ABSTRACT
The purpose of the present study was to investigate and describe the influence of the chemical properties of titanium surfaces on the biological bone response. Surface properties, such as surface chemistry and energy, play a crucial role in biological interactions because of molecular rearrangements, surface reactions and contamination, and the release of ions during cell-surface interaction. The advantage of chemical bonding is that it enhances bone apposition during the early stages of bone regeneration. Modifications in surface chemistry can improve the outcome of implants in grafted bone, irradiated bone or low-density alveolar bone. In addition, to optimizing the procedure, it may permit earlier loading of the implants after six weeks.
