Integración de la familia en los cuidados del paciente hospitalizado / Integration of the family in the hospitalized patient´s care

RESUMEN

Habitualmente, la familia juega un papel inestimable en el cuidado de las personas dependientes, hasta el punto de que el concepto de cuidador informal forma parte del discurso habitual de los profesionales sanitarios. A pesar de ello, su participación en el cuidado del paciente hospitalizado es aún muy baja. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido revisar las evidencias disponibles respecto a las ventajas de promover la participación de la familia en el cuidado del paciente hospitalizado, así como a las recomendaciones que en esta materia han realizado distintas sociedades científicas y organizaciones profesionales. También se ha querido estudiar lo establecido en la normativa vigente en España respecto a la presencia de la familia durante el acto profesional de cuidado. Para ello se revisaron distintas bases de datos y recomendaciones de organismos oficiales de la salud sobre la familia y el paciente, así como la legislación estatal, autonómica y local. La evidencia aportada pone de manifiesto que es de gran utilidad para fomentar la mejora y el bienestar del paciente que esté acompañado por su familia durante la hospitalización y que esta participe de manera activa en el cuidado (AU)

ABSTRACT

Normally, family plays an invaluable role concerning the dependent people care, to the extent that the concept of informal care is part of the common speech among the healthcare professionals. However, the participation of relatives in the health care of those hospitalized is still very low. The objective of this paper was to review the available evidence regarding the advantages of promoting the family participation in the hospitalized patient’s healthcare, as well as the recommendations that several scientific societies and professional organizations have made in this sense. It has been also studied what is established in the Spanish current law in relation to the presence of the family during the professional process of healthcare. For this, diverse databases and official health organizations’ recommendations about the family and the patient were revised, as well as the national, autonomic and local legislation. The evidence provided shows that the accompaniment of the family and its active participation in the healthcare of the patient is very useful to promote its recovering and well-being during its hospitalization (AU)
