The aim of this study was to understand the interactions between anthropometric, kinetic, and kinematic variables and how they determine the 100 m freestyle performance in young swimmers. Twenty-five adolescent swimmers (15 male and 10 female, aged 15.75 ± 1.01 years) who regularly participated in regional and national competitions were recruited. The 100 m freestyle performance was chosen as the variable to be predicted. A series of anthropometric (hand surface area-HSA), kinetic (thrust and active drag coefficient (CDA )), and kinematic (stroke length (SL); stroke frequency (SF), and swimming speed) variables were measured. Structural equation modeling (via path analysis) was used to develop and test the model. The initial model predicted performance with 90.1% accuracy. All paths were significant (p < 0.05) except the thrust-SL. After deleting this non-significant path (thrust-SL) and recalculating, the model goodness-of-fit improved and all paths were significant (p < 0.05). The predicted performance was 90.2%. Anthropometrics had significant effects on kinetics, which had significant effects on kinematics, and consequently on the 100 m freestyle performance. The cascade of interactions based on this path-flow model allowed for a meaningful prediction of the 100 m freestyle performance. Based on these results, coaches and swimmers should be aware that the swimming predictors can first meaningfully interact with each other to ultimately predict the 100 m freestyle performance.

Coherence length (Lc) of the Raman scattering process in graphene as a function of Fermi energy is obtained with spatially coherent tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Lc decreases when the Fermi energy is moved into the neutrality point, consistent with the concept of the Kohn anomaly within a ballistic transport regime. Since the Raman scattering involves electrons and phonons, the observed results can be rationalized either as due to unusually large variation of the longitudinal optical phonon group velocity vg, reaching twice the value for the longitudinal acoustic phonon, or due to changes in the electron energy uncertainty, both properties being important for optical and transport phenomena that might not be observable by any other technique.

Despite the numerous scientific evidence on the topic, there is no clear and consistent answer that clarifies the true effects of beetroot juice (BJ) supplementation on different types of physical performance. This study examined whether an acute intake of BJ improves swimming performance, physiological variables of anaerobic metabolism, or subjective measures during high-intensity interval exercise with incomplete rest in competitive swimmers. Eighteen competitive swimmers (nine females and nine males) participated in this cross-over randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind and counterbalanced study. In two trials, swimmers ingested BJ (70 mL, 6.4 mmol/400 mg NO3-) or placebo (PLA) (70 mL, 0.04 mmol/3 mg NO3-) three hours before a 2×6×100 m maximal effort with 40 seconds rest between repetitions and three minutes between blocks. The 100 m times showed no differences between groups (p > 0.05), but there was an interaction between block×repetition×condition (F5 = 3.10; p = 0.046; ηp2 = 0.54), indicating that the BJ group decreased the time of the sixth repetition of block2 compared to block1 (p = 0.01). Lactate concentration showed no differences between conditions (p > 0.05), but there was a main effect of block (ηp2 = 0.60) and a block×repetition interaction (ηp2 = 0.70), indicating higher values in block2 and increasing values between repetitions in block1. The subjective scales, perception of exertion (RPE) and Total Quality Recovery (TQR), showed no effects of condition (p > 0.05), but BJ swimmers had a greater TQR in the last repetitions of each block. In conclusion, a single dose of BJ did not enhance intermittent swimming performance or modified the physiological (lactate and heart rate) or subjective (RPE and TQR) variables; although there was a possible positive effect on the exercise tolerance at the end of effort.

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment of displaced proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) in the older people population remains controversial. Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is a popular surgical treatment option that provides improved and reproducible results. However, the relevance of fracture-specific stem designs for RSA to improve tuberosity consolidation and shoulder function remains debatable. METHODS: This study included all patients 70 years or older with acute and displaced PHFs primarily treated with RSA at a single institution in Portugal, between January 2010 and December 2019 who participated in a minimum follow-up of 2 years. RESULTS: A total of 112 patients (15 men and 97 women) with a median clinical follow-up of 52 months were included. The mean age at the time of fracture was 78.6 years. All fractures were classified as Neer types 3 and 4 (n = 50 and n = 62, respectively). A window bone ingrowth fracture-specific stem was used for 86 patients, and a conventional humeral stem was used for 26 patients. Regarding the tuberosity fixation technique, 76 tuberosities were attached using technique A (according to Boileau's principles), 36 tuberosities were attached using technique B (not following Boileau's principles) and 11cases were classified as technique C (if fixation was not possible). The overall survival rate during the 2-year follow-up was 88.2%; however, this decreased to 79% at 5 years. Only three patients had complications (two infections and one dislocation) requiring revision surgery. In the multivariable analysis, the tuberosity fixation technique (P = 0.012) and tuberosity anatomical consolidation (P < 0.001) were associated with improved Constant scores (median Constant Score 62.67 (technique A), 55.32 (technique B), 49.70 (technique C). Fracture-specific humeral implants (P = 0.051), the tuberosity fixation technique (P = 0.041), tuberosity anatomical consolidation (P < 0.001), and dementia influenced the achievement of functional mobility (P = 0.014). Tuberosity anatomic consolidation was positively associated with bone ingrowth fracture-specific humeral implants (P < 0.01) and a strong tuberosity fixation technique (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: RSA is used for complex and displaced fractures of the proximal humerus in older patients. Dementia was negatively correlated with functional outcomes. A window bone ingrowth fracture-specific stem combined with strong tuberosity fixation can yield better clinical and radiological results. The coconut (Cocos nucifera L., Arecaceae) is one of the most important tropical species used by humans. In Brazil, its cultivation has been expanding in the recent years (Souza et al. 2020) and many diseases have emerged. The pestalotia spot, caused by Pestalotiopsis guepinii (Desm.), is a leaf disease of the coconut characterized by elliptic lesions with defined dark borders varying in size from 3 to 5 mm (Cardoso et al. 2003). In January of 2018, leaves with symptoms of pestalotia spot were obtained from ten year old coconut plants "dwarf variety" in a commercial planting in the city of Neópolis (10°20'S/36°42'W), Sergipe, Brazil. Disease incidence was 80% on 60 plants observed. Twenty samples of symptomatic tissues were collected and disinfested for 2 min in 1% sodium hypochlorite, washed in sterile water, placed on PDA (potato dextrose agar), and incubated at 25 ± 1°C with a 12-h photoperiod for 4 days. Five isolates were obtained, and pure cultures deposited in Phytopathogen Collection of the Federal University of Alagoas, accession numbers: COUFAL0240 to COUFAL0244. Seven day old colonies grown on PDA at 25°C, were whitish with aerial mycelium on the surface and abundant production of black conidiomata. Conidia were fusiform, straight to slightly curved with five cells, three median cells with brown coloring being the second and third being darker and the apical and basal cells, hyaline. Fifty conidia were measured and varied in size from 20.02-24.26 x 5.37-7.50 µm. The conidia presented two to four apical appendages and one basal appendage (Fig. S1). The morphological characteristics coincide with the Neopestalotiopsis foedans (Sacc. & Ellis), Maharachchikumbura et al. (2014). Molecular identification was conducted using partial nucleotide sequences from the ITS (ITS1/ITS4) region (GenBank no. MT605375 to MT605379) and from the genes TUB2 (Bt2a/Bt2B) (no. MT634202 to MT634206) and TEF-1α (526F/1567R) (no. MT634197 to MT634201). Besides that, the isolates grouped with the ex-type N. foedans species (CGMCC 3.9123) in a phylogenetic tree of Bayesian inference using concatenated sequences (Fig. S2). The pathogenicity was confirmed on seedling from coconut plants "dwarf variety" maintained in a greenhouse. Four plants were used, being one as a control. Spore suspensions of 106 conidia mL-1 was prepared from a 7 days old culture (cultivated at 25ºC). Inoculations were performed by spraying the conidial suspension on two whole leaves per plant (wounded and unwounded). In the control, sterilized distilled water was used. Plants were incubated at 25 ± 1°C and 100% relative humidity. Ten days after inoculation, depressed and necrotic lesions were observed in 100% on the inoculated leaves with wound. No symptoms observed on unwounded leaves, nor in the control treatment. To complete Koch's postulates, the N. foedans fungus was successfully re-isolated from the symptomatic leaves and identified phenotypically in optical microscope. Neopestalotiopsis foedans has already been reported in Calliandra haematocephala (Hassk), Neodypsis decaryi (Jum.), Rhizophora mangle (L.), Thuja occidentalis and Psidium guajava (L.) (Saccardo, 1882; Maharachchikumbura et al. 2014, Solarte et al. 2018). However, this is first report of N. foedans causing leaf spot in coconut in the world. The pestalotia spot is commonly observed in Brazil in C. nucifera and should be considered an important disease for this culture, as this can significantly reduce its photosynthetic area.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: When 3-dimensional printing casts, the operator can change the type of resin and the printing layer thickness, reducing the fabrication time. However, how these parameters affect the accuracy of 3-dimensionally printed casts is unknown. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of 3-dimensionally printed casts by using a stereolithography (SLA) 3-dimensional printer (Forms2) with 3 different layer thickness (25, 50, and 100 µm) and 2 different resins (Gray and Cast) and by comparing the time to obtain each cast. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One master cast was scanned, and a single file was printed several times. The printed casts were then scanned by using a laboratory scanner. The standard tessellation language (STL) files provided by the laboratory scanner were superimposed and compared by using a software program (Geomagic Control; 3D Systems). The 2-way ANOVA test was used for the trueness evaluation, followed by the Tukey test to identify differences among the groups (α=.05). RESULTS: No statistically significant differences in accuracy were found among the 3 different layers for either resin (P>.05). Printing time doubled as layer thickness decreased. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that when printing casts, the fastest printing settings can be used without losing accuracy and that the laboratory digital workflow can be accelerated with selection of the resin and cast layer, as the type of resin and layer thickness did not influence the quality of the casts.

The aim of this study was to compare the assessment of swimming speed processed as a discrete variable and as a continuous variable in young swimmers. One-hundred and twenty young swimmers (60 boys: age = 12.91 ± 0.86 years; 60 girls: age = 12.46 ± 0.94 years) were analysed. The dataset for each sex was divided into three tiers: (i) tier #1 - best-performing swimmers; (ii) tier #2: intermediate-performing swimmers, and; (iii) tier #3 - poorest-performing swimmers. As a discrete variable, swimming speed showed significant sex and tier effects, and a significant sex*tier interaction (p < 0.001). Speed fluctuation showed a non-significant sex effect (p > 0.05), a significant tier effect (p < 0.001), and a non-significant sex*tier interaction (p > 0.05). As a continuous variable, the swimming speed time-curve presented significant sex and tier effects (p < 0.001) throughout the stroke cycle, and a significant sex*tier interaction (p < 0.05) in some moments of the stroke cycle. Swimming speed fluctuation analysed as a discrete variable and as a continuous variable can be used in a complementary way. Nonetheless, SPM can provide deeper insight into differences within the stroke cycle. Thus, coaches and practitioners should be aware that different knowledge about the swimmers' stroke cycle can be learned by assessing swimming speed using both methods.

The aims of this study were to: (1) analyze and compare the stroke kinematics between junior and senior elite male swimmers in every section of the race during the 50-m freestyle event, and; (2) identify stroke frequency (SF)-stroke length (SL) combinations on swim speed independently for junior and senior swimmers in each section of the 50-m freestyle event. Eighty-six junior swimmers (2019) and 95 seniors (2021) competing in the 50-m long course meter LEN Championships were analyzed. The t-test independent samples (p ≤ 0.05) were used to compare juniors and seniors. The SF and SL combinations on swim speed were explored using three-way ANOVAs. Senior swimmers were significantly faster in the 50-m race than juniors (p < 0.001). Speed presented the largest significant difference (p < 0.001) in section S0-15 m (start until the 15th meter mark) being seniors fastest. Both junior and senior swimmers revealed a significant categorization (p < 0.001) by stroke length and stroke frequency in each race section. It was possible to model several SF-SL combinations for seniors and juniors in each section. The fastest swim speed in each section, for seniors and juniors independently, was achieved by a SF-SL combination that may not be the fastest SF or the longest SL. Coaches and swimmers must be aware that despite the 50-m event being an all-out bout, several SF-SL combinations were observed (independently for juniors and seniors), and they differ between race sections.

PURPOSE: Lumbar musculature has a fundamental role in spine stability and spinal balance. Muscle atrophy and fat infiltration play an important role in pain pathophysiology. Accordingly, the preoperative condition of lumbar muscles may influence clinical outcomes after surgical treatment. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association between preoperative lumbar paravertebral muscle fat infiltration and clinical outcomes after lumbar interbody fusion. METHODS: A retrospective study of patients with lumbar pathology submitted to lumbar transforaminal (TLIF) or posterior interbody fusion (PLIF) was performed, with a minimum of two years of follow-up. Preoperative lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images were classified for fat infiltration in lumbar multifidus muscle and correlated with clinical outcomes. RESULTS: Seventy-five patients were included: 24 submitted to PLIF and 51 to TLIF. Most patients underwent surgery for spondylolisthesis (67%). Higher degrees of fat infiltration were associated with more advanced age (54.8 vs. 49.1 years old, p = 0.04) and more leg pain after surgery (p = 0.04). No statistically significant differences in other clinical outcomes such as Oswestry Disability Index, visual analogue scale for back and leg pain, self-reported back pain relief, return to work and overall satisfaction were found between different groups of fat infiltration. The improvement in leg pain was associated with improvement in self-reported lumbar pain (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Age and preoperative degree of fat infiltration may be important to predict improvement in leg pain after lumbar interbody fusion. The absence of solid literature on this topic and universal assessment methodologies reinforce the need for further studies.

The aim of this study was to (1) analyze and compare the race performance and stability between the fastest and slowest male swimmers during the 50 m freestyle event, and (2) to understand the speed-time relationship in this race. The performances (start, clean swim, and finish) of 86 swimmers (divided into two tiers: best and poorest performances) who competed in the 50 m freestyle event in the 2019 long course LEN European Junior Championships were analyzed. The swimming speed presented a significant difference between the groups (tier #1 vs tier #2) in all sections of the race, in which the start (S0-15 m: p < 0.001, d = 1.64) and finish sections (S45-50: p < 0.001, d = 1.63) showed the greatest differences. Significant variances over the race sections were noted for both groups in all variables, in which the swimming speed was the variable with the highest variance (tier #1: p < 0.001, η2  = 0.72; tier #2: p < 0.001, η2  = 0.82). Both groups exhibited a similar normative stability, with the fastest swimmers tending to be the best in all sections. The fit analysis produced a cubic speed-time relationship. Notwithstanding, junior swimmers who raced the 50 m freestyle can be considered to have an all-out pacing. This information is of paramount importance for coaches and swimmers to understand the intra-lap race performance in this short event.

Nowadays, wearables are a must-have tool for athletes and coaches. Wearables can provide real-time feedback to athletes on their athletic performance and other training details as training load, for example. The aim of this study was to systematically review studies that assessed the accuracy of wearables providing real-time feedback in swimming. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were selected to identify relevant studies. After screening, 283 articles were analyzed and 18 related to the assessment of the accuracy of wearables providing real-time feedback in swimming were retained for qualitative synthesis. The quality index was 12.44 ± 2.71 in a range from 0 (lowest quality) to 16 (highest quality). Most articles assessed in-house built (n = 15; 83.3%) wearables in front-crawl stroke (n = 8; 44.4%), eleven articles (61.1%) analyzed the accuracy of measuring swimming kinematics, eight (44.4%) were placed on the lower back, and seven were placed on the head (38.9%). A limited number of studies analyzed wearables that are commercially available (n = 3, 16.7%). Eleven articles (61.1%) reported on the accuracy, measurement error, or consistency. From those eleven, nine (81.8%) noted that wearables are accurate.

Understanding the difference in each upper limb between age groups can provide deeper insights into swimmers' propulsion. This study aimed to: (1) compare swimming velocity and a set of kinematical variables between junior and juvenile swimmers and (2) compare the propulsion outputs through discrete and continuous analyses (Statistical Parametric Mapping­SPM) between junior and juvenile swimmers for each upper limb (i.e., dominant and non-dominant). The sample was composed of 22 male swimmers (12 juniors with 16.35 ± 0.74 years; 10 juveniles with 15.40 ± 0.32 years). A set of kinematic and propulsion variables was measured at maximum swimming velocity. Statistical Parametric Mapping was used as a continuous analysis approach to identify differences in the propulsion of both upper limbs between junior and juvenile swimmers. Junior swimmers were significantly faster than juveniles (p = 0.04, d = 0.86). Although juniors showed higher propulsion values, the SPM did not reveal significant differences (p < 0.05) for dominant and non-dominant upper limbs between the two age groups. This indicates that other factors (such as drag) may be responsible for the difference in swimming velocity. Coaches and swimmers should be aware that an increase in propulsion alone may not immediately lead to an increase in swimming velocity.

Background and objectives: Starting the multicomponent training sessions with aerobic-based exercises or resistance-based exercises may have different effects on functional fitness and body composition. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of the order of exercises in elderly women's physical fitness and body composition by multicomponent training. Materials and Methods: A sample of 91 elderly females, aged between 60 and 81, were randomly divided into three groups (A, B, C). Each group performed the following order of exercises: Group A consisted of warm-up followed by aerobic training, strength training, stretching and cool down; Group B consisted of warm-up followed by strength training, aerobic training, stretching and cool down; while the control group (C) did not perform any exercise. Functional fitness and body composition were assessed at 3 moments of the 32 weeks (baseline and after each 16-week) intervention. One-way ANOVA for comparison between groups, ANOVA for repeated measures and multiple linear regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: The results showed that the functional fitness and body composition varied over the 32 weeks of multicomponent training. However, group A seems to show higher improvements in more variables. Conclusion: In the current study, group A obtained better results in most of the evaluated parameters. Thus, to improve functional fitness, warm-up, followed by aerobic training, strength training and relaxation may be the most suitable training for elderly women.

Background and Objectives: The effect of the blood flow restriction technique (BFR) on delayed onset muscular soreness (DOMS) symptoms remains unclear. Since there is no consensus in the literature, the aim of the present study is to systematically identify and appraise the available evidence on the effects of the BFR technique on DOMS, in healthy subjects. Materials and Methods: Computerized literature search in the databases Pubmed, Google Scholar, EBSCO, Cochrane and PEDro to identify randomized controlled trials that assessed the effects of blood flow restriction on delayed onset muscular soreness symptoms. Results: Eight trials met the eligibility criteria and were included in this review, presenting the results of 118 participants, with a mean methodological rating of 6/10 on the PEDro scale. Conclusions: So far, there is not enough evidence to confirm or refute the influence of BFR on DOMS, and more studies with a good methodological basis are needed, in larger samples, to establish protocols and parameters of exercise and intervention. Data analysis suggests a tendency toward the proinflammatory effect of BFR during high restrictive pressures combined with eccentric exercises, while postconditioning BFR seems to have a protective effect on DOMS. The purpose of the study was to compare the change in dynamic and isometric force-time characteristics after plyometric (PLYO) or isometric strength training (ISO). Twenty-two endurance runners (age = 37 ± 6 years, stature = 1.71 ± 0.05 m, body mass = 62.7 ± 8.6 kg, weekly mileage = 47.3 ± 10.8 km) performed a countermovement jump (CMJ) and isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) test during pre- and post-tests. They were then randomly assigned to either PLYO or ISO group and completed 12 sessions of intervention over six weeks. The PLYO included drop jump, single leg bounding and split jump, and the ISO included IMTP and isometric ankle plantar flexion. Significant and large time x group interactions were observed for CMJ countermovement depth (P = 0.037, ƞ²p = 0.21) and IMTP and relative peak force (PF) (P = 0.030, ƞ² p = 0.22). Significant and large main effects for time were observed in CMJ height, peak power, propulsive phase duration, countermovement depth, reactive strength index modified, IMTP PF and relative PF (P < 0.05, 0.20 ≤ ƞ²p ≤ 0.65). Effect for time showed small improvement in CMJ height for both PLYO (P < 0.001, d = 0.48) and ISO (P = 0.009, d = 0.47), small improvement in CMJ PP in PLYO (P = 0.020, d = 0.21), large increase in countermovement depth (P = 0.004, d = 1.02) and IMTP relative PF (P < 0.001, d = 0.87), and moderate increase in propulsive phase duration (P = 0.038, d = 0.65) and IMTP PF (P < 0.001, d = 0.55) in ISO. There were large differences between groups for percentage change in countermovement depth (P = 0.003, d = 0.96) and IMTP relative PF (P = 0.047, d = 0.90). In conclusion, both PLYO and ISO improved CMJ jump height via different mechanisms, while only ISO resulted in improved IMTP PF and relative PF.

BACKGROUND: Cage subsidence is a very common complication after lumbar interbody fusion. It may compromise vertebral interbody fusion through progressive spinal deformity and consequently cause compression of neural elements. Clinical relevance remains, however, unclear, with few studies on this subject and even less information regarding its correlation with clinical findings. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for cage subsidence and clinical evaluation after transforaminal (TLIF) and posterior (PLIF) lumbar interbody fusion. METHODS: A retrospective study in patients submitted to TLIF and PLIF between 2008 and 2017 was conducted. RESULTS: A total of 165 patients were included (123 TLIF and 42 PLIF). Univariate analysis showed an increased risk of cage subsidence in spondylolisthesis comparing with degenerative disk disease (p = 0.007). A higher preoperative lumbar lordosis angle (p = 0.014) and cage placement in L2-L3 (p = 0.012) were associated with higher risk of subsidence. The posterior cage positioning on vertebral endplate was associated with a higher risk of subsidence (p = 0.028) and significant subsidence (p = 0.005), defined as cage migration > 50% of cage height. PLIF presented a higher risk when comparing with TLIF (p = 0.024). Hounsfield unit (HU) values < 135 (OR6; 95% CI [1.95-34]) and posterior positioning (OR7; 95% CI [1.7-27.3]) were independent risk factors for cage subsidence and significant subsidence, respectively, in multivariate analysis. There was a tendency for significant subsidence in degrees ≥ 2 of Meyerding spondylolisthesis (OR4; 95% CI [0.85-21.5]). Significant cage subsidence was not associated with worse clinical results. Other analyzed factors, such as age (p = 0.008), low bone mineral density (BMD) (p = 0.029) and type of surgery (TLIF) (p = 0.004), were associated with worse results. CONCLUSION: The present study shows that lower BMD and posterior cage positioning are relevant risk factors for lumbar cage subsidence. Low BMD is also a predictor of poor clinical results, so it must be properly evaluated and considered, through HU values measurement in CT scan, a feasible and reliable tool in perioperative planning.

The aims of this study were to: (1) verify the sex effect; (2) assess upper limb asymmetry in anthropometrics and propulsive force variables; and (3) identify the main determinants of butterfly swim velocity based on a set of anthropometrics, kinematics, and propulsive force variables. Twenty swimmers (10 males: 15.40±0.30 years; 10 females: 14.43±0.23 years) at the national level were recruited for analysis. A set of anthropometrics, kinematics, and propulsive force variables were measured. Overall, a significant sex effect was verified (p≤0.05). Non-significant differences between upper-limbs were noted for males and females in all variables, except for the dF in males (t=-2.66, p=0.026, d=0.66). Stroke frequency presented the highest contribution, where a one unit increase in the stroke frequency imposed an increase of 0.375 m·s-1 (95CI: 0.105;0.645, p=0.010) in the swim velocity. The swim velocity was predicted by the mean propulsive force, intra-cyclic variation of the swim velocity, and stroke frequency. Overall, swimmers exhibit non-significant differences in the variables assessed. Swim velocity in the butterfly stroke was determined by an interaction of propulsive force and kinematic variables in young swimmers.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Intraoral scanners (IOSs) have some inherent distortions caused by optical and/or software imperfections. However, how other factors such as operator experience, scan time, scanner type, and scan size influence scan accuracy is not clear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the trueness and precision of scans performed by 3 professionals with different levels of experience by using 2 IOSs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Three operators with low, medium, and high levels of experience scanned a master model 10 times by using 2 IOSs (CEREC Omnicam; Dentsply Sirona and TRIOS 3; 3Shape), resulting in 10 standard tessellation language files for each group (N=60). Each standard tessellation language file was divided into 2 areas (prepared teeth and complete arch). Precision was evaluated by comparing the 10 scans from each examiner for each system. Trueness was evaluated by comparing each scan file with a reference scan obtained from a laboratory scanner (D2000; 3Shape). A 3D analysis software program (Geomagic Control; 3D Systems) was used to perform all the comparisons and superimpositions. The 3-way ANOVA test followed by the Tukey HSD test were used to assess precision and trueness. The 2-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey HSD test was used to assess scan time. The Pearson correlation test was performed between scan time and trueness for both scanners. An additional correlation was performed between scan time and number of images, as well as between number of images and trueness for the TRIOS 3. RESULTS: Statistically significant influences of operator (P<.001), scanner (P<.001), scan size (P<.001), operator and scan size (P<.001), and scanner and scan size (P<.001) were observed. The TRIOS 3 group reported higher precision than the CEREC Omnicam group for complete-arch scans (P<.001), although no difference was observed for scans of the prepared tooth. Medium- (P=.002) and low-experience operators (P<.001) reported lower precision for complete-arch scans performed with CEREC Omnicam when compared with TRIOS 3. The low-experience operator reported significantly worse results for complete-arch scans in comparison with the medium- (P=.008 and P<.001) and high-experience operators (P<.001 and P=.001), by using TRIOS 3 and CEREC Omnicam, respectively. Medium- and high-experience operators reported similar results among themselves. The CEREC Omnicam scanner reported lower trueness for complete-arch scans when compared with the prepared tooth (P<.001); for TRIOS 3, a difference was only observed for the low-experience operator when compared with the high-experience operator (P<.001). The CEREC Omnicam reported lower trueness than the TRIOS 3, except for the medium-experience operator with the prepared tooth scan. Comparing the trueness between operators and considering the same scanner and scan size, all groups were similar. The low-experience operator had a longer scanning time than the medium- and high-experience operators. For TRIOS 3, the low-experience operator obtained the highest number of images during each scan. CONCLUSIONS: The accuracy of intraoral scans was influenced by operator experience, type of IOSs, and scan size. More experienced operators and smaller scan sizes made for more accurate scans. In addition, more experienced operators made faster scans, and the TRIOS 3 was more accurate than the CEREC Omnicam for complete-arch scans.

With tuberculosis still being one of leading causes of death in the world and the emergence of drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), researchers have been seeking to find further therapeutic strategies or more specific molecular targets. PknB is one of the 11 Ser/Thr protein kinases of Mtb and is responsible for phosphorylation-mediated signaling, mainly involved in cell wall synthesis, cell division and metabolism. With the amount of structural information available and the great interest in protein kinases, PknB has become an attractive target for drug development. This work describes the optimization and application of an in silico computational protocol to find new PknB inhibitors. This multi-level computational approach combines protein-ligand docking, structure-based virtual screening, molecular dynamics simulations and free energy calculations. The optimized protocol was applied to screen a large dataset containing 129,650 molecules, obtained from the ZINC/FDA-Approved database, Mu.Ta.Lig Virtual Chemotheca and Chimiothèque Nationale. It was observed that the most promising compounds selected occupy the adenine-binding pocket in PknB, and the main interacting residues are Leu17, Val26, Tyr94 and Met155. Only one of the compounds was able to move the active site residues into an open conformation. It was also observed that the P-loop and magnesium position loops change according to the characteristics of the ligand. This protocol led to the identification of six compounds for further experimental testing while also providing additional structural information for the design of more specific and more effective derivatives.

The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of match location, quality of opposition and match outcome on match running performance according to playing position in a Portuguese professional football team. Twenty-three male professional football players were monitored from eighteen Portuguese Football League matches during the 2019-2020 season. Global positioning system technology (GPS) was used to collect time-motion data. The match running performance was obtained from five playing positions: central defenders (CD), fullbacks (FB), central midfielders (CM), wide midfielders (WM) and forwards (FW). Match running performance was analyzed within specific position and contextual factors using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures, standardized (Cohen) differences and smallest worthwhile change. CM and WM players covered significantly greater total distance (F = 15.45, p = 0.000, η2 = 0.334) and average speed (F = 12.79, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.294). WM and FB players covered higher distances at high-speed running (F = 16.93, p = 0.000, η2 = 0.355) and sprinting (F = 13.49; p < 0.001, η2 = 0.305). WM players covered the highest number of accelerations (F = 4.69, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.132) and decelerations (F = 12.21, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.284). The match running performance was influenced by match location (d = 0.06-2.04; CI: -0.42-2.31; SWC = 0.01-1.10), quality of opposition (d = 0.13-2.14; CI: -0.02-2.60; SWC = 0.01-1.55) and match outcome (d = 0.01-2.49; CI: -0.01-2.31; SWC = 0.01-0.35). Contextual factors influenced the match running performance with differential effects between playing positions. This study provides the first report about the contextual influence on match running performance in a Portuguese professional football team. Future research should also integrate tactical and technical key indicators when analyzing the match-related contextual influence on match running performance.
