Naturally occurring mutations in morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) are associated with decreased ovulation rate (OR), litter size (LS), and sterility. It is of a great interest to elucidate BMP15 gene in Cholistani sheep breed to uplift socio-economic status and the knowledge of Cholistani sheep breeding in Southern Punjab, Pakistan. In our study, a total of 50 infertile Cholistani sheep aged between 2-6 years and having no blood relation were screened for BMP15 mutations. For this purpose, a high-quality DNA was extracted from the blood of sheep followed by primer designing, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification, DNA sequencing, and in silico analyses. Out of total 50 samples, 9 samples including case 1 (T3), case 2 (T8), case 3 (T17), case 4 (T22), case 5 (T25), case 6 (T33), case 7 (T40), case 8 (T44), and case 9 (T47) were found positive for a variety of already reported and novel BMP15 mutations. Further in silico analyses of the observed mutations have shown the functional impact of these mutations on different characteristics (molecular weight, theoretical PI, estimated half-life, instability index, sub-cellular localization, and 3D confirmation) of the encoded proteins, possibly altering the normal functionality. In a nutshell, findings of this study have confirmed the possible essential role of the BMP15 mutations in the infertility of the Cholistani sheep.
Mutações de ocorrência natural na proteína morfogenética 15 (BMP15) estão associadas à diminuição da taxa de ovulação (TO), tamanho da ninhada (TN) e esterilidade. Estudar a BMP15 na raça Cholistani para elevar o status socioeconômico e o conhecimento da criação de ovinos Cholistani no sul de Punjab, Paquistão. Em nosso estudo, 50 ovelhas Cholistani inférteis sem parentesco sanguíneo foram rastreadas para mutações BMP15. Para tanto, um DNA de alta qualidade foi extraído do sangue dessas ovelhas, seguido de concepção do primer, amplificação da reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR), sequenciamento de DNA e análises in silico. Do total de 50 amostras, 9, incluindo caso 1 (T3), caso 2 (T8), caso 3 (T17), caso 4 (T22), caso 5 (T25), caso 6 (T33), caso 7 (T40), caso 8 (T44) e caso 9 (T47), foram consideradas positivas para uma variedade de mutações BMP15 novas e já relatadas. Mais análises in silico das mutações observadas mostraram o impacto funcional dessas mutações em diferentes características (peso molecular, PI teórico, meia-vida estimada, índice de instabilidade, localização subcelular e confirmação 3D) das proteínas codificadas, possivelmente alterando a funcionalidade normal. Nossos achados confirmaram o possível papel essencial das mutações BMP15 na infertilidade de ovelhas Cholistani.

Introduction: Depression is not uncommon among infertile couples. The objective of the study is to analyze factors that predict depression in these couples, when they are in Assisted Reproduction Techniques programs. Materials and method: We analyze the level of depression in couples referred from the Human Reproduction Unit to study the male factor using the Beck Depression Inventory and the clinical information contained in the SARAplus program. Results: Depressive ranges appear in approximately half of the participants. The degree of depression correlates in a statistically significant way between both members of the couple. Among the analyzed clinical factors, we observed relational tendency between depression and obesity and depression and smoking. Conclusions: Depression in infertile couples is a fact. ART specialists should be on the lookout for symptoms of depression in order to provide patients psychological and psychiatric care and treatments, as part of the overall therapeutic framework for infertility. BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional studies have shown that sexual dysfunction and poor quality of life were prevalent among couples undergoing assisted reproduction at specific time points, but nothing is known about how these outcomes change over the course of their intrauterine insemination (IUI) journey. AIM: We investigated the longitudinal changes in sexual function and quality of life of infertile couples undergoing IUI. METHODS: Sixty-six infertile couples completed an anonymous questionnaire at 3 time points: after IUI counseling (T1), 1 day before IUI (T2), and 2 weeks after IUI (T3). The questionnaire consisted of demographic data, Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) or International Index of Erectile Function-5, and Fertility Quality of Life (FertiQoL). OUTCOMES: Descriptive statistics, significance testing with the Friedman test, and post hoc analysis with the Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to compare changes in sexual function and quality of life at different time points. RESULTS: Overall, 18 (26.1%), 16 (23.2%), and 12 (17.4%) women and 29 (42.0%), 37 (53.6%), and 31 (44.9%) men were at risk for sexual dysfunction at T1, T2, and T3, respectively. There were significant differences in mean FSFI scores in arousal (3.87, 4.06, 4.10) and orgasm (4.15, 4.24, 4.39) domains at T1, T2, and T3. After post hoc analysis, only the increase in mean orgasm FSFI scores between T1 and T3 was statistically significant. Men's FertiQoL scores remained high during IUI (74.33-75.63 out of 100). Men also scored significantly higher than women on all FertiQoL domains except environment at the 3 time points. Post hoc analysis showed significant improvement in women's FertiQoL domain scores between T1 and T2: mind-body, environment, treatment, and total. Women's FertiQoL score at T2 for the treatment domain was also significantly higher than that at T3. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Men should not be neglected during IUI as their erectile function got worse in the process, with half of the men being affected. Although women's quality of life showed some improvement during IUI, most of their scores were lower than men's. STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS: The use of psychometrically validated questionnaires and a longitudinal approach are the major strengths; a small sample size and the lack of a dyadic approach are the major limitations. CONCLUSION: During IUI, women's sexual performance and quality of life improved. The proportion of men having erectile problems was high for this age group, but men's FertiQoL scores remained good and were better than their partners' throughout IUI.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis plays a fundamental role in the endocrine regulation of the reproductive function in mammals. Any change in the function of the participating hormones or their receptors can lead to alterations in sexual differentiation, the onset of puberty, infertility, cancer development, and other dysfunctions. In this study, we analyzed the influence of persistently elevated levels of the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG), a powerful agonist of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH), on the reproductive axis of female mice. As a consequence of chronic hCG hypersecretion through a global expression of the hCGbeta-subunit in transgenic (TG) female mice, a series of events perturbed the prepubertal to juvenile transition. The imbalance in gonadotropin action was first manifested by precocious puberty and alterations in gonadal hormone production, with the consequent ovarian function disruption and infertility in adulthood. The expansion of cumulus cells in vivo and in vitro, ovulatory capacity, and gene expression of ovulation-related marker genes after hormone stimulation were normal in 3-week-old TG females. However, the expression of genes related to steroidogenesis and luteinization such as Lhcgr, Prlr, and the steroidogenic enzymes Cyp11a1, Cyp17a1, and Cyp19a1 were significantly elevated in the TG females. This study demonstrates that the excessive secretion of hCG in concert with high prolactin, induced premature luteinization, and enhanced ovarian steroidogenesis, as was shown by the up-regulation of luteal cell markers and progesterone synthesis in the TG mice. Furthermore, progressively impaired reproductive function of the TG females occurred from the peripubertal stage to adulthood, thus culminating in infertility.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of infertility duration and dominant follicle size measured on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) administration on pregnancy rates in infertile women undergoing ovulation induction (OI) with gonadotropin (GND). A total of 352 patients aged 20 to 41 years who were diagnosed with unexplained infertility or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were included in this study. Patients with a history of multifollicular development or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) value more than 12 IU/ml were excluded from the study. The demographic and clinical features of the patients were obtained from the patients' files and hospital automation system and recorded for each woman. The demographic and clinical features of the patients were recorded. Patients were divided into two groups as live birth (group 1, n = 47) and non-live birth groups (group 2, n = 305). There were no statistically significant differences in regard to age, infertility type, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level, oestradiol (E2) level, antral follicle count (AFC), cycle characteristics, GND type, number of follicles, E2 level and endometrial thickness on HCG day, total GND dose, dominant follicle size (p > 0.05). Infertility duration in group 1 was 3.5 ± 2.1; in group 2, 4.7 ± 3.9 years. This difference was statistically significant (p = .014). According to this study, live birth rates after GND + IUIs(intrauterine insemination) were significantly affected by the duration of infertility. But the dominant follicle size and endometrial thickness measured on HCG day in GND and IUI cycles did not have a significant effect on pregnancy rates.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on the subject? It is thought that the timing of the ovarian triggering is vital for the success of intrauterine insemmination (IUI) treatment.What do the results of this study add? According to our results live birth rates after GND + IUIs were significantly affected by the duration of infertility.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? It is determined that the duration of infertility is significant and patients should be encouraged to the treatment as soon as possible.

BACKGROUND: To compare the aneuploidy rate in spontaneous abortion chorionic villus (SA-CV) after D5 and D6 thawed-frozen blastocyst transfer(TBT). METHODS: This retrospective cohort study recruited 522 patients with early spontaneous abortion from March 2012 to January 2020 in the our center. The aneuploidy rate of SA-CV was compared according to the blastocyst development stage: D5 group (n = 398) and D6 group (n = 124). RESULTS: Patients' characteristics, including age, body mass index, follicle-stimulating hormone, fertilization methods, type of infertility, infertility duration, and gestational age when abortion, did not differ between the two groups (all P > 0.05). Although the mean number of embryos was significantly higher in D6 than in the D5 group (P < 0.001), the mean number of high-quality embryos was similar (P = 0.773). In the D5 group, 46.5% of SA-CV showed aneuploidy, which was comparable to 41.1% in the D6 group (P = 0.296). After further grouping according to age (> 35 years or ≤ 35 years), the difference between the D5 and D6 groups remained not statistically significant (P = 0.247 and P = 0.690). Multivariate logistic analysis showed that women's age was independently associated with the aneuploidy rate (OR = 0.891; 95% CI: [0.854-0.930]; P < 0.001). The rate of chromosomal aneuploidy was significantly higher in the age > 35 years group than in the age ≤ 35 years group (61.0% vs. 39.4%, P < 0.001). Other factors, including blastocyst formation speed, were not significant predictors of aneuploidy rate. CONCLUSIONS: The rate of chromosomal aneuploidy in SB-CV after D6 TBT was comparable to that after D5 TBT. Chromosomal aneuploidy may not be a main factor contributing to the high prevalence early pregnancy loss at D6 group.

Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) is one of the most common endocrinopathies and is more prevalent in women. It becomes evident that the circulating antithyroid antibodies that often follow AITD have effects on many tissues, including ovaries, and therefore that this common morbidity might have an impact on female fertility, the investigation of which is the aim of the present research. Ovarian reserve, ovarian response to stimulation and early embryo development in infertile patients with thyroid autoimmunity were assessed in 45 women with thyroid autoimmunity and 45 age-matched control patients undergoing infertility treatment. It was demonstrated that the presence of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies is associated with lower serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels and antral follicle count. Further investigation revealed the higher prevalence of sub-optimal response to ovarian stimulation in TAI-positive women, lower fertilization rate and lower number of high-quality embryos in this group of patients. The cut-off value for follicular fluid anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody affecting the above-mentioned parameters was determined to be 105.0 IU/mL, highlighting the necessity of closer monitoring in couples seeking infertility treatment with ART.

The decline of oocyte quality has profound impacts on fertilization, implantation, embryonic development, and the genetic quality of future generations. One factor that is often ignored but is involved in the decline of oocyte quality is mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) abnormalities. Abnormalities in mtDNA affect the energy production of mitochondria, the dynamic balance of the mitochondrial network, and the pathogenesis of mtDNA diseases in offspring. In this review, we have detailed the characteristics of mtDNA in oocytes and the maternal inheritance of mtDNA. Next, we summarized the mtDNA abnormalities in oocytes derived from aging, diabetes, obesity, and assisted reproductive technology (ART) in an attempt to further elucidate the possible mechanisms underlying the decline in oocyte health. Because multiple infertility factors are often involved when an individual is infertile, a comprehensive understanding of the individual effects of each infertility-related factor on mtDNA is necessary. Herein, we consider the influence of infertility-related factors on the mtDNA of the oocyte as a collective perspective for the first time, providing a supplementary angle and reference for multi-directional improvement strategies of oocyte quality in the future. In addition, we highlight the importance of studying ART-derived mitochondrial abnormalities during every ART procedure.

BACKGROUND: Infertility remains a global reproductive health burden with the highest prevalence in low and middle-income countries. In sub-Saharan Africa, the ability to procreate holds great societal importance. Couples, and particularly women, with infertility can face devastating challenges, leading to social stigma, isolation and/or divorce. However, attention to addressing infertility is lacking in sub-Saharan Africa. In The Gambia, where this study is based, little is known about the potential for introduction of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in the public health sector. METHODS: A quantitative survey was conducted using detailed questionnaires on infertility services available, staff knowledge, perceived barriers, and personal motivation to support assisted reproductive technologies. Data was collected electronically between April and June 2021 from healthcare providers (n = 70) in eleven health facilities throughout the country, as well as from medical students (n = 55) enrolled at The University of The Gambia. RESULTS: Basic infertility services were found to be lacking in the rural areas. Furthermore, 39% of staff (n = 27) providing fertility care had not receive any formal training on the topic. However, 91% of staff (n = 64) showed interest in acquiring additional knowledge and had a positive attitude towards supporting the introduction of ART. Perceived challenges of doing so included: (i) the competing importance of other health priorities; and (ii) religious and cultural barriers. CONCLUSION: This survey highlights that expansion of infertility services is needed, especially in rural areas. Staff perceived the introduction of ART as important, but this should be coupled with specialized training, as most medical staff had not received any formal infertility training. Future care providers (current medical students) showed both interest in ART and reported having received some basic training in infertility management. Given the reported lack of infrastructure and services, additional targeted investment in infertility care, including ART, will be needed to improve reproductive health for all, countrywide.
BACKGROUND: In Sub-Saharan Africa, the prevalence of involuntary childlessness (infertility) is high. However, services to help address this problem are inconsistent or lacking including in the West African country of The Gambia, where this study was conducted. There is currently limited information on the infrastructure available and the level of knowledge and training among healthcare providers in the country to help address this issue. To address this gap in knowledge, we conducted a survey with health staff from different hospitals and with medical students at the University of The Gambia. The survey focused on the reported availability of services as well as participants' knowledge and training in both basic and advanced treatments for infertility. We found a major lack of infertility care services in rural areas. Furthermore, staff knowledge about infertility was minimal, and there was little knowledge about more advanced infertility care services, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). The survey also found that staff and students perceived other health priorities and religion as major barriers for ART introduction. Staff noted that government funding for infertility treatment is minimal. In conclusion, this survey found a lack of reported infrastructure for infertility in rural areas of The Gambia, as well as a lack of formal training by staff. However, both staff and students showed interest in the potential introduction of ART. Overall, this survey highlights that more investment and training is needed to implement changes in order to modernize reproductive healthcare in The Gambia, in particular for those who face infertility.

The recent tendency to delay pregnancy has increased the incidence of age-related infertility, as female reproductive competence decreases with aging. Along with aging, a lowered capacity of antioxidant defense causes a loss of normal function in the ovaries and uterus due to oxidative damage. Therefore, advancements have been made in assisted reproduction to resolve infertility caused by reproductive aging and oxidative stress, following an emphasis on their use. The application of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with intensive antioxidative properties has been extensively validated as a regenerative therapy, and proceeding from original cell therapy, the therapeutic effects of stem cell conditioned medium (CM) containing paracrine factors secreted during cell culture have been reported to be as effective as that of direct treatment of source cells. In this review, we summarized the current understanding of female reproductive aging and oxidative stress and present MSC-CM, which could be developed as a promising antioxidant intervention for assisted reproductive technology.

Bee products, including honey, have been utilized since ancient times for nutritional and therapeutic purposes. Recently, other bee products such as bee pollen, royal jelly, and propolis have caught a lot of attention. Being high in antioxidants and bioactive compounds, these products have established their applications in the pharmaceutical field as supplementary or alternative medicines. This review focuses on their use against polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)-related infertility. A systematic search of electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar was conducted from their inceptions up to November 2022. Studies with a small sample size, studies with inconclusive data, and pre-prints have been excluded. A narrative synthesis was performed during draft preparation after the authors independently performed a literature search. A total of 47 studies were finalized for the review. It can be observed that in vivo data on the use of bee products in treating PCOS mostly deals with their use in synergism with the PCOS medicines to enhance their effect and/or curb their side effects; however, clinical trials for the same are limited. With the amount of data being limited, it is difficult to map out the mechanism by which these products act in managing PCOS inside the human body. The review gives detailed insights into the reversal and restorative properties of bee products against the aberrations in reproductive health caused by PCOS.

Infertility is a disease globally affecting 20-30% of the reproductive age female population. However, in up to 50% on recorded cases, problems with infertility are ascribed to men; therefore, it is important to popularize healthy eating also in this group. During the last decade, it has been observed that society's lifestyle changed drastically: reduced energy expenditure in physical activity per day, increased consumption of hypercaloric and high-glycemic-index foods with high content of trans fats, and reduced consumption of dietary fiber, which negatively affects fertility. Increasing evidence points to a link between diet and fertility. It is becoming clear that well-planned nutrition can also contribute to the effectiveness of ART. The low-GI plant-based diet appears to have a positive effect, especially when it is based on Mediterranean dietary patterns: rich in antioxidants, vegetable protein, fiber, MUFA fatty acids, omega-3, vitamins, and minerals. Importantly, this diet has been shown to protect against chronic diseases associated with oxidative stress, which also translates into pregnancy success. As lifestyle and nutrition seem to be important factors affecting fertility, it is worth expanding knowledge in this regard among couples trying to conceive a child.

INTRODUCTION: Vitamin D is associated with many functions of the human reproductive system. Accordingly, it seems that on infertile couples undergoing assisted reproduction technology (ART), treatment outcomes may be affected by the vitamin D. This overview aims to show the effect of vitamin D on infertility treatments outcomes in recent studies by concluding systematic reviews and meta-analyses to achieve a comprehensive result. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This overview protocol is being reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) statement and was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. We will include all peer-reviewed systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials published from inception until December 2022. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Scopus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Embase will be searched from the time of publication of the first articles onwards with a comprehensive search strategy. Endnote V.X7 software (Thomson Reuters, New York, New York, USA) will be used to store and manage records. The results will align with guidelines in the Cochrane Handbook of Systematic Reviews of Interventions and the PRISMA statement. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This overview will be evaluating the effect of vitamin D status and vitamin D supplementing on results of ART in women and men who are undergoing treatment for infertility. The high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency worldwide and its effects on an important issue such as human fertility might be a very influential factor that leads scientists to strongly recommend its use. However, the more critical concern is that there is no definitive agreement in studies on the relationship between vitamin D and an increased chance of better fertility in men and women undergoing infertility treatment. BACKGROUND: Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a complication of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). It is a potentially life-threatening condition that usually occurs either after human chorionic gonadotropins (hCG) administration in susceptible patients or as a result of an implanting pregnancy, regardless of whether it was achieved by natural conception or infertility treatments. Despite many years of clinical experience regarding the adoption of preventive measures and the identification of patients at high risk, the pathophysiology of OHSS is poorly understood and no reliable predictive risk factors have been identified. CASES PRESENTATION: We report about two unexpected cases of OHSS following infertility treatments, occurring after freeze-all strategy with embryo cryopreservation approaches. The first case developed spontaneous OHSS (sOHSS), despite efforts to prevent its manifestation by a segmentation approach, including frozen embryo replacement cycle. The second case developed a late form of iatrogenic OHSS (iOHSS), even though the absence of any risk factors. No mutations in the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor (FSHR)-encoding gene were detected, suggesting that the high levels of hCG due to the twin implanting pregnancies could be the only triggering factor of OHSS outbreak. CONCLUSION: Freeze-all strategy with embryo cryopreservation cannot entirely prevent the development of OHSS, which may occur in its spontaneous form independently from the FSHR genotype. Although OHSS remains a rare event, all infertile patients requiring ovulation induction or controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) may be at potential risk of OHSS, either in the presence or in the absence of risk factors. We suggest closely monitoring cases of pregnancy following infertility treatments in order to provide early diagnosis and adopt the conservative management.

Endometriosis is a complex disease, which is defined by abnormal growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. It affects about 10% of women of reproductive age all over the world. Endometriosis causes symptoms that notably worsen patient's well-being-such as severe pelvic pain, dysfunction of the organs of pelvic cavity, infertility and secondary mental issues. The diagnosis of endometriosis is quite often delayed because of nonspecific manifestations. Since the disease was defined, several different pathogenetic pathways have been considered, including retrograde menstruation, benign metastasis, immune dysregulation, coelomic metaplasia, hormonal disbalance, involvement of stem cells and alterations in epigenetic regulation, but the true pathogenesis of endometriosis remains poorly understood. The knowledge of the exact mechanism of the origin and progression of this disease is significant for the appropriate treatment. Therefore, this review reports the main pathogenetic theories of endometriosis based on current studies.

Genetic analyses of mammalian gametogenesis and fertility have the potential to inform about two important and interrelated clinical areas: infertility and contraception. Here, we address the genetics and genomics underlying gamete formation, productivity and function in the context of reproductive success in mammalian systems, primarily mouse and human. Although much is known about the specific genes and proteins required for meiotic processes and sperm function, we know relatively little about other gametic determinants of overall fertility, such as regulation of gamete numbers, duration of gamete production, and gamete selection and function in fertilization. As fertility is not a binary trait, attention is now appropriately focused on the oligogenic, quantitative aspects of reproduction. Multiparent mouse populations, created by complex crossing strategies, exhibit genetic diversity similar to human populations and will be valuable resources for genetic discovery, helping to overcome current limitations to our knowledge of mammalian reproductive genetics. Finally, we discuss how what we know about the genomics of reproduction can ultimately be brought to the clinic, informing our concepts of human fertility and infertility, and improving assisted reproductive technologies.

Coping with difficulty conceiving and the ensuing fertility treatments is a stressful experience that impacts many aspects of women's lives. On the basis of Lazarus and Folkman's model of stress and coping and Schaefer and Moos's model of personal growth, and in view of the sparse literature on cultural aspects of infertility and personal growth, this study examined the relationship between stress on the one hand and personal growth and life satisfaction on the other among Arab and Jewish Israeli women. Furthermore, it investigated the moderating role played by perceived stigma, coping flexibility, cultural orientation (individualism and collectivism), and ethnicity. Two hundred five Arab and Jewish Israeli women undergoing fertility treatment completed self-report questionnaires. The results show that Arab women reported higher levels of personal growth and individualism than Jewish women. In the whole sample, a linear negative relationship was found between stress and life satisfaction, and a curvilinear relationship was found between stress and personal growth. In addition, perceived stigma, collectivism, individualism, and coping flexibility were found to moderate the association between perceived stress and personal growth. The findings provide further understanding of personal growth in the context of infertility, showing that personal resources and perceptions are more important than cultural differences in this regard.

Endometriosis is a serious disorder that can lead to infertility. The immune system, particularly regulatory T cells (Tregs), is involved in endometriosis and infertility; however, endometriosis-associated infertility is poorly understood. Tregs, which have an immunosuppressive function, fluctuate during the menstrual cycle. They are functionally heterogeneous and can be divided into subsets, with only activated Tregs (aTregs) having a true immunosuppressive function. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of aTregs in endometriosis and how they contribute to endometriosis-associated infertility. We enrolled 72 women with (n = 39) and without (n = 33) endometriosis. Subpopulations of Tregs were examined in normal endometrium (NE), eutopic endometrium from women with endometriosis (EE), normal peritoneal fluid (N-PF), and peritoneal fluid from women with endometriosis (E-PF) via flow cytometry. The proportion of aTregs during the ovulatory phase was higher in NE than in EE (P < 0.05), and that during ovulatory and secretory phases was significantly higher in NE than in N-PF (P < 0.01 and 0.05, respectively). aTreg populations did not significantly differ between EE and E-PF. During the ovulatory phase, the proportion of resting Treg (rTreg) in the N-PF was significantly higher than during the proliferative phase (P < 0.05). The E-PF of rTreg populations did not differ significantly throughout the menstrual cycle. We found that Treg subsets were altered in the endometrium and PF of patients with endometriosis during the menstrual cycle. Our findings, particularly the reduction of aTregs in the EE, may provide an insight into the mechanism of endometriosis-associated infertility.
