CONHECIMENTO TRADICIONAL NO MANEJO DO PIRARUCU Arapaima gigas (Schinz, 1822) NA ILHA DA PACIÊNCIA, MUNICIPIO DE IRANDUBA, AMAZONAS

RESUMO

O pirarucu Arapaima gigas é um peixe de grande importância social e econômica e o seu manejo é uma das estratégias utilizadas para promover a conservação deste recurso, contribuindo, assim, para um aumento significativo da espécie em lagos manejados. No presente trabalho objetivou-se compreender o manejo comunitário do pirarucu Arapaima gigas, na ilha da Paciência Iranduba, Amazonas, a partir do etnoconhecimento dos pescadores participantes. A coleta de dados primários foi realizada por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, aplicadas individualmente, contendo perguntas objetivas e subjetivas, sobre o histórico do manejo, aspectos biológicos e ecológicos do pirarucu e percepção do pescador sobre a atividade. Foram realizadas análise estatísticas descritivas, análise de consenso índice de fidelidade e o uso da tabela cognitiva. Foram entrevistados 19 pescadores participantes do manejo. Na pesca, a captura e o uso dos apetrechos estão relacionados ao período do ciclo hidrológico. Sobre os aspectos bioecológicos do pirarucu, os pescadores descreveram sobre a alimentação, vários itens alimentares dentre eles peixes, crustáceos e moluscos; migração, o pirarucu faz deslocamento entre os ambientes rio, lago, igapó de acordo com a sazonalidade; E reprodução, local e época de desova. A maioria destas informações estão de acordo com a literatura cientifica consultada. O acordo de pesca foi fundamental para realização do manejo e na contribuição para diminuição dos conflitos entre pescadores da ilha e de fora. Os pescadores afirmaram que o número de pirarucus vem aumentando ao longo do tempo o que é confirmado pelo resultado das contagens. Os resultados dos indicadores de avaliação do manejo não foram considerados eficientes com relação ao sistema de vigilância, a distribuição de benefícios e a capacidade de pesca. Sendo assim, como o manejo do pirarucu trata-se de um manejo adaptativo, o conhecimento detalhado dos pescadores é significativo e essencial nas discussões para propor adaptações das questões do manejo do pirarucu da ilha, isso tudo proporcionando melhorias na atividade.

ABSTRACT

The pirarucu Arapaima gigas is a fish of great social and economic importance and its management is one of the strategies to promote resource conservation, thus contributing to a significant increase in species managed lakes. This study aimed to understand the community management of pirarucu Arapaima gigas, on the Paciencia Island Iranduba city, Amazonas, based on the ethnoknowledge of the participating fishermen. The primary data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, applied individually, with objective and subjective questions about the management of the historical, biological and ecological aspects of the arapaima and perception of fisherman on the activity. Descriptive statistics analysis, consensus analysis - fidelity index and the use of the cognitive table were performed. We interviewed 19 fishermen participating in the management. In the fishery, the target fish and the use of the fishing tackle are related to the period of the hydrological cycle.On the ecological aspects of the pirarucu, fishermen described several food items among them fish, crustaceans and molluscs, the pirarucu makes displacement between the environments river, lake, igapó according to the seasonality, changes its behavior during the spawning period. Most of this information is in agreement with the scientific literature consulted. The fisheries agreement was a fundamental tool for carrying out the management and contributing to the reduction of conflicts. Fishermen say that the number of pirarucus is increasing, which is confirmed by the result of the counts. In the management, the surveillance system was indicated as the worst indicator and the commercialization was the best. Therefore, as the management of the pirarucu is an adaptive management, the knowledge of these fishermen is significant for deepening questions of the management of the pirarucu of the island, since they can provide improvements in the activity.
