ABSTRACT
For this investigation 31 mixed breed dogs, males and females from the kenneel of the Faculty of Dentistry, UNESP, Araçatuba (SP), were used. The specimes were fixed in 10 per cente formaldehyde solution, which was injected into the arteria carotis communis dextra. The diaphragm was isolated, including its sternal portion. The branches of the intercostal nerves supplying the diaphragm were dissected and identified, then drawings were made and photographs were taken. The contribution of the intercostal nerves (from 8(th) to the 12(th) pairs) to supply the canine diaphragm occurred in 93.5 per cente of the cases.
