ABSTRACT

PURPOSE:

To report on a reversibility of a retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) detachment in association with marked short-term changes in intraocular pressure (IOP). MATERIALS AND

METHODS:

Three patients underwent a dark room provocative test for the diagnosis of angle-closure glaucoma. A spectral-domain optical coherent tomography of the macula was additionally performed.

RESULTS:

On the macula optical coherent tomography images, all 3 patients showed an RPE detachment with decreased or completely disappeared after an IOP rise by 5 to 25 mm Hg, and which recurred after normalization of IOP.

CONCLUSION:

Slight detachments of the RPE may depend on acute IOP changes.
