RESUMO
Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar a prevalência de polifármacos em grupo de idosos do Município de Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa observacional, cujos dados foram coletados de um banco de dados de pesquisa realizada em 2016 (Prevalência de atividade física e comportamento sedentário em idosos do município de Francisco Beltrão, Paraná). Participaram do estudo 319 idosos com 60 anos ou mais, de ambos os sexos, residentes no município de Francisco Beltrão. Os dados foram analisados por meio de estatísticas descritivas e teste t de Student, o nível de significância adotado de foi de p < 0,05. Observou-se que 95 idosos (29,80%) relataram consumo frequente de quatro ou mais medicamentos, sendo que a média de quantidade total de medicamentos consumidos pelos idosos foi de 2,79 ± 2,09 medicamentos. Em relação aos idosos classificados com uso de polifármacos, as maiores prevalências foram verificadas nas mulheres (65,3%), naqueles com idades entre 60 e 69 anos (51,6%) e nos idosos com alguma escolarização básica (85,2%). Contudo, não foram identificadas diferenças significantes de polifármacos entre os sexos, idades ou escolaridade (p > 0,05). O consumo de medicamento para Hipertensão Arterial foi o mais relatado pelos idosos avaliados. Conclui-se que, 29,8% dos idosos deste estudo relataram consumir com frequência quatro ou mais medicamentos, e que as mulheres, idosos com alguma escolarização básica e os idosos mais jovens foram os que apresentaram maior prevalência de polifarmácia.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of polypharmaceuticals in a group of elderly people in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão, in the state of Paraná. This is an observational study, with data collected from the research database carried out in 2016 (Prevalence of physical activity and sedentary behavior in the elderly in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão, Paraná). The study included 319 individuals aged 60 years or older, of both sexes, living in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Student's t test, with a p significance level of < 0.05. It was observed that 95 individuals (29.8%) reported frequent consumption of four or more medications, and the average total amount of medication consumed by the elderly was 2.79 ± 2.09 medications. Regarding the elderly classified as using polypharmaceuticals, the highest prevalence was found among women (65.3%), in those aged from 60 to 69 years old (51.6%) and in the elderly with some basic education (85.2%). However, no significant differences in polypharmaceutical use were identified between genders, ages or education (p > 0.05). The consumption of medication for high blood pressure was the most frequently reported by the elderly evaluated. The study concluded that 29.8% of the individuals participating in this study reported that they frequently consumed four or more medications, and that elderly women, with some basic education, and younger elderly people, were those with the highest prevalence of polypharmaceutical use.
