ABSTRACT
The bond, defined as a natural and lasting loving relationship, is an important basis for the child development because it is in the establishment of the first baby's ties to his mother where the foundations of psychic life and child mental health are created. The purpose of this study is identifying the empirical studies on the formation of the mother-baby bond, from pregnancy to postpartum. There were found in the scientific databases studies published between 1984-2014 indexed in Virtual Health Library (VHL). The descriptor used was "mother-child relation" and "maternal-fetal relation". There were found 887 scientific papers and, after filter of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 22 remaining articles were fully analyzed. From among the research topics are pointed out desire to be a mother; maternal-fetal attachment; pregnancy and ambivalent feelings; physical and early contact; network support; breastfeeding and bonding; affective investment; separation anxiety, birth in adverses situations and; childbirth and human assistance. The studies suggests a reflection of interventionist measures that separate mother and baby immediately after birth, since that first contact is crucial to the development of the mother-child bond.(AU)
