ABSTRACT
Preservatiion of urogenital autonomic innervation in rectal cancer surgery devolped in these recent years, in a matter of great interest and attention of the most experienced centers in the world. The development of different techniques for urogenital nervous preservation was parallel to the increasing importance given to the total mesorectal excision...The most important aim of future studies, will be the consideration if this surgical tecnique, can be generalized to non-specialized centers and surgeons, without an adequate knowledge of total mesorectal excision, without provoking the risk of a rapid increase on the rates of locoregional recurrences. Further prospective multicentric, randomized controlled studies are required to clear up this question
