RESUMEN

En la última década, muchos estudios comprueban o sugieren que algunos de los llamados alimentos funcionales pueden proyectar su eficacia madurativa y preventiva del niño al adulto. Entre ellos, los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados de cadena larga (LC-PUFA) desempeñan un importante papel tanto en el desarrollo del sistema nervioso como en la prevención de diferentes enfermedades neuropsiquiátricas. Otros nutrientes, como los nucleótidos, los oligosacáridos, los gangliósidos, el colesterol o los micronutrientes (hierro, cinc, ácido fólico), también están involucrados directa o indirectamente en la salud mental del propio niño o el adulto, y se describen más someramente en este artículo de revisión(AU)

ABSTRACT

Over the last decade many studies have proven or suggested that some of the so-called functional foods can project their development and preventative efficacy from the child to the adult. Among those foods, long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) play an important role both in the development of the nervous system as well as in the prevention of different neuropsychiatric diseases. Other nutrients like nucleotides, oligosaccharides, gangliosides, cholesterol or micronutrients like iron, zinc and folic acid are also directly or indirectly involved the mental health of the child or the adult, and are described more superficially in this review article(AU)
