This article seeks to reflect on the processes of emancipation set in motion by the young people involved in the secondary movement in 2015, paying special attention to the girls protagonists of this uprising, their corporealities and the aesthetic-political dimensions of their claims. We showed that, during the occupations, issues related to feminism became the subject of debates, also appearing in the documentary Fight like a girl! (Flávio Colombini and Beatriz Alonso, 2016), which was produced during the occupations, woven only with testimonies from the girls who participated in the movement. From scenes and excerpts from this production, we seek to show how the agency of high school girls produces dispositional arrangements and political subjectivities and scenes of dissent in which other forms of life and other performativities are possible.

RESUMO

Becoming mother of a second child, as a parental transition phenomenon, poses a challenge to reflection in Nursing. This theoretical study intends to present a reflection on the being who being-in-the-world becomes mother of a second child. It is based on Heideggerian phenomenology and nursing thought. The text is organized around two axes: Heidegger's conceptual contributions and nursing thought. The Heideggerian ontological dimension, aligned with the humanistic presuppositions of Nursing, contributes to unfold the meanings of life experiences and broaden possibilities of caring of the being who being-in-the-world… becomes mother of a second child. Concomitantly, the access to the experience of women who being-in-the-world become mother of a second child enables widening comprehension of this phenomenon, which will certainly impact nurses' being-present in their daily care.

RESUMO

Increasingly, people turn to online sources for health information, creating human-non-human relationalities. Health websites are considered accessible in scope and convenience but can have limited capacity to accommodate complexities. There are concerns about who gets to 'assemble' with these resources, and who is excluded. Guided by Ahmed's socio-political theories of emotions, we questioned our feelings as we intra-acted with a consumer information website about back pain (MyBackPain). This encouraged us to approach resource evaluation in a way that alters conventional rational/cognitive judgement processes. Our inquiry was 'supra-disciplinary' involving public health, sociology, allied health and consumer collaborators. Specifically, we considered relationality - the feelings circulating between bodies/objects and implicated in MyBackPain's affective practices; impressions - the marks, images or beliefs MyBackPain makes on bodies/objects; and directionality - how these intra-actions pushed in some directions and away from others. Although Ahmed would likely not consider herself 'post-humanist', we argue that her socio-political theories of how objects and emotions entangle are of great interest to furthering critical post-human understandings of health. Rather than threatening decision-making, we suggest that feelings (and their affects) are central to it. The article demonstrates the productive potential of critical post-human inquiry in identifying/countering 'othering' possibilities, and catalysing a 'nomadic shift' towards new human-non-human formations.

RESUMO

The purpose of this paper was to evaluate a role for the Roy adaptation model (RAM) for the nursing care of military veterans with alcohol use disorder. Parse's criteria were used to critique the RAM. The RAM's humanistic philosophy emphasizes the ability to develop new coping skills and adapt to complex environments. The framework can define physical, emotional, and social responses to stressors faced by veterans. The RAM could guide new research and practice initiatives that optimize the health of military veterans.

RESUMO

The discipline of nursing is at a crossroads following the pandemic as scores of both budding and seasoned scholars and practitioners have left the discipline of nursing. Lower numbers of experienced nurses are entering into doctoral programs of nursing, especially PhD programs. A mentoring model is needed to guide and retain budding scholars of the discipline. The author of this article presents the humanbecoming mentorship model. It will be used to illustrate ethical straight-thinking implications for the future of the discipline of nursing.

RESUMO

The purpose of this paper is to show the historical continuity of transhumanism over time, from the birth of Darwinist eugenics to the present day. The history of transhumanism is rooted in the ideas of Francis Galton, who were assumed by the one who defined the current term, Julian Huxley. The influence of Huxley's thinking on present transhumanist philosophy cannot be considered marginal, as his philosophy was continued by the founders of the first transhumanist movements in the United States of America, F.M. Esfandiary and Timothy Leary. Both thinkers were the masters of today's transhumanists. This is how we seek here to establish a historical line from eugenics to today's transhumanism.

RESUMO

In this article we approach to understand the presuppositions of the transhumanist current to recognize some of the fundamental and universal notes of human nature that are manifested through its proposals. From the approaches of transhumanism, the human being can be recognized as a yearning being, a being who naturally desires. Moreover, it is recognized that this desire motivates the action of man and that the person is always on the way to perfection, motivated to overcome without limits what reality offers him to fulfill his desire for fulfillment. In addition, the main proposals for human improvement sustained from transhumanism are analyzed to understand which are the desires of the heart of man that are manifested through them. The recognition of these desires can be taken as a good starting point for the dialogue between transhumanism and other currents that recognize desire as a fundamental part of a human nature. We also judge whether transhumanism can be understood as an adequate response to satisfy the deepest desires of the human heart for happiness and fulfillment, concluding that transhumanist theses are insufficient when it comes to calming the fundamental concerns of human heart.

RESUMO

The human being experiences in the depths of his being a longing for fulfilment. However, pain, disease and death accompany their existence. Transhumanism tries to overcome the limits of man through all a technological scientific development and ventures to predict the definitive triumph over death. In this study, we will analyse the meaning of vulnerability, limits, consciousness of finitude and death for both transhumanism and an anthropology focused on the human being. Transhumanism and this anthropology coincide in the desire to conquer death. The understanding of the concepts studied and the means to save humanity that are proposed differ in both approaches. We understand that in transhumanism there is a reductionism of the definition of person and therefore of the solution that is offered to respond to the deep longing inscribed each human being.

RESUMO

Gender post-feminism or ″gender ideology″ is a revolution against man that denies the existence of his human nature, and promotes a homogenized world with interchangeable roles without sexual distinction. As man has been transforming the world with technology and depending on it, he has been changing himself and we get to the point that, when faced with a machine and a human being, we opt for the machine because the human being seems imperfect to us. The transhumanist ideology as an overcoming of the human supposes the dehumanization of man. It is not that we only transform into other beings, but we could end up despising the human. Does a totally artificial world await us? The key question we have to ask ourselves is what perspective of man does transhumanism have? What are we to this ideology? Will it show the happiness of man?

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Advanced cancer (AC) patients experience serious physical and psychological problems with the disease progression. When approaching the end of life, these patients have to cope with not only the bodily illness, but also the spiritual crisis. Conventional psychological treatments reduce distress to a certain extent, but for patients with AC, especially when they face progressive illness and are approaching death, their psychological problems are complex, and no simple solutions are in sight. Therefore, we designed this study to evaluate the efficacy of the combined Naikan therapy (NT) and Morita therapy (MT) on psychological distress and posttraumatic growth in patients with AC. METHOD: One hundred thirty patients newly diagnosed with AC were allocated randomly into treatment (n = 65) and control (n = 65) groups. Patients in the treatment group received combined NT and MT for 7 consecutive weeks, while the control group received normal medical treatments without NT and MT. Patients were assessed before and after the therapies. The primary outcome measures include distress thermometer (DT) and posttraumatic growth, and the secondary outcome measure contains the list of distress problems. RESULTS: At the post-treatment stage, the treatment group displayed a decreased score of psychological distress as compared to that in the control group, which accompanied by a higher post-traumatic growth total score and subscale scores in relationship to others, new possibilities, personal strength, spiritual changes, and appreciation of life. A significant decrease in fear, sleeping difficulty/insomnia, nervousness/anxiety, and loss of appetite was also observed in the treatment group. CONCLUSION: The results proved that the combined Naikan and Morita therapies decreased the psychological distress and improved the posttraumatic growth of the patients with AC.
