Considerations of the possible aetiology of uterine fibroids

ABSTRACT

Confusing and conflicting theories of the aetiology of uterine fibroids have been presented. Clinical investigations and animal experimenters have provided multiple theories, some coinciding and others conflicting. Pathologists have not universally accepted the clinical and laboratory material presented, but oestrogenic stimulation and heredity have been accepted to be the factors that act upon immature or susceptible cell elements in the myometrium.
