RESUMO

A Gram-stain-negative, facultatively aerobic, rod-shaped, motile by gliding and pink-pigmented bacterial strain, designated ELS1360T, was isolated from a lake sediment sample collected in Inner Mongolia, PR China. Strain ELS1360T grew optimally at 33 °C, at pH 6.5-7.0 and without NaCl. Strain ELS1360T exhibited 97.3, 97.1 and 96.9 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to Hymenobacter aquatilis HMF3095T, Hymenobacter luteus JCM 30328T and Hymenobacter latericoloratus JCM 30327T, respectively, and 90.4-96.9 % to other members of the genus Hymenobacter. Results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain ELS1360T belonged to the genus Hymenobacter and clustered with H. luteus JCM 30328T and H. latericoloratus JCM 30327T. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15:0, summed feature 3 and C16:1ω5c. Strain ELS1360T contained MK-7 as the sole menaquinone. The major polar lipids contained phosphatidylethanolamine and two unidentified lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain ELS1360T was 57.1 mol%. Based on the results of our phylogenetic, phenotypic, genotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, it is concluded that strain ELS1360T represents a novel species within the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter sediminis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is ELS1360T (=KCTC 62449T=MCCC 1H00319T).

Four strains of bacteria designated as AR-3-6T, AT-3-1, AR-3-8T and AR-3-15 were isolated from Arctic soil. Cells were aerobic, Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped and yellow-pigmented. Flexirubin-type pigments were present in all strains. All strains tolerated 2 % of NaCl and were psychrotolerant. A phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that these strains formed a lineage within the family Cytophagaceae that were distinct from various members of the genus Dyadobacter. The closest member of strain AR-3-6T was D. koreensis DSM 19938T (97.2 % sequence similarity) and AR-3-8T was D. hamtensis HHS 11T (97.9 %). The predominant respiratory quinone was menaqinone-7. The major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω5c and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The DNA G+C content of strains ranges from 40.1 to 42.1 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic analysis, both strains AR-3-6T and AR-3-8T represent a novel member in the genus Dyadobacter, for which the name Dyadobacter psychrotolerans sp. nov. and Dyadobacter frigoris sp. nov. are proposed, respectively. The type strain of Dyadobacter psychrotolerans is AR-3-6T (=KEMB 9005-743T=KACC 21172T=NBRC 113790T) and type strain of Dyadobacter frigoris is AR-3-8T (=KEMB 9005-744T= KACC 21173T=NBRC 113791T).

A bacterial strain, 17J42-9T, was isolated from a soil sample collected on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. Cells were observed to be Gram-stain negative and rod-shaped. Colonies were observed to be orange in colour on R2A agar. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that high levels of 16S rRNA sequence similarity were shared between 17J42-9T and Emticicia fontis IMCC1731T (98.2 %), Emticicia ginsengisoliGsoil 085T (98.2 %) and Emticicia soli ZZ-4T (97.8 %). Growth of strain 17J42-9T was observed at 10-37 °C, pH 6.0-8.5 and in the presence of 0-0.5 % NaCl. The genomic G+C content was calculated to be 38.6 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone of the isolate was found to be MK-7; the major fatty acids were identified as summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) (34.1 %), C15 : 0iso (23.4 %) and C17 : 0iso 3-OH (10.8 %). The major polar lipids were found to be phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids and an unidentified lipid. The phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data support the affiliation of strain 17J42-9T with the genus Emticicia. However, the DNA-DNA relatedness between the isolate and its closest phylogenetic neighbours was lower than 46 %. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity analysis, DNA-DNA hybridization analysis and the observed differentiating phenotypic properties from other closely related taxa clearly indicate that strain 17J42-9T represents a novel species in the genus Emticicia, for which the name Emticiciaagri sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 17J42-9T (=KCTC 62270T=JCM 33056T).

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped and red-pigmented strain, HME7025T, was isolated from freshwater sampled in the Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain HME7025T formed a lineage within the family Cytophagaceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes. Strain HME7025T was closely related to the genera Pseudarcicella, Arcicella and Flectobacillus. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of strain HME7025T were under 94.5 % to its closest phylogenetic neighbours. The major fatty acids of strain HME7025T were iso-C15 : 0 (41.9 %), summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c; 12.2 %) and anteiso-C15 : 0 (10.8 %). The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminophospholipids and one unidentified polar lipid. The DNA G+C content of strain HME7025T was 37.9 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME7025T represents a novel species of a novel genus within the family Cytophagaceae, for which the name Allopseudarcicella aquatilis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME7025T (=KCTC 23617T=CECT 7957T).

Three bacterial strains, 30S-ANTBAC, 103A-SOEBACH and 59G- WUEMPEL, were isolated from two small freshwater creeks and an intermittent pond near Salzburg, Austria. Phylogenetic reconstructions with 16S rRNA gene sequences and, genome based, with amino acid sequences obtained from 119 single copy genes showed that the three strains represent a new genus of the family Cytophagaceae within a clade formed by the genera Pseudarcicella, Arcicella and Flectobacillus. blast searches suggested that the new genus comprises widespread freshwater bacteria. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genomic traits were investigated. Cells were rod shaped and were able to glide on soft agar. All strains grew chemoorganotrophically and aerobically, were able to assimilate pectin and showed an intense red pigmentation putatively due to various carotenoids. Two strains possessed genes putatively encoding proteorhodopsin and retinal biosynthesis. Genome sequencing revealed genome sizes between 2.5 and 3.1 Mbp and G+C contents between 38.0 and 42.7 mol%. For the new genus we propose the name Aquirufa gen. nov. Pairwise-determined whole-genome average nucleotide identity values suggested that the three strains represent two new species within the new genus for which we propose the names Aquirufa antheringensis sp. nov. for strain 30S-ANTBACT (=JCM 32977T =LMG 31079T=DSM 108553T) as type species of the genus, to which also belongs strain 103A-SOEBACH (=DSM 108555=LMG 31082) and Aquirufa nivalisilvae sp. nov. for strain 59G-WUEMPELT (=LMG 31081T =DSM 108554T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, pink-pigmented bacterium, designated NLT, was isolated from arsenic-contaminated farmland soil. Strain NLT showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with those of Hymenobacter jeollabukensis 1-3-3-8T (98.9 %), Hymenobacter gummosus ANT-18T (97.5 %), Hymenobacter paludis KBP-30T (97.4 %), Hymenobacter ocellatus Myx2105T (97.1 %) and Hymenobacter coalescens WW84T (96.4 %). The values of genomic orthoANI and dDDH between strain NLT and Hymenobacter jeollabukensis KCTC 52741T was 90.5 and 41.2 %, respectively, and those between strain NLT and Hymenobacter gummosus KCTC 52166T was 84.4 and 28.4 %, respectively. Strain NLT exhibited DNA-DNA hybridisation values of 41.3 and 44.1 % with Hymenobacter paludis KCTC 32237T and Hymenobacter ocellatus DSM 11117T, respectively. Strain NLT had major fatty acids (>10 %) of summed feature 4 (iso-C17 : 1 I and/or anteiso-C17 : 1 B), iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0 and the predominant polyamine of homospermidine. The only respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phospholipid, three unidentified lipids and two amino lipids. Strain NLT had a genome size of 6.04 Mb and the average G+C content of 65.6 %. Compared to the other Hymenobacter spp., strain NLT is different in polar lipid profile (without aminophospholipid) and leucine arylamidase activity. Based on the data of the polyphasic analysis, it is considered that strain NLT represented a novel species of genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter edaphisp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is NLT (=KCTC 62521T=CCTCC AB 2018028T).

A set of three psychrotrophic bacterial strains was isolated from different soil samples collected at the deglaciated northern part of James Ross Island (Antarctica) in 2014. All isolates were rod-shaped, Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative, and produced moderately slimy red-pink pigmented colonies on Reasoner's 2A (R2A) agar. A polyphasic taxonomic approach based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, automated ribotyping, MALDI-TOF MS, chemotaxonomy methods and extensive biotyping using conventional tests and commercial identification kits was applied to the isolates in order to clarify their taxonomic position. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene showed that all isolates belonged to the genus Hymenobacter with the closest relative being Hymenobacter aerophilus DSM 13606T, exhibiting 98.5 % 16S rRNA gene pairwise similarity to the reference isolate P6312T. Average nucleotide identity values calculated from the whole-genome sequencing data proved that P6312T represents a distinct Hymenobacter species. The major components of the cellular fatty acid composition were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c/C16 : 1 ω6c), C16 : 1 ω5c, summed feature 4 (C17 : 1 anteiso B/iso I), C15 : 0 anteiso and C15 : 0 iso. The menaquinone system of strain P6312T contained MK-7 as the major respiratory quinone. The predominant polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and an unidentified phospholipid. Moderate to minor amounts of three unidentified polar lipids, four unidentified aminophospholipids, one unidentified glycolipid and one unidentified phospholipid were also present. Based on the obtained results, we propose a novel species for which the name Hymenobacterhumicola sp. nov. is suggested, with the type strain P6312T (=CCM 8763T=LMG 30612T).

An aerobic, non-motile, Gram-stain-negative, red-to-pinkish and rod-shaped bacterium, designated 9PBR-2T, was isolated from an abandoned lead-zinc ore sample collected from Meizhou, Guangdong Province, PR China. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 9PBR-2T belongs to the genus Hymenobacter and was most closely related to Hymenobacter rigui KCTC 12533T (98.0 %), Hymenobacter swuensis KCTC 32018T (97.8 %) and Hymenobacter perfusus LMG 26000T (97.6 %). The calculated average nucleotide identity values based on whole genome sequences between strain 9PBR-2T and closely related type strains ranged from 81.3 to 84.1 %. Correspondingly, the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values ranged from 25.5 to 28.1 %. The major fatty acids of strain 9PBR-2T were iso-C15:0, anteiso-C15:0, C16:1ω5c, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω6c and/or C16:1ω7c) and summed feature 4 (iso-C17:1 I and/or anteiso-C17:1 B). It contained menaquinone 7 (MK-7) as the major isoprenoid quinone and phosphatidylethanolamine as the major polar lipid. The genomic DNA G+C content based on whole genome sequence was 59.8 mol%. Characterization based on phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic analyses clearly indicated that strain 9PBR-2T represents a novel species of the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobactermetallilatus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 9PBR-2T (=GDMCC 1.1492T=JCM 32699T).

A novel Gram-stain negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, asporogenous, propanil-degrading bacterial strain, TY50T, was isolated from a herbicide-contaminated soil in Nanjing, China. Strain TY50T was found to grow optimally at pH 9.0, 30 °C and in the absence of NaCl. The G + C content of the total DNA was determined to be 55.5 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain TY50T shows high identity to that of Spirosoma lacussanchae CPCC 100624T (99.3%), Spirosoma metallicum PR1014kT (94.8%) and Spirosoma soli MIMBbqt12T (94.6%). DNA-DNA hybridization indicated that the isolate had relatively low levels of DNA-DNA relatedness with S. lacussanchae CPCC 100624T (48.3%). Average nucleotide identity and the digital DNA-DNA hybridizations for draft genomes between strain TY50T and S. lacussanchae CPCC 100624T were 93.2% and 51.0%, respectively. The major cellular fatty acids of strain TY50T were identified as C16:1ω5c (24.5%) and summed feature 3 (C16:1ω6c/C16:1ω7c, 40.7%). MK-7 was found to be the predominant respiratory quinone. The major polar lipid profile includes phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified lipid and an unidentified aminolipid. These chemotaxonomic data support the affiliation of strain TY50T with the members of the genus Spirosoma. Strain TY50T can be distinguished from its close phylogenetic neighbours based on its phenotypic, genotypic, and chemotaxonomic features. Therefore, strain TY50T represents a novel member of the genus Spirosoma, for which the name Spirosoma sordidisoli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TY50T (= KCTC 62494T = CCTCC AB 2018041T).

Three Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, oxidase- and catalase positive, rod-shaped, pink-coloured bacterial strains, DMA-K-7aT, DMA-K-1 and DMG-N-1, were isolated from water sampled at Lake Ferto/Neusiedler See (Hungary). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the strains form a distinct linage within the family Cytophagaceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes, and their closest relatives are Rhabdobacter roseus R49T (95.66 %) and Dyadobacter sediminis Z12T (95.38 %). The assembled genome of strain DMA-K-7aT had a total length of 5.8 Mb and a DNA G+C content of 45.7 mol%. The major isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-7 (MK-7). The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 1 ω7c, iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1 ω5c, C16 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipid profile contained phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, an unknown aminolipid, an unknown glycolipid and five unknown lipids. Flexirubin-type pigments were absent. Strain DMA-K-7aT (=DSM 106737T=NCAIM B.02641T) is proposed as the type strain of a new genus and species in the family Cytophagaceae, for which the name Arundinibacter roseus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed.

A Gram-stain negative, aerobic, salmon-pink, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain 15J11-1T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from the university garden in Nowongu, South Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain 15J11-1T is phylogenetically related to Runella slithyformis DSM 19594T and Runella palustris HMF3829T (96.9% and 95.4% sequence similarity, respectively). The major fatty acids of strain 15J11-1T were identified as iso-C15:0, iso-C17:0 3-OH, C16:1ω5c and summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c). The predominant respiratory quinone was identified as MK-7. The polar lipids were found to comprise of phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified aminolipids, five unidentified glycolipids, two unidentified aminoglycolipids, an unidentified phospholipid and an unidentified polar lipid. The G + C content in the genomic DNA of the strain 15J11-1T was determined to be 49.9 mol%. Based on the results of genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, strain 15J11-1T is concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Runella, for which the name Runella soli sp. nov. (type strain 15J11-1T = KCTC 52021T = NBRC 112817T) is proposed.

RESUMO

Strain U15T, rod-shaped, catalase and oxidase positive, non-motile, hot pink pigmented, Gram-negative bacterium, was isolated from soil of Udo port, Udo Island, South Korea. Growth was observed at 10-48 °C, pH 6-11, and 0% (w/v) NaCl. Optimum growth conditions are 30-40 °C, pH 7-10, and 0% (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA sequences showed that strain U15T forms a distinct clade with type strains of the family Cytophagaceae, with similarities below 89%. The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylserine. Strain U15T was found to contain MK-7 as the only menaquinone, and iso-C15:0, C16:1ω5c, iso-C17:0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (comprising C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c) as the major fatty acids (> 10%). The DNA G + C content of strain U15T was determined to be 54.3 mol%. Based on the phylogenetic, phenotypic characteristics and chemotaxonomic analysis data, strain U15T (= KCTC 62116T = JCM 32361T) should be classified as representing a novel species of a novel genus within the family Cytophagaceae for which the name Tellurirhabdus rosea gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed.

A bacterial strain, 1-3-3-3T, was isolated from a soil sample collected in Jeollabuk-do province, South Korea. Cells were observed to be Gram-stain negative, short rod-shaped and colonies to be red-pink in colour. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences identified this strain as a member of the genus Hymenobacter in the family Hymenobacteraceae, with high levels of 16S rRNA sequence similarity with Hymenobacter algoricola VUG-A23aT (98.0%), Hymenobacter knuensis 16F7C-2 (97.9%), Hymenobacter fastidiosus VUG-A124T (97.1%), Hymenobacter elongatus VUG-A112T (97.0%), Hymenobacter chitinivorans Txc1T (97.0%) and Hymenobacter aquaticus 16F3PT (96.7%). Growth of strain 1-3-3-3T was observed at 10-30 °C, pH 6-8 and in the presence of 0-1.0% NaCl. The genomic G + C content was determined to be 61.6 mol %. The predominant respiratory quinone of the isolate was found to be MK-7; the major fatty acids were identified as iso-C15:0 (19.9%), summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c/C16:1ω6c, 19.7%), summed feature 4 (iso-C17:1 I/anteiso-C17:1 B, 17.8%), C16:1ω5c (12.5%) and anteiso-C15:0 (11.2%), and the major polar lipid was found to be phosphatidylethanolamine. The phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data support the affiliation of strain 1-3-3-3T with the genus Hymenobacter. However, the DNA-DNA relatedness between the isolate and its closest phylogenetic neighbours was lower than 34%. The DNA-DNA hybridization result and the differentiating phenotypic properties clearly indicate that strain 1-3-3-3T represents a novel species in the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter persicinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 1-3-3-3T (= KCTC 52742T = JCM 32191T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, light-pink, short rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterial strain was isolated from biological soil crust sampled in the Hopq Desert, Inner Mongolia, China, designated MIMBbqt21T. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 55.1 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that strain MIMBbqt21T belonged to the genus Hymenobacter and had the highest sequence similarity to Hymenobacter cavernaeK1E01-27T (94.35 %). Cell growth could be observed at 4-29 °C (optimum, 24 °C), pH of 6.0-8.6 (optimum, 6.0) and in the presence of 1 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0 %). The major fatty acids of strain MIMBbqt21T were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω5c and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c/C16 : 1ω6c). The main polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, five unidentified aminophospholipids, an unidentified glycolipid and four unidentified polar lipids. The sole respiratory quinone was menaquinone MK-7. Based on the results of the phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic studies, strain MIMBbqt21T could be distinguished from all known Hymenobacter species and represents a novel species, for which the name Hymenobactercrusticola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MIMBbqt21T (=MCCC 1K01312T=KCTC 42804T).

A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-flagellated, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated DC003T, was isolated from the alga Gracilariablodgettii of the phylum Rhodophyta collected from the coast of Lingshui county, Hainan, China. The strain grew optimally at 28 °C, pH 7.0-7.5 and in the presence of 2.0-3.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed strain DC003T to be within the genus Reichenbachiella, and most closely related to Reichenbachiella agariperforans JCM11238 (94.5 %), followed by Reichenbachiella faecimaris JCM 16588T (94.2 %). The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone 7 and the major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminophospholipids, three unidentified phospholipids and 10 unidentified lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 37.1 mol%. On the basis of the phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analysis, strain DC003T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Reichenbachiella, for which the name Reichenbachiellaversicolor sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DC003T (=KCTC 42867T=MCCC 1H00130T).

A Gram-negative bacterium, strain HA7T, was isolated from the microhabitat of common hazel (Corylus avellana L.) pollen. HA7T was found to be an aerobic, rod-shaped, catalase-positive, oxidase-negative bacterium with an optimum growth temperature of 25 °C and pH of 7. The nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequence of HA7T strain showed the closest similarities to Spirosoma linguale DSM 74T (97.4 %) and Spirosoma fluviale DSM 29961T (97.43 %). The major fatty acids (>5 %) were C16 : 1ω5c, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH), iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The major polar lipids were an unidentified aminophospholipid and phosphatidylethanolamine. The major respiratory quinone detected was menaquinone MK-7 (95 %). The draft genome sequence included 8 794 837 bases, which contained 3665 predicted coding sequences and had a G+C content of 47.9 mol%. The genome-based comparison between HA7T and S. linguale DSM 74T and S. fluviale DSM 29961T with pairwise average nucleotide identity indicated a clear distinction, between 76.2-76.3 %. Moreover, the digital DNA-DNA relatedness of HA7T to these strains was 26.5 and 25.1 %. Based on the differential genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic properties to closely related type strains, strain HA7T ought to be assigned with the status of a new species, for which the name Spirosomapollinicola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HA7T (DSM 105799T=LMG 30282T).

A bacterial strain, designated 17SD1-15T, was isolated from soil. Cells of this strain were Gram-stain-negative and aerobic rods. The major fatty acids of strain 17SD1-15T were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 4 (anteiso-C17 : 1 B and/or iso-C17 : 1 I). The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one phospholipid and five unidentified lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain 17SD1-15T was 49.0 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain 17SD1-15T was phylogenetically related to Pontibacter saemangeumensis GCM0142T, Pontibacter korlensis X14-1T, Pontibacter yuliensis H9XT, Pontibacter diazotrophicus H4XT and Pontibacter humi SWU8T (98.3, 96.4, 96.4, 96.4 and 96.0 % sequence similarity, respectively). DNA-DNA relatedness between 17SD1-15T and the most closely related type strain of Pontibacter species was 42.9±0.8 %. The low level of DNA-DNA relatedness identified strain 17SD1-15T as a member of a novel species in the genus Pontibacter. The results of genotypic and phenotypic data, including chemotaxonomic traits, showed that strain 17SD1-15T could be distinguished from its phylogenetically related species. Therefore, strain 17SD1-15T represents a novel species within the genus Pontibacter, for which the name Pontibacter terrae sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain 17SD1-15T (=KCTC 52915T=NBRC 113057T).

A Gram-stain negative, aerobic, oxidase and catalase positive, non-flagellated, pink coloured bacterium with gliding motility, designated as strain UDD1T was isolated from soil. The bacterium lacked flexirubin-type pigments. Phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain UDD1T formed a lineage within the family Cytophagaceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes, and forms a distinct clade with type strains of the closely related genus Pontibacter with similarities of 91.36-93.62%. Strain UDD1T contained MK-7 as the predominant menaquinone and summed feature 4 (iso-C17:1 I and/or anteiso-C17:1 B) and iso-C15:0 as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and an unidentified glycolipid. The DNA G+C content of strain UDD1T was 49 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analyses, the strain UDD1T represents a novel species of a new genus in the family Cytophagaceae, for which the name Edaphorhabdus rosea gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain of Edaphorhabdus rosea is UDD1T (= KCTC 62117T = JCM 32366T). The Digital Protologue Database Taxon number for strain UDD1T is GA00058.

A bacterial strain, S1-2-2-6T, was isolated from a soil sample collected in Jeollabuk-do province, Republic of Korea. Cells of this strain were observed to be Gram-stain-negative, short and rod-shaped, and colonies were red to pink in colour. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences identified this strain as representing a member of the genus Hymenobacter in the family Cytophagaceae, with the highest levels of sequence similarity being observed in relation to Hymenobacter terrae DG7AT (98.2 %), Hymenobacter rubidus DG7BT (97.9 %), Hymenobacter soli PB17T (97.7 %), and Hymenobacter daeguensis 16F3Y-2T (97.3 %). Growth of S1-2-2-6T was observed at 4-30 °C, pH 6-8 and in the presence of 0-0.5 % NaCl. The predominant respiratory quinone of this strain was menaquinone-7, the major fatty acids were C15 : 0 iso, C15 : 0 anteiso, and Summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c/C16 : 1ω6c), and the major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The genomic DNA G+C content of S1-2-2-6T was 60.7 mol%. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments with H. terrae, H. rubidus, H. soli and H. daeguensisresulted in relatedness values of 35.9 and 38.4 %, 34.2 and 30.4 %, 28.3 and 33.1 %, and 23.5 and 27.9 %, respectively. These DNA-DNA hybridization results, in addition to some differentiating phenotypic properties, clearly indicate that S1-2-2-6T is a representative of a novel species of the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter rufus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S1-2-2-6T (=KCTC 52736T=JCM 32196T).

A Gram-reaction-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterial strain, designated DK6-66T, was isolated from subsurface sandstone sediment located in the Qilian Mountains in Qinghai Province, Northwest China. Strain DK6-66T was found to grow optimally at pH 7.0 and 22 °C. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain DK6-66T belonged to the genus Hymenobacter and clustered with the type strain of Hymenobacter arcticus, with which it exhibited a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity value of 98.2 %. The DNA G+C content was 60.4 mol%. The major respiratory quinone was MK-7 and the major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major fatty acids were C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c, anteiso-C17 : 1 B and/or iso-C17 : 1 I, iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and C16 : 1ω5c. On the basis of phylogenetic and phenotypic data, strain DK6-66T was classified in the genus Hymenobacter as a member of a novel species, for which the name Hymenobacterbucti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DK6-66T (=CGMCC 1.15795T=KCTC 52629T).
