In the spring semester of 2020, online flipped classroom was used to replace offline face-to-face teaching of the physiology course at Xiangya School of Medicine. In order to analyze the preferences and utilization of different teaching resources by students, registered questionnaire was applied to investigate the preference divergence of the students on the duration of different teaching videos used in the online flipped classroom model. One hundred forty-seven students of clinical medicine in grade 2018 of Xiangya School of Medicine were selected as the research objects. Three formal surveys were conducted in total. The results showed that there were significant divergences in preference of students for different durations in the first two surveys. 56.43 and 50.00% of the students preferred 15 min mini-video, whereas 43.57 and 50.00% preferred 45 min complete video. Meanwhile, students showed a significant preference for mini-video in active learning before class, with 65.00 and 59.29% watched only mini-video, 17.14 and 25.71% watched only complete videos, and 17.86 and 15.00% watched both mini and complete videos. Although most students preferred to watch mini-video in active learning before class, there was a significant proportion of students who watched complete video before class. The results suggested that the individualization of student in the online flipped classroom is prominent. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the selection of videos with different durations at different time points (before, in and after class) was significantly associated with the characteristics of the videos themselves. Therefore, the construction of online teaching resources and the application of teaching methods should consider the requirements of different student groups and provide a variety of online curriculum resources.

In a changing learning environment where young neurointerventionalists spend less time in the operating room, computer simulators have been established as a new training model. Our aim was the comparison of silicone models and computer simulators, and the evaluation of their influence on subjective self-confidence of operators. Pre- and postquestionnaires of 27 participants and 9 tutors were evaluated after the participation in a three-days interventional stroke course using silicone models and computer simulators. Training on computer simulators was considered as more realistic and important before patient contact than training on silicone models. Participants rated their own abilities as significantly better after participation in the course and felt significantly better prepared for patient care. Training on computer simulators can increase the subjective self-confidence of trainees. We suggest a stepwise training program, comprising both ex-vivo and the porcine in-vivo model, finished by conventional operating room teaching, to prepare neuroradiologists for optimal patient care when performing interventions.

In the UK, it is currently recommended that owned cats be neutered from four months of age. However, its uptake is inconsistent across the veterinary profession. Here we assess the effect of a brief video intervention that aimed to encourage four month neutering, whilst preserving clinical autonomy. We compare this theory-driven approach with traditional information giving and a control group. Veterinary surgeons who regularly undertook feline neutering work in the UK but did not routinely neuter cats at four months and/or recommend four month neutering for client owned cats were randomised into three groups (n = 234). Participants received either no information, a written summary of evidence or the video. The primary behaviour outcomes were the recommending and carrying out of neutering cats at four months. Evaluative, belief and stages of change measures were also collected. Self-reported outcomes were assessed pre-intervention, immediately post-intervention, two months post-intervention and six months post-intervention. At two months, participants that had received the video intervention were significantly more likely to have started recommending neutering cats at four months. At six months, participants that had received the video intervention were significantly more likely to have started carrying out neutering cats at four months. There were no significant behaviour changes for the other groups. At two months, the video intervention was associated with a significant increase in thinking about, and speaking to colleagues about, four-month neutering, relative to the control group. The written summary of evidence had no similar effect on stages of change, despite it being perceived as a significantly more helpful resource relative to the video. To conclude, a brief one-off video intervention resulted in an increase in positive behaviours towards neutering cats at 4 months, likely mediated by the social influences of the intervention prompting the opportunity to reflect and discuss four-month neutering with colleagues.

Understanding the behaviour of scattered radiation is important for learning appropriate radiation protection methods, but many existing visualisation systems for radiation require special devices, making it difficult to use them in education. The purpose of this study was to develop teaching material for radiation protection that can help visualise the scattered radiation with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) on a web browser, develop a method for using it in education and examine its effectiveness. The distribution of radiation during radiography was calculated using Monte Carlo simulation, and teaching material was created. The material was used in a class for department of radiological technology students and its influence on motivation was evaluated using a questionnaire based on the evaluation model for teaching materials. In addition, text mining was used to evaluate impressions objectively. Educational material was developed that can be used in AR and VR for studying the behaviour of scattered radiation. The results of the questionnaire showed that the average value of each item was more than four on a five-point scale, indicating that the teaching material attracted the interest of users. Through text mining, it could be concluded that there was improved understanding of, and confidence in, radiation protection.

ABSTRACT Objective: To develop and examine the usability of a mobile application aimed at improving knowledge about ocular surface tumors among medical students, general practitioners and ophthalmologists. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out by a multidisciplinary team and developed in three stages: administration of a specific questionnaire to medical students, assessing the demand for the application, creation and development of the application in collaboration with the Technological Innovation Laboratory of Centro Universitário Christus and usability assessment. General practitioners and ophthalmologists were selected to answer the System Usability Scale questionnaire. Data were exported into the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 20.0 Windows, for quantitative analysis. Results: The OncoEye application was developed for the iOS and the Android platforms and included four main menus: Glossary, Patients, Referrals and Queries. Most students (89.9%) considered the development of the application important for wider access to information about the topic. Most students (39.9%) were able to recognize ocular lesions and 26.1% could distinguish between benign and malignant conditions. System Usability Scale questionnaire responses revealed good usability, with an average score of 92.65. Users (100%) described the application as user-friendly and well- integrated. Conclusion: An innovative application for ocular surface tumors was created and developed. The application achieved good levels of acceptance and was described as user-friendly by users.

RESUMO Objetivo: Desenvolver e avaliar a usabilidade de um aplicativo para dispositivos móveis que aprimore o conhecimento de estudantes de medicina e de médicos sobre tumores da superfície ocular. Métodos: Foi realizado estudo transversal e quantitativo por uma equipe multiprofissional, consistindo em três etapas: realização de um questionário específico com estudantes de medicina, avaliando a necessidade de elaboração do aplicativo; criação e desenvolvimento do aplicativo pelo Laboratório de Inovação Tecnológica do Centro Universitário Christus e avaliação de usabilidade. Médicos generalistas e oftalmologistas foram selecionados para responder ao questionário System Usability Scale. Os dados foram exportados para o programa Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, versão 20.0, para Windows para análise quantitativa. Resultados: O aplicativo OncoEye foi desenvolvido com quatro menus principais: Glossário, Pacientes, Encaminhamento e Perguntas. Dentre os estudantes, 89,9% consideraram o desenvolvimento do aplicativo importante para orientação sobre o tema, 39,9% souberam reconhecer lesão ocular, e 26,1% puderam diferenciar lesão ocular maligna ou benigna. As respostas dos usuários à ferramenta System Usability Scale demonstraram boa usabilidade, com pontuação média de 92,65 (87,74 a 97,55). Todos os usuários consideraram o aplicativo de fácil manuseio e bem integrado. Conclusão: Um aplicativo inovador para tumores da superfície ocular foi criado e desenvolvido, apresentando boa aceitação e fácil manuseio pelos usuários.

ABSTRACT Teaching with a multisensory approach helps students link new information to prior knowledge and understand relationships between concepts. This study aimed to reflect on convergences between the Multisensory Integration Approach Model with the Learning Assimilation Theory and Meaningful Retention with Bloom's Cognitive Process Domain, and to propose a taxonomic table of lesson planning for teaching Acute Coronary Syndrome, considering the confluence of these references. The three frameworks consider the importance of students' prior knowledge, the process of abstraction and generalization of knowledge, and the relationship between working and long-term memory. By observing such convergences and the taxonomic table produced, it is observed that teaching topics of interest to nursing undergraduate students, adopting the Multisensory Integration Approach Model as a taxonomic table component (pre-organizing or recall activities to arouse different sensory perceptions aligned with instructional objectives and forms of assessment), in the light of the Learning Assimilation Theory and Meaningful Retention, has the potential to favor the reception and processing of instructional content.

RESUMEN La enseñanza con un enfoque multisensorial ayuda al alumno a vincular la nueva información con el conocimiento previo y a comprender las relaciones entre los conceptos. El objetivo de este estudio es reflexionar sobre las convergencias entre el Modelo de Enfoque de Integración Multisensorial con la Teoría de la Asimilación y Retención del Aprendizaje Significativo con el Dominio de los Procesos Cognitivos de Bloom, y proponer una tabla taxonómica de planificación de lecciones para la enseñanza del Síndrome Coronario Agudo, en vista de la confluencia de estas referencias. Los tres marcos consideran la importancia del conocimiento previo del estudiante, el proceso de abstracción y generalización del conocimiento, y la relación entre la memoria de trabajo y la memoria a largo plazo. Al observar tales convergencias y la tabla taxonómica producida, se observa que la enseñanza de temas de interés para los estudiantes de enfermería, adoptando el Modelo de Enfoque de Integración Multisensorial como componente de la tabla taxonómica (actividades previas a la organización o recordación para suscitar diferentes percepciones sensoriales alineadas con objetivos instruccionales y formas de evaluación), a la luz de la Teoría de la Asimilación y Retención del Aprendizaje Significativo, tiene el potencial de favorecer la recepción y procesamiento del contenido instructivo.

RESUMO Ensinar com abordagem multissensorial auxilia o aluno a vincular informações novas ao conhecimento prévio e a entender relações entre conceitos. O objetivo deste estudo é refletir sobre convergências entre o Modelo de Abordagem de Integração Multissensorial com a Teoria da Assimilação da Aprendizagem e da Retenção Significativas com o Domínio dos Processos Cognitivos de Bloom, e propor uma tabela taxonômica de planejamento de aula para o ensino de Síndrome Coronariana Aguda, tendo em vista a confluência desses referenciais. Os três referenciais consideram a importância do conhecimento prévio do aluno, do processo de abstração e generalização do conhecimento e o relacionamento entre memória de trabalho e de longo prazo. Ao observar tais convergências e a tabela taxonômica produzida, observa-se que ensinar temas de interesse para graduandos de enfermagem, adotando o Modelo de Abordagem de Integração Multissensorial como um componente da tabela taxonômica (atividades pré-organizadoras ou de recall para suscitar diferentes percepções sensoriais alinhadas aos objetivos instrucionais e formas de avaliação), à luz da Teoria da Assimilação da Aprendizagem e da Retenção Significativas, tem potencial para favorecer a recepção e o processamento de conteúdos de instrução.

Introducción: Estudios realizados en los últimos años señalan dificultades en torno al componente investigativo del programa de formación del médico general integral destacando la inadecuada utilización de la Estadística por parte de sus especialistas en estrecha relación con insuficiencias que tienen lugar durante su formación. Objetivo: Proponer algunas consideraciones didácticas para dar solución a las inconsistencias que presenta la formación de la dimensión investigativa de los especialistas en medicina general integral en relación a la utilización de la Estadística. Material y Métodos: Revisión documental de artículos y trabajos referentes al estado actual del uso de la Estadística en la actividad científica de médicos generales integrales y su relación con insuficiencias durante la formación de la dimensión investigativa de estos especialistas. Las fuentes de información consultadas fueron accedidas a través de diferentes buscadores y bases de datos, entre ellas SciELO, Google Académico, Medline y Pubmed. Resultados y discusión: Los trabajos analizados demuestran que el proceso de formación de la dimensión investigativa de los especialistas de medicina general integral manifiesta insuficiencias durante la aplicación de la Estadística, determinado por una inadecuada instrumentación de sus contenidos en el programa docente. Conclusiones: Existe una instrumentación inadecuada de la Estadística en el programa docente para el desarrollo de la dimensión investigativa de los especialistas de medicina general integral. Se sugieren algunas consideraciones didácticas para la instrumentación de la Estadística en la formación del médico general integral(AU)

Introduction: Studies carried out in recent years indicate difficulties around the investigative component of the comprehensive general practitioner training program, highlighting the inadequate use of Statistics by its specialists in close relation to shortcomings that occur during their training. Objective: To propose some didactic considerations to solve the inconsistencies presented by the training of the investigative dimension of specialists in comprehensive general medicine in relation to the use of Statistics. Material and Methods: Documentary review of articles and works referring to the current state of the use of Statistics in the scientific activity of comprehensive general practitioners and its relationship with deficiencies during the training of the investigative dimension of these specialists. The sources of information consulted were accessed through different search engines and databases, including SciELO, Google Academic, Medline and Pubmed. Results and Discussion: The analyzed works show that the process of formation of the investigative dimension of the specialists of integral general medicine shows insufficiencies during the application of the Statistics, determined by an inadequate instrumentation of its contents in the teaching program. Conclusions: There is an inadequate instrumentation of Statistics in the teaching program for the development of the investigative dimension of specialists in general comprehensive medicine. Some didactic considerations are suggested for the instrumentation of Statistics in the training of the comprehensive general practitioner(AU)

The skill of analyzing and interpreting research data is central to the scientific process, yet it is one of the hardest skills for students to master. While instructors can coach students through the analysis of data that they have either generated themselves or obtained from published articles, the burgeoning availability of preprint articles provides a new potential pedagogical tool. We developed a new method in which students use a cognitive apprenticeship model to uncover how experts analyzed a paper and compare the professional's cognitive approach to their own. Specifically, students first critique research data themselves and then identify changes between the preprint and final versions of the paper that were likely the results of peer review. From this activity, students reported diverse insights into the processes of data presentation, peer review, and scientific publishing. Analysis of preprint articles is therefore a valuable new tool to strengthen students' information literacy and understanding of the process of science.
