OBJECTIVE:
to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness for anxiety treatment in patients with generalized anxiety disorder managed in a health centre from the Comunidad de Madrid. MATERIALS ANDMETHOD:
a before-after quasi-experimental study was conducted, without control group, in patients diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Anxiety levels were measured through the Goldberg Scale, and anxiolytic medication taken through a self-prepared survey, before, at one month, and at five months of the intervention. McNemar Test was conducted for the comparison of outcome variables before and after the intervention.RESULTS:
of the 19 patients included, 17 improved at one month after the intervention, and 13 of the 19 at 5 months after the intervention. Regarding medication, favourable results were obtained, but these were not statistically significant.CONCLUSIONS:
Mindfulness appears effective as a coadjuvant therapy for the treatment of anxiety, though further research about this matter will be necessary
