As bases biológicas da doença da alzheimer / the biological basis of alzheimer disease

RESUMO

O acúmulo recente de conhecimento sobre a neuropatologia, a genética e a neuroquímica da Doença de Alzheimer possibilitou-nos desenvolver hipóteses mais acuradas sobre a sua possível etiologia e, por consequência, o desenvolvimento de novas estratégias para prevenção e tratamento. Além disso, permitiu-nos entender mais racionalmente suas manifestações clínicas e os tratamentos disponíveis atualmente na prática clínica.

ABSTRACT

The recent growing body of evidence about Alzheimer Disease neuropathological, genetics and neurochemical features, allows the development of more accurate hypothess about its etiology and, consequently, the stablishment of new strategies for prevention and treatment of this pathology, which become, each day, more prevalent in many countries including Brazil. Moreover, this knowledge permits us to understand the clinical features and the available treatments for this pathology.
