ABSTRACT
The Becker Penetration Test has seen increased use in North America as an in situ technique for measuring the liquefaction potencial of gravelly soils. This test involves the use of a large dynamic penetrometer and incorporates elements of both pile driving and the Standard Penetration Test. Despite its increasing use, it remains a non-standard test with may uncertainties involving driving energy and casing friction. This paper describes the development of the test, its aplication, and recommendation for its use in the assessment of liquefacion potencial. (AU)
