RESUMO

Based on the specimens from Guangxi and Yunnan deposited in the Guangxi Normal University, the paper is firstly reported the female sex of two known species from China, viz. Furcilarnaca armata (Bey-Bienko, 1957) and Furcilarnaca forceps (Bey-Bienko, 1962). The female of Furcilarnaca armata (Bey-Bienko, 1957) is very similar to Furcilarnaca chiangdao in seventh abdominal tergite and subgenital plate, and they may belong to the same species. After examining the female subgenital plate of Furcilarnaca chirurga (Bey-Bienko, 1962), we treat Furcilarnaca hirta as a valid species. Mitochondrial genomes of six specimens of three Furcilarnaca species were sequenced and annotated in this study. The organization and gene content of new sequenced mitogenomes were conserved, except for significant variation of the control region. All the PCGs started with the typical ATN codons and most ended with complete TAA or TAG codons. Combined with five mitogenomes in NCBI, a total of twelve specimens (including one outgroup) were used in phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs. The result revealed that Furcilarnaca was a monophyletic group. These data will provide more meaningful genetic information and validate the phylogenetic relationships within the Gryllacrididae.

RESUMO

Seven new species and the female sex of Rhaphidophora xishuang Gorochov, 2012 of the rhaphidophorines are described from China. The images illustrating the morphology of the two known species are provided. Meanwhile, the complete mitogenome of Rhaphidophora quadrispina was assembled. The mitogenome was 15892 bp in length and contained the typical gene arrangement. All examined specimens are deposited in the Guangxi Normal University.

RESUMO

Investigation of the male calling signals of Limotettix (Limotettix) striola (Falln, 1806) in populations from central and southern European Russia, Northern Caucasus, and West Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan demonstrated that they belong to the same species. Males of L. striola from West Tien Shan have a somewhat different penis shape and belong to a separate subspecies, L. striola ferganensis Dubovskiy, 1966. L. striola ferganensis from West Tien Shan differs from L. ferganensis sensu Hamilton (1983, 1994) from the Nearctic in the shape of penis in dorsal view. Apparently, L. ferganensis sensu Hamilton (1983, 1994) is a separate, possibly, undescribed Nearctic taxon.

Here we report two new species of the swordtail crickets (Orthoptera: Trigonidiidae; Trigonidiinae) from Yunnan and Guangxi Province, China. One species (Trigonidium rubrumoculus sp. nov.) belongs to the genus Trigonidium, and we describe a new genus for the other species (Polycomus gen. nov., Polycomus exspiravit sp. nov.). The new genus resembles Amusurgus Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893 in appearance but differs in the structure of the male genitalia. Descriptions, illustrations, and distributions of these new species are provided.

The genus Meges Pascoe, 1866 stat. res. is resurrected from synonyms of Monochamus Dejean, 1821 and is made a senior synonym of Magninia Clermont, 1932 syn. nov. Meges currently contains two species, i.e. Meges gravidus (Pascoe, 1858) and Meges tonkineus (Clermont, 1932) comb. nov. The male of the latter species is described for the first time. A related genus Pseudomeges Breuning, 1944 is investigated for comparison and Pseudomeges aureus Bi, Chen Lin sp. nov. (, Jn bn wi m tin ni) is described from Yunnan, China. New localities are reported. Illustrations of habitus, endophallic structures and major diagnostic features for all involved taxa are provided.

RESUMO

Sword-tailed crickets of the genus Amusurgus Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893 (Orthoptera: Trigonidiidae: Trigonidiinae) from Southeast Asia is still poorly known and its taxonomy requires a revision. Many species are still awaiting discovery and formal description. Based on newly-acquired materials from the mangrove in Singapore, a new species of Amusurgus is described: Amusurgus (Amusurgus) caerulus sp. nov. This discovery also demonstrates that even in a small country like Singapore, we still do not have a comprehensive understanding of its orthopteran diversity.

RESUMO

The deep-water alpheid shrimp Batella praecipua De Grave, 2004 was originally described based on two incomplete specimens, both with their first chelipeds missing, collected at 400440 m off New Caledonia. During the recent KANADEEP 1 expedition in the Coral Sea in 2017, the first complete specimen of B. praecipua was collected at a depth of 370380 m. The morphology of this specimen is presented in detail, with emphasis on the highly diagnostic chelipeds, which are described and illustrated for the first time. A slight intraspecific variation of B. praecipua is reported and a DNA barcode (CO1) is provided for this species. The main differences between the three presently known species of Batella Holthuis, 1955 are discussed.

RESUMO

Two new snapping shrimps associated with gobies are described from the tropical waters of the western Pacific. Alpheus thompsoni sp. nov. is described based on a single adult female from Madang, Papua New Guinea. Alpheus sciolii sp. nov. is described based on several specimens of both sexes from the Solomon Islands, Australia and Vietnam. Both species are part of a larger species complex, which also includes A. djeddensis Coutire, 1897, A. djiboutensis De Man, 1909, A. bellulus Miya Miyake, 1969, A. macellarius Chace, 1988, A. fenneri Bruce, 1994 and A. mannarensis Purushothaman, Abhilash, Kumar Lal, 2021, but can be distinguished from each of them by a combination of morphological characters, and from the latter four species also by the very different colour patterns.

Hemigyrus was established by Brunner von Wattenwyl in 1893. In this study, we collected samples from Chongqing, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Tibet and Yunnan of China, and reconstructed phylogenetic tree based on COI gene. The results supported the classification of dividing this genus into two subgenera: Tomomima and Hemigyrus. With larger size and evidently branched phylogenetic position, a new subspecies H. (T.) spinosus robustus subsp. nov. Xie, Wang He is described here. H. (H.) acutifolius is firstly reported from China. Males of H. (H.) amplus and H. (H.) acutifolius, females of H. (H.) minor are described for the first time. All materials were deposited in Biological History Museum of East China Normal University (ECNU) and the Shanghai Entomological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SEM).

RESUMO

The rare symbiotic alpheid shrimp Salmoneus erasimorum Dworschak, Abed-Navandi Anker, 2000 was previously known from a single specimen collected with a suction pump on the Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea, together with its host, the ghost shrimp, Gilvossius tyrrhenus (Petagna, 1792). A second record of S. erasimorum is presented here, with a diagnosis and the first colour photographs, based on a single specimen collected in northern Brittany, France, also with a suction pump, but without its host. This is also the first record of the species on the European coast of the Atlantic Ocean. An annotated list and a key to the species of Salmoneus currently known from the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea are provided.

In this work we briefly reviewed the genus Gryllacris with some notes on taxonomic issues, note the taxa that have been described in and transferred to the genus and describe a new taxon, Gryllacris (Gryllacris) stylommatoprocera, from Yunnan, China. Materials are deposited in Shanghai Entomological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Euconnus (Tetramelus) melkei sp. n. is described, based on a male specimen collected in the Eastern Cape province of the Republic of South Africa. This species is characterized by the most elaborate and extensive male sexual dimorphic features known in Euconnus, comprising glandular projections and impressions that cover most of the head dorsum, strongly modified scapes, long projections on protrochanters, and thickened profemora with glandular porous and setal patches. The most similar species, Euconnus nasicornis Franz and E. paranasicornis Franz, previously treated as incertae sedis within Euconnus, are placed in Tetramelus. The E. nasicornis species group of Tetramelus that includes the abovementioned species is defined by an extremely elongate adult body, multiple dimorphic features in males, and a pair of lateral longitudinal sulci on the pronotum. The current state of knowledge of South African Euconnus is discussed, and a checklist of the currently known 159 nominal species that inhabit RSA is given.

Two snapping shrimps associated with gobies are reported from the Saudi Arabian coast of the Red Sea. Alpheus karplusi sp. nov., a species with a highly diagnostic, rusty-spotted colour pattern, is described based on three specimens, two males and one female, collected in the Farasan Islands and off Thuwal. Alpheus thompsoni Anker, 2022, previously known with certainty only from Papua New Guinea, is reported from the Farasan Islands, on the basis of a complete adult male specimen. Some differences in the colour pattern and morphology between the female holotype from Papua New Guinea and the male from the Red Sea are discussed. Both species belong to the A. djeddensis Coutire, 1897A. djiboutensis De Man, 1909 species complex, which also includes A. bellulus Miya Miyake, 1969, A. macellarius Chace, 1988, A. fenneri Bruce, 1994, A. mannarensis Purushothaman, Abhilash, Kumar Lal, 2021, and A. sciolii Anker, 2022.

A new alpheid shrimp genus, Crosnierocaris gen. nov., is established for Crosnierocaris athanasoides sp. nov., a very peculiar shrimp possibly associated with decomposing sea grass accumulations in deeper water. The type series of C. athanasoides sp. nov. was collected in the Mozambique Channel, north of Grande Glorieuse Island, at a depth of 240255 m. The new genus presents a unique combination of morphological features, including the very long, slender rostrum armed with a subdistal ventral tooth; the pterygostomial angle projecting as a strong sharp tooth; the third to fifth pleura with their distoventral margins armed with two to four small teeth, a unique feature within the Alpheidae; the sixth pleuron with an articulated plate; the eyes largely exposed dorsally and laterally; the first pereiopods (chelipeds) feebly enlarged in both sexes, stouter but shorter than walking legs; the first pereiopod carpus with rows of short serrulate setae on its mesial surface; the second pereiopod carpus with five subdivisions; the third to fifth pereiopods with meri armed with stout cuspidate setae; the uropodal diaeresis with a strongly dentate lateral portion; and the complete gill-exopod formula, with mastigobranchs on coxae of the third maxilliped and first to fourth pereiopods. Within alpheid shrimps, the rostrum of C. athanasoides sp. nov. is one of the longest relative to the total body length, often reaching half of the carapace length. The phylogenetic position of Crosnierocaris gen. nov. within the Alpheidae remains to be determined, but based on its morphological characters, the new genus appears to be closest to Athanas Leach, 1814, especially in the configuration of the frontal area of the carapace, and Potamalpheops Powell, 1979, for instance, in the armature of the uropodal diaeresis and walking legs, as well as the presence of setal rows on the cheliped carpus. The new genus also shares several morphological features with Yagerocaris Kensley, 1988, which represents one of the least derived lineages within the family Alpheidae.

We describe Gehyra wongchan sp. nov. from Tham Khao Chan (Khao Chan Cave), Tha Luang District, and Wat Khao Wong, Kok Samrong District, in Lopburi Province, central Thailand. The new species differs from all currently recognized Gehyra by the following combination of morphological characters and dorsal color pattern: maximal known snoutvent length of 52.4 mm, 810 supralabials, 7680 dorsal and 4850 ventral scale rows around midbody, absence of skin folds on limbs, 17 or 18 preanofemoral pores in males in a continuous series extending to mid-length of femur (pores absent in females), tail not- to moderately widened behind vent in adults, a single row of widened subcaudals, digits and toes unwebbed, 7 or 8 divided subdigital lamellae on 4th toe, and a dorsal pattern with white spots as large or larger than adjacent crescentic black markings on a beige to light-brown background.

A new species of the alpheid shrimp genus Richalpheus Anker Jeng, 2006 is described on the basis of 10 specimens collected from three locations in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. Richalpheus laeuadigitus n. sp. appears close to R. palmeri Anker Jeng, 2006 and R. dahabensis Anker Dworschak, 2007 among the three known congeners, but differs from R. palmeri in the proportionally wider telson and the more proximally located tip of the antennular stylocerite, and from R. dahabensis in the different configuration of the major cheliped fingers, in particular the possession of a well-developed bulge-like ridge on the occlusal margin of the dactylus. Two sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene from two of the paratypes are newly obtained, and compared with that of R. palmeri downloaded from the GenBank database. The new species is the fourth representative of Richalpheus. Possible association between the new species and other infaunal invertebrates is suggested, although not specified.

We revise the systematics of Hemidactylus giganteusan Indian endemic leaf-toed gecko based on recent collections from the type locality and other localities in peninsular India. We provide a comprehensive redescription of H. giganteus sensu stricto and describe three new allied species from the Karnataka and Telangana states in India. We analysed the phylogenetic relationships between the three new species, H. raya sp. nov., H. saxicolus sp. nov., and H. aemulus sp. nov., and found them to be nested within the H. giganteus sensu lato branch. The pairwise genetic divergence between these new cryptic taxa from H. giganteus sensu stricto ranged from 5.88% to 10.95% for the Cyt b gene. The new species also differ from H. giganteus sensu stricto based on number of femoral pores on each thigh and poreless scales separating them (1823 femoral pores and seven or eight poreless scales versus 17 femoral pores and seven poreless scales in H. raya sp. nov., 26 or 27 femoral pores and nine poreless scales in H. saxicolus sp. nov., and 2225 femoral pores and nine to ten poreless scales in H. aemulus sp. nov.), corroborated by linear discriminant analysis based on 29 morphometric and meristic characters. Our species delimitation analysis shows the presence of three additional putative new species awaiting formal description within the H. giganteus sensu lato branch.
