RESUMO

Critically, the central metal atoms along with their coordination environment play a significant role in the catalytic performance of single-atom catalysts (SACs). Herein, 12 single Fe, Mo, and Ru atoms supported on defective graphene are theoretically deigned for investigation of their structural and electronic properties and catalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) performance using first-principles calculations. Our results reveal that graphene with vacancies can be an ideal anchoring site for stabilizing isolated metal atoms owing to the strong metal-support interaction, forming stable TMCx or TMNx active centers (x = 3 or 4). Six SACs are screened as promising NRR catalyst candidates with excellent activity and selectivity during NRR, and RuN3 is identified as the optimal one with an overpotential of ≥0.10 V via the distal mechanism.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Er-Xian decoction on the autoimmune premature ovarian failure (POF) in mice, and its regulatory mechanisms. METHODS: Female BALB mice were treated with a single intraperitoneal injection of zona pellucida 3 (ZP3). One week later, mice received low (5 g/kg), moderate (10 g/kg) and high (20g/kg) doses of EXD by gastrogavage once daily for 90 d. Premarin (0.03 mg/kg) served as the positive control group. Serum levels of estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, lymphocyte subtypes were analyzed, and follicular structure differences were observed by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The main mechanisms of POF was investigated by immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS: Serum E2 levels in POF model mice were decreased, whereas FSH and LH levels were dramatically increased. Serum levels of LH and FSH were reduced in POF model mice treated with EXD (moderate and high doses) and premarin, while serum level of E2 were increased after POF model mice had been treated with EXD and premarin. The CD3+ T, CD4+ T, CD4+ T/CD8+ T ratio of mice in the positive control group and high and medium dose groups of EXD increased (P < 0.05), and the number of CD8 + T cells decreased significantly (P < 0.05) when compared with the model group. Bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) and Akt were repressed in autoimmune POF model mice, whereas high expression was observed in control mice and those treated with EXD (moderate and high doses) and premarin. CONCLUSION: EXD is effective in treating ZP3-induced POF in mice and increased expression of BMP-15, and Akt is represented in the mechanism accounting for this therapeutic effect.

PURPOSE: Incidence of contrast induced nephropathy (CIN) and related risk factors in patients with liver cancer and chronic kidney disease after trans-catheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is higher. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility and safety of TACE therapy in such patients. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 103 patients with liver cancer and chronic kidney disease who underwent TACE treatments. TACE was performed according to Seldinger's technique of arterial embolization with minor modifications. Based on CIN diagnostic criteria, patients were divided into non-CIN (n=89) and CIN (n=14) groups. Multiple clinical parameters were assessed for the two groups after TACE. Serum creatinine levels were measured 48-72 h after TACE. RESULTS: Tumor size (>5 cm), TACE frequency, contrast agent dosage, solitary kidney, volume of iodized oil used in the TACE (ml) and urea levels were significantly higher in CIN group in comparison with the non-CIN group, while serum albumin and haemoglobin levels were significantly lower. Multivariate logistic regression analysis confirmed that the volume of iodized oil and TACE frequency were significantly positively correlated, and serum albumin level was negatively correlated in the CIN group. CONCLUSION: Volume of iodized oil, TACE frequency and low serum albumin levels were found to be independent risk factors for CIN after TACE. Thus, it is safe and feasible for hepatocellular carcinoma patients with chronic kidney disease to receive TACE treatment, but adverse events management after TACE needs to be addressed.

Forest resource survey is important for the sustainable development of forest ecosystem in China. The average tree height is a main structural parameter of forest resource survey, and also one of the key parameters with greatest difficulty to obtain. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential of joint active and passive remote sensing technology in estimating forest average height. Taking Xixiaoshan Forest Farm in Linjiang City of Jilin Province as the research area, we used Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2A data, extracted two backscatter coefficients and eight texture information of Sentinel-1, ten spectral bands and texture information of Sentinel-2A and eleven vegetation index variables, constructed five groups of average tree height estimation models based on above variables and fusion of four variables by multiple linear regression method. We further evaluated the influence of each variable on the inversion accuracy. The results showed that the texture information extracted from the Sentinel-2A spectral band of a single data source variable had a better modeling effect and could be used as effective data to estimate the average tree height. The height estimation model of the integrated four variables was optimal, with a R2 vaule of 0.56, a root mean square error of leave-one-out cross-validation of 2.92 m, and a relative root mean square error of leave-one-out cross-validation of 21.5%. The forest average height model based on Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2a characteristic variables could improve the estimation accuracy of forest height, which could be used for regional forest average height estimation and mapping.

Phyllodiaptomus tunguidus (Copepoda: Calanoida) is largely endemic to and widespread in freshwater in southern China, where it inhabits a complex landscape from lowland to highland across an elevation gradient of 2000m. A deep genetic differentiation can be expected between its most distant geographic populations. Here, we sequenced nine mitogenomes from diverse populations. All mitogenomes contained 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCG), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and one control region. Their base composition, genetic distance and tRNA structure indeed revealed a wide differentiation between mitogenomes. Two P. tunguidus from Guangxi near Vietnam differed from the other seven by up to 10.1%. Their tRNA-Arg had a complete clover-leaf structure, whereas that of the others did not contain an entire dihydrouridine arm. The nine mitogenomes also differed in the length of rRNA. NJ, ML, and Bayesian analyses all split them into two clades, viz. the two P. tunguidus from Guangxi (Clade 1), and the other seven (Clade 2). Both the structure and phylogeny of the mitogenomes suggest that P. tunguidus has complex geographic origin, and its populations in Clade 1 have long lived in isolation from those in Clade 2. They currently reach the level of subspecies or cryptic species. An extensive phylogenetic analysis of Copepoda further verified that Diaptomidae is the most recently diverging family in Calanoida and that P. tunguidus is at the evolutionary apex of the family.

OBJECTIVES: To study the correlation of fractional anisotropy (FA) on magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging with Neonatal Behavioral Neurological Assessment (NBNA) score in preterm infants, and to study the role of FA in evaluating white matter development from the perspective of imaging. METHODS: A prospective study was performed for 98 preterm infants who were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University within 24 hours after birth from October 2016 to January 2020. According to the results of NBNA, they were divided into an abnormal group with 51 infants (NBNA score <37) and a normal group with 47 infants (NBNA score ≥37). The FA values of 10 regions of interest were collected and compared between the two groups. The correlations of FA value and umbilical arterial blood gas pH value with the NBNA score were analyzed. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, the abnormal group had significantly lower FA value of the posterior limb of the internal capsule and umbilical arterial blood pH (P<0.05). The FA value of the posterior limb of the internal capsule and umbilical arterial blood pH were positively correlated with the NBNA score (r=0.584 and 0.604 respectively, P<0.001), and the FA value of the posterior limb of the internal capsule was positively correlated with umbilical arterial blood pH (r=0.426, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The FA value of the posterior limb of the internal capsule can quantitatively reflect white matter development in preterm infants and is correlated with the NBNA score. The combination of the two indices can help to evaluate white matter development in preterm infants more accurately and objectively. Citation.

Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have a higher incidence rate of duodenal ulcers. The mucus barrier provides the first line of defense for duodenal mucosal protection. However, it is unknown whether duodenal mucus secretion is affected in PD. In the present study, we used the rats microinjected 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the bilateral substantia nigra to investigate duodenal mucus secretion and potential therapeutic targets in duodenal ulcer in PD. Alcian blue-periodic acid-Schiff, transmission electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, duodenal mucosal incubation, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were used. The 6-OHDA rats exhibited mucin accumulation and retention in duodenal goblet cells. Mucin granules were unable to fuse with the apical membranes of goblet cells, and the exocytosis ratio of goblet cells was significantly reduced. Moreover, decreased acetylcholine and increased muscarinic receptor 2 (M2R) levels were detected in the duodenal mucosa of 6-OHDA rats. Bilateral vagotomy rats were also characterized by defective duodenal mucus secretion and decreased acetylcholine with increased M2R levels in the duodenal mucosa. Application of the cholinomimetic drug carbachol or blocking M2R with methoctramine significantly promoted mucus secretion by goblet cells and increased MUC2 content in duodenal mucosa-incubated solutions from 6-OHDA and vagotomy rats. We conclude that the reduced acetylcholine and increased M2R contribute to the impaired duodenal mucus secretion of 6-OHDA rats. The study provides new insights into the mechanism of duodenal mucus secretion and potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of duodenal ulcers in PD patients.

Gastrointestinal probiotics play an important role in maintaining intestinal bacteria homeostasis. They might benefit people with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), which remains a global health challenge. However, there is a controversy regarding the efficacy of probiotics for the treatment of AIDS. This study systematically reviewed the evidence of the effects of existing probiotic interventions on AIDS and sought to provide information on the role of probiotics in the treatment of HIV/AIDS patients. A meta-analysis of studies identified by screening multiple databases was performed using a fixed-effects model in Review Manager 5.2 software. The meta-analysis showed that probiotics could reduce the incidence of AIDS-related diarrhea (RR = 0.60 (95% CI: 0.44-0.82), p = 0.001). The short-term use of probiotics (supplementation duration shorter than 30 days) did not reduce the incidence of diarrhea (RR = 0.76 (95% CI: 0.51-1.14), p = 0.19), while the long-term use of probiotics (supplementation duration longer than 30 days) reduced diarrhea (RR = 0.47 (95% CI: 0.29-0.76), p = 0.002). Probiotics had no effect on CD4 cell counts in HIV/AIDS patients (MD = 21.24 (95% CI: -12.95-55.39), p = 0.22). Our data support that probiotics were associated with an obvious reduction in AIDS-related diarrhea, which indicates the need for additional research on this potential preventive strategy for AIDS.

This work reports on a compositionally graded heterojunction for photovoltaic application by cooperating fluorine-doped carbon quantum dots (FCQDs in short) into the CsPbI2.5Br0.5 inorganic perovskite layer. Using this CsPbI2.5Br0.5/FCQDs graded heterojunction in conjunction with low-temperature-processed carbon electrode, a power conversion efficiency of 13.53% for 1 cm2 all-inorganic perovskite solar cell can be achieved at AM 1.5G solar irradiation. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the highest efficiency reported for carbon electrode based all-inorganic perovskite solar cells so far, and the first report of 1 cm2 carbon counter electrode based inorganic perovskite solar cell with PCE exceeding 13%. Moreover, the inorganic perovskite/carbon quantum dot graded heterojunction photovoltaics maintained over 90% of their initial efficiency after thermal aging at 85° for 1056 hours. This conception of constructing inorganic perovskite/FCQDs graded heterojunction offers a feasible pathway to develop efficient and stable photovoltaics for scale-up and practical applications.

Chenopodium album is an annual herb from Amaranthaceae with worldwide distribution. It is a leafy vegetable as well as an important subsidiary grain crop with high nutritional value and medicinal value. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of C. album. The total chloroplast genome was 152,167 bp in length, containing a large single-copy region (LSC, 83,676 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC, 18,105 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs, 25,193 bp). The complete chloroplast genome contains 110 genes, including 78 protein-coding genes, 28 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 4 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes with an overall GC content of 37.3%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. album was sister to C. acuminatum within Chenopodioideae. The complete chloroplast genome of C. album will provide useful resources for the development and utilization of this species and the phylogenetic study of Amaranthaceae.

Biomass conditioner made from agricultural and animal husbandry waste for resource disposal could be used to improve desertified soil, which is one of the effective ways of ecological management on desertified grasslands in northwest Sichuan. To clarify the effects of different raw material conditioners on alpine desertified grassland in northwest Sichuan, we analyzed the effects of three conditioners on soil nutrients and microbial community characteristics. With no conditioner as the control (CK), three different biomass conditioners were set up with an application rate of 12 t·hm-2, including mushroom dregs (JZ), straw (JG) and biochar (SWT). The results showed that all biomass conditioners could significantly increase soil available nutrients and active organic carbon by 23.0%-521.6%. Among the three conditioners, JG had the best effect, with an improvement range for soil nutrient and organic carbon of 65.1%-521.6%. Because biomass conditioner was only applied in the first year, soil available nutrients and active organic carbon in the second year decreased by 4.5%-92.3% compared with that of the first year, while soil organic carbon and microbial biomass carbon content of the second year increased by 5.6%-458.0%. The biomass conditioners changed the relative abundance of the dominant bacteria in the microbial community. JG significantly affected bacterial flora, while JG and JZ affected fungal flora. Compared with CK, JG significantly reduced the diversity of soil bacteria and fungi. The Shannon index was decreased by 2.9% and 31.8%, while the Simpson index was increased by 175.0% and 320.9%, respectively. Results of the redundancy analysis showed that the contents of soil available nutrients and active organic carbon were important factors affecting microbial community composition. The contents of soil nitrate and microbial biomass carbon had greater impacts on bacterial community composition, explaining 65.9% of community variations. The contents of soil available potassium and microbial biomass carbon had a greater impact on fungal community composition, explaining 83.2% of community variation. According to the comprehensive comparison, straw conditioner could significantly increase soil available nutrients and active organic carbon, and benefit the growth of beneficial bacteria and fungi, which could be used as a promotion measure to improve soil quality of alpine desertified grassland in northwest Sichuan.

Highly immunogenic exotoxins are used as carrier proteins because they efficiently improve the immunogenicity of polysaccharides. However, their efficiency with protein antigens remains unclear. In the current study, the candidate antigen PA0833 from Pseudomonas aeruginosa was fused to the α-hemolysin mutant HlaH35A from Staphylococcus aureus to form a HlaH35A-PA0833 fusion protein (HPF). Immunization with HPF resulted in increased PA0833-specific antibody titers, higher protective efficacy, and decreased bacterial burden and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion compared with PA0833 immunization alone. Using fluorescently labeled antigens to track antigen uptake and delivery, we found that HlaH35A fusion significantly improved antigen uptake in injected muscles and antigen delivery to draining lymph nodes. Both in vivo and in vitro studies demonstrated that the increased antigen uptake after immunization with HPF was mainly due to monocyte- and macrophage-dependent macropinocytosis, which was probably the result of HPF binding to ADAM10, the Hla host receptor. Furthermore, a transcriptome analysis showed that several immune signaling pathways were activated by HPF, shedding light on the mechanism whereby HlaH35A fusion improves immunogenicity. Finally, the improvement in immunogenicity by HlaH35A fusion was also confirmed with two other antigens, GlnH from Klebsiella pneumoniae and the model antigen OVA, indicating that HlaH35A could serve as a universal carrier protein to improve the immunogenicity of protein antigens.

Since the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) has received widespread attention as the cell receptor of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus. At the same time, as a key enzyme in the renin-angiotensin-system, ACE2 is considered to be an endogenous negative regulator of vasoconstriction, proliferation, fibrosis, and proinflammation caused by the ACE-angiotensin II-angiotensin type 1 receptor axis. ACE2 is now implicated as being closely connected to diabetes, cardiovascular, kidney, and lung diseases, and so on. This review covers the available information on the host factors regulating ACE2 and discusses its role in a variety of pathophysiological conditions in animal models and humans.

Upscaling efficient and stable perovskite layers is one of the most challenging issues in the commercialization of perovskite solar cells. Here, a lead halide-templated crystallization strategy is developed for printing formamidinium (FA)-cesium (Cs) lead triiodide perovskite films. High-quality large-area films are achieved through controlled nucleation and growth of a lead halide•N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone adduct that can react in situ with embedded FAI/CsI to directly form α-phase perovskite, sidestepping the phase transformation from δ-phase. A nonencapsulated device with 23% efficiency and excellent long-term thermal stability (at 85°C) in ambient air (~80% efficiency retention after 500 hours) is achieved with further addition of potassium hexafluorophosphate. The slot die-printed minimodules achieve champion efficiencies of 20.42% (certified efficiency 19.3%) and 19.54% with an active area of 17.1 and 65.0 square centimeters, respectively.

BACKGROUND: Despite extensive molecular epidemiological studies, the prevalence and characteristics of Mouse Mammary Tumor Virus-Like Virus (MMTV-LV) in Chinese women breast cancer are still unclear. Besides, the prevalence of MMTV-LV in women breast cancer tissue varies in different countries and its dependent factors remain inconclusive. METHODS: In the first part of the study, a case-control study was performed. 119 breast cancer samples (84 from Northern China and 35 from Southern China) and 50 breast fibroadenoma specimens were collected from Chinese women patients. MMTV-like env sequence and the homology to MMTV env gene were analysed by semi-nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR). We also explored the association of MMTV-LV prevalence with sample sources (Southern and Northern China) and patients' clinicopathological characteristics. To investigate the dependent factors of the prevalence of MMTV-LV in breast cancer worldwide, a meta-analysis was conducted in the second part of the study. RESULTS: We found that the prevalence of MMTV-LV was much higher in breast cancer tissues (17.65%) than that in breast fibroadenoma specimens (4.00%) (P < 0.05). MMTV-LV prevalence in Chinese women breast cancer tissues was significantly different between Southern China (5.71%) and Northern China (22.62%) (P < 0.05). The prevalence of MMTV-LV also associates significantly with expression of HER2, but shows no significant correlation with other parameters. In the meta-analysis, we found that MMTV-LV prevalence in breast cancer tissue was dependent on the distribution of M. domesticus mouse (M. d), M. musculus mouse (M.m) and M.castaneus mouse (M.c) worldwide (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The distribution of house mice may be a crucial environmental factor that explains the geographic differences in human breast cancer incidence. Our findings may provide a potential avenue of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Oral cancer is a malignant disease that threatenshuman life and greatly reducespatientquality of life. ANLN was reported to promote the progression of cancer. This study aims to investigate the role of ANLNin oral cancer and the underlying molecular mechanism. METHODS: ANLN expression was downregulated by RNAi technology. The effect of ANLN on cell behaviors, including proliferation, cell cycle progression, invasion, and apoptosis, was detected. Western blotting analysis was used to explore the mechanism by whichANLN functions in oral cancer. RESULTS: Data from TCGA database showed that ANLN was expressed at significantly higher levels in tumor tissues thanin normal control tissues. Patients with higher ANLN expression exhibitedshorter survivaltimes. ANLN was alsoabundantly expressedin the cancer cell lines CAL27 and HN30. When ANLN was knocked down in CAL27 and HN30 cells, cell proliferation and colony formation weredecreased. The cell invasion ability was also inhibited. However, the cell apoptosis rate was increased. In addition, the levels of critical members of the PI3K signaling pathway, includingPI3K, mTOR, Akt, and PDK-1, were significantlyreducedafter ANLN was knocked down in CAL27 cells. CONCLUSIONS: ANLN contributes to oral cancerprogressionand affects activation ofthe PI3K/mTOR signaling pathway. This study providesa new potential targetfor drug development and treatment in oral cancer.

Transcriptome differences between Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), which are all derived from B cell, remained unclear. This study aimed to construct lymphoma-specific diagnostic models by screening lymphoma marker genes. Transcriptome data of HL, DLBCL, and MCL were obtained from public databases. Lymphoma marker genes were screened by comparing cases and controls as well as the intergroup differences among lymphomas. A total of 9 HL marker genes, 7 DLBCL marker genes, and 4 MCL marker genes were screened in this study. Most HL marker genes were upregulated, whereas DLBCL and MCL marker genes were downregulated compared to controls. The optimal HL-specific diagnostic model contains one marker gene (MYH2) with an AUC of 0.901. The optimal DLBCL-specific diagnostic model contains 7 marker genes (LIPF, CCDC144B, PRO2964, PHF1, SFTPA2, NTS, and HP) with an AUC of 0.951. The optimal MCL-specific diagnostic model contains 3 marker genes (IGLV3-19, IGKV4-1, and PRB3) with an AUC of 0.843. The present study reveals the transcriptome data-based differences between HL, DLBCL, and MCL, when combined with other clinical markers, may help the clinical diagnosis and prognosis.

To accelerate the commercial application of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs), it is necessary to develop simple and low-cost methods to prepare pinhole-free large-area perovskite films with high quality. A one-step blade coating method is regarded as a scalable technique. It is demonstrated that with the addition of N,N'-dimethylpropyleneurea (DMPU) in an FA-dominated perovskite precursor, a large-area high-quality perovskite film can be obtained by blade coating, achieving improved photovoltaic performance, thermal stability, and storage stability. It is found that the strong interaction between DMPU and Pb2+ ions is beneficial to delay the nucleation crystallization process, increase the size of crystal grains, and improve the crystallinity of the perovskite film. Planar n-i-p solar cells introducing DMPU exhibit power conversion efficiencies of 20.20% for 0.16 cm2 devices and 17.71% for 5 × 5 cm2 modules with an aperture area of 10 cm2. In addition, the devices without encapsulation placed at 50 °C for 500 h and with a relative humidity of 20 ± 5% for 1000 h still maintain efficiencies above 80 and 90%, respectively, showing outstanding stability.

Background: Abnormal sleep duration predicts depression and anxiety. We seek to evaluate the impact of sleep duration before stroke on the occurrence of depression and anxiety at 3 months after acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: Nationally representative samples from the Third China National Stroke Registry were used to examine cognition and sleep impairment after AIS (CNSR-III-ICONS). Based on baseline sleep duration before onset of stroke as measured by using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), 1,446 patients were divided into four groups: >7, 6-7, 5-6, and <5 h of sleep. Patients were followed up with the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) for 3 months. Poststroke anxiety (PSA) was defined as GAD-7 of ≥5 and poststroke depression (PSD) as PHQ-9 of ≥5. The association of sleep duration with PSA and PSD was evaluated using multivariable logistic regression. Results: The incidences of PSA and PSD were 11.2 and 17.6% at 3 months, respectively. Compared to a sleep duration of >7 h, 5-6 h, and <5 h of sleep were identified as risk factors of PSA [odds ratio (OR), 1.95; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.24-3.07; P < 0.01 and OR, 3.41; 95% CI, 1.94-6.04; P < 0.01) and PSD (OR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.00-2.17; P = 0.04 and OR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.85-5.02; P < 0.01), while 6-7 h of sleep was associated with neither PSA (OR, 1.09; 95% CI, 0.71-1.67; P = 0.68) nor PSD (OR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.64-1.30; P = 0.64). In interaction analysis, the impact of sleep duration on PSA and PSD was not affected by gender (P = 0.68 and P = 0.29, respectively). Conclusions: Sleep duration of shorter than 6 h was predictive of anxiety and depression after ischemic stroke.
