ABSTRACT
Twenty diabetic patients and five normal control subjects were studied to assess the level of glycosylated hemoglobin and its relation to hyperglycemia and vascular complications. The diabetic patients were divided into two groups with and without evidence of vascular complications. It was found that the diabetic patients had a mean GHB concentrations of 13.6 + 2.93% [mean + SD] which was significantly higher than that of the normal controls who had amean GHB concentration of 7.06 2.04% [mean + SD]. No statistically significant difference was found between those with andwithoutvascular complications. There was also no significant difference in GHB levels between male and female diabetics as well as between insulin dependent and non insulin dependent diabetics
