RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to recount the story of the Simpósio Nacional de Diagnóstico de Enfermagem (National Nursing Diagnosis Symposium), from 1991 to 2018, describing the official themes and main recommendations; and reflect on the construction, in this process, of a specific field of knowledge for Nursing. RESULTS: the manuscript became a historical study, using official documents resulting from the thirteen Symposiums conducted in the period from 1991 to 2018 as the primary source of empirical data. The outcomes were divided into two stages, from 1991 to 1992, when the event was linked to Interest Groups in Nursing Diagnosis; and from 1996 to 2018, when ABEn Nacional took over the organization and execution of the event. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the socialization and exchange of knowledge about systematization of care, Nursing Process and nursing terminologies, themes focused on SINADEn, contributed decisively to the construction of a fruitful field of knowledge for Nursing.

RESUMO

Between 1958 and 1963, Spain witnessed the highest ever incidence of poliomyelitis (2000 cases and 200 deaths per year). Although Salk's inactivated vaccine had arrived in Spain in 1957, the government took no decisive action to administer it to the entire population at risk. Neither was Sabin's attenuated vaccine administered, available in Europe from 1960. While other countries adopted one or the other, in Spain rivalry arose over the two vaccines, with mixed results. The Salk vaccine was administered to a small percentage of the population at risk through the Compulsory Sickness Insurance scheme (Spanish initials: SOE), while at the same time a research team at the National School of Health led by Florencio Pérez Gallardo (1917-2006) carried out a model epidemiological study that demonstrated the superiority of the Sabin vaccine. In 1963, the SOE launched a national campaign with the Salk vaccine promoted by the paediatrician Juan Bosch Marín (1902-1995), a representative of the most conservative structure of the Franco regime. The dispute over which vaccine was best reached its peak in early 1963 at various scientific conferences in Madrid. Bosch Marín's group argued in favour of his campaign and the Salk vaccine, while Pérez Gallardo did the same for the oral vaccine, achieving a substantial impact by inviting Sabin himself to speak. By the end of the year, following a pilot study, the first mass oral vaccination campaign against polio was introduced in Spain.

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to depict the current and past research directions in Polish pathology at the turn of the centuries. The analysis was based on the abstracts of the congresses of the Polish Society of Pathologists organized in 1992-2016 and concerned 1,824 presentations. It has been proven that oncology (1,090 presentations, 59.76%) was the most commonly discussed topic and dominated the dispute. Organ pathology was the area of research covered with over » of all papers (464 presentations, 25.44%), while subsequent topics played a marginal role: varia (86 presentations, 4.71%), infectious and parasitic diseases (84 presentations, 4.61%) and toxicopathology (56 presentations, 3.07%). A special, multidisciplinary category of veterinary pathology was particularized (44 presentations, 2.41%). Positive trend was revealed for oncology, while a downward one for the organ pathology, toxicopathology as well as pathology of infectious and parasitic diseases.

Three scientific ceremonies organized in different theaters of the city of Buenos Aires by the Argentine Medical Circle (CMA) are studied. As part of practices of sociability of this institution, these ceremonies dedicated to commemorate episodes and central individuals in the medical community in the second half of the nineteenth century were one of the resources used by the CMA for the transmission of meanings, values and representations about the local medical practice civil society and political power. This amplification strategy of symbolic and cultural aspects of professional and scientific practice of medicine was used by the CMA both to build larger audiences, gain visibility and claim legitimacy for all medical practices, such as to open a gap in access to political recognition in a city with a tendency to look like strangers to doctors and hospitals until well into the twentieth century. In particular, the three case studies to illustrate the close relationship between the theatrical ceremonies and the circulation of a pilot program for medical sciences in Buenos Aires city

RESUMO

This chapter is based on the memories of those who shaped the relationship between the European and the North American Societies for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. The first joint meeting of the 2 Societies took place in Paris in 1978, followed by 1 in New York in 1985, 1 in Amsterdam in 1990, 1 in Houston in 1994, and the last one in Toulouse in 1998. The formation of the Federation of the International Societies for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (FISPGHAN) preceded the First World Congress of all Societies, which took place in Boston in 2000. The success of this meeting was followed by world congresses in Paris in 2004, Iguassu in 2008, Taiwan in 2012, and Montreal in 2016. NASPGHAN and ESPGHAN jointly took on the direction of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in 1991. Communication between the 2 Societies is extremely active, with members participating in many joint projects.
