ABSTRACT
The preservation of the body in balance is a complex and dependent phenomenon of multiple mechanisms. This functionality happens with the interaction of central nervous system, motor system, somatosensory system, vestibular and visual. The somatosensorial component is also important in the accomplishment of the daily activities of the individual. After a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), the hemiparetic can present alterations in the components of balance. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the balance, mobility and functionality in hemiparetic patients and to correlate the alterations of the component somatosensorial of the balance and the Berg Balance Scale, modified Barthel and Rivermead. The sample was constituted by 10 hemiplegic patients with age among 42 and 68 years old that were appraised through Dynamic Posturografia and of the functionality tests. The results indicate positive influences somatosensory in balance and functioning of the individual, through the correlation between assessments of functionality of the Berg test (p = 0.0001) and Rivermead (p = 0.0345). To test the modified Barthel (p = 0.0523) correlation was not significant. The somatosensory component balance has a positive correlation with the indices Berg, Modified Barthel and Rivermead, demonstrating the importance of this component front the performances of mobility and functionality in subjects with hemiplegia.
