parameters in HSCC tumors as well as in tumor groups with different histological grading, clinical staging, and anatomical subsites. P values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. RESULTS: No significant correlation was observed between ADCs and 18F-FDG PET metabolic parameters in the entire cohort, except for a significant inverse correlation between ADCmean and MTV (r = -0.556, P = 0.003). Furthermore, a significant inverse correlation was observed between ADCmean and MTV of HSCC in the moderately to well differentiated group (rADCmean/MTV = -0.692, P = 0.006), stage III group (rADCmean/MTV = -0.758, P = 0.003), and pyriform sinus group (rADCmean/MTV = -0.665, P = 0.007), whereas no significant correlation was observed in the poorly differentiated group, stage IV group, or non-pyriform sinus group. CONCLUSIONS: Inverse correlation between ADCmean and MTV in the HSCC population was observed and the correlativity depended on histological grading, clinical staging, and anatomical subsites of HSCC.

A bacteria strain, designated CFH 90008T, was isolated from a salt lake sediment sample collected from Yuncheng city, Shanxi Province, PR China. Strain CFH 90008T was Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, motile with lateral flagella and rod-shaped. Colonies were yellow, circular and smooth. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CFH 90008T belonged to the genus Halomonas, showing highest sequence similarity to Halomonas daqingensis DQD2-30T (98.6 %), Halomonas saliphila LCB169T (98.5 %), Halomonas desiderata FB2T (98.1 %) and Halomonas kenyensis AIR-2T (98.0 %). Good growth was observed at 10-50 °C, pH 6.0-9.0 and with NaCl concentration from 1.0 to 12.0 % (w/v). The predominant quinone was Q9. The major fatty acid (>10 %) was C18 : 1 ω7c, C16 : 0 and C16 : 1 ω7c. The genome of strain CFH 90008T was 4.36 Mbp with a genomic DNA G+C content of 66.7 mol%. Based on low average nucleotide identity and DNA-DNAhybridization results, chemotaxonomic characteristics, and differential physiological properties, strain CFH 90008T could not be classified into any recognized species of the genus Halomonas. Therefore, a new species, for which the name Halomonas lactosivorans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 90008T (=DSM 103220T=KCTC 52281T).

BACKGROUND: Glycerophospholipids were the main components of cerebral cortex lipids, and there was a close association between lipid homeostasis and human health. It has been reported that dietary DHA-enriched phosphatidylcholine (DHA-PC) and phosphatidylserine (DHA-PS) could improve brain function. However, it was unclear that whether supplementation of DHA-PC and DHA-PS could change lipid profiles in the brain of dementia animals. METHODS: SAMP8 mice was fed with different diet patterns for 2 months, including high-fat diet and low-fat diet. After intervention with DHA-PC and DHA-PS for another 2 months, the lipid profile in cerebral cortex was determined by lipidomics in dementia mice. RESULTS: High-fat diet could significantly decrease the levels of DHA-containing PS/pPE, DPA-containing PS, and AA-containing PE, which might exhibit the potential of lipid biomarkers for the prevention and diagnosis of AD. Notably, DHA-PC and DHA-PS remarkably recovered the lipid homeostasis in dementia mice. These might provide a potential novel therapy strategy and direction of dietary intervention for patients with cognitive decline. CONCLUSIONS: DHA-PC and DHA-PS could recover the content of brain DHA-containing PS and pPE in SAMP8 mice fed with high-fat diet.

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)-enriched phosphoethanolamine plasmalogens (EPA-PlsEtns) might be retained in the intestine rich in gut microbiota for a long time after treatment. It reminded us that EPA-PlsEtns might affect intestinal microbiota composition and its metabolites, which have been identified as a contributing factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases. In the present study, EPA-PlsEtn administration for 8 weeks significantly reduced the atherosclerotic lesion area in low-density lipoprotein receptor deficient (LDLR-/-) mice. Notably, the serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly reduced by 33.6 and 38.2%, respectively, by EPA-PlsEtns instead of EPA in the form of ethyl ester (EPA-EE) treatment compared with the model group. EPA-PlsEtn administration also increased total neutral sterol and bile acids in feces by 92 and 39%, respectively, rather than EPA-EE. Mechanistically, EPA-PlsEtns might affect the abundance of gut microbiota contributing to the alteration of bile acid profiles, which might further accelerate bile acid synthesis via increasing cholesterol 7 α-hydroxylase expression induced by the inhibition of farnesoid X receptor activation.

RESUMO

Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors have achieved great success in clinical application, especially for the prolonged survival of cisplatin-sensitive ovarian cancer patients. However, there are still many patients who do not respond to PARP inhibitors. Novel PARP inhibitors with higher activity are urgently needed. Herein we report a series of compounds by molecular hybridization PARP-1 inhibitor Olaparib (Ola) with HSP90 inhibitor C0817 (one curcumin derivative). All synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative activity in vitro, and some were further assessed for their inhibitory activities of the PARP enzyme and HSP90 affinity. Our results indicated that compound 4 could bind to HSP90 and cause static quenching, indicating that compound 4 was able to bind to HSP90, moreover, downstream molecular breast cancer 1 (BRAC-1) was reduced. In conclusion, dual target inhibitors of PARP and HSP90 exhibited stronger selective cytotoxicities against cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Few reference values have been established for the motor unit number index (MUNIX) and motor unit size index (MUSIX). In this study we aimed to investigate the features of MUNIX in healthy individuals for five muscles. METHODS: We measured the MUNIX in the right abductor pollicis brevis (APB), abductor digiti minimi (ADM), biceps brachii (BB), tibialis anterior (TA), and trapezius (TR) muscles. RESULTS: The study enrolled 76 male and 74 female participants. The mean MUNIX and mean MUSIX of the right APB, ADM, BB, TA, and TR muscles were 191.0 ± 43.6, 179.1 ± 38.8, 179.7 ± 36.2, 152.1 ± 38.8, and 166.1 ± 40.7; and 60.4 ± 12.5, 59.3 ± 13.7, 43.8 ± 11.5, 41.3 ± 10.7, and 49.1 ± 15.2, respectively. MUNIX in these five muscles was inversely related to age. DISCUSSION: The establishment of reference values for MUNIX and MUSIX in five muscles may help in monitoring the progression of neuromuscular diseases.

Our previous study showed that EPA-enriched ethanolamine plasmalogen (EPA-pPE) exerted more significant effects than EPA-enriched phosphatidylethanolamine (EPA-PE) in improving learning and memory deficit. However, the results of the mechanism study were not consistent with the improved cognitive function, which suggested that other signaling pathways might be involved. In the present study, primary cultured hippocampal neurons and cognitive deficiency rats were used to compare the effects of EPA-pPE and EPA-PE on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB)/cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) signaling and neuronal apoptosis. The in vitro experiment showed that both EPA-pPE and EPA-PE could relieve cell death and improve the cellular morphology of neurons via upregulating anti-apoptotic proteins and downregulating pro-apoptotic proteins. The in vivo experiment showed that EPA-pPE exerted more significant effects than EPA-PE in improving the number of neuronal Nissl bodies, increasing the branching of dendrites and dendritic spine density in cortical neurons, as well as improving the expression of synaptic vesicle-related proteins synaptophysin (SYN) and PSD95 via BDNF/TrkB/CREB signaling. These results indicated that EPA-pPE exerted neuroprotection at least partly through inhibiting neuronal apoptosis and enhancing the BDNF/TrkB/CREB pathway, which suggests that EPA-enriched plasmalogen can be explored as a potential therapeutic agent in long-term Alzheimer's disease therapy.

The carbon nanostructure with heteroatom doping having well-designed porosity and a large pore volume plays a vital role in high-performance supercapacitors. Herein, we synthesize hierarchical nitrogen and sulfur-codoped micromesoporous carbon nanospheres (N,S-HPCNSs) with an ultralarge pore volume of 3.684 cm3 g-1. The ultralarge pore volume in the N,S-HPCNSs can achieve fast charge storage and high electrochemical utilization due to the rapid mass transport. As a result, N,S-HPCNSs exhibit specific capacitances of 309.4 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 and 232.0 F g-1 at 50 A g-1 in a 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte, suggesting a superior rate property. Moreover, the N,S-HPCNSs exhibit a splendid cycling performance after 10,000 cycles with 98.5% capacitance retention. Furthermore, a symmetric supercapacitor reaches an excellent energy density of 27.8 W h kg-1 under 180.0 W kg-1 in a 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. The remarkable electrochemical properties of N,S-HPCNSs are caused by the ultralarge pore volume and hierarchical micromesoporous structures of the carbon NSs, which provide a significant way for designing energy storage systems.

Although the bimetal sulfide is intensively pursued in catalytic systems, synthesis of ultrafine sized bimetal sulfide Janus subunits is still a great challenge. In this work, ultrafine NiS2/MoS2 Janus subunits organized on yolk-shell nanospheres (NSs) are synthesized by a novel and facile approach. The greatly reduced particle size of both two-dimensional MoS2 and one-dimensional NiS2 on the ultrafine NiS2/MoS2 Janus subunits endows the yolk-shell NSs with numerous intimate interfaces of bimetal sulfide hybrids greatly promoting the intimate electronic interaction and dissociation of water molecules. Benefiting from the ultrafine NiS2/MoS2 Janus subunits, abundant edge sites and the high density of interfaces, the as-prepared NiS2/MoS2 yolk-shell NSs exhibit high electrocatalytic activity with a low η10 value of 135 and 293 mV for the HER and OER, respectively. In addition, a low cell voltage (1.58 V) is achieved by using NiS2/MoS2 yolk-shell NSs as both anode and cathode. This study has significant indications in exploring the ultrafine nanoparticles for the water splitting reaction, fuel cells and organic synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Spastic paraplegia type 11 (SPG11) mutations are the most frequent cause of autosomal recessive hereditary spastic paraplegia (ARHSP). We are aiming to identify the causative mutations in SPG11 among families referred to our center with ARHSP in a Chinese population. METHODS: Targeted next-generation sequencing was performed on the patients to identify disease-causing mutations. Variants were analyzed according to their predicted pathogenicity and their relevance to the clinical phenotypes. The segregation in the family members was validated by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: A total of 12 mutations in SPG11 gene from 9 index cases were identified, including 6 frameshift mutations, 3 missense mutations, 1 nonsense mutation, 1 splicing mutation, and 1 intron deletion mutation. In 6 of these patients, the mutations were homozygous, and the other 3 patients carried two compound heterozygous mutations. Six mutations were novel; 2 were classified as pathogenic, 1 were considered as likely pathogenic, and the other 3 were variants of unknown significance. Additionally, 1 missense heterozygous variant we found was also carried by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patient. Clinically and electrophysiologically, some of our ARHSP patients partially shared various features of autosomal-recessive juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ARJALS), including combination of both UMN and LMN degeneration. CONCLUSIONS: The results contribute to extending of the SPG11 gene mutation spectrum and emphasizing a putative link between ARHSP and ARJALS.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease for which there is no cure. In a clinical trial, the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist exendin-4 has shown good protective effects in PD patients. The hormone glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) has also shown protective effects in animal models of PD. OBJECTIVE: We tested DA-CH5, a novel dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist. METHODS: DA-CH5 activity was tested on cells expressing GLP-1, GLP-2, GIP or glucagon receptors. The ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) of DA-CH5, exendin-4, liraglutide or other dual receptor agonists was tested with fluorescein-labelled peptides. DA-CH5, exendin-4 and liraglutide were tested in the MPTP mouse model of PD. RESULTS: Analysing the receptor activating properties showed a balanced activation of GLP-1 and GIP receptors while not activating GLP-2 or glucagon receptors. DA-CH5 crossed the BBB better than other single or other dual receptor agonists. In a dose-response comparison, DA-CH5 was more effective than the GLP-1 receptor agonist exendin-4. When comparing the neuroprotective effect of DA-CH5 with Liraglutide, a GLP-1 analogue, both DA-CH5 and Liraglutide improved MPTP-induced motor impairments. In addition, the drugs reversed the decrease of the number of neurons expressing tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in the SN, alleviated chronic inflammation, reduced lipid peroxidation, inhibited the apoptosis pathway (TUNEL assay) and increased autophagy -related proteins expression in the substantia nigra (SN) and striatum. Importantly, we found DA-CH5 was superior to Liraglutide in reducing microglia and astrocyte activation, improving mitochondrial activity by reducing the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and normalising autophagy as found in abnormal expression of LC3 and p62. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrate that the DA-CH5 is superior to liraglutide and could be a therapeutic treatment for PD.

BACKGROUND: Sea cucumber is a rich source of eicosapentaenoic acid in the form of eicosapentaenoic acid-enriched phospholipids (EPA-PL). It is known to be efficacious in preventing obesity. However, few studies have focused on the role of EPA-PL in inhibiting lipid accumulation by lipid droplets (LDs). This study first investigated the effect of EPA-PL from sea cucumber on the formation of LDs and the underlying mechanism in C57BL/6J mice. The mice were randomly divided into two groups and treated for 8 weeks or 3, 7, and 14 days with either (i) a high-sucrose diet (model group), (ii) a high-sucrose diet plus 2% EPA-PL (EPA-PL group). RESULTS: Eight-week EPA-PL supplementation significantly reduced lipid accumulation and LD size in liver and white adipose tissue (WAT), which was accompanied by the decreased expression of LDs-associated protein FSP27. A 3-day EPA-PL treatment suppressed the mRNA expression of Fsp27. The mRNA level of Fsp27 reached its 'normal level' after withdrawing EPA-PL for 7 days, suggesting that EPA-PL might serve as a rapid regulator of FSP27. Furthermore, EPA-PL increased the expression of lipolysis genes Hsl and Atgl accompanied by the regulation of Pparγ in WAT. CONCLUSIONS: Dietary EPA-PL from sea cucumber (Cucumaria frondosa) protected against lipid accumulation by regulating LDs-associated protein FSP27, which might provide novel evidence for the anti-obesity action of EPA-PL. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

The beneficial effects of nonpolar DHA/EPA in triacylglycerol (TG) and ethyl ester (EE) forms as well as terrestrial phospholipids on physical fatigue have been widely reported. However, the results involving the effects were inconsistent, and the reason might be that the differences in physical fatigue induced by aerobic and anaerobic exercises were usually ignored. In addition, it has been reported the significant improvement of DHA/EPA esterified to phospholipids (DHA/EPA-PLs) on many fields but not physical fatigue. Therefore, the effects of DHA/EPA-PLs on physical fatigue induced by aerobic and anaerobic exercises were evaluated and compared with those of l-carnitine and astaxanthin using swimming and running exhaustion tests in mice, respectively. The results indicated that DHA/EPA-PLs and l-carnitine have significant effects on the performance of aerobic exercise, while astaxanthin had remarkable effects on the performance of anaerobic exercise. The possible underlying mechanisms indicated that DHA/EPA-PLs significantly promoted the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism as well as the mitochondrial respiratory chain and tricarboxylic acid cycle in muscles. The study presented a potential novel candidate or targeted dietary patterns for alleviating physical fatigue.

A novel Gram-negative bacterium, designated CFH 10530T, was isolated from the intestine of grass carp. The sample was collected from the aquaculture training base at the College of Fisheries, Henan Normal University, Xinxiang, PR China. Cells of strain CFH 10530T were coccoid, ovoid or short-rod-shaped, aerobic, non-spore-forming and non-motile. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis demonstrated that strain CFH 10530T was closely related to Paracoccus endophyticus SYSUP0003T (97.7 % sequence similarity), Paracoccus halophilus HN-182T (96.5 %) and Paracoccus panacisoli DCY94T (96.1 %). The strain grew optimally at 25-28 °C, at pH 7.0 and with 0-2 % (w/v) NaCl. Cells were positive for catalase and oxidase, nitrate was reduced and H2S was not produced. The isoprenoid quinone was Q-10. Major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8, C18 : 0 and C18 : 03-OH. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, one unidentified aminolipid and five unidentified polar lipids. The genome size was 3 331 229 bp with a G+C content of 69.6 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between CFH 10530T and the other species of the genus Paracoccus were found to be below the recommended levels for species delineation (ANIm <85, ANIb <80 and dDDH <24 %). Based on its physiological properties, chemotaxonomic characteristics and low ANI and dDDH results, strain CFH 10530T is considered to represent a novel species for which the name Paracoccus luteus sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is CFH 10530T (=KCTC 62919T=CGMCC 1.16597T).

Cholesterol was usually used to stabilize liposome, although there have been controversies on the relationship between dietary cholesterol and health. The present study aimed to prepare a novel multifunctional nanoliposomes stabilized by sea cucumber-derived saponins using ultrasound-assisted film dispersion method. A novel uniform liposome with a mass ratio of egg yolk lecithin/sea cucumber saponins at 75:25 was successfully prepared to encapsulate saponin, and the particle size was 164.8 ± 1.70 nm with a PDI value of 0.214 ± 0.022 and zeta potential of -15.97 ± 1.23 mV. The digestion and absorption results in vivo showed that the dietary saponins in liposome form could delay the peak time of saponins and prolong their residence time in the serum. Moreover, saponins were more easily converted into their corresponding metabolites after administration with saponins in the liposome form. The novel liposome as an efficient carrier with multiple functions had great potential in the development of functional food and biomedical applications.

A novel Gram-staining negative, aerobic, motile by flagellum, rod-shaped bacterium, designated CFH 70021T was isolated from a hot spring soil sample collected from Tengchong, Yunnan province, PR China. Growth of CFH 70021T occurred at 15-50 °C (optimum 50 °C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and with 0-3.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0 %, w/v). The genome of CFH 70021T consisted of four complete circular chromosomes and five plasmids, the genomic DNA G+C content was 69.3 mol%. Comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that CFH 70021T represented a member of the genus Azospirillum and showed close relationship with the type strains of Azospirillum agricola CC-HIH038T (97.8 %), Azospirillum rugosum IMMIB AFH-6T (97.6 %), Azospirillum doebereinerae GSF71T (97.6 %), Azospirillum thiophilum DSM 21654T (97.4 %) and Azospirillum picis IMMIB TAR-3T (97.2 %). The polar lipids of CFH 70021T contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmehtylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, two aminolipids and an unidentified phospholipid. The predominant cellular fatty acids (>10 %) included C19:0cyclo ω8c (11.4 %), C16 : 0 (27.6 %) and summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c/C18:1ω6c, 40.9 %). The major isoprenoid quinone was Q-10. On the basis of the low ANIb result (<78 %) and different phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characters, we conclude that strain CFH 70021T represents a novel member of the genus Azospirillum, for which the name Azospirillum thermophilum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 70021T (=KCTC 62259T= CCTCC AB2018121T).

In this article, we propose an online and unsupervised anomaly detection algorithm for streaming data using an array of sliding windows and the probability density-based descriptors (PDDs) (based on these windows). This algorithm mainly consists of three steps: 1) we use a main sliding window over streaming data and segment this window into an array of nonoverlapping subwindows; 2) we propose the PDDs with dimension reduction, based on the kernel density estimation, to estimate the probability density of data in each subwindow; and 3) we design the distance-based anomaly detection rule to determine whether the current observation is anomalous. The experimental results and performances are presented based on the Numenta anomaly benchmark. Compared with the anomaly detection algorithm using the hierarchical temporal memory proposed by Numenta (which outperforms a wide range of other anomaly detection algorithms), our algorithm can perform better in many cases, that is, with higher detection rates and earlier detection for contextual anomalies and concept drifts.

Lung cancer has a poor 5-year survival rate and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Thus, the development of more efficient therapeutic strategies is urgently needed. Many studies have shown that EGCG, a major polyphenol found in green tea, has potential anticancer effects. The present study aims to investigate the molecular mechanism of EGCG-mediated inhibition of proliferation in lung cancer cells and to explore the effects of combined treatment with EGCG and an NF-κB inhibitor, BAY11-7082, in A549 and H1299 cells both in vitro and in vivo. Our results showed that EGCG inhibits cell proliferation and migration and induces apoptosis in A549 and H1299 cells at relatively high concentrations (IC50=86.4 µM for A549 cells and 80.6 µM for H1299 cells). These effects are partially achieved via inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Combined treatment with EGCG and BAY11-7082, a potent NF-κB inhibitor, shows significant synergistic effects at relatively low concentrations. The inhibition rate reached approximately 50% in cells treated for 72 h with 20 µM EGCG and 5 µM (A549 cells) or 2.5 µM BAY11-7082 (H1299 cells). This synergistic anti-tumor effect was also observed in a xenograft model. These results indicated that EGCG inhibits lung cancer cell proliferation by suppressing NF-κB signaling. Coadministration of EGCG and BAY11-7082 has a synergistic effect both in vitro and in vivo and may serve as a novel therapeutic strategy for lung cancer.

Red phosphorus (P) has been recognized as a promising material for lithium/sodium-ion batteries (LIBs/SIBs) because of their high theoretical capacity. However, tremendous volume variation and low conductivity limit its widespread applications. Hence, we design and synthesize uniformly distributed honeycomb-like hierarchical micro-mesoporous carbon nanospheres (HHPCNSs) with ultralarge pore volume (3.258 cm3 g-1) on a large scale through a facile way. The large pore volume provides enough space for loading of P and the expansion of P, and the uniform distribution of the micro-mesopores enables the red P to load uniformly. The resulting HHPCNSs/P composite exhibits extremely high capacity (2463.8 and 2367.6 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 for LIBs and SIBs, respectively), splendid rate performance (842.2 and 831.1 mA h g-1 at 10 A g-1 for LIBs and SIBs, respectively) and superior cycling stability (1201.6 and 938.4 mA h g-1 at 2 and 5 A g-1 after 1000 cycles for LIBs and 1269.4 and 861.8 mA h g-1 at 2 and 5 A g-1 after 1000 cycles for SIBs, respectively). More importantly, when coupled with LiFePO4 and Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode, lithium/sodium-ion full batteries display high capacity and superior rate and cycling performances, revealing the practicability of the HHPCNSs/P composite. The exceptional electrochemical performance is caused by the honeycomb-like carbon network with ultralarge pore volume, uniformly distributed hierarchical micro-mesoporous nanostructure, outstanding electronic conductivity, and excellent nanostructural stability, which is much better than currently reported P/C materials for both LIBs and SIBs.
