ABSTRACT
"Humans are often slow and reluctant to accept change in the form of inventions; neurodevelopments and the like; but enthusiastically embraced anesthesia. Mankind was ready for anaesthesia; and indeed had been waiting for it for long. Now surgery can be performed with greater care and attention to detail. Procedures that could not have been considered previously can now be developed and undertaken. The patient was insensitive to pain during the procedure and a great deal safer. The significant milestones in the advancement of surgery were dependent upon advances in anesthesia either making new procedures possible or developed in response to the challenges of the new demands of surgery. Depending on the country's resources; the cadre of health workers who conduct anaesthesia varies. In Uganda and much of the developing countries there are Physician Anaesthetist (Anaesthesiologists) and Anaesthetic Officers. the common perception if that the Abnaesthetist ""puts people to sleep"". It is often wondered why one needs to train just to put patients to sleep! The reality is that the role of an anaesthetist is wide ranging and flexible depending on their level of training."
