This paper explores the relationship between human desire, technology, and imagination, emphasizing (1) the phenomenology of this relationship, and (2) its ontological and ecological ramifications. Drawing on the work of Bion and Winnicott, the paper will develop a psychoanalytic container for attitudes contributing to our current climate-based crisis, paying special attention to the problematic effect technology has had on our sense of time and place. Many of our technologies stunt sensuous engagement, collapse psychic space, diminish our capacity to tolerate frustration, and blind us to our dependence on worlds beyond the human. In short, our technologies trouble our relationship to our bodies and other bodies. The paper argues that omnipotent fantasies organizing our relationship to technology, to each other, and to the nonhuman world, have cocooned us in a kind of virtual reality that devastates a sense of deep obligation to the environment.

Abstract: The early intervention clinic leads us to question the symptomatic nuances between the signs of risk of autism and the signs of depression of the baby. In considering the Freudian concept that associates the depression with the loss of the object, how could we think about be regarded the depressive condition of babies who are in the process of constructing their relationship to the object? In both cases, there is a mismatch in the establishment of the impulse drive between the mother and the baby which, although being distinct experienced features, are associated to the counter transfer with the analyst. On the basis of two different clinical cases, we address under which conditions the autistic withdrawal and the depression of the baby converge and differentiate one from another.

Abstract: This paper intends to demonstrate that, on the psychoanalytic field, the interpretation is itself an act of creation. Starting from the analysis of the Ancient World's representation politiques, latter on we highlight some of the differences between the use of the interpretation in Freud and in Artemidorus. As we demonstrate in the end of this paper, the psychoanalytic interpretation doesn't reveal the past but establishes it retroactively.

An autobiographical interpretation of latent meanings in Freud's Interpretation of Dreams is undertaken in order to explore oedipal themes in Freud's writing and their role in his resistance to writing the book. By looking at how the book performs its message, in presenting a collection of Freud's personal dreams that talk to each other and inspire meaning-making, we can see how readers are drawn into the role of interpreters/analysts. This process makes the oedipal myth palpable long before Freud mentions it. It also illustrates an analytic process that analysts are all required to follow. Finally, the process reveals something in Freud that could be apprehended only after his ideas were conveyed-the unending process of interpretation, in which every conclusion gives rise to new ideas, inspiring new conclusions.

The film Logan, in conjunction with other films in the X-Men series, can be read as both a portrait of midlife and as the keystone in an expansive critique of group relations. A family of concepts related to generativity, identified by Erik Erikson, is used to interpret this unusually mature instance of the superhero movie. Individuals and societies that stumble over the task of becoming generative may be expected to fall into despair or extremes of pseudo-speciation: the treatment of particular groups as so radically different from one's own that they are beyond the scope of care. This essay traces the evolution of Logan toward greater generativity and care, and contrasts his character with others from the series who exemplify successes and failures in this task. Real-life vicissitudes of generativity are also discussed in relation to survivors of the Holocaust and other contemporary groups that may be treated as pseudo-species.

This paper discusses the main features of Siberian identity formed throughout the historical development of Siberia under the influence of social, economic, geographical, climatic, and other factors. Siberian cultural identity is closely connected with the mythology and ancient religion of the indigenous peoples of Siberia - shamanism, whose rituals, images, symbols, and motifs are often manifested in the clients' dreams. Following an in-depth study of Siberian history and culture, I formulate a complex of homelessness rooted in a deep collective trauma that left its imprint on people's psyche. Three clinical cases presented in the paper reveal a deep relationship between cultural complexes and collective traumas on the one hand, and individual complexes and traumas, on the other. My psychotherapeutic practice shows that a client's awareness of their history and culture brings them closer to the meaning and source of their suffering, which, in turn, helps them find their own way of individuation, rather than relive the transgenerational trauma of their ancestors.

Developing Lacan's idea of "hystory," the following reading of D. H. Lawrence's story "The Lovely Lady" considers the personal and historical as deeply entwined, both in their oppression and potential liberation. The lady, who represents the order of bourgeois idealism, discovers the key to eternal youth, each night vampirically feeding off the erotic energy of her son. This essay views the story as an allegory of modern life as a dead zone of alienation, in which "hystory" is comprised of the web of transgenerational phantoms, traumas of the past, and haunting secrets from the crypt of the (m)other's unconscious.

Winnicott's perspective on psychosomatic illness as a phenomenon that bridges the unconscious and the conscious will be discussed using, using clinical material and Kafka's short story "A Hunger Artist." The author makes use of Winnicott's ideas in discussing the idea that psychosomatic symptoms, or illness, are not necessarily a form of acting out in need of elimination, but a nonverbal "language" in need of a listener. The author describes clinical cases in which the psychosomatic symptom was treated as a sign of something that went wrong within the mother-infant relationship, which has awaited a good-enough environmental provision to enable the creation of a new meaning.

Notions of ineffability, what cannot be put into words, vary depending on the historical and cultural context and, in particular, on shifting linguistic ideologies about the capabilities and limits of language. In recent decades psychoanalysts have embraced a modern notion of ineffability centered around traumatic bodily experiences that are thought to be inexpressible. However, these ideas break with Freudian ideas about language and, most importantly, with his understanding of the processes of interpretation that give meaning to both psychic pain and attempts to heal it. Contra Freud, current theories of ineffable trauma re-inscribe a dominance of the body over the psyche and over-simplify Freud's ideas about the retro-determination of trauma.

Psychoanalysis is a transformational process through which meanings become visible and foreclosed identity may be further constituted. Winnicott (1971) marks the crucial developmental function of the relationship that is good enough to tolerate the separateness of the other. The analyst's ability to "take the transference" enables the patient to locate himself in relation to another mind and being in ways that did not happen sufficiently in childhood. This process requires the signification of personal meanings that can become consensual without subverting one's own becoming in the process. The dream provides idiosyncratic images that can demarcate conceptual space in ways that can enable the individual to move from the sign to the symbol; from what Kleinians term the symbolic equation, to the symbol proper, the domain of language and consensual meanings. I describe a case in which one young man used his dreams as a way of moving from a universe in which meanings could not be made into one in which he could build meanings in relation to his own experience and ideas.

We tend to think of Narcissus as foolishly enamored with his own image, morbidly preoccupied with self-love. Yet when we study him closely in Ovid's Metamorphoses, he does not seem to recognize himself in the water but believes to be encountering another person; he appears lost to himself. Freud's theories of ego formation, narcissism, and melancholia are examined for explanations of this loss. In contrast to Freud, who believed that identification with the lost object facilitates the subject's separation from it, identification is redescribed as a mechanism preserving the (imaginary) union with the object. Identification with the negative object is viewed as an inevitable aspect of ego formation rather than only as indicative of depressive pathology. Finally, narcissism, initially defined as a state of diminished object cathexis, is understood as a defense structure disavowing separation and leading to the conflation of self and other.

This paper focuses on the literary theme of the double (doppelgänger) as an artistic attempt at endowing suffering protagonists with a chance for redemption. Doppelgänger works feature a protagonist who encounters his or her double, or disintegrates into several self-parts. The paper investigates the question of whether literary doubelness may serve as a cure for the protagonists' suffering, or rather aggravates their initial suffering and introduces further causes of agony on their part. After discussing whether doubleness stems from the protagonists' wish to meet Kohut's self-object need for twinship, the paper analyzes stances of literary doubleness, either by split or by multiplication, that seem to be the source of their protagonists' sense of suffering. It concludes by attempting to provide an integrative account of these sources of distress in view of Kohut's theory of self-object needs.

The present paper searches to articulate conceptual aspects of the evolution of the Freudian psychoanalytic practice regarding, fundamentally, the path between the use of hypnosis and the beaconing of interpretation. In constant joints of the Freudian technique with perspectives of current authors, scopes are delimited and transformations and crucial inflections of the praxis throughout the Freudian passage are distinguished. Initially, the text focuses on the first writings produced by Freud, in a retrospect of the technic progress to the consolidation of the interpretative method. The evolution of the psychoanalysis technique, its limits, and the proper effectiveness of the hypnosis and interpretation as a technic resource are discussed. The text still provides important subsidies, assists on the points of significant questions of psychoanalysis structure, contemplating (1) the reason for which the psyche for as many times reveals itself as impenetrable, (2) how the removal of the repressed material moves the affection and (3) how the limits of the technique of psychoanalysis evolution are outlined....(AU)

The Hours, a film directed by Stephen Daldry in 2002, creates a collage of three women: Virginia Woolf, whom we meet in the year 1923, in the middle of writing what is to become the novel Mrs. Dalloway; Laura Brown, whom we encounter in 1951, in the midst of her reading the novel Mrs. Dalloway; and Clarissa Vaughan, who lives in New York in 2001 and who is affectionately called "Mrs. Dalloway" throughout the film. This paper's analysis focuses on this literary collage, including a writer (Virginia Woolf), a reader (Laura Brown), and a protagonist (Clarissa Vaughan), using André Green's idea of The Dead Mother Complex as well as Kristeva's and Pontalis's ideas concerning the melancholy of language in order to explain the specific attack on language and love that characterizes the film's main characters and that may explain their terminal choices.

Jung and Freud had very different ideas about the nature of analysis. This paper begins by exploring how Jung's gnostic approach, with its goal of individuation, is deeply informed by Buddhist and Taoist principles. His pluralistic, relational model regards truth as subjective and co-constructed with the patient. In contrast, Freud's secular methodology has objective truth as its goal. His classical psychoanalysis is a form of reality testing where the analyst claims to know the painful, singular, objective reality which the patient tries to evade. The theory of aesthetic development (see Piaget 1951, Baldwin 1975, Parsons 1980, Housen 1992, Harris Williams 2010) proposes that artistic appreciation is linked to human development. The paper looks at how the apperception of beauty, related to both truth and meaning, acts as an indicator and facilitator of individuation in the clinical encounter. This is illustrated by a clinical case study. Through empirical research, support is given to the argument (Bollas 1978, Meltzer 1988) that our early experience of the feminine/maternal plays a central role in developing an aesthetic capacity. The experience of the sublime in analysis is examined and portrayed as a means by which aesthetic development may be reignited and narcissistic isolation shattered.

Resumo Há processos artísticos análogos a interpretações psicanalíticas?

Abstract Can an artistic project be treated as analogous to a psychoanalytic interpretation? To explore this question, this article considers Morgan's series of dance photographs, later appropriated by Andy Warhol as silkscreen prints, as a single "case study." The analysis of this pair of artistic processes develops into a discussion of their similarities with a psychoanalytic interpretive process, thus serving as a "testing ground" to consider how analytic interpretation may prove relevant to artists and art critics. This differs from the more common idea of incorporating psychoanalytic theories into the analysis of art (among other simplistic and methodologically incoherent applications of one of these fields to the other). The article draws upon the theoretical contributions of Fabio Herrmann. João Frayze-Pereira's ideas of the intrinsic relationship between Art and Psychoanalysis are implied.

Reacting to the presentation of the "Plan for the Protection of Health Against Pseudotherapies" of the Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, the Spanish Sociey of Psychoanalysis shares the necessary objective of regulating and updating the professional practice of Mental Health both in the public and private spheres , since it is part of the deontological responsibility of our professions. In this sense, we consider that it is also necessary to respond in order to clarify some topical opinions about Psychoanalysis that have been poured into media of communication, social networks and some professional media. The current Psychoanalysis is a Psychology eminently focused on relational phenomena, from a bio-psycho-social conception of the human being in wich therefore, a complex multicausality is assumed. Psychoanalysis continuously evolves in new models that try to provide understanding about human functioning, as well as in new techniques and intervention formats that achieve good results, at least as good as, and in some aspects, better than other evidence-based treatments in Psychiatry

In a lecture given in Madrid in 1928, Ferenezi addresses fundamental aspects of the psychoanalyst's training, contending that its sine qua non condition is self-knowledge and observation through personal analysis, prior to any theoretical or practical training. He explams how it is only through introspection and understandmg of one s own psychic and intellectual processes that one can develop the skills to understand the psychic and aff ective motions of another. He expounds upon the importance of free association and dream analysis, as well as of the analysis being directed by another, owing to the inevitable limitations of self-analysis. Transference analysis, the overcoming of resistances undertaken with tact and firmness by another lead to the analysand's independence in relation to the analyst, which is specific to the psychoanalytic method. He compares psychoanalytic formation to learning a craft. He then discusses the creation of the IPA on his initiative and the complex vicissitudes of the institutionalisation of psychoanalysis, encouraging the constitution in Spain of its own group for the furtherment of psychoanalysis, based around the much-lauded figure of Luis López Ballesteros
