ABSTRACT
This paper intends to discuss some problematic issues towards the contemporary violence, but in this case, linking my analysis to two basic references in one hand, the text will based on the psychoanalytical category of drive and its articulations with violence and cruelty; in the other hand, I’ll bring the work of two contemporary artists, Carmela Gross and Arthur Barrio, that “figurabilicizes” two of the most violent episodes of our Brazilian history the military dictatorship of 1960’s and 1970’s and the slavery regime of our Colonial Period. In this way, the analysis highlights the fine irony of these images, setting us a dimension of one critical paradigm which interests art history, but also the contemporary psychological thinking which focuses on this subject.
