ABSTRACT
This book is meant to complement rather than compete with the larger textbooks of urology. It emphasizes pathophysiologic concepts, correlates diagnostic testing with pathophysiology and documents the scientific basis for the treatment of the common diseases of the genito-urinary tract. It bridges the gap between basis science and the clinical practice of urology by filling the existing void between large, standard texts and urologic journals. It is my hope that urology residents and postgraduate trainees will find this book stimulating, informative and up-to-date. It should have primary appeal to individuals preparing for certification by the American Board of Urology, the Royal Colleges of Surgeons and other certifying bodies. Practicing urologists and medical students should also benefit from its emphasis on pathophysiologic concepts and treatment. As a concise reference to urologic disease, obstetricians, gynecologists, nephrologists and general surgeons should find it readable (AU)
