RESUMO

The cell membrane permeability, morphology, metabolomics, and gene expression of Microcystis aeruginosa under various concentrations of succinic acid (SA) were evaluated to clarify the mechanism of SA inhibition of M. aeruginosa. The results showed that SA caused intracellular protein and nucleic acid extravasation by increasing the cell membrane permeability. Scanning electron microscopy suggested that a high dose of SA (60 mg L-1) could damage the cell membrane and even cause lysis in some cells. Metabolomics result demonstrated that change in intracellular lipids content was the main reason for the increase of cell membrane permeability. In addition, SA could negatively affect amino acids metabolism, inhibit the biosynthesis of nucleotides, and interfere with the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle of algal cells. Furthermore, SA also affected N assimilation and caused oxidative damage to Microcystis. In conclusion, SA inhibits the growth of M. aeruginosa through multisite action.

RESUMO

Olaquindox (OLA) has been widely used as an animal feed additive in China for decades; however, its toxicity and toxic mechanisms have not been well investigated. In this study, the developmental neurotoxicity and toxic mechanisms of OLA were evaluated in zebrafish. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to different concentrations of OLA (25-1,000 mg/L) from 6 to 120 hours post fertilization (hpf). OLA exposure resulted in many abnormal phenotypes in zebrafish, including shortened body length, notochord degeneration, spinal curvature, brain apoptosis, damage of axon and peripheral motor neuron, and hepatotoxicity. Interestingly, OLA increased zebrafish spontaneous tail coiling, while reduced locomotor capacity. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Q-PCR) showed that the expression levels of nine marker genes for nervous system functions or development, namely, α1-tubulin, glial fibrillary acidic protein (gfap), myelin basic protein (mbp), synapsinII a (syn2a), sonic hedgehog a (shha), encoding HuC (elavl3), mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (manf) growth associated protein 43 (gap43), and acetylcholinesterase (ache) were all down-regulated significantly in zebrafish after treated with OLA. Besides, the anti-apoptotic and pro-apoptotic genes bcl-2/bax ratio was reduced. These results show that OLA exposure could cause severe developmental neurotoxicity in the early stages of zebrafish life and OLA might induce neurotoxicity by inhibiting the expression of neuro-developmental genes and promoting apoptosis.

RESUMO

Three species of geckos in the genus Goniurosaurus have been recorded from Hainan Island in China. We describe a new species, Goniurosaurus kwanghua sp. nov. Zhu He, bringing the number of this genus in Hainan Island to four. We conducted phylogenetic analyses with two mitochondrial genes (16S Cytb) and two nuclear genes (RAG1 C-MOS) to validate this new species. The new species is similar to G. hainanensis, but differs in the following characters: (1) middle section of the nuchal loop wide and posteriorly protracted, (2) wider body bands with dark markings, (3) yellow stripes on posterior side of humerus and femur, linked to the first and third body bands, respectively. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

RESUMO

Five species of geckos in the genus Goniurosaurus had been recorded from Guangxi, China. Here we describe a new species, Goniurosaurus gezhi sp. nov. Zhu, He Li. The new species is similar to those found in Guangxi and Guizhou provinces of China and Northern Vietnam, but unique in a combination of the following characters: (1) three body bands between limb insertions; (2) precloacal pores 18-20; (3) body small (SVL=70.6-83.8 mm); (4) body color orange to yellow. We evaluated the phylogenetic position of this new species based on the 16S mitochondrial gene. Molecular phylogenies validate this new species as distinct to currently described lineages within Goniurosaurus. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

RESUMO

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is an important marine osmolyte. Aphotic environments are only recently being considered as potential contributors to global DMSP production. Here, our Mariana Trench study reveals a typical seawater DMSP/dimethylsulfide (DMS) profile, with highest concentrations in the euphotic zone and decreased but consistent levels below. The genetic potential for bacterial DMSP synthesis via the dsyB gene and its transcription is greater in the deep ocean, and is highest in the sediment.s DMSP catabolic potential is present throughout the trench waters, but is less prominent below 8000 m, perhaps indicating a preference to store DMSP in the deep for stress protection. Deep ocean bacterial isolates show enhanced DMSP production under increased hydrostatic pressure. Furthermore, bacterial dsyB mutants are less tolerant of deep ocean pressures than wild-type strains. Thus, we propose a physiological function for DMSP in hydrostatic pressure protection, and that bacteria are key DMSP producers in deep seawater and sediment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous subretinal hemorrhage (SSRH) is a rare disease that severely affects the visual function, and is difficult to diagnose. This study aimed to describe the multimodality imaging characteristics of SSRH in a young male patient. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old male was presented to our hospital with "sudden drop of left eye vision for one week." Three weeks ago, he was admitted to other hospital due to sudden severe pain and unclear vision in the left eye for 1 h. The intraocular pressure was 69 mmHg, and the blood pressure was 230/120 mmHg. Skull CT and MRI detected abnormal signal shadows in the left eye and no abnormalities in the brain. B-ultrasonography indicated occupying lesions in the left eye. Two weeks later, the patient came to our hospital for treatment as the vision of the left eye had decreased sharply. Admission examination: blood pressure was 200/120 mmHg, best-corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in the right eye and hand motion in the left eye. Fundus details could not be evaluated in the left eye because of hemorrhage in the vitreous cavity. B-ultrasonography of the left eye revealed a dense, diffuse intravitreal hemorrhage. Skull MRI showed an abnormal signal shadow in the left eyeball, suggesting intraocular hemorrhage. Vitrectomy revealed a dome-shaped lesion in the peripheral part of the inferotemporal region during the operation. Postoperative indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) of the lesion showed hypofluorescence and no leakage or altered morphology during the whole imaging process. Follow-up showed gradual reabsorption of SSRH. CONCLUSIONS: In this case, SSRH was considered to be associated with high blood pressure. Multimodal imaging provides accurate data for the diagnosis and follow-up of the disease.

RESUMO

The Earth's oceans are a huge body of water with physicochemical properties and microbial community profiles that change with depth, which in turn influences their biogeochemical cycling potential. The differences between microbial communities and their functional potential in surface to hadopelagic water samples are only beginning to be explored. Here, we used metagenomics to investigate the microbial communities and their potential to drive biogeochemical cycling in seven different water layers down the vertical profile of the Challenger Deep (0-10,500 m) in the Mariana Trench, the deepest natural point in the Earth's oceans. We recovered 726 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) affiliated to 27 phyla. Overall, biodiversity increased in line with increased depth. In addition, the genome size of MAGs at ≥4000 m layers was slightly larger compared to those at 0-2000 m. As expected, surface waters were the main source of primary production, predominantly from Cyanobacteria. Intriguingly, microbes conducting an unusual form of nitrogen metabolism were identified in the deepest waters (>10,000 m), as demonstrated by an enrichment of genes encoding proteins involved in dissimilatory nitrate to ammonia conversion (DNRA), nitrogen fixation and urea transport. These likely facilitate the survival of ammonia-oxidizing archaea α lineage, which are typically present in environments with a high ammonia concentration. In addition, the microbial potential for oxidative phosphorylation and the glyoxylate shunt was enhanced in >10,000 m waters. This study provides novel insights into how microbial communities and their genetic potential for biogeochemical cycling differs through the Challenger deep water column, and into the unique adaptive lifestyle of microbes in the Earth's deepest seawater.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) in the treatment of Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML). METHODS: The clinical data of 5 children with JMML who were treated with unrelated UCBT from October 2011 to July 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The age of onset for the five children (male) ranged from 0.4 to 5.0 years old, with a median age of 1.5 years old. All the patients received myeloablative conditioning regimen without ATG to whom cyclosporine A (CsA) with short-term mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) was given for GVHD prophylaxis. RESULTS: Four children acquired engraftment. One patient received secondary haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation because of the failure in the first unrelated UCBT. Grade Ⅲ to Ⅳ aGVHD occurred in 2 cases and was controlled, and none of the patients developed cGVHD. Three cases achieved long-time disease free survival, and no patient relapsed. CONCLUSION: UCBT is an effective treatment for children with JMML.

RESUMO

Purpose: Injectable ceftriaxone and oral cefixime are the last agents effective against Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In vitro antimicrobial-susceptibility testing (AST) is done to identify the most efficacious antibiotic needed to combat the infection in that particular individual. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether Kirby-Bauer (KB) disk-diffusion tests can detect N. gonorrhoeae isolates that have decreased susceptibility to ceftriaxone and cefixime for appropriate clinical management. Methods: A total of 1,633 consecutive clinical isolates of N. gonorrhoeae were collected from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2017 from seven dermatology clinics located in five provinces in China. Consistency between KB disk-diffusion tests and the agar-dilution method, as well as sensitivity of the KB test for detecting N. gonorrhoeae isolates with decreased susceptibility to ceftriaxone and cefixime, were determined using 1,306 clinical isolates that had been recovered to complete agar-dilution AST. Results: The prevalence of isolates with decreased susceptibility to ceftriaxone and cefixime was 12.1% (198 of 1,633) and 12.7% (208 of 1,633), respectively, using KB disk-diffusion tests. The prevalence of isolates with decreased susceptibility was 9.9% (129 of 1,306) for ceftriaxone and 9.9% (129 of 1,305) for cefixime using agar-dilution AST. The categorical agreement of these two methods was 80.9% for both ceftriaxone and cefixime. Compared to agar-dilution AST, the sensitivity of the KB test for detecting N. gonorrhoeae isolates with decreased susceptibility was 22.5% (29 of 129) for ceftriaxone and 29.5% (38 of 129) for cefixime, and its specificity 87.3% (1,028 of 1,177) for ceftriaxone and 86.7% (1,018 of 1,176) for cefixime. Conclusion: Although KB tests are easy to carry out in clinical practice, their ability to detect cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhoea strains is limited. This method is not an appropriate selection for screening cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhoea strains in clinical practice in China.

RESUMO

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (N. gonorrhoeae) becomes a grave public health problem in the world. A strengthened Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program is needed to track the trend of AMR development. However, the lack of a proper antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) method is a barrier to expand the AMR surveillance in China. Traditional agar dilution (AD) method is laborious and E-test strips have no approval license for clinical use. Herein, a Chinese group modified the microdilution (MD) method for clinical ASTs. The objective of this study is to compare the MD method with the AD method for N. gonorrhoeae AST. Materials and Methods: A total of 166 clinical isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility of ceftriaxone, spectinomycin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and penicillin using MD and AD method simultaneously. Results of MD method were read manually or automatically. Rates of essential agreement (EA), category agreement (CA), minor error, and very major error were compared. Results: The total EAs (compared with results read manually) of penicillin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, spectinomycin, ceftriaxone, and azithromycin were 90.4%, 97.0%, 85.5%, 100.0%, 94%, and 72.3%; and CAs were 82.5%, 94.0%, 100%, 100%, 95.2%, and 94%, respectively. Conclusion: We conclude that the MD method might be an alternative for clinical AST of N. gonorrhoeae in China. In particular, MD method has the potency of accurate differentiation of isolates resistant to ceftriaxone or azithromycin, which were empirically recommended for gonococcal treatment, but its quality remained suboptimal, and further improvement is needed for clinical use.

RESUMO

Conventional mammalian ischemic stroke models for drug screening are technically challenging, laborious and time-consuming. In this study, using Ponatinib as an inducer, we developed and characterized a zebrafish ischemic stroke model. This zebrafish ischemic stroke had the cerebral vascular endothelial injury, thrombosis, reduced blood flow, inflammation and apoptosis as well as the reduced motility. The zebrafish ischemic stroke model was validated with 6 known human therapeutic drugs of ischemic stroke (Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Naoxintong capsules, Edaravone, Xingnaojing injection, Shuxuening injection). The mRNA levels of the neovascularization-related gene (vegfaa) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor gene (VEGFR), neurodevelopment related genes (mbp and α1-tubulin), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial cell derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) were significantly downregulated; whereas apoptosis-related genes (caspase-3, caspase-7, caspase-9 and bax/bcl-2), and inflammatory factor genes (IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α and NF-κB) were remarkably upregulated in the model. These results suggest that the pathophysiology of Ponatinib-induced zebrafish ischemic stroke is similar to that of human ischemic stroke patients and this whole animal model could be used to study the complex cellular and molecular pathogenesis of ischemic stroke and to rapidly identify therapeutic agents.

RESUMO

In the current revision of neonatal resuscitation training course material and its in-depth learning, referring to the American original textbook on neonatal resuscitation, the authors have some recognition and discussion about its several technical details or translated words. These include the location and time period of postnatal rapid assessment, the expression of respiratory questions, the pressing position in the tracheal intubation, and the expression of respiratory questions in the flow chart of resuscitation, etc. The accurate understanding and interpretation of the above will help grass-roots training to be carried out more accurately and effectively.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of O-arm-guided minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation combined with percutaneous kyphoplasty for metastatic spinal tumors with posterior wall destruction. METHODS: Patients who underwent minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation combined with percutaneous kyphoplasty for pathological vertebral fractures with posterior wall defects from January 2015 to December 2017 were followed up for 1 year. Visual analogue scale (VAS), SF-36 scores, middle vertebral height, posterior vertebral height, and the accuracy of pedicle screws were assessed preoperatively, postoperatively, and 1 year after surgery. The operation time, time from operation to discharge, blood loss, volume of bone cement, and leakage of bone cement were recorded. RESULTS: Twenty-three patients (13 females and 10 males) who met our criteria were followed up for 1 year. The operation time of these patients was 162.61 ± 33.47 min, the amount of bleeding was 230.87 ± 93.76 mL, the time from operation to discharge was 4.35 ± 2.42 days, and the volume of bone cement was 3.67 ± 0.63 mL. The VAS score decreased from 7.04 ± 1.07 to 2.65 ± 0.93 before surgery (P = 0.000) and remained at 2.57 ± 0.79 1 year after surgery. Compared with the preoperative SF-36 scores for physical pain, physiological function, energy, and social function, the postoperative scores were significantly improved (P = 0.000). The height of the middle vertebral body increased from 14.47 ± 2.96 mm before surgery to 20.18 ± 2.94 mm (P = 0.000), and remained at 20.44 to 3.01 mm 1 year after surgery. The height of the posterior vertebral body increased from 16.56 ± 3.07 mm before operation to 22.79 ± 4.00 mm (P = 0.000), and 22.45 ± 3.88 mm 1 year after surgery. The 23 patients had a total of 92 pedicle screws; 85 screws were Grade A and 7 screws were Grade B. There was no leakage of bone cement after surgery. CONCLUSION: In the short term, O-arm-guided minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation combined with kyphoplasty is safe and effective in the treatment of metastatic spinal tumors with posterior wall destruction.

RESUMO

The study recruited 168 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Perceived Deficits Questionnaire for Depression (PDQ-D) were lower and the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) was higher in the community volunteers than those in MDD patients. Depression-related scores (17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAMD-17], Clinical Global Impressions-Severity of Illness Scale [CGI-S], and PHQ-9), functioning-related scores (Sheehan Disability Scale [SDS]), and Work Efficiency and Activity Damage-Specific Health Problems questionnaire work productivity loss were decreased, and the quality of life-related scores (European Quality of life-5 Dimensions [EQ-5D] utility score) were increased in the MDD patients. PDQ-D was decreased and DSST was increased with the increase of follow-up time. Linear regression indicated that cognitive symptoms (PDQ-D and DSST) improved more slowly than depressive symptoms (PHQ-9). At baseline, PDQ-D was related with functioning (SDS and work productivity loss). PDQ-D and DSST were related with EQ-5D utility score. In addition, at month 6, PDQ-D was related with functioning (SDS and work productivity loss) and EQ-5D utility score. Cognitive impairment might be a risk for MDD and MDD-related changes in the functioning and quality of life.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ceftriaxone resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae has become an imminent threat to effective control of gonorrhoea globally. In recent years, the ceftriaxone-resistant FC428 clone has shown international dissemination. After our first report of the FC428 clone in China in 2016, we now describe another six cases of FC428-related ceftriaxone-resistant N. gonorrhoeae isolates from 2017 and 2018. OBJECTIVES: To identify the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of newly reported ceftriaxone-resistant isolates in China and to investigate the relationship between these isolates and FC428 clones reported globally. METHODS: Antimicrobial susceptibility to ceftriaxone, cefixime, azithromycin, spectinomycin, penicillin, ciprofloxacin and tetracycline was determined by the agar dilution method. N. gonorrhoeae multi-antigen sequence typing (NG-MAST), MLST and N. gonorrhoeae sequence typing for antimicrobial resistance (NG-STAR) were performed for genotyping and SNPs extracted from whole-genome sequences were used for phylogenetic analysis. RESULTS: All isolates were resistant to ceftriaxone, cefixime, penicillin, tetracycline and ciprofloxacin, but were susceptible to azithromycin and spectinomycin. NG-MAST, MLST and NG-STAR genotyping showed that all isolates shared identical or similar STs (<10 bp difference) to FC428 (NG-MAST ST3435, MLST ST1903, NG-STAR ST233) and contained the same mosaic penA allele 60.001. Phylogenetic analysis showed the Chinese isolates spreading in the whole phylogenetic tree and fully mixed with other international isolates. Half of the Chinese isolates were more closely related (<100 SNPs) to Japanese isolates than other international isolates. CONCLUSIONS: The newly reported cases in China were related to the internationally spreading FC428 clone. These isolates might have played a central role in international transmission of the FC428 clone. High ceftriaxone doses (1-2 g) still provide effective therapy.

RESUMO

Fenobucarb (2-sec-butylphenyl methylcarbamate, BPMC) is an extensively used carbamate insecticide. Its developmental neurotoxicity and the underlying mechanisms have not been well investigated. In this study, zebrafish embryos were exposed to various concentrations of BPMC from 6 hpf (hours post fertilization, hpf) to 120 hpf. BPMC induced developmental toxicity with reduced motility in larval zebrafish. The spinal cord neutrophil infiltration, increased ROS production, caspase 3 and 9 activation, central nerve and peripheral motor neuron damage, axon and myelin degeneration were observed in zebrafish treated with BPMC generally in a dose-dependent manner. The expression of eight marker genes for nervous system function or development, namely, a1-tubulin, shha, elavl3, gap43, syn2a, gfap, mbp and manf, was significantly downregulated following BPMC exposure. AChE activity reduction and ache gene expression suppression was also found significantly in BPMC-treated zebrafish. These results indicate that BPMC is highly toxic to zebrafish and that BPMC induces zebrafish developmental neurotoxicity through pathways involved in inflammation, oxidative stress, degeneration and apoptosis.

RESUMO

We report a recent (2018) gonorrhoeal urethritis caused by a multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae strain in China. The isolated N. gonorrhoeae strain from a male and female pair expressed high-level resistance to spectinomycin (SPC), azithromycin, and other antibiotics but was sensitive to ceftriaxone. The SPC high-level resistance (MIC = 2048 mg/L) was due to a small deletion in rspE that caused two amino acid changes in ribosomal protein S5.

RESUMO

Introduction: Current consensus recommends a protective effect of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection on relapse after peripheral blood or bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. However, in cord blood transplantation (CBT), studies of CMV infection, especially CMV viral load, on relapse are limited. Patients and Methods: Wct e retrospectively analyzed the effect of CMV infection on 3-year outcomes in 249 AML patients according to CMV DNA load (DNA copies <1000/mL and DNA copies ≧1000/mL) within 100 days after CBT. Furthermore, eight-colour flow cytometry was used to detect peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in 38 patients who received CBT in the last year, and 10 healthy volunteers were included as controls. Results: The results showed that CMV DNA load did not affect the cumulative incidence of relapse in the whole study population. However, in patients with complete remission status before transplantation, the high CMV DNA load group showed a significantly reduction of relapse than the low CMV DNA load group (3.9% vs 14.6%, p=0.012, respectively), which was confirmed by multivariate analysis (HR 0.23; 95% CI, 0.07-0.73, p = 0.012). Surprisingly, high or low CMV DNA load did not significantly affect non-relapse mortality or overall survival (18.0% vs 17.0%, p=0.777 and 79.0% vs 74.6%, p=0.781, respectively). Besides, the absolute number of CD8+ T cells were increased in the high CMV DNA load group compared with the low DNA load group 1 month after CBT (0.20×109/L vs 0.10×109/L, p=0.021, respectively). Conclusion: DNA copies ≧1000/mL for AML patients in complete remission was associated with a lower incidence of relapse after CBT, which might partly result from the expansion of CMV-related CD8+ T cells.

RESUMO

In the current study, corn steep liquor (CSL) is evaluated as an ideal raw agro-material for efficient lipid and docosahexaenoic acid DHA production by Aurantiochytrium sp. Low CSL level in medium (nitrogen deficiency) stimulated the biosynthesis of lipids and DHA while inhibiting cellular growth. The transcriptomic profiles of the Aurantiochytrium sp. cells are analyzed and compared when cultured under high (H group), normal (N group), and low (L group) levels of CSL in the medium. The discriminated transcriptomic profiles from the three groups indicates that changes in CSL level in medium result in a global change in transcriptome of Aurantiochytrium sp. The overall de novo assembly of cDNA sequence data generated 61,163 unigenes, and 18,129 of them were annotated in at least one database. A total of 5105 differently expressed (DE) genes were found in the N group versus the H group, with 2218 downregulated and 2887 upregulated. A total of 3625 DE genes were found in the N group versus the L group, with 1904 downregulated and 1721 upregulated. The analysis and categorization of the DE genes indicates that the regulation mechanism of CSL involved in the perception and transduction of the limited nitrogen signal, the interactions between the transcription factors (TFs) and multiple downstream genes, and the variations in downstream genes and metabolites, in sequence, are illuminated for the first time in the current study.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA load on immune reconstitution and clinical outcomes of patients after unrelated cord blood transplantation (UCBT). METHODS: Eight-color flow cytometry was used to dynamically monitor the changes of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets of 41 patients at one year after UCBT, and 10 healthy volunteers were enroled as controls. Patients were divided into two groups according to the DNA load of CMV (DNA copies <1000/ml and DNA copies ≥1000/ml). Comparative analyse of the effect of CMV DNA load on lymphocyte subsets and transplantation outcomes were carried out after transplantation. RESULTS: The high CMV DNA load group showed a faster and expanded T cell reconstitution, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant at one and nine months after transplantation (0.38×109 /L vs 0.25×109 /L, P=0.015 and 2.53×109 /L vs 1.36×109 /L, P=0.006, respectively). Further analysis of T cell subsets suggested that CD8+ T cells presented a higher and faster recovery in the high DNA load group, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant at one and nine months after transplantation (0.20×109 /L vs 0.10×109 /L, P=0.038 and 1.62×109 /L vs 0.68×109 /L, P=0.003, respectively). In addition, there were no significant differences in levels of B cells, regulatory B cells and NK cells between the two groups. Outcomes after one- and a-half-year transplantation showed that there were no significant difference in relapse, non-relapse mortality and overall survival between the high and the low DNA load groups (7.7% vs 7.5%) (P=0.900) (15.4% vs 21.4%) (P=0.686) and (76.9% vs 78.6%) (P=0.889) respectively. CONCLUSION: The high CMV DNA load induces a faster and long-lasting expansion of T cells, mainly as the expansion of CD8+ T cells after UCBT. Besides, under the current pre-emptive treatment of CMV, the high CMV DNA load does not affect the early survival of patients with acute myeloid leukemia after UCBT.
