The aim of this study was to know the national and international scientific evidence on the types of occupational violence experienced by the nursing staff. This is an integrative literaturereview. Data collection took place in 2018 from MEDLINE databases via PubMed, LILACS and BDENF. The review found 31 articles that answered a research question. Physical and psychological violence were the main ones experienced by nursing professionals. The place with the highest incidence of violence was the emergency service in national surveys, and the mental health institutions and primary care in international surveys. The main reasons given for the outbreaks were the patient's pathology, work overload, and workers' stress. Although occupational violence is present in different services, its investigation is recent, and this relevant topic shall be further studied. (AU)
