BACKGROUND: The perioperative administration of dexmedetomidine may improve the quality of recovery (QoR) after major abdominal and spinal surgeries. We evaluated the effect of an intraoperative bolus of dexmedetomidine on postoperative pain, emergence agitation, and the QoR after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. METHODS: Patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomized to receive dexmedetomidine 0.5 µg/kg 5 minutes after anesthesia induction (dexmedetomidine group, n = 45) or normal saline (control group, n = 45). The primary outcome was the QoR at the first postoperative day using a 40-item scoring system (QoR-40). Secondary outcomes included intraoperative hemodynamic parameters, postoperative agitation, pain, and nausea and vomiting. RESULTS: The heart rate and the mean blood pressure were significantly lower in the dexmedetomidine group than in the control group (P < .001 and .007, respectively). During extubation, emergence agitation was significantly lower in the dexmedetomidine group than in the control group (23% vs 64%, P < .001). The median pain scores in the post-anesthetic care unit were significantly lower in the dexmedetomidine group than in the control group (4 [2-7] vs 5 [4-7], P = .034). The incidence of postoperative agitation, pain, and nausea and vomiting was not different between the groups. On the first postoperative day, recovery profile was similar between the groups. However, the scores on the emotional state and physical comfort dimensions were significantly higher in the dexmedetomidine group than in the control group (P = .038 and .040, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: A bolus dose of dexmedetomidine after anesthesia induction may improve intraoperative hemodynamics, emergence agitation, and immediate postoperative analgesia. However, it does not affect overall QoR-40 score after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Acute cholecystitis (AC) is a common surgical condition requiring emergency hospitalization. Diabetic patient with gall stones disease is more prone to develop acute cholecystitis and its complications e.g. mucocele, empyema, gangrene and perforation. Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (ELC) has proved to be an effective and safe day case surgical procedure for AC and their complications. This cross sectional study of diabetic patients admitted with acute cholecystitis, at the Department of Surgery of Bangladesh Institute of Researcher of Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorder (BIRDEM) General Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh from March 2016 to January 2017. A total number of 50 patients of known diabetes of acute cholecystitis were recruited irrespective of their age and sex and by excluding pregnant woman, obstructed jaundice and severe cardiopulmonary disease. More than half (52.0%) of the cholecystitis patients belonged to 31-40 years with mean age was 52.5±12.1 years. Females were predominant in this study (68.0%) with male: female ratio was 1:2.1. All (100%) patents had pain in right hypochondrium but relatively lower than non-diabetic patient due to diabetic neuropathy followed by majority 74.0% had nausea/vomiting, 70.0% had history of flatulence and dyspepsia, 62.0% had Murphy's sign positive. Thirty (60.0%) patients had glycaemic control and 20(40.0%) had uncontrolled DM. Insulin received patients were 35(70.0%) and 15 took oral hypoglycemic drug. Regarding postoperative complication, 8.0% had severe vomiting, right hypochondriac pain, 4.0% had wound sepsis and 2.0% had decreased pulmonary function and mild chest infection. In this study among laparoscopic finding during operation age and sex were not statistically significant. There was no mortality; laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the safe, accepted and preferred method of treatment for acute cholecystitis.

Background: Gallstone disease is a common problem and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is a common elective procedure. This operation was performed by a general surgeon, colorectal surgeons, breast and vascular surgeons according to the largest UK's audit (CholeS study). Objectives: To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a specialist upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgeon to that of CholeS and large international studies. Our hypothesis is: UGI specialist is producing better outcomes for LC patients. Methods: All patient who underwent LC between 1999 and 2019 at one hospital by an UGI consultant and 2014-2019 at another hospital by another UGI consultant surgeon were included. The inclusion criteria were LC performed by UGI surgeon. Lost to follow up, procedures done by trainees and gallbladder cancer patients were excluded. The outcome measures of bile leak, bile duct injuries, bleeding, infectious complications, bowel injuries, vascular injuries and pseudoaneurysms, neuralgia, port site hernia, mesenteric haematoma, 30-day mortality and conversion to open were reported. Statistical tests were used to assess the significant differences, the confidence interval was 95% and the p-value was taken as 0.05. Results: Two UGI specialists performed 5122 LC, 4396 (86%) were female and 715 (14%) male. The age was 13-93 year (median of 48 years). 3681 (72 %) was done as a day surgery case. 1431(28%) as an inpatient and 287 (5.6%) emergency LC. There was no death in the 30 days periods of surgery, 8 (0.15%) biliary leak from the duct of Luschka, 4 (0.19%) common bile duct (CBD) injuries, 9(0.02%) conversions and 17(0.33%) procedures were abandoned. There were significant differences in the above complications between our study and the CholeS report. Conclusions: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is associated with acceptable outcomes, low risk of bile duct injury and no mortality when performed by a specialist upper GI surgeon.

Introduction: Biliary lithiasis (LB) is a very frequent problem in the daily consultation of a general surgeon, so currently, 10 to 15% of the adult population in the experienced countries has LB. Methodology: A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was carried out with patients sometimes having a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a period between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. The main objective of this study is to determine the differences in the risk scoring means of difficult cholecystectomy according to the conversion to open surgery in patients diagnosed with symptomatic biliary lithiasis. Results: Through the registered data, it can be said that being a man, with a leukocyte count> 12,000 mm3, with a BMI> 30, the presence of choledocholithiasis and a greater gallbladder cut with 3 mm are factors that increase the risk of conversion to open surgery in this series of patients. It is feasible and safe to use this score to determine the patients with the highest risk of conversion since all the independent factors identified are not modifiable. Conclusion: In short, being a man, with a leukocyte count> 10,000 mm3, with a BMI> 30, the presence of choledocholithiasis and a gallbladder wall greater than 3 mm are factors that increase the risk of conversion to open surgery in a series of patients undergoing video laparoscopy. in a university hospital and it is feasible and safe to use this score to identify those patients with the highest risk of conversion.

RESUMO

A young, healthy woman presented to the emergency department multiple times with right upper quadrant pain and subjective fevers for over a year after her laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The patient required multiple hospital visits and extensive work-ups before finally being diagnosed with retained gallstones in her abdomen. After surgical removal of the stones, her symptoms resolved completely. The case highlights the challenges in diagnosing retained gallstones, the substantial burdens they can impose on patients, and the importance of prevention and thorough documentation.

INTRODUCTION: Bile duct injuries (BDIs) that occur after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) are among the most serious iatrogenic injuries and have high morbidity and mortality. They significantly impact the quality of life of the patient. They are one of the most common causes of benign biliary strictures, which can result in serious complications such as recurrent cholangitis or secondary biliary cirrhosis. Although LC is a common operation today, the incidence of BDIs associated with LC is twice that of BDIs resulting from open cholecystectomies. CASE REPORT: In this paper, we present a case report of a patient after LC with the Class III-D injury according to the Stewart-Way classification. The injury was a result of a misleading description from a preoperative ultrasonography and a subsequent misunderstanding of the anatomical conditions of a patient with congenital gallbladder agenesis. The BDI was recognised first day after surgery. Thanks to a prompt transfer to our centre the patient was in a good condition. Biliary reconstruction could be done because there was no serious inflammation or biliary peritonitis at the time of reoperation. Due to the extent of the injury a Roux-en-Y tri-hepaticojejunostomy combined with external transhepatic biliary drains was performed. CONCLUSION: Iatrogenic BDI after a LC is a rare, but potentially life-threatening complication. The main risk factor is the presence of anatomical variants of the biliary tract. Early recognition and treatment in a department with adequately experienced hepatobiliary specialists are crucial for a positive outcome. The most frequent surgical treatment is a Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the criteria of smooth postoperative period after cholecystectomy and risk factors of local surgical infection. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective analysis included 680 patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We assessed incidence and risk factors of infectious complications. Major markers of acute inflammation, ultrasonic features of surgical site in early postoperative period were analyzed. RESULTS: Postoperative infectious complications developed in 35 patients (5.1%). All studied risk factors except an age (obesity, cardiorespiratory diseases, surgery time over 150 min, violation of the principles of antibiotic therapy, intraoperative blood loss over 50 ml, drainage time over 5 days) significantly affected the development of infectious complications. Surgery time over 150 min and violation of the principles of antibiotic therapy were the most significant factors. Serum procalcitonin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were characterized by the highest prognostic value on the 3rd postoperative day. Threshold values were defined. CONCLUSION: Surgery time and violation of the rules of antibiotic prophylaxis were the most significant risk factors of postoperative infectious complications. We determined the criteria of smooth postoperative period: procalcitonin <1.5 mg/l, C-reactive protein <50 mg/l, erythrocyte sedimentation rate <39 mm/h, ultrasonic pattern of hypoechoic accumulation within the bed of the bladder (dimension <10 mm) without signs of intestinal insufficiency, abdominal or subhepatic effusion on the 3rd day after surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To substantiate the advisability of using cytoflavin to correct postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in patients undergoing video laparoscopic cholecystectomy (VLCE) under conditions of inhalation anesthesia with sevoflurane. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The data of two representative groups of patients (n=60) who underwent video-laparoscopic cholecystectomy under the conditions of inhalation anesthesia with sevoflurane were analyzed. At the stages of the perioperative period, in order to monitor the state of higher mental functions, neuropsychological testing was performed: anxiety and depression scales (HADS), the Montreal scale of cognitive dysfunction (MoCA), and frontal dysfunction batteries (FAB). Patients of the first group (n=19) were not corrected for POKD. For the correction of cognitive impairment, patients of the second group (n=41) were treated with Cytoflavin according to the 20 ml regimen per 250 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution intravenously once before the operation, then within 4 days of the postoperative period. RESULTS: Neuropsychological testing in group I patients revealed the development of moderate POCD. The inclusion of Cytoflavin in the treatment regimen in the II group of patients contributed to an improvement in the state of HMF, accompanied by a decrease in the level of anxiety and depression. CONCLUSION: The inclusion of Cytoflavin in treatment regimens helps prevent the development of POKD and is accompanied by an improvement in the state of higher mental functions, which is manifested by a decrease in the level of anxiety and depression, favorably affecting the emotional background of patients.

Several studies have reported short-term results for post-cholecystectomy symptoms and quality of life (QoL). However, reports on long-term results are still limited. This study aimed to identify risk factors affecting short- and long-term patient-reported outcome (PRO) following laparoscopic cholecystectomy.From 2016 to 2017, a total of 476 patients from 5 institutions were enrolled. PRO was examined using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) pain score and the Gastrointestinal (GI) QoL Index questionnaire at postoperative 1 month and 1 year.Most of patients recovered well at postoperative 1 year compared to postoperative 1 month for the NRS pain score, QoL score, and GI symptoms. A high operative difficulty score (HR 1.740, P = .031) and pathology of acute or complicated cholecystitis (HR 1.524, P = .048) were identified as independent risk factors for high NRS pain scores at postoperative 1 month. Similarly, female sex (HR 1.571, P = .003) at postoperative 1 month and postoperative complications (HR 5.567, P = .001) at postoperative 1 year were independent risk factors for a low QoL. Also, age above 50 (HR 1.842, P = .001), female sex (HR 1.531, P = .006), and preoperative gallbladder drainage (HR 3.086, P = .001) were identified as independent risk factors for GI symptoms at postoperative 1 month.Most patients showed improved long-term PRO measurement in terms of pain, QoL, and GI symptoms. There were no independent risk factors for long-term postoperative pain and GI symptoms. However, postoperative complications were identified to affect QoL adversely at postoperative 1 year. Careful and long-term follow up is thus necessary for patients who experienced postoperative complications.

Surgical clip migration in the common bile duct with consecutive stone formation is a rare occurrence after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, less than 100 cases being reported so far. We report a case of a 55-year-old woman with obstructive jaundice due to bile duct stone formed around a migrated surgical clip 9 years after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The patient presented with pain in the upper abdomen and jaundice. Abdominal ultrasound diagnosed dilation of the common bile duct and intrahepatic bile ducts. The diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography which revealed a metal clip in the distal part of the common bile duct. The patient was managed successfully by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and the surgical clip was retrieved using the Dormia basket. The exact mechanism of clip migration is not fully understood but may be explained by local inflammation and ineffective clipping. Although a rare occurrence, clip migration should not be excluded when considering the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with obstructive jaundice or cholangitis after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Minimally invasive management by ERCP is the procedure of choice for migrated clips related complications but surgical common bile duct exploration may be necessary.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety is a kind of emotional disorder caused by acute conditions or trigger. It is manifested in the components of the autonomic nervous system, for instance, stress, anxiety, nervosity, and discomfort. Most patients with anxiety are more active, nervous, and alert to various stimuli. Inappropriate management of early postoperative anxiety will not only prolong recovery but also increase the risk of other complications. We conduct a randomized clinical trial to investigate the influences of nursing visits against the preoperative anxiety and postoperative complications in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). METHODS: This is a single center, placebo-controlled randomized trial, which will be performed from August 2020 to December 2020. The trial is performed in accordance with the SPIRIT Checklist for randomized studies. It is authorized by the Ethics Committee of Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province (D20211-34). Two hundred patients undergoing LC will be included in this study. Patients are randomly divided into 2 groups: experiential group (n = 100) or control group (n = 100). The experimental group is given preoperative nursing visit to each patient 1 day before the operation, whereas the control group did not receive the preoperative nursing intervention. The patients in experience group also received education on the surgery team and the environment of operating room, the process of anesthesia, advantages of laparoscopic surgery, and the postoperative care from recovery room to discharge. The primary outcomes include State-Trait anxiety level and postoperative visual analogue scale. Secondary outcomes include total consumption of analgesics and postoperative complications. RESULTS: Figure (a) will show the comparison of outcomes between 2 groups. CONCLUSION: The preoperative nursing visit may decrease the anxiety and the complications after operation in patients receiving LC. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study protocol is registered in Research Registry (researchregistry5924).

Nausea is a mental sensation of unease and discomfort before vomiting. Vomiting refers to the return of the contents of the upper gastrointestinal tract to the mouth caused by contractions of chest and abdomen muscles. Postoperative nausea and vomiting is an unpleasant experience with high treatment costs. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the effects of haloperidol, metoclopramide, dexmedetomidine, and ginger on postoperative nausea and vomiting after laparoscopy. This double-blind clinical trial was performed on all laparoscopy candidates at Valiasr hospital, Arak, Iran. The patients were randomly divided into four groups (haloperidol, metoclopramide, dexmedetomidine and ginger), and all patients underwent general anesthesia using fentanyl, midazolam, atracurium, and propofol. After intubation, tube fixation, and stable hemodynamic conditions, the patients received four ginger capsules with a hint of lemon. A group of patients received 25 µg of dexmedetomidine. In the Plasil group, 10 mg of metoclopramide was given 30 minutes before the completion of surgery. In addition, 0.5 cc of haloperidol (5 mg) was administered to a group of patients. Heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation were recorded from the beginning of surgery, every 15 minutes until the end of the surgery. Furthermore, the occurrence of nausea and vomiting was recorded during recovery, 2 and 4 hours after surgery. Data were then analyzed using the SPSS software v.23. Eighty-eight patients were enrolled in the study. The youngest and the oldest were 30 years and 70 years old, respectively, and the mean age was 48.02 ± 9.31 years. Moreover, the number of women in the four groups was higher than that of men. Blood pressure in the dexmedetomidine group was lower than the other four groups (P <0.05). The lowest heart rate was observed in the haloperidol group, while the highest heart rate was seen in the plasil group (P <0.05). The occurrence of vomiting and nausea was not significantly different between the four groups (P <0.05). Our results showed no significant difference in postoperative nausea and vomiting between the four drugs. Due to the hemodynamic changes induced by each drug, it is best to use these drugs based on the patient's condition. Ginger is also a herbal remedy that has fewer side effects, and this drug can be a good option for patients when there is no contraindication.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has reached nearly universal adoption in the management of gallstone-related disease. With advances in operative technology, robotic-assisted cholecystectomy has been used increasingly in many practices, but few studies have examined the adoption of robotic assistance for inpatient cholecystectomy and the temporal outcomes on a national scale. The present study aimed to identify trends in utilization, as well as outcomes and factors associated with the use of robotic-assisted cholecystectomy. METHODS: The 2008 to 2017 database of the National Inpatient Sample was used to identify patients undergoing inpatient cholecystectomy. Independent predictors of the use of robotic assistance for cholecystectomy were identified using multivariable logistic regression adjusting for patient and hospital characteristics. RESULTS: Of an estimated 3,193,697 patients undergoing cholecystectomy, 98.7% underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 1.3% robotic-assisted cholecystectomy. Rates of robotic-assisted cholecystectomy increased from 0.02% in 2008 to 3.2% in 2017 (nptrend < .001). Compared with laparoscopic cholecystectomy, patients undergoing robotic-assisted cholecystectomy had a greater burden of comorbidities as measured by the Elixhauser index (2.2 vs 1.9, P < .001). Although mortality rates were similar, robotic-assisted cholecystectomy was associated with greater complication rates (15.5% vs 11.7%, P < .001), most notably gastrointestinal-related complications (3.7% vs 1.5%, P < .001). On multivariable regression, robotic-assisted cholecystectomy was associated with increased costs of hospitalization (ß: $2,398, P < .001). CONCLUSION: Using the largest national database available, we found a dramatic increase in the use of robotic-assisted cholecystectomy with no difference in mortality or duration of hospital stay, but there was a statistically significant increase in complications and costs. These findings warrant further investigation.

Resumen Introducción: En algunas áreas el cáncer de la vesícula biliar se detecta en hasta el 3,5% de los pacientes intervenidos por colelitiasis. Con el objetivo de evaluar el rol de la ruptura de la vesícula y la consiguiente contaminación por bilis, se evaluó una serie de pacientes portadores de cáncer de vesícula diagnosticado posterior a la colecistectomía. Materiales y Método: El estudio se efectuó en 109 pacientes en quienes se diagnosticó un cáncer de vesícula posterior a la colecistectomía. El grupo a estudiar se dividió de acuerdo a la ocurrencia o no de contaminación por bilis al momento de la colecistectomía, como también de acuerdo a la magnitud de ésta. Resultados: De los pacientes estudiados, en 32 se documentó la ocurrencia de contaminación por bilis al momento de la colecistectomía. De estos, en 13 la contaminación fue considerada mayor. El tiempo promedio de seguimiento fue de 33 meses, 35 pacientes (32,1%) fallecieron durante el seguimiento. La sobrevida media de la totalidad de la serie que tuvo contaminación por bilis no se diferenció de los pacientes sin contaminación. Sin embargo, el grupo que tuvo una contaminación catalogada como mayor, presentó una sobrevida estadísticamente inferior al resto de los pacientes. Finalmente, se realizó un análisis mediante el modelo de regresión de COX que incluyó edad, género, nivel de invasión y tipo de contaminación, resultando la existencia de contaminación mayor por bilis un factor independientemente asociado al pronóstico. Conclusión: La presencia de ruptura vesicular y contaminación mayor por bilis debiera considerarse un factor pronóstico.


Background: Incidental gallbladder cancer is observed in up to 3.5% of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. To study the role of wall perforation on the prognosis, we evaluated a series of patients in whom perforation occurred during the cholecystectomy. Materials and Method: 109 patients who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in whom final diagnosis was gallbladder cancer were the focus of the study. We divided the patients according the occurrence of spillage. Furthermore, patients with spillage were divided into two categories according the spillage magnitude. Results: Of the patients, spillage was documented in 32 (29.3%). In 13 patients spillage was considered major. The median follow-up of patients was 36 months, while 35 (32.1%) patients died during the follow-up. Five-year survival of all patients with spillage was not statistically different from the group without spillage. However, the group with major spillage had a statistically worse survival than the rest. A Cox regression analysis including age, gender, level of invasion and spillage category showed that major spillage was independently associated with a worse prognosis.

Biliary injury is a rare but a very serious complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Our aim was to analyse the incidence of the biliary injuries and its therapeutic outcome on patients who underwent LC or converted LC. Our research was conducted at the 1st Department of Surgery, Semmelweis University, Budapest between 2006 and 2016, retrospectively. We analysed the LCs and converted LCs performed at our Department and as well as cases where the primary operations were conducted at other institutions but they were unable to provide the adequate therapy for the injury, thus the patients were transferred to our institution. At the 1st Department of Surgery complications occurred in 0,66% (30/4885) of all LCs. 327 converted LCs were done, complications occurred in 26 (7.95%) times. 22 patients were transferred to the 1st Department of Surgery from other institutions. Bilio-vascular injuries occurred in 61% (41/78). ERCP was performed in 25 cases with a 92% success rate. Reoperation was needed in 41% (28/41). Biliary reconstruction during the reoperation was performed via hepaticojejunostomy in 82% of all reoperations. The therapeutic solutions of LC's complications are complex. Therefore, the treatment is recommended only in institutions with appropriate experience.

INTRODUCTION: Common bile duct stones are present in 10% of patients with symptomatic gallstones. One-third of UK patients undergoing cholecystectomy will have preoperative ductal imaging, commonly with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. Intraoperative laparoscopic ultrasound is a valid alternative but is not widely used. The primary aim of this study was to assess cost effectiveness of laparoscopic ultrasound compared with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective database of all patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy between 2015 and 2018 at a district general hospital was assessed. Inclusion criteria were all patients, emergency and elective, with symptomatic gallstones and suspicion of common bile duct stones (derangement of liver function tests with or without dilated common bile duct on preoperative ultrasound, or history of pancreatitis). Patients with known common bile duct stones (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography or failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiogram) were excluded. Ninety-day morbidity data were also collected. RESULTS: A total of 420 (334 elective and 86 emergency) patients were suspected to have common bile duct stones and were included in the study. The cost of a laparoscopic ultrasound was £183 per use. The cost of using the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography unit was £365 per use. Ten postoperative magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatographies were performed for inconclusive intraoperative imaging. The estimated cost saving was £74,650. Some 128 patients had common bile duct stones detected intraoperatively and treated. There was a false positive rate of 4.7%, and the false negative rate at 90 days was 0.7%. laparoscopic ultrasound use saved 129 bed days for emergency patients and 240 magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography hours of magnetic resonance imaging. CONCLUSION: The use of laparoscopic ultrasound during laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the detection of common bile duct stone is safe, accurate and cost effective. Equipment and maintenance costs are quickly offset and hospital bed days can be saved with its use.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard procedure in patients with cirrhosis and symptomatic gallbladder disease or acute cholecystitis. In this retrospective study we evaluated laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with cirrhosis based on Child-Pugh score as a predictor of morbidity. In the First Surgical Clinic of Iasi, from 01 jan 2010 to 31 jan 2020, we performed 111 laparoscopic cholecystectomies in Child-Pugh A, B, and C cirrhotic patients. Intraoperative difficulty (grade 3 Cuschieri) was experienced in 32 patients (28.8%). Highly vascular sub hepatic adherences have been reported in a quarter of all patients. Intraoperative incidents were more frequent 27 (24.3%) compared to laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed in other patient groups. The conversion rate to open cholecystectomy was 6.3% (7 cases). Mean operative time was 84 min. Mean duration of hospitalization stay was 4.7 days. The morbidity rate was 16.2% of patients and included bleeding, intraabdominal fluid collections and wound complications more common in patients with Child-Pugh Cirrhosis B and C. The results are dependent of the perioperative management of the liver function.
